An intense programmer and a hard partying social butterfly have nothing in common...

But the sparks fly anyway when Madison Benedict offers Oliver Hayes a quiet space to work in the daylight hours of Austin's premiere nightclub where she makes major bank working bottle service for VIPs.

Oliver sees more to Madison than she ever shows the rest of the world, and as he begins to challenge her choices, she finds it harder and harder to hide...herself. Her ambitions. Her dreams.

And her feelings.

But Oliver isn't the only one who sees past the exterior everyone else takes for granted. Madison sees a man driven by secrets, and she's determined to uncover them.

Will their determination to see behind the other's mask send them each further into hiding? Or will their teasing and scorching kisses draw them deeper into a relationship each of them is sure they don't want?

awwww so cute🥰this was the perfect quick and light romance!!! i loved the characters, i loved the whole plotline, and i loveddd the pop culture references!! 🤩 Madison was such a good FMC! She had so much depth and even when it might seem like she has a "shallow" job and personality, it's a lot of just a persona she puts on. And Oliver is bf goalssss🤭 i legit love him smmm!! his sweet, nerdy, yet so hottt personality was amazing!! plus the tattoos?!?! and his sense of humor?? obsessed🙃 i loved how close Madison and her besties were, that was so sweet to read!! i gave it 4 stars for two main reasons: the whole "bestiessss" thing got annoying. i think that the author was trying too hard to convince ppl that they were super close and it came across as almost fake. secondly the whole family drama could have been way minimized. i think that it was a valid plotpoint, but i think it was a little complicated and overplayed. and i feel like the marriage of convenience thing was very sudden and a little bit too quick, felt very much like the author didn't know what to write, so she randomly added that. i didn't mind it as we were introduced more, but it was pretty sudden. i feel like Madison is soooo similar to Lorelei Gilmore, and i just loved that☺️ overall, this was a super fun and easy summer romance that i would def recommend!!

This sweet romcom is the continuation of a series I adore by Melanie Jacobson. Her writing always makes me laugh, and this is no exception. Plus. There’s a litter of brand new kittens that star in this plot. That alone would have me picking it up. But a fake wedding that is 7/11 themed because it is a marriage of convenience? LOL amazing. I can’t wait to see Ruby get her HEA!

❤️Tropes❤️
💋 marriage of convenience
💋 grumpy/sunshine vibes
💋 secret heiress
💋 Catdaddy MMC

Madison has known she grew up in money her whole life, but she learned quickly once she was out on her own to hide that part of herself if she didn’t want to be treated differently than others. Add in the fact that she loathes how that money was made, and you get the reason she is a bottle girl at an exclusive club. One of her best friends asks her to let a mutual friend work in the club during the day for quiet. The same one who bet her that she could help her find her HEA (that she doesn’t even want, thank you very much) After quickly confirming that Ruby was not in fact trying to set her up with Oliver, she agrees. She has nothing in common with this man, in his hoodies and his extremely talented coding skills, so there is nothing to worry about, right?

“He’ll learn a lesson I rarely bother teaching: never underestimate me.”

This opposites attract set in the heart of Austin immediately stole my heart with its light-hearted banter, simmering swoon, and dazzling setting. Tech master Oliver has many facets that intrigued me and he surprised me at every turn, while social butterfly, club worker Madison is so carefree that I half expected her to take flight, but I was fascinated by her smooth and slippery character.

This author does a phenomenal job of bringing these two to life and in a way that left me desperate to discover more. I enjoy her writing style immensely and the romantic tension was everything. That first kiss had me melting in a gigantic puddle on my couch. Throw in a secret identity, all things 7-11 for a wedding of convenience, and a kindle of kittens, and my heart was stolen completely. I really can’t say how much connection I felt to this story and its cast of found family. This is definitely a story I’ll be savoring and randomly thinking about for a very long time.

Book three in the Betting on love series was just soo much FUN! Each book in this kissing only series featuring four best friends falling in love thanks to the help of their crafty librarian roommate, Ruby, gets better than the next!!

In this one we get forced proximity, friends to lovers, marriage of convenience and cute cat co-parents all mashed together with a side of mistaken identity and strong female friendships.

I LOVED Oliver and Madison and how well they matched - each with hidden depths that only makes the other fall harder the more they get to know one another.

This book could be read on its own but I highly recommend reading the first two books in order, not only because they are equally amazing but also to fully appreciate the cast of side characters who feature prominently in this book too.

Both of the first books are available exclusively on audible and no doubt this one will be heading there soon. In the meantime I will be counting the days until I can get my hands on matchmaker Ruby’s story and see if she finally realizes Charlie is the guy for her!

Another wonderful story from Melanie Jacobson! I'm so loving this series and can't wait to read Ruby's story... but no pressure, Melanie! LOL

Like Books 1 and 2, Ada and Oliver's story was witty, heartwarming, and satisfying. I know I keep repeating the same things for all of the books but it really is true! Jacobson successfully does sweet without being too sicky sweet so that your teeth hurt. AND as an added bonus there are extremely cute kittens as part of the supporting cast. Yay!

