The twist thrown in about halfway honestly short-circuited my brain for a bit. I was not expecting that, but I have even more questions now!

I like that Alto and Elva finally got to be lovey-dovey. They're so cute and deserve to be happy! Elva standing up to the High Priestess was great.

But I am terrified of what's to come for them. After the reveal with Shiyan's wife, things will get complicated and painful for sure!

4.5/5, well, that twist I did NOT see coming. I still don't know how I feel about it but it surprised me so that's always a plus and it also makes some other things in this volume (the more modern terms used in dialogue) make sense. The thing with Shiyan's wife, tho??? WTF?! Now I'm even more intrigued and worried about why she wants to meet Alto so badly ;; Also, poor Manieri. Elva can't seem to catch a break, and that high priestess lady needs to be thrown into the black sea. That ending is also SO ominous ;;

The pacing is back on track in this, which was nice, and I'm really glad vol. 4 comes out next month!

Compared to the other first two volumes, this one plunges deeper into intimacy, on both its beauty and its sorrow. Elva bares himself to Alto, but his silent tears reveal love and grief entwined. Achingly bittersweet!

It's just that the revelations kinda left a bad taste in my mouth. The sudden worldbuilding twist felt a little cheap to me. It feels absurd, and it stops feeling like organic tragedy and starts feeling like manufactured oppression. It’s harsh in a way that unsettles rather than enriches. Anyway, still a beautiful volume, it's full of emotional turmoil.

There was a lot going on. The added element of the world just seemed so unnecessary for me. I really wish they would focus on the couple conflict and have that be the driving story and not this strange world thing they introduced. I think the couple is still really interesting and has interesting conflicts that they need to work through so I love when we get to see that spotlighted, and I hope they do that more in the following volumes.

I saw the reveal coming as it's something that's been bothering me since Vol. 1. However, I have trouble understanding why it's necessary or what it means for the story going forward. I would love to be surprised, but this series is slowly spinning out of control. There are so many things going on and I don't know if the mangaka is actually capable of juggling all of them.

In questo volume la storia si evolve in modo inaspettato.

Da un lato la strada che abbiamo imboccato incuriosisce parecchio, dissemina qua e là molte altre domande scomode e interrogativi sulla vera natura dell'isola. Ma al contempo mi lascia molto perplessa.

In me non c'è stato alcun effetto "sorpresa" per le rivelazioni che ci sono state date, perché l'idea di un mondo evoluto fuori dall'isola e di un culto religioso estremamente conservatore che per qualche oscuro motivo tiene le redini dell'isola dall'interno, ricorda davvero troppo L'attacco dei Giganti . In sé questo risvolto di trama non è un difetto, ma proprio perché sa di già visto, pesa sulla freschezza e originalità dell'opera.

In ogni caso, siamo davanti a un bel terzo volume. Vedremo dove ci vorrà portare l'autrice con i suoi dolcissimi e innamorati Elva e Alto.

This volume was so good! There was definitely a lot going on here. Raised even more questions I cannot wait to get the answers to.

I was most shocked by the fact that the outside world is in modern times. I was fooled by this island of villagers that lives in an outdated style. It’s kind of its own utopia in a way. I didn’t realize they were the only ones living under an archaic rule. When cellphones started popping up I was giggling like mad. Alto and the Kannagi learning how to take selfies with funny faces was great.

I hope we get to see the Great Priestess taken down at some point. What a witch.

Mi aspettavo più calma nello sviluppo della loro relazione dal punto di vista fisico, visto e considerato che dal punto di vista psicologico ci hanno messo anni a realizzarla, però la loro dolcezza mi ha conquistato anche in questo volume, e vedere Elva geloso non ha prezzo.
Credevo all'inizio che la storia fosse rallentata, e invece mi sbagliavo! I nuovi sviluppi hanno ravvivato il ritmo, aumentando la mia curiosità, e non vedo l'ora che pian piano i nodi vengano al pettine.

La storia si fa più avvincente e i misteri si stanno rivelando più complessi di quanto uno potesse immaginare.
Sembra che l'isola in cui Elva e Alto abitino sia un luogo al di fuori del mondo e dalla società moderna
Ovviamente anche il rapporto tra i protagonisti diventa sempre più profondo e anche questo lato è costruito molto bene.
Vedremo come continuerà con il prossimo volume!

in this third volume of lullaby of the dawn, alto and elva’s budding relationship is tested as a dying kannagi is brought to be healed by alto. i really enjoyed this sequel! jealous elva was too cute😭. we’re also getting closer to maybe getting the story behind WHY this island is cursed…? which i’m super curious about! very excited to read the next volume.
