Dark Heaven
Conor, a Korean-American, lives in a city where same-sex marriage has been legalized, but where racist and homophobic hate crimes are still frequent. He joins a band with the blonde hair, blue-eyed Simon and the two go on to create their own “dark heaven” in an abandoned church. Feelings develop between the pair, but light cannot dwell with dark, and their time together will soon come to an end...

La historia en que gira; lo que es ahora un manga compuesto por 6 tomos. Va de Simon (un americano, con cara de angel) y Conor (un caucásico - asiático) que son amigos desde niños y desarrollan desde la infancia, algo más que una inocente amistad.
Esta historia nos cuenta como Simon y Conor, descubren el amor el uno por el otro en un epoca donde la xenofobia, el racismo y la religión dominaban la mente de las masas. Y tienen que superar entre ellos mismo las barreras ideológicas y morales de la epoca en la que el amor no era tan fácil, como lo es ahora un poco en nuestros tiempos.
Simon y Conor, son el refugio el uno para el otro y mientras pasan por las facetas de la vida; niñes, adolescencia y vida adulta. Intentan descubrirse a ellos mismos, mientras uno alcanza la fama y el otro intenta ser "normal" ante una sociedad generalizada. Y asi mientras maduran a lo largo de sus vidas, se reencuentran, reconociendo que por mas que el cielo se ponga oscuro, si el otro está ahí. No importa, porque con ser ellos mismos y estar juntos, sobre todo juntos, eso ya es felicidad.

THEY FINALLY RE-ADDED THIS TO GOODREADS??? I first read Dark Heaven a few years ago, and haven't been the same since. I swear it changed something in me...

After spending several nights bingeing this ‘till 2AM, I’m left but a shell of myself….
When I went looking for friends-to-lovers manga (my fav romance trope), Dark Heaven caught my eye as one of the highest rated results. Who was gonna tell me it would completely and thoroughly destroy my heart with its drawn-out portrayal of how senseless hate can ruin the most innocent bond of love.
I think I cycled through every human emotion while reading this story, it was truly incredible. I had no idea that JUNS would tackle racism, homophobia, addiction and several more heavy topics in such a hard-hitting manner. I cried way too many times for everything the main characters were put through; this certainly isn't one for the weak of heart.

Now, their band is broken up, Simon’s risen to fame as a soloist, and Conor is left in the shadow of their years-long-now-ended romance. What the public doesn’t know, is that a notorious hate group targeting homosexuals and people of colour found their next victim in young Conor, crushing his fingers so he’d be unable to play guitar again. Now, Simon’s life is falling to pieces without Conor by his side. With hate groups and murderers making the daily headlines, Conor is intent on finding Simon again…

Everything about Dark Heaven makes me want to scream. I feel so strongly about Conor and Simon; the way they bonded as kids was so sweet to watch unfold, especially with how desperately Conor needed a friend. The way the timeline jumps back and forth really makes the love between these characters feel even more tangible, making it hurt all the more knowing it's been broken apart by the society surrounding them. I was rooting so hard for these two to find each other once again and reconcile their fractured bond, a journey which didn't dissapoint.
For all the pain in this series, there is both meaning and great payoff. I'll never get back all the tissues I needed while reading Dark Heaven for the first time, though I'll also never forget the way it impacted me. This is easily one of my favourite webcomics out there, and it deserves all the praise it already gets. Such beautiful art, with a meaningful love story that emerges from a pitfall of darkness.

Un BL espectacular, ple d'amor incondicional, anades i vingudes emocionals, èpic, dramàtic, que aborda el racisme, l'homofòbia, les bandes d'extrema dreta violentes, l'abús infantil, les violacions i el consum de drogues de manera profunda, gens romantitzada. Els protagonistes són una parella d'amics d'infància, d'amants, amb una química desbordant i que són refugi l'un de l'altre. Una trama que es retorça i complica amb girs inesperats, la intervenció d'una policia sovint ineficient, corrupció a dojo, prejudicis, fama mal gestionada... Buff, és que toca totes les tecles magistralment! ♥ Com a única pega, en algun capítol m'ha semblat que hi havia un excés de text i les il·lustracions són peculiars, pel que he llegit a les crítiques no solen agradar gaire, però a mi sí que m'encaixen i trobo que tenen molta expressivitat.