Just PG kissing and no profanity. Yay!

Absolutely adored this book!

I couldn’t put this book down and devoured it in less than 24 hours. Perfectly enjoyable on so many levels.

Fantastic characters, sweet, funny and a perfectly executed marriage of convenience… right down to the 7-Eleven wedding. Melanie Jacobson knows how to write witty banter and gosh, I love her books because of it. She always leaves me smiling because her romcoms are true romcoms and her comedic genius shines in this book.

Oliver is my favorite book boyfriend in this series, so far. I loved he and Madison together. I enjoyed the fact that they each brought something unique to the story. There were so many wonderful surprises about them, that I enjoyed discovering their many layers as the story was unfolding.

This release is sexy, hilarious, fun and all over good. Don’t miss it!

It didn't hold my attention

A matchmaking friend sets up a gorgeous, highly paid "bottle girl," who works at an upscale bar, with a handsome, fit, extremely successful computer programmer.

I had to force myself to finish this book. Ultimately, I skimmed through it in order to get to the end. I did not think these two were a good match, and I was not rooting for them as a couple.

This was such a cute story, and so much fun watching Oliver and Madison fall in love! I loved the clever banter and the back and forth between them. They were definitely opposites, but so perfect for each other.

Madison seemed pretty superficial in the previous two books, but you see how smart she really is and her depth of character.

I loved Oliver’s character, and that there was much more to him than being a tech nerd. He’s a wonderfully caring person, and the way he treated his employees was stellar and said so much about him.

What to expect:
Opposites attract
He falls first
Marriage of convenience
Dual POV
Matchmaking
Slow burn
Strong FMC
Hidden identity
Salsa dancing
Kittens
Family drama
Found family
7-11

If you enjoy a modern marriage of convenience, this is a good one!

Many thanks to the author for an ARC!

This book was a big disappointment. I loved the first one and liked the second one but this was just too crazy for me. No, really, it was unhinged. First of all there were pages upon pages upon pages (upon pages upon pages) about kittens. Oh my gosh. Do cat people even want to read that much about kittens in a romance novel, never mind us non-cat people?! This is a marriage of convenience story which is usually my favorite but I didn’t like how this one was done. The couple spends even less time together after they are married which was not at all romantic. But wait, I can’t skip the 7-ELEVEN THEMED WEDDING. Yup. I realize it was supposed to be funny and a way for Maddi to mock her parents but it was actually just tacky and kind of just mocked the sanctity of marriage. Okay even more spoilers from here on out. Be warned.🚨🚨🚨🚨 So get this. They decide they really like each other and want to try their relationship for real and choose to divorce so the money arrangement won’t be hanging over their heads. Okay whatever. But then they get engaged again on the very day their divorce goes through. Seems like a waste of time, resources, and tax payer dollars. I’m glad that Maddi was on her way to healing her relationship with her parents but she was upset with them over the very heinous things they were doing in their business and that the end she was moving towards reconciliation even though they hadn’t changed anything except a big donation. Dumb. So why did I keep reading? I was hoping for at the least the payoff of a good kissing scene or something but nope didn’t even get that. I don’t mean to be mean but I just really didn’t like this book. I think the author is a real big hit or miss for me and this was a miss. I’ll probably read the 4th one anyway so at least there’s that.

"I don't know the rules for how long it takes to fall in love with someone. On Tuesday, when I was waiting in my attorney's office, I googled it to see if I might be losing my mind."

I have been LOVING this series and the latest installment did not disappoint! Featuring four besties and one bet to find them all true love, this one was Madison's turn.

Madison is an heiress who has a bone to pick with her family, working as a bottle girl out of spite until she inherits her trust, so she can turn around and use it to right past wrongs. Oliver is a coding genius and founder of a start-up company, needing a quiet place to work during the day, and gets set up at Madison's club. They are complete opposites - nothing in common, not each other's "type", and yet time, a stray litter of kitties and two wicked senses of humor can't help but draw them to each other.

This was HILARIOUS and absolutely swoony. Oliver was a hot nerd with dry wit, mad salsa skills, and such a tender heart. I also loved his self-respect - in spite of a masked kiss where sparks flew, he refused to play it to his advantage if Madison didn't want him for what she saw and knew of him already. He knew who he was and owned it.

Madison was passionate, intelligent and fierce with such a big heart, and I loved how her story progressed! I felt both empathy and frustration for her, completely understanding her past and her decisions, while feeling frustrated with some of her shallow tendencies. But I loved watching her confront them, all while waking up to both Oliver's worth and her attraction to him. There were some tough conversations and I really appreciated the growth and issues resolved!

