Kristi Belcamino has put me in a bad spot. I read the first book in the Gia Santella series, and my immediate reaction was to dislike the MC. All throughout the book, I found her whiny, entitled ways not just off-putting, but dangerous for anyone in her orbit. Of course, the behaviors were dangerous to herself, but the choices she made affected her family and friends. That is unacceptable.

Then, I received another opportunity to read the entire series. I bought the box set not knowing that I had already read the first book, which I panned. The title had been changed. I guess I must have been in a better, more understanding headspace during that second read and now I was getting a bigger canvas from which to view the character. The second book was wonderful. The reader sees Gia Santella making better choices.

She is intentionally repairing flaws of character. She is productive and demonstrating growth. Here, in Book 3, I feel like I have received a kick to the crotch. All of Gia Santella's personal growth, and all of her character repair have not served her at all. Listen, I can understand experiencing tragedy, but agony as a singular note for communicating a story is boring.

If this series is going to be an elevator ride of ups and downs without the ability of getting off on the top floor to enjoy the panorama, then why do this? I need a break. In the end, I may not finish the series. I will probably read the next novel and make a determination then. Whatever the case, I am so disappointed.

“Kristi Belcamino takes the reader on an emotional roller coaster in this third Gia book. This is a sensitive, powerful thriller which moved me and will stay with me for a long time. We begin with a happy, more carefree Gia enjoying a wonderful Italian dinner in San Francisco with Bobby. They are celebrating his birthday and she gives him an incredible present – a 3-week vacation in Italy. The trip will begin with the wedding of Dante and Matt, then to Sicily to see her mother's villa and lastly to see the whale sharks. Gia is sure after the wedding, she will finally be able to tell Bobby she loves him also. But tragedy strikes before they even leave San Francisco in the form of motorcyclists dressed in black. Once in Italy, they stay at a luxury villa with beautiful views of the water below. However, several things begin to happen filling Gia with a sense of dread and foreboding. Gia goes on to experience love and heartbreak which forces her to want vengeance. This book is filled with superstitions and several Italian phases along with picturesque settings in Italy. We learn more about her mother's background and the mafia makes an appearance. The Queen of Spades is a new amazing character who enters Gia's world. I want to read more about her. In usual Kristi style, she gives the reader enough details to have this be a standalone but to really experience this book – you must read the first two.

As a fan of Gia, I was expecting the usual kick-ass Gia but instead, the reader sees a human, broken, torn down Gia. But in typical Gia style, she regains her life by pledging revenge on those who have hurt her. While reading, I also experienced Gia's dark night of the soul. The first two Gia books are filled with action, this third installment is extremely poignant. I consider the characters in this series – Gia, Bobby, Dante, Matt, etc. as people I have come to know and care about. Therefore, sometimes I found it hard to keep reading because I was choked up with such strong emotions. This is due to Kristi's ability to evoke powerful feelings through her writing. What I have thoroughly enjoyed about this series is these books are compelling and you find yourself unable to break away until the last page. Gia and the Dark Night of the Soul is another must read!!”

-What makes this series so interesting is that the author has Gia, the main character, in adventures that involve her family and those very close to her, but, as in real life, even those people may find themselves dead. That seems to be a pattern around Gia’s life, as the first and second episodes had us witness those who were very close to her, all dying.
-Those fears were very evident when Bobby, her current boyfriend who was introduced in a previous book, was patiently pressing Gia for something more out of their relationship. She at first felt that she couldn’t risk being close to someone again, but she was finally feeling that her life was in order. She was making major successful changes to salvage her late father’s import business and was going to work to oversee those changes on a regular basis; she stopped smoking and drinking and felt she had something to live for. She knew that she was close to being able to return Bobby’s feelings to her.
-While she was out with Bobby and she was standing with him outside of an Italian restaurant, a car came hurtling toward them. Bobby pushes her out of the way just in time, but the car slams into a corner only a few feet away from them. Several people are killed, and the driver is thrown from the car. Despite the fact that Gia herself was very shaken up, she managed to rush to the injured woman driver and held her head up. The woman had a horrific head injury, and Gia held her until she died. But not before the woman looked up at Gia and kept repeating in Italian, “it is you.”
-To make up for the fact that Gia hadn’t been treating Bobby with as much affection as he had been openly giving to her, she rented a villa for her and Bobby in Italy and was taking Bobby to also attend the wedding there of her dearest friend, Dante. The wedding was going to be a large affair because Dante was getting married to Matt, a US Senator.
-But before the wedding is even over, masked cyclists move in on motorcycles and gun down many of the wedding party. Matt is in critical condition and Bobby has been killed. To make matters worse, Dante believes that the killers, who appear to be mafiosa, targeted the wedding reception to get back at Gia.
-When Gia discovers that the shooting involved a mysterious woman who is waging war on the mafia, known as The Queen of Spades, and believes that the woman was at the scene of the killing, she wants revenge against her, but then also finds out that she actually is targeted for assassination and must do whatever she can to stay ahead of the killers, finding herself only moments away from death in the process.
-There is plenty of action, which the author excels at in her descriptions, and the introduction of a new character that will have an impact on the life of Gia in the future. The plot is well done and certain parts then make sense when you reach the end. Very enjoyable and a great example of this author at her best.