Sinceramente, uno de los mejores manhwas y BL que he leído. Es de los pocos que realmente tiene una trama buena e interesante, libre de clichés, y con buenos personajes. Y que, sobre todo. No se centra solo en escenas explícitas.
La historia cuenta con un dibujo hermoso, y los personajes se sienten frescos y realistas, al igual que las situaciones por las que pasan. Sus personalidades e historias están bien construidas.
Ni hablar del romance, que es de los mejores desarrollados que he leído. No es simplemente una relación tóxica o abusiva, sino que ambos personajes se ayudan a aprender, sanar y madurar. Existe un sentimiento mutuo en el que ambos se aprecian y respetan.
Además, la historia aborda diversos temas delicados como el racismo, homofobia, secuestro, abuso y más. No solo los trata sin morbo, sino que se nota que la autora realmente investigó los temas y los trató con la seriedad necesaria.
Los únicos puntos "malos" son que me hubiera gustado ver más sobre cómo Simón superó sus adicciones y ciertas conductas autodestructivas. Pero, realmente, creo que es una gran obra y merece mucho más reconocimiento.

De las mejores novelas que he podido leer. Es hermoso. Todo me llena de empatía y cariño hacia todo lo que puede representar la historia. El hecho de que no solo representen una problemática como la homofobia sino que la demuestren por medio de grupos extremistas y como problemática social casi central en una ciudad hace que sea realista y muestre partes de la sociedad que uno ignora, como el factor de que las personas de raza distinta y homosexuales claramente tenga más desventaja por el privilegio blanco.
Es hermoso ver el desarrollo de los personajes y el sentimiento que se tienen. El perdón y la aceptación de errores pasados hicieron que la relación fuera mejorando de a pasos, sin apuros.
El final casi me destruye, creí que no se iba a despertar y me estaba preparando para romper en llanto. Agradezco sin fin la canción, que más parece poema, al final. Divino, simplemente una buena representación y una historia interesante y muy crítica socialmente.

I used to not add comics to my Goodreads bc it’s not “actual” books but comics are so good and I want to yap about how much I like them so why not?
Right off the bat, i want to say that this story is not a wholesome love story, it’s a manhwa about a biracial queer couple in the 1980s (? Not sure if the manhwa ever says the time period) so yeah, definitely got some darker themes. Honestly, reading this manhwa made me feel so helpless and mad which sadly reminds me of how I feel about current-day events. I think at one point, I thought to myself that everyone should read this manhwa and I still believe that.
If you feel like reading a bl manhwa that is unique and has a plot unlike many other bl manhwas (sorry not sorry) give Dark Heaven a try!!

Uno de los mejores manhwas que he leído. La verdad me hizo sufrir demasiado, pero por la trama. Es muy crudo respecto a todo lo que muestra, por lo que a muchxs les podría parecer muy fuerte. Les tomé mucho cariño a los protas y me alegra que al final de todo hubiera un final feliz y que además fuera muy bueno. Lo volvería a leer de nuevo.

Yo solo quería verlos felices. Me encantó como el amor lo pudo todo. Todo el amor que se tienen el uno al otro, que el amor de infancia prevaleció hasta casarse y más allá.
Lo que no me gusto fue lo crudo que fue la historia de fondo... Y lo peor es que es el día a día de muchas personas en la vida real 😭😭😭

Loved it!!! Really enjoyed I think it really touches on real world problems. It’s dark but I love that the couple got a happy ending I wish we got more at end about especially after all they went through. Glad they got their HEA together.
