Monstrous grooms and beastly brides? Don't be afraid of falling in love... it's super-natural! Explore the entire Monster Brides series, one tantalizing happily-ever-after at a time!
Marilyn Barr currently resides in the wilds of Kentucky with her husband, son, and rescue cats. When engaging with the real world, she is collecting characters, empty coffee cups, and unused homeschool curricula. She is a sucker (haha) for cheesy horror movies, Italian food, punk music, black cats, & bad puns.
The newest release in the Monster Brides series!! Marrying My Moth Lady by @marilyn_barr_author 🥰 it's quite, it's got some spice, the main characters are amazing! Not only does she switch it up with a female 'monster' but the mmc also isn't your 'normal' male in a monster book. And the side characters are also some 'characters', lol. I hate giving away the good stuff so you have to read it and see what it is for yourself. You'll love it!
This was a quick and cute read and it was fun having the lady be the monster for once. Lots of southern charm and silly humor as we get to know the sometimes coldhearted entomologist Horus who suffers from some severe disgestive issues and his sweet, high heeled moth lady love.
Horus and Millie are sweet insta-love pair who bond over trying to save the forest Millie grew up in (after Millie kidnaps him) they quickly fall for each other, turning their mission for conservation into one of love as well.
I don't want to give to much away but it had some surprise twists to this plot I wasn't expecting.
This is a good read if you like romance without to much spice. I'd give it a 1.5 on the spice scale possibly a 2.
Tropes include: virgin FMC, possessive MMC, not quite touch her and die but close. Grumpy/sunshine, Special equipment, secret love, I want to say found family as well for some of the vibes at the end.
My Spice Rating - 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ Spice ratings - 1 🌶️- May include hands, more kissing, "fade to black" scenes. No open door spice. 2 🌶️🌶️ - Spice happens, but it isn't often. May include open door scenes but they're infrequent or rare. 3 🌶️🌶️🌶️ - Spice happens more often and it is more detailed, Spice is part of the plot, or the book is 50/50 spice to plot. 4 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ - More spice than plot, may contain kinky themes. 5 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ - Absolute smut. Very little plot, sex heavy. The spicy scenes are very explicit, may contain triggering or dangerous themes, Dark romances and erotica.

Horus is an etymologist who left the University and fled deep into the Appalachian Mountains. He's giving a talk about the necessity for funds to keep the reserve up and running. Unfortunately the one man who is really interested comes with a blackmail offer---marry his daughter to give their baby a name or no funds. The only problem he has is even remembering he dated her much less spent any time with her. Now he's engaged to her!?! Millie May Moth is a half of twins. Her brother is totally human but she got the mothman genes. She's been sheltered in the forests since birth and has not been able to live a normal life. Her brother brings her what she needs and makes sure she's ok. When they discover the bulldozers they decide to kidnap a scientist in the hopes of getting him to stop the destruction. Only they kidnap the wrong scientist. Horus is taken with Millie even though she has antennae and wings and red eyes. She is all woman and makes him feel safe. He spends a few days with her and she takes him where he can follow the butterflies. He discovers that Carter is destroying the forests for the coal underneath it. When he goes to confront him he remembers he has to be smarter than the man. Later he goes out to dinner with his (hack choke) fiance. There he finds out he isn't the baby daddy but a mean looking biker is. Now they have to come up with a plan to block her dad but get money for him and her. Will they be able to do a major switheroo or not? A story to end all stories!!.