I'm not sure how Kristi Belcamino does it, but each book in her Gina Santella is better than the last. The first two books were definitely five star plus reads, yet somehow this one is even more riveting. Her third book, Gia and The Night of The Lost Soul, while just as action packed as the first two books, gives the reader deeper insight into Gina as she continues her life after the devastating loss of her entire family.
In the first two books, Gia in the City of the Dead and Gia and The Forgotten Island, the reader meets a fierce and fiery 23 year old, angry and grieving heiress, determined to avenge her family's deaths. Her coping methods include: drug use, too much alcohol and meaningless sexual encounters. In spite of her "demons," she never steps away from a challenge-thus the thrilling first two books.
In Gia and The Night of The Lost Soul, we find Gia in a better place physically and emotionally. She appears to be managing her grief, is successfully running her father's business and has curtailed her vices significantly.
Gia's relationship with Bobby Kostas, the man who notified her of her brother Christopher's death, has intensified, although she still is unable to say the three words Bobby so wants to hear-I love you. She and Bobby are embarking on an extended trip to Italy for the wedding of her best friend Dante Marino and his partner Senator Matt Stinson. Following the wedding they plan to go to Sicily to see the villa given to her mother by the notorious, now dead, Mateo Turicci; it's Gia's intention to sell the villa as it holds no good memories.
The joy of the wedding is very short-lived as four motorcyclists, dressed in black and wearing sunglasses, storm the reception wielding guns and shooting. At that moment Gia's life and those closest to her are forever changed. Gia is determined to extract vengeance on those responsible.
Gia's quest introduces us to Detective Brossard, the Queen of Spades, Strege Nimonetti, family members of Mateo Turicci and the Italian Mafia. All of her encounters lead her to her mother's family, the Bonadonna family.
Belcamino's writing is so compelling that I was mesmerized by Gia's transformation and cheering for her as she struggled to find the answers she needed to be able to move forward. Her journey is filled with detours, death and despair, yet the indomitable Gia perseveres.
Gia and The Dark Night of The Soul is my favorite Belcamino book to date, and I am a dedicated fan of this series and her wonderful Gabriella Giovanni series. I highly recommend this five star plus, fast-paced, emotional and exhilarating novel. It is a stand alone novel, yet the reader will benefit from reading the first two as they will provide content that will enhance your reading experience.
I was fortunate to receive an ARC of Gia and The Dark Night of The Soul, however that in no way influenced my review.

Gia and the Dark Night of the Soul - a review by. Rosemary Kenny

Family, whether blood-related or those emotionally linked as much as if they were, is a major theme of Kristi Belcamino's third novel in her excellent Gia Santella series, Gia and the Dark Night of the Soul.

Death stalks Gina, although sometimes he's off-target meaning the innocents her pay the Grim Reaper's grisly price on her behalf, leaving our heroine even more distraught and guilty as a result.

Believing her actual family are all dead, (murdered on the orders of her Mafioso godfather) Gia despairs of taking down the perps before she can trace the eponymous Queen of Spades - and kill her!

A deadly 'game' of hide-and-seek ensues, but gives more questions than answers, as it leads from her home in California to her family origins in Sicily.

An original take on how a drink-and-drug addled, vacuuous socialite turns her life around, while managing to accept complex emotions ranging from the death of loved ones, the guilt from believing she's a 'plague Mary,' (who brings death and destruction to those she cares about and accepting she has finally found true love, Gia and the Dark Night of the Soul by Kristi Belcamino, will make you gasp in fear at Gia's predicaments and melt your heart when she overcomes them.

In this, Kristi Belcamino's third novel featuring her sexy Italian-American protagonist Gia Santella, life finally seems to have taken a turn for the better for Gia as she prepares to travel with her boyfriend Bobby to a destination wedding in Italy, where her dear friend Dante will wed his lover Matt, a U.S. Senator. Enjoying her time with Bobby before the wedding Gia decides the time has finally come for her to fish or cut bait; she is going to tell Bobby that she wants to spend her life with him, something she has been terrified of doing because she believes that everyone she is close to will die because of her. But the rehearsal dinner goes well, the wedding ceremony is lovely, and the party moves to the reception space for a joyous evening.
However, the reception is suddenly and violently interrupted, and Gia's visit to Italy takes a life-altering turn. The long arm of her family's mysterious past touches her once again, and Gia must rely on her wits, training, and survival instincts to cheat death as she faces her greatest challenges yet.
If you enjoyed the first two Gia Santella stories you will love this one!

