Huh. It's over.

This is one of those ones where all the characters play a part or just want to be there. A re-read would probably be good, but not a binge read as then it would get boring on the final book. Catch 22 sitch for me. Probably should've read Ollie's diary thingy before this one as a recap. Eh. Lessons learned. It's chaotic. After Fred's book, it feels like they were short changed and made the scapegoat. So the ensuing argument of save or kill Ell made me dislike most of them in that moment.

With so many characters, it felt chaotic. They were all there as a group and it felt clumped. I did like Stoker and Alex, and Stoker and Loch, they were fun. The Grell/Ted thing was sad. Fred rushing in with no plan was almost TSTL. I kept expecting Ell to lash out and accidentally kill him, or the cult to kidnap him and use him as leverage. The way they lost track of Fred was humiliating.

The climax felt anticlimactic. All that build up for, no. It was kinda funny, followed by is that it? Light and chaotic rember who is who, with me feeling the need to go back and read Ollie's and Ted's stories again. Overall an interesting series involving tentacles with plot.

Such an amazing ending to a fantastic series

Sigh… we’ll it’s happened. The final book of the Suckers series means we get no more of the amazing, funny, sweet and wonderful guys we’ve come to love along the way. I’ll admit, I’m sad. I’ve loved this series and I don’t want it to end but I have to say if it was going to end this was the way to do so. Sloane and Loch were at their finest as was every one else. As usual the plot was gripping - there was suspense and oh no moments and so much HEA I was ecstatic. I don’t want to say too much because I don’t want to spoil this at all but I’m a huge believer in ending a series with the reader knowing that everyone they’ve grown to love is happy and healthy and you get that in spades here. Not only that but all the loose ends are tied up in a nice bow. I genuinely think this is one of the best conclusion to a series I’ve read and while I wish we could have another 20 books I’m so happy with how this one ended.

This is the final book and as such ties up alot from the other books. Spoiler below.

Ell is the Kindress. It's a shock to everyone. Fred the most. And he's acting like the inhuman god he is destroying everything in his path. But Sloane, ever the optimist believes he, with the help of everyone else, can bring Ell back and save the world. Every single character comes back for this one. And yes, there is a very happy ending.

I hope to see a few side stories for this series some day. I'd like to see Rota get his body back for example. Or Stoker fall in love.

Thank you for the ARC read, I voluntarily give this book an honest review. Im so envious and jealous, I want Grahma the kitten doll also. Reader beware as this book has splitting antics both hilarious and daring, all to save a friend and family. The kindress was alive again only this time, Ell learns of his past. So let me great this right..these sages just think once the Kindress fulfils their request he is magikally go about his way? Fred and Ted are distraught after Ell new reality is altered. Which (Understatement) totally agree with them!  Getting to Ell before the cultists crew maybe harder then any of them had realised. Oh drunk Ollie is just adorable, even if he went against he no more drinking campaign. The rivalry between Loch and Stoker is hilarious just needs to get King Grell in on it also.

This one is for all the marbles. The much anticipated end of the series is here and it is SO bittersweet. Loch and Sloane have been an incredible pair of men to follow and I’m so sad that their story is ending.

The battle for the universe draws to an epic conclusion as the identity of the Kindress has been revealed and a cycle needs to be broken. We get to see how it all comes together and visit with all of the past characters who have played a part in this series. Ollie continues to be a favorite of mine and he pulls through in a fantastic way here. There was a moment or two while reading that I was worried about how it would all work out. Trust me when I tell you that the Kindress really doesn’t care who you are when you are in the way. Alas, Hiers comes through and doesn’t leave you disappointed.

While I am sad to see the series end, it was a 100% satisfying ending. Seeing Sloane and Loch working together with their signature banter and snark was lovely. Loch, being true to himself, still gives off golden retriever vibes and I love him for it. I can only imagine that Loch, Sloane and baby Pandora are living their absolute best lives and loving every moment.

📘4.6→5 stars. 19th Feb, 2026. i’m so conflicted. i’m also devastated the series is over and i won’t see my beloveds again (unless i reread). This picks up right where the last book ended and it’s nonstop action. Honestly shocked so much fit into 250 pages. That’s also the problem. For a plot this heavy, it needed to be longer. It left too many questions unanswered. Also it’s just hurt after hurt. Like, i haven’t cried like this since i read the finale of Harry P, 2 decades ago. Spoilers ahead and tropes at the end.
🔹Story- 3.8⭐, Characters- 5⭐, Sex- 5⭐, Epilogue- n/a⭐

It’s the last time i see my Rex as Sloane. Characters are mine and is for review purposes only.

👉Before diving in, i wanna mention the last little similarities. So far, this series had pretty much everything i ever imagined for a God x human story. An ever expanding, magically enchanted dinner table to accommodate a growing family is so specific, so freaking minute that i can't believe this book even had this in it!
Sloane couldn’t explain how, but the table was impossibly long with chairs for all of the guests to sit. It had to be a trick of some kind because Sloane knew the dining room hadn’t been large enough to hold such a big table, and he suspected Loch had something to do with it by the way he smiled.