Desperate to save her treehouse and the forest, Millie May Moth and her brother kidnap scientist Dr. Horus Mills, never realizing love is in the air. Can she stop the destruction of her home without giving her heart to Horus? Marrying My Moth Lady is a humorous monster romance that is pure enjoyment. Marilyn Barr pens a romance with a hero dealing with health disorder that is accurately portrayed. The environmental theme brings to light the dangers of our forests but without being preachy or shoving it down readers’ throats. The descriptive narration is flawless and draws the reader in. The romance is monster romance with a few tropes thrown in. If you love grumpy/sunshine, forced proximity, monster/human love, and a few more fun tropes, you will absolutely find Marrying My Moth Lady unputdownable, like me.
Marilyn Barr is one of my favorite authors, especially when it comes to monster romance. She writes from the heart and her characters will make you feel every emotion. Her characters are flawed, struggle with life in general, not your typical beautiful people characters, and are honest. Marilyn Barr talks about their flaws with no holding back and I can’t get enough. Her characters embrace their individuality and find the ones who love them wholeheartedly.
The plot is engaging with a tight cast of characters, tension galore, adventure at every turn, and plenty of romance. The plot progression is well executed and brilliantly written. I honestly couldn’t put it down. Go and read it for yourself. You can thank me later.
First, I have to say there is nothing I appreciate more than a detailed Content Warning page in the book, so I don't have to track it down through the author's website. Major points for that.
Now then, we meet our MMC, Dr. Horus Mills, just a he is about to have a bought of IBS. This is happening at the biggest presentation of his life, no big deal! The man with the power to give Horus what he wants (expanded funding a land for butterfly research) has one heck of a bargain: marry his daughter and the land is Horus's forever. I mean Horus did knock her up...possibly? Anyway, it's a yes from our nerdy doctor. While in the field, Horus becomes a hapless victim of a kidnapping scheme. Our bumbling perps? Oh, only the children of THE MOTHMAN! Millie Mae Moth, our FMC, is every bit an Appalachian lady. Think Dolly Parton with wings? She's only half human, but we love her anyway. She wants to save her forest home, and Horus might be the key. Harebrained scheming ensues. My only complaints are the amounts of idioms and cliches used in the writing, and that Horus's personality seemed to change based on what the scene needed from him. Otherwise, this was a sweet, fun, offbeat monster romance! Insects usually creep me out, but I loved Millie's feisty spirit.
I love it when the FMC is the monster! More FMC monsters, please ♥
I loved that Millie was living in a treehouse in the forest but was wearing little dresses and stilettos. She is pretty cute. Very sassy. She was my favorite part of the book. Horus is a bit of a socially awkward nerdy scientist. I didn't understand how he wasn't more on top of the things going on in his life. How did he never question the pregnancy with Amber? He blacked out and never thought to ask anything. Not even for a DNA test? And The whole deal he made with the father, I didn't get why Horus, a scientist, didn't bother to be more thorough and read every bit of documentation. It was frustrating because a lot of the plot felt like he was..just very not on top of it, lol. I thought it was admirable that he was willing to step up with Amber when he thought the kid was his. The plot jumped around a bit for me, and I never connected with the other MCs. I thought Horus was a little judgemental and mean sometimes.
who else is more perfect for millie may moth, daughter of the mothman, than the conservationist/entemologist dr. horus mills?!? it was practically instalove for both, but he's already been arranged to marry his "boss's daughter" out of convenience. with an elaborate scheme, they worked together with some surprising allies to achieve their common goal & get more than what their hearts desire.
my 1st time reading a female monster this time with a human. that was interesting to me right away. this RomCom had alot of ♥️, even made me tear in some parts & smile from ear to ear. then theres the strong representation for ulcerative colitis & crohns disease. add the dash of environmental awareness, a good example of consent, & a sprinkle of spice with an HEA makes this an adorable & good quick story to read!!
I am always so excited when I see Marilyn Barr has a new paranormal romance out! MARRYING MY MOTHLADY was such a delight. Horus the entomologist grew on me immediately with his scientific ways, his anxiety and his ulcerative colitis (I love when medical conditions are included in romances!). He wants a butterfly sanctuary to study. The wealthy man who could make that happen has some conditions however, and they include marrying his daughter—too bad neither Horus nor his daughter are keen on the idea. Mille May has moth genes, wings and antennae thanks to her father’s side. I loved how she and Horus spent time together, loved the complexities presented of what she and her brother had to do in order to keep her safe. Her home is now in jeopardy thanks to the plans for the land. And then things get very interesting with regards to Horus’s fiancée, and how they all plan to get out of a wedding no one wants. This was a fun romance and I loved the way it was all resolved in the end! 5/5 stars.
🔸️ The MMC is unusual one. He is an anti-social, wimpy, skinny scientist, who suffers from chronic disease. FMC is a young, sweet, lonely moth lady. A grumpy - sunshine pair.
🔸️ As their paths crosses the mutual fascination slowly begins. To ensure HEA they have problems to solve and villian to fight.
🔸️ The story is a part of Monster Brides series so wedding theme is an important part of plot.
🔸️ The chemistry between characters is sweet, but spice itself is low.
🔸️ World building and writing style is good. Plot itself is a bit too naive for my liking.
🔸️ Overal, a very safe and easy reading. Extra bonus for unusual MMC (I really like that idea ❤️).
A forest saving, environmentally-friendly read with a grumpy-sunshine couple. Horus is the grumpy MMC that is so self absorbed, he doesn't even know his coworkers names. He feels he doesn't need to cater to anyone because he's on top career-wise. But he's constantly humbled by his chronic disease. His bowels get the best of him. Millie is the sweet virgin FMC with a Virginia twang accent. She aching to see more of the world, but has to hide away because of her moth features. Throughout the book she is desperate to save her family's land and tries to get Horus to help. The couple are complete opposites and that's what make them fit. Lots of hilarious banter between the couple and the other characters in the book. Amber and Rash were a fun side couple that added to the story.
This sweet and sassy mother lady will steal your heart. Millie May and Horus have the chemistry that once science can achieve. He's a bug scientist, and she's Mothman's daughter. What others may see as unusual, he loves those features of hers. He will go to any length to protect her from the deforestation and coal mining, threatening her home, even marrying into money and influence. Millie is the only one who soothes Horus' fears and tummy issues. This dynamic duo find their slice of happily ever after, and I'm here for it!
What a fun read! This had me laughing out loud as these characters wove their story. Even Amber and Rash were fun! But Horus and Millie were such great characters and I loved their story. This has so much humour, angst and heat 🌶🌶 and love. Even Millie's brother was okay. :D The humour was just so good! The interactions with other characters just made this so much fun to enjoy. If you are a fan of this author, then you'll enjoy this book. 😁🤩
This book was a breath of fresh air after a lot of dark romances that I was reading. I wanted something lighter where you could just feel the love in every page and this book gave that to me. the characters where great and it was so fun seeing a moth-lady when moth-man has been having his time in the spotlight.

