Rate this book
Every museum, every gallery may have its own catalogue, but here is a survey of European art which will take you quickly and easily through ten centuries of painting.

Compiled by a team of leading experts in their field, and written in clear language for ease of appreciation and understanding, Crash Course in Art sweeps from medieval religious frescos to the modern period when every ten years brought a new kind of technique to the fore. More than 100 illustrations in colour highlight techniques and characteristics of individual artists, while the text provides illuminating insights into the background of their world.

I enjoyed reading this one, it's very clear on the periods and gives a great timeline for art and worldly events to kick off each section which is really helpful.

I also appreciated that there were a lot of images of works that I was less familiar with, and greatly enjoyed. I only wish that it was clearly labeled with period/movement each of the images was related to (either by the image, or in the text), to more easily pair things up.
