A very important historical account of the life in Northern Taiwan of Rev. Mackay in the end of 19th Century. It could almost be read as a Victorian adventure novel set in a far away tropic land.

An absolute pleasure to read, especially with me living on the island formally known as Formosa. Very well written and informative. I'm not a Christian so I was pleased it wasn't preachy.