👉DUDE!! i wanted a cute little interaction scene like this so badly!! Can't believe this book has this as well! 😭😭
Pandora wiggled out of Sloane’s arms so she could charge over to Loch and then wrap herself around his leg.

🔹The danger felt palpable. Definitely was on my toes wanting to know how they’ll get through this. That climax part literally had my hackles up cuz i got such a rush of anxiety reading it.

🔹Ok listen, yes. It kind of gives battle of Hogwarts vibes, but it has its own twist. And i've always said i loved the world building here. So a final battle with the help of an undead cat army does sound very good imo. And i think the Asra looked damn good! Definitely cinematic!

🔹God, it's beyond heartbreaking how much Ell and Fred suffer. Why'd it have to be like this? It's very heavy angst, more hurt than comfort. Their final reunion was super sweet tho. They went through hell & back for their HEA.

🔹There are 2 sex scenes. Early again at 38%. Both were responsive. They're just so alive in these moments. It's always good to read their intimate scenes. 2nd had restraints using tentacles. It's their go to move now and boy do i love it!! Fantastic series finale sex. There's also always some kind of creativity to those. Never a dull moment. i wish more books portrayed it like so.

🔹They did the whole "you can't possibly feel how i feel" dialogue from Baby's Day Out!
“She’ll be fine,” Stoker said quietly. “Don’t worry.”
“Do you have any kids?” Sloane asked.
“No.”
Sloane smiled. “Well, if you ever do, you’ll understand that not worrying is never an option.”

🔹Stoker is my fav side character and there was a moment i genuinely started crying cuz i thought the fucker died or something. Ofc he didn’t but still.. i was so mad at him for attempting what he did. Even madder knowing that we’ll never get his book.

🔹And something i only just realised, this series has a good amount of body horror. Especially this one.

🔹The most devastating part, though, was the Kindress. Hey, spoilers. But fuck me this part was devastating…

🔹Look. Was the ending convenient? Yes. Afterall, these characters have their own books, so ofc they’ll get their HEA! So yeah, it softens the pain of loss in a heavy handed way… but i didn’t care. This book spares it and i was absolutely here for it. Unless you’re rooting for the cultists. In which case… yikes.

This also had a good amount of issues. Most of which arises from the short length of such a heavy series finale:

♦️Too many plot points becuz of which, some things didn’t add up. If Stoker had that super secure pocket world, why not move everyone there from the start? The temple was already compromised. i know it’s a plot device, but still.
Also, some mysteries remained unsolved like what happened to Rota’s body? If Stoker checked the fountain, why didn’t he find it? We never found his body. What happened to Mayor’s niece olivia, the cultist? And we were never explained the WHY of it all. Like why was Kindress’ cycle finally broken? Why was Ted the key? Why was Sloane always so favoured? Why didn’t Sloane tell Loch the truth of what happened, ie, him visited by his parents’ souls?

♦️i was really hoping Great Azaethoth would show up to explain himself & reunite with his child. But that never happened. i loved the subversion in the climax, but it still felt a bit too unbelievable, even with my disbelief fully suspended.
“And his touch doesn’t hurt anyone now. Great Azaethoth must have taken it away. I don’t really understand how, but… it’s done. The cycle is broken. Ell is just Ell again.”

Yes but WHY tho? This some “Somehow, Palpatin has returned” ass type explanation 🙄.

♦️And wait.. so, Azzath was literally burning Eb from the inside and it did… nothing?? Only the starkiller sword works? Not even a God’s full blast? That part never made sense to me. Loch/Azzath is powerful, but during battles he & the other Gods felt like only accessories to Sloane. i wanted to see Loch land the final, devastating blow for once.

♦️It bothers me that not one of them had a son.

Non issues:
♦Naaww! You're telling me Eb, Ebb & Ebbeth are evil? 😭 And the goddess of compassion was EVIL too?!?! 😭😭😭

♦OM Drama: None. But listen to this: 😂 In order to revive Stoker, Loch had given him his "healing juice" which is basically just his cum. 😂😂 Ofc Sloane had told him it's okay to do that cuz, it can and did literally save the man's life. But then Stoker & Loch were bickering over it! It's just so funny.

Tropes & tags: •Human witch x God, •found family, •high angst, •final battle, •action packed, •care taking, •some presumed sacrifices, •verbal assurances, •cheek nuzzling, •high stakes, •no breakup, •no cheating, •no om drama, •HFN→HEA.
Sex acts: •Triple P, •DAP, •tentacle sex, •moaning, •knotting, •crying/sobbing (in sex), •bj, •restrained by tentacles, •strict roles Loch /t Sloane /b.
CW: MAJOR SPOILERS.

This was a very epic conclusion to the series. I felt like it wrapped most everything up very well (with a few trailing edges that could perhaps be spun off??)

