You know that feeling you get when you read a book and instantly think, I'm going to have to read that again. The information provided throughout had me in awe. I'd want to read it again just to pick up on any little details I might have missed here and there.

The way the author described what was happening had me feeling like I was right there. I was hunkered down behind the pallets while arrows were flying by. I felt the sweltering sun beating down on me. I understood the feeling of accomplishment.

Aoh is one of those characters that you feel for from the beginning. Her way of overcoming every obstacle thrown at her pulled at all of your emotions. It was a great read that was well thought out and researched. Knowing that the author is working on #2 has me excited to see where Aoh is headed.

This is by far the best historical fiction I've ever read! Every chapter had me hooked! And honestly - if it wasn't for work and other responsibilities, i would've finished this book in one sitting (gotta admit that this book took precedence over everything else - it was THAT GOOD!). Aoh's character is very inspiring. Her grit, bravery, and relentless ambition to succeed in any situation despite the harshest of harsh circumstances makes the read even more joyful. Zurvan has small role, but it was very well placed! His archery lessons (and general life advice) had a strong impact on (me and) the entire storyline. There were sections throughout the story that moved me to tears, keeping me awake at night thinking "Oh no, that's so unfair! This shouldn't have happened!", "What's gonna happen next? How's Aoh gonna get through this?" to " Wait what!!! She's managed to pull through like this??!! Damn, this girl is SO GOOD!"

Another reason I loved Aoh's character is because we're very similar! i love the little things in life just like she does - like her kite, the melodious flute music, are all things that i would appreciate if i was her. She's unconditional in giving - whether it was at Babylon protecting the princess, or at Egypt "serving" Daimina, which is a trait that i love!

There are so many snippets that i love, but that would give away a lot of details! It best to experience this book for its amazing work! Definitely worth multiple re-reads! Cant wait for Part 2!!

'Aoh' by Books and Poetry by Jennifer Renson 🇪🇬

Aoh finds herself in the vast and arid dessert in the Middle Kingdom of Ancient Egypt, after an attack on her village has taken place. After what seems like an eternity for someone so young, she is startled to hear what sounds like horses hooves running toward her. Fearing that it may be the same men on horseback who ambushed her home, she hides. Gradually the sound ceases. Then she hears two voices, one male and one female.

It's always a joy when an Author/Writer asks me to read and review their work, but that joy is increased when the request comes from someone with whom I am not yet acquainted, as was the case with Jennifer Rensin-Chiapetta. However, when I clicked on the link that the Author provided, giving me more information about the book, 📖 I wasn't initially sure if this type of story was for me, not knowing anything about Egypt, ancient or otherwise, or possibly, the time period. I had read historical fiction, the furthest back being Victorian, and usually set in Britain or America. However, I am attempting to broaden my reading preferences, and pride myself on never turning down a good read.

There were an initial number of chapters which were a bit of a challenge, but only because I was acutely aware that I was out of my comfort zone, and doubted my ability to grasp the concept laid before me. It also takes me a while to get to know characters. They are a very big part of any narrative for me. I am a big character based reader. Once I was comfortable with the subject, the narrative really picked up pace and became a lot easier to absorb.
Aoh is a strong female character. She has had to fend for herself from a very young age, and is therefore wary of anyone trying to help her. Every time life deals her a blow, she is unwavering in her determination and fortitude to continue. She seems to be slightly more comfortable with women than men as the story develops, although there is still that element of cautiousness. Her interaction with others, is always met with a certain degree of suspicion except those she knows she is of a similar generation. The man that she liberates is someone she initially looks up to, probably as she sees him as a safe and secure father figure. I would like to see how that dynamic develops.

Aoh's encounters with Tygrmm would maybe be interesting to follow up on, if the Author chooses to pursue it in her next book.
Both Queens in this, comprehensive, captivating and Intriguing novel appear to be quite unhinged. Queen Huriyae with her snakes 🐍 and obsession with conquering lands, and the Pharoah's wife, incensed with jealousy and betrayal. 💔

Ikha'y, Senmet and Sefk are definitely the stooges of this tale. The High Priest, Vizier and General, are all hell bent on the protection of the Queen, their beloved Egypt, and safeguarding their positions. But how far will they go to accomplish these objectives?
The meticulous detail and knowledge of that time, spoke of the Author's dedication, to what is clearly her passion, and this is profoundly communicated within her writing.✍

I am extremely glad to have had this opportunity to both, read this wonderful piece of writing and meet the Author, and I am greatly looking forward to reading the sequel.

AOH by Jennifer Renson is phenomenal historical journey! It takes readers deep into the heart of the best historical societies of the time. Babylon and Egypt are thoroughly explored and revisited in this exciting read. I am a huge fan of historical fiction reads and a fascination for Egypt. AOH is as epic as the Star Wars series but without the fantasy/sci-fi genres.

I enjoy following Aoh as she made her way through life. At first, it is mostly a story of survival. Aoh feels the call to return back to Egypt. There she is a guardian of sorts. Weeding through the dangers, suspicions, betrayals, and mysteries, Aoh has her hands full. I loved how there was a bit of a happy tale for Aoh that is still in progress. Her relationship with Laggus is great. They have so much trust with each other. I cannot wait to explore the next action-packed journey for Aoh and Laggus.

There are also some mysteries that still need to be solved. I am hoping for a book two! Overall, this is by far the best historical adventure I have read. Jennifer Renson writes incredibly well. She hasn't lost her magical tough in creating three dimensional words that not only grab the reader from their world but plunges them deep and fast into a fictional one full of emotions, dangers, and action.

I received this copy from the publisher. This is my voluntary review.

Slow start but good ending

The book was slow to start. I get we needed backstory, but I wish we started with her life in Babylon and did the backstory in flashbacks or something to keep the pace a little faster.

Once we got into the meat of the story, I was hooked. Meeting Laggus peeked my interest. I was confused why she didn't immediately leave with them but that must be so she'd have a secret way into the... well... yeah...

The ending was great other than a few things that just bothered me personally. How many arrows did she have? Like does she have a Hermione granger quiver with never ending arrows? When she's struggling to breath she uses his heartbeat to match her breaths? Umm huh?
Those are really just tiny things that bothered me though.

I really wanted to delete the last few paragraphs and write a " to be continued" instead. I'd have loved to see where their story went in the future. I'm a little sad I didn't get an explicit ending to them. I'd like to see them struggle but find a way to be happy.

Anyways, slow start took me a while to get hooked but then I was in it for the long hall!

Great read. 2nd book I've read by Renson and she's amazing! Keep it up!
