Readers will explore the life and times of historic figures in the Icons series. Each book features a remarkable individual who has left their mark in history, exploring key life events, influences and inspirations, how they overcame obstacles, and their achievements and successes.
I am a Canadian children's author and presenter. My fiction series for young readers features ecological adventures set in Waterton Lakes National Park. The next book in the series, Fire on the Mountain, will be released into the wild on March 22, 2022.
I also enjoy writing non-fiction and have published over fifty books for students in Kindergarten to grade six. My most popular non-fiction book is a biography of Selena Gomez, the creepiest book is about lice, and the cutest is about black bears. I like to write about science and nature, as well as people and history.
I love visiting classrooms to talk about writing, wildlife and environmental stewardship. Presentations use my books as springboards to dive into these larger discussions with students in Kindergarten to grade six.
I enjoyed reading not only statistics about Henry Ford, but I also really enjoyed reading personal quotes and thoughts Henry had. The book gives some facts about him as well as a quote about that fact. An example of that would be, Henry talks about the importance of learning and the following quotation, "Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty. Anyone who keeps learning stays young. The greatest thing in life is to keep your mind young." With the author giving those headings and then adding the quotes the author can see how Henry really felt and the way he lived his life and the way he believed to love his life.
This would be a good read aloud to introduce children to how one of the greatest inventions was created. Not only does this story discuss Henry himself, but it also discusses the first steps he took to make the first car. This book gives key details about some of the first automobiles created as well as important key facts students can learn. This story also discusses important issues in history such as The Great Depression for a teacher to teach about, what an entrepreneur is, and how to write a biography and the steps of a biography.
I think this would be a great story for students who have any interest in cars in 3rd-4th grade. A lot of children may know facts and have a general interest in cars and how they work. Children may have never been introduced to the beginning history of cars and this could be a great start. This would also be a great book for students who maybe have an interest in working with cars in their future. This book has an inside look to the first types of cars and what they were made of, some important parts of making a car, and the achievements and success Henry had out of building the first car.
This story has a glossary, a timeline, and information on how to write a biography. These can be simple tools a teacher can use to teach their students about this information and ways to introduce it into the classroom. There are also many key words relating to the history of cars and Henry Ford that can be introduced into the classroom and both teachers and students can benefit from.