Although they’re in the POVs of two different couples and set mostly at different times, I felt like books 8 and 9 really need to be read together for best understanding and enjoyment. But really, this final book builds on everything that came from all the previous books. It was wonderful to see everyone come together to fight for the universe, and there were some excellent twists and turns.

This book mostly focusses on the threat to the universe, which made perfect sense to me given that its potential ruin is imminent. One of the intimate scenes was kind of a weird jolt (although there was a good enough plot reason for why it could happen, and maybe it was meant to give us a break from the other action, lol). I was definitely most invested in the fight for survival.

I liked how hard Sloane tried to stay true to himself, how everyone sometimes snarled but pulled together, how Pandora will always set things on fire, and there will always be (in)appropriate moments of humour. They definitely didn’t all agree all the time, but they (mostly) figured out how to get things done. It was nice to see everyone from all the books. Given how many characters there are, they definitely couldn’t all get a ton of screen time, but it felt like they were all represented.

I was quite happy with the resolution overall, feeling satisfied with the conclusion for everyone but willing to spin off if a spin off happens. I was very relieved by all the beautiful HEAs that were achieved or confirmed by the end of the series.

I went into this book, which finishes the series (gentle note, start at the beginning if you haven’t already) with high expectations: delighted to see some beloved characters again, a little salty that, like all good things, it had to come to an end, and curious to see what all these plot threads would, at long last, get woven in to, and I have to say I was not at all disappointed. There’s so much to like here: the creativity of the world building, the chemistry the characters share, the banter (love it, live for it, it’s snappy and witty and weird in all the best ways). I’m not even going to try describing plot events (experience those on your own terms) but I will say that it’s so, so satisfying the way things wrap up, and well worth checking out.

Plot: The final epic battle facing Sloane, Loch, and co in preventing the end of the world by the machinations of Jeff and his followers.
Feels: Heart palpitations of the horror kind when you forget that K.L. Hiers always gives you HEAs, right?
Drama: Hmmm having your friend turn into Kindress and go on a rampage? Just a bit of good drama
Heat: 3/5
Characters: All of them!
Pacing: Fast
Length: Understandably longer, but still need more!
Ending: HEA for Sloane and Loch and the overarching storyline of the battle against the awakening of Salgumel. Was disappointed there was no special epilogue for Rota, Alexander, and Ollie, but I'm hoping that's because they need their own special bonus story!

This book was good, and wrapped up all the loose ends well. It felt a titch rushed, and one Sloane/Loch scene felt a bit like “where did that come from? Kinda trying to save the world here!” but then I suppose that is Sloane and Loch all over. Felt a little abrupt is all. Thrilled that everyone got their HEA but not ready to be done with this world yet! I hope it’s not the last we see of it, but I think the author might have been ready to move on from the main storyline and wrap that aspect up? I would love to see more of Ollie/Alexander and they never found Rota’s body! A fan can hope…

Tropes: end of the world, apocalypse, danger, violence, death, grief, loss

As the last book in the series (except the novella for Jay/Asta, and Ollie's omnibus) this really covered everything. We got a resolution to the series arc, plus all the individual arcs (except for Alexander/Rota). Plus it tied all the past events together pretty well. It did everything a good final book should.

Favourite Quote:

"Fred held out his arms and remained where he was. "No point if I don't have him. Go on. Leave if you gotta. But I ain't goin' anywhere."

The last in a series is always bittersweet, but this was even more so. Sloan and Loch and their merry band of family and friends set out to save the universe and the journey is enchanting. KL Hiers’s talent for world building is immense and beautiful. I hope we get to see more of them in the future but knowing I can visit at any time is a lovely thought. If you haven’t read this series, please do - you won’t regret it!

Still processing, all I can say for now without spoilers is that it was well worth the wait. A couple loose ends that make me hope there'll be more some day but even if there isn't (pleasepleaseplease let there be a sequel!) it is a very satisfying "end" to the series. Five stars no question -- I was up until 3 a.m. reading!

Well it was a weird but intriguing ride. I was dubious at first and honest I'm not converted to tentacles. But the world building was spot on. Each book each couple. The lore. The humor was great. What started as a maybe 2 to 2.5 star series definitely finished on a 5 star series.

A fun book and lots of unexpected turns and twists.
Doesn't feel like an arc conclusion since Rota still didn't find his body.

Ultimate battles and love concurs all! Loch and Sloane are back for the final showdown. Calling on everyone from previous books for this conclusion, it is truly explosive. But don't worry there is time for smexy explosions too.
I loved it!

The series finale is truly an epic contest between the Gods. Sloan and his hubby Loch face off with their friends against other Gods to stop the Kindress, their friend Ell from destroying the world. The whole series has been a build up to this moment though it can be confusing with all the Gods and who is on whose side. I loved the perfect ending with all loose ends tied up in a bow, Sloan and Loch's sexy times and the happy ending for their friends. It's a satisfying conclusion to the series. I received a copy of this book and this is my honest opinion.