A fast-paced thriller with a lot of craft showing from the author. I'm not into feisty, kickass heroines as much as women might be, but Gia Santella is fleshed out nicely--lots of flaws and some unique assets, quite believable. Her supporting characters are realistic and distinct. The plot felt slightly convoluted and I was never quite sure who the good guys and bad guys were. For a while, it seemed as if everyone was trying to kill Gia, even after a mass murder at a party that killed several people, including Gia's boyfriend and another friend. But the setting was intriguing--Sicily--and Gia's Italian roots and family played a big part in the story.

Overall good, but not my "cup of tea."

Gia is doing her best to get on with her life and leave the past behind her. She getting a handle on her grief, but doesn't quite have it yet. Gia's personal life is better, but she isn't ready to commit yet to Bobby Kostas. Not sure if it's because he told her of her brother's death or just Gia's past.
While her and Bobby are going to a wedding then to Italy, so she can sell the villa there that holds no good memories for her. Soon after the wedding 4 masked people come in on motorcycles and guns blasting. Everything is changed is again for Gia. Gia is now on a mission to right the wrong that happened to her friends. Sit back, get comfy, and enjoy how Gia unleashes on those who deserve it.

That read was an emotional roller coaster of epic proportions and I don't think I will EVER forgive Dante, we wasn't my favourite of Gia's friends in the first place and now he he lower than her worst enemy, he is seriously the suckiest so called best friend ever, who the hell needs enemies with friends like Dante but lucky, lucky Gia has sucky friends and loads of enemies to.

It's hard to keep a review short when I'm so pissed at the end of a really good book...lol so I'll just say it was a freaking awesome read it made me laugh, cry and want to throat punch multiple people I also want to give Gia a huge hug.

Oh the emotional rollercoaster this book took me on...was phenomenal. There was Love, violence, devastation, hope, family, loss and so much intrigue and action.

Gia and her closest friends are in Italy for Dante’s wedding. Her life and love are going well and she is happy. But then things start going wrong and the joy is cast out quickly. There are some new characters and returning names. There is a slew of action, travel and memorable scenes. I have enjoyed all of Gia’s stories so far, but this one is my favorite to date.

I look forward to the next book to see how the new revelations and relationship motions are going!

Book 3 in a series and I haven't read the first two. A pretty good mystery about an Italian woman who is rich and spoiled. She likes her booze, drugs and indiscriminate men quick and easy.

The story is fairly predictable with a dead mother and father who died mysteriously, a sociopathic brother and a mysterious Italian godfather. Gia must solve the mystery of the origin of documents - letters really - found in her mother's closet, hidden in a cupboard in the wall.

An OK book that is easy to read.

Adventure, romance, murder, kidnapping, evil vs. good! Travel, discovery, heartbreak...this one's got it all, in spades! Gia Santella takes us on a roller coaster ride of adventures, where mystery and fear are only topped by a broken heart. So well written, we feel all our heroine's emotions as she tugs at our heartstrings. I love books like this that truly engage the reader. Buy it, read it, it's good!

A great read!

Gia is a young woman with a few really good friends that respects and love her. They know she is a true friend to them and she has their back. A tough friend but a good one. I hope,
when I read the next book that Dante remembers how much she means to him. Great read, all of these from the beginning to now. Kristi is a wonderful and interesting writer. Will start on the next book tonight.

I love the Gia series. Every novel in this series keeps you captivated. Someone is out to kill Gia in this novel. She travels to Italy to attend the wedding of her best friend Dante. At the reception, motorcyclists come in shooting automatic weapons. Dante's partner, Matt, is killed as well as Bobby, her special someone. Gia does not have time to grieve, as she seeks revenge.

Kristi's books were recommended to me and I acquired several as I worked on my reading queue. I enjoyed the prequel so much I binged my way thru 6 of Gia Santella's adventures. A kick ass female on her way to finding her true self and her place in the world. Great characters and story. Non-stop action and layers of intrigue will keep you reading long after you should have been asleep.

Addicted to this author!

I enjoy the way the characters are given to the reader and the feelings displayed by each one. You are drawn into the story not really knowing what to expect! One of the amusing things I like is the names given to the chapters. Lessons learned are an abundant supply and you see the character growing from events experienced.

Gia and her boyfriend Bobby go to Italy for a wedding. Happy, right? Nope. There's murder, secrets, fast cars, wild parties, and a whole lot of entertaining mystery going on. This latest entry in the series is as fast and reckless as Gia herself, with some surprisingly satisfying emotional moments.