I'm not sure what I thought of this one. Not bad but something... different. A bug guy, an old rich guy and his snotty blase daughter. A piece of land bartered for a safe haven. An overprotective brother and his unique sweet sister. Now pair all that up you a interesting story if a little odd for me. But take the chance and enjoy.
This is part of the Monster Brides Romance series. This is a sweet monster romance. Great characters that you fall in love with. I really liked how the author built up the relationship between the two main characters. I was rooting for their happy ending through the whole book. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
A very meet-cute story with a mythical mothlady and her entomologist lover-boy. Also included in this totally adorable story: a tree house, a fake fiancé, a biker momma, and a cause! It's hilarious and sweet!.

This is a cute and short read. We have a female monster as the romantic lead in this story. Millie May and Horus have the chemistry that once science can achieve. He's a bug scientist, and she's Moth man's daughter. Millie is the only one who soothes Horus' fears and tummy issues.
This is a great part of the Monster Brides series. Milly and Horus make a great couple and boy oh boy do they have problems in their relationship. This is a must-read.

I couldn't get into this. My brain would not let me finish this book. I'm not sure what it is about entire books supposed to be romance and instead being a diary about ibs... Maybe this wasn't my lane, but I dnf'd it. :/
This book was both hilarious and spot on the monster money. It is smart with an environmentally conscious idealism that makes it worth every page turn. So good!.

