Young Years is one of my very favorite collections of children's stories, fairy tales, and nursery rhymes. Even now that all my kids are more or less "too old" for the content, they still enjoy hearing me read from it occasionally, and I still love reading it. I didn't know this book when I was a child, but my wife's mother bought for her (from a door-to-door salesman!) when she was a child, and we've had a copy of the book all through our marriage.
One of the excellent things about the Young Years retellings is that they are most definitely not the Disney-fied versions of the classic stories. In Young Years, you are likely to see someone's head cut off, animal characters eaten by other animals, and a lot of of the grotesque from the older versions of the stories. This makes it great fun to read to boys.
This was a favorite growing up and I got the actual book from my mom. It's pretty worn and even has a piece of duct tape holding on the cover. It's a childhood treasure I will never part with.
I need to replace our copy of this beloved childhood book. It was falling apart and had ugly, red tape all over it. It was out for repair and I never got it back. Heartbreaking to lose the original copy from our childhood. It was a book with sentimental value, many memories.
This is the book where I first discovered The Goops.
I love this book. I used to read it all the time when I was little. I still have the book and it's in not too bad a shape. Some wearing on the outside but no tape yet. The cover looks a little different then the cover in the picture on here. The title is in a yellow and blue box otherwise same picture. It's a great book.
This is a collection of poems, nursery rhymes and fairy tales. I remember having it when I was growing up and was able to find a copy at my favorite used bookstore. This is a great collection, with nice illustrations. And it reminds me of being a kid again. Loved it.
I had the 1971 edition - my first ever book. What a treasure this is! Beautifully illustrated and inludes every classic story and thensome. Now I have a second '71 edition thanks to Amazon!