It was a cute, short, fun story. I love that the FMC was the "monster" in this story. The interactions between character were good and the overall story was fun.
Horus isn’t your standard MMC and I love him for it! He’s grumpy, nerdy for bugs, a bit self absorbed, and has some chronic tummy problems. Millie is the Mothman’s daughter and along with her brother they kidnap Horus in a plot to save the forest. This was such a fun read! I loved that we had a Moth Lady in this one, it was a nice change of pace. Loved Amber and Rash as a side couple. If you’re looking for something light hearted and full of laughs you’ve gotta check this one out!!
Gleeful Goblin Review: I'm an absolute sap for female monsters in romance books and this book is no exception in making me melt. Both these characters are just adorkable both on their own and when they meet it's adorkability squared in the very best way. Our MMC gives me (a neurospicy dork myself) very neurospicy vibes in several ways but I feel like that especially shines through in this scene where he's explaining his situation with his unwanted wife to be to our FMC: “I’ve never had a connection—superficial or otherwise. No one is allowed to see me. How am I supposed to build a life?” I swallow my tears. They will be with me long after Horus returns to his money piles and loveless marriage. “What’s your dream?” “The butterfly sanctuaries,” he says with a shrug. If he recognizes I’m holding back a river of tears with an autumnal beaver damn, he ignores it. “I wasn’t spraying bullsh—err—lip service at dinner. Saving bees and butterflies is all I want in life. If we don’t have the bugs, we have no food to eat or air to breathe. I don’t feel people realize how dependent we are on pollinators. My dream will come true because of Mr. Carter—or at least his daughter, Amber. The best part is that she hates the outdoors, so I can enjoy nature by myself. The forest will be a sanctuary for me, too.” “Do you ever dream of having someone to share your mission?” “A woman who isn’t scared of bugs and spiders? One that would spend hours in the forest without making noise while I collect and tag insects? One that won’t be jealous when the mission to save the forest is as important as our relationship? On top of all that, she will have to learn to love my stellar personality. Haha, nope,” he says in a voice dripping with sarcasm. “What about Amber? Does she realize she will have to share your heart with your mission?” “She never had my heart in the first place,” he says, rolling onto his back. “She hasn’t shown interest in getting to know me since she announced our pregnancy and subsequent engagement.” “You make it sound like you put a price tag on your heart,” I say. “Bought and sold.” He gathers me into his arms."
This couple has some bumps along the road due to the outside world crowding in but it all makes the eventual HEA so satisfying. This book has absolutely joined my list of books I'll enjoy coming back to over and over again. 5/5 Stars.

𝗠𝗮𝗱𝗲-𝗠𝗲-𝗦𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀: “Feel what you do to me. Constant t0rm3nt. I want to do fılth¥ things to you but must respect you for the lady you are.” “The way you lıck your lips and stare at my 🐓as if it’s your next meal will end this sooner than you wish. I promise.” He moans. Did I crush him?…I must v3rıf¥ he’s not $üff0catıng under my rümp. The man who looks down his nose at everyone else, bows his head for me. All the toys in the world aren’t a substitute for the kiss of someone who loves you.
Short, dangerous(for Millie), and oh so sweet! I loved how Horus went out of his way to save the forest to the point he was willing to suffer for life for his girl to be safe. I love how Horus's parents also just immediately accepted her and didn't question the moth part at all. Part of me wants a book about Amber and Rash just so I know they get to live happy ever after. I love how Amber grew from being a spoiled rich girl to a girl in love trying to break off her engagement so she could run away to be happy with her biker man. The way that Horus, Amber, and Rash figured out how to protect what they all wanted was amazing even if Horus had a habit of keeping stuff from Millie and staying away for a few days at a time to get stuff situated. I hate how Mr. Carter was using Horus to track the coal flies to send his mining company to get the coal in the forest. But the way he kinda accepted that Amber was happy with Rash made me happy.

Super cute read! Millie May Moth might be my favorite and I’m so glad we got to meet her! There is so much sweetness and comedy in this marriage of convenience, insta love story and I couldn’t be happier.
Horus is a great character who is physically haunted by his IBS and personality wise a bit flawed and very human. He’s perfect! Our lovely Millie is a gal out to protect her home but also lonely and lost in her isolated living.
Together these two are two emotionally bumbling fools in love who are after the same thing in the end. A cute story with a lot of heart. I really enjoyed this read!
I love that we have a female monster as the romantic lead in this story. That being said the drama levels for this book were off the charts. So much back and forth. Star crossed couples and supterfuge. I feel like Horus kept far to many things secret from Millie, but then again? Everyone else seemed to have more than a few secrets as well. I liked that Millie being a Moth lady wasn’t really viewed as serious issue for Horus’s parents once they were introduced. I was also extremely relieved about how everything worked out at the end for both couples. Amber and Rash included.
A little change to what I usually read, being that it's the female lead who is the paranormal character. I'm so used to the male lead being the paranormal character that this made this story a lot more interesting. And the fact that Horus and Millie are not the typical perfect individuals you would think the main characters should be adds another layer to this story. I laughed so much more than I'd expected to. A wonderful read from this author. Definitely will be checking out more of her books.