Read if you love:
🍾 Opposites attract
👓 Forced proximity
🍾 Witty, hilarious Jane Austen references
👓 Rescue kitties
🍾 Hot, tattooed nerds snuggling said kitties
👓 Banter
🍾 Marriage of convenience
👓 He falls first

These two, y’all, these two. They will be both your favorite characters and the ones you want to shake to make them see what’s right in front of them. They have the most lovely and snarky love journey and I was definitely here for it. They also challenge each other to be better and embrace all of their true selves. Plus their friendships with the other characters are the kind you hope to have in your life. Fair warning though, you might just have to go adopt a kitten (or three) after reading. I wish I could but I’m beyond allergic to them. So if you’re looking for a story that will stick with you and keep you laughing out loud or swooning super hard, this is the one you’re looking for. I certainly recommend it and can’t wait to add a copy to my own shelves.

"He’ll learn a lesson I rarely bother teaching: never underestimate me. I let my smile out. That was fun."

Happy Pub day yesterday to Betting on the Brainiac by @melaniejacobson_books and thank you so much for my arc!!

"I stand there, staring after her, motionless. Because she has blown my mind, and right now, I can’t even remember my own name."

Madi and Oliver are such realistic, relatable, and loveable characters! Madi is gorgeous, smart, strong, and funny! Oliver is our hot nerd with a heart of gold! The banter is spot on!!! There are hilarious moments mixed in with the hard real life stuff. It's the perfect blend! The romance is swoony and closed door!

I love Madi's roommates and their right friendship! And seeing Madi work on her talaria with her family especially her sister was beautiful! This has all the feels and I couldn't put it down!!

"Interesting. So this is how I die. Spontaneous combustion."

I highly recommend picking this one up!! I freakin LOVED it!!

Wow, talk about romantic tension! I loved the chemistry between Oliver and Madi as their seemingly simple relationship becomes more complicated with each page turn. They slowly discover things about each other as their proximity at the club and with friends reveals aspects that are hidden under first impressions. I love that they bond over rescued kittens, have a secret masquerade kiss that leaves Madi reeling- and guessing, and there is so much fun quirkiness like the 7-11 themed wedding of convenience. Madi's relationship with her family is dysfunctional, and I loved seeing how the dynamic with her sister shifted throughout the story. Oliver is just too good to be true, and he was such a sweetheart with his own struggles and desires. The roommates are in full force, especially Ruby the Matchmaker, and I enjoy the way they support each other and their variety of personalities.

This book captivated me from the get-go because I love me a good fashionista flirt who knows exactly what she’s worth and then add a quiet nerdy guy to the mix 🤌🏻 I’m a big fan of the fact that it wasn’t love at first sight, especially on Madi’s part. It just makes the romance so much more worth it in the end! Madison’s relationship with her family, particularly her mother and sister, had me cackling. I love how she delights in pushing all of their many buttons as they parade around with their wealth and prestige. Ugh, she’s such a good FMC! Melanie Jacobson really does know how to write some good books!
Oliver and his wide range of personas (code monkey, cat daddy, comedic genius, salsa dancer, etc.) were such a hit! His pining over Madi had me melting at times.

I almost lost interest when the kittens showed up purely because I felt like it got a touch sappy and cliché. But then…OH. MY. STARS. The masquerade salsa dance!!! 💃🏻 That was so stupid hot!! 🔥 AHHH! I’m literally dying! I haven’t read a scene THAT good in a LOOONG time! The tension!! The heat!! The chemistry!! Perfection 🤌🏻

The 7-Eleven themed wedding took the cake 🧡💚❤️ I didn’t think they could come up with anything more ridiculously hilarious than they already had and then they pull this out of their hats. I loved it! The unconventionality of it, especially with the wealth involved, made it absolutely perfect! The outfits were unimaginably ridiculous and the convenience store food items were the cherry on top 🥤🍫🌭

I loved the way this book came to a close! All the loose ends were neatly tied up with a bow and everyone got their happily ever after…weelllll not quite everyone. We’re gonna have to come back for book 4 folks so that Ruby can also find her true love 😏

Betting on the Brainiac
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
Author: Melanie Jacobson

I requested a digital advanced readers copy from Melanie Jacobson and providing my opinion voluntarily and unbiased.

Synopsis: An intense programmer and a hard partying social butterfly have nothing in common...

My Thoughts: This is the third book in the Betting on Love series. This could be read as a standalone, however, to get a true backstory of the characters and for complete reading enrichment, I would recommend reading them in order. This is a very sweet and heartwarming romcom by one of my favorite closed door romance authors. Madison is roommates with Ruby, Sami, and Ava. Ruby makes bets with each of her roommates (in the prior books and this one) for a perk, that she will find their true love. Now Ruby is 2-0 of finding love for the other two roommates. Madison provides Oliver a refuge to work during the day in the club, and in the process shows him her true self without wanting to. In turn, Madison is determined to uncover Oliver for who he is, behind the secrets. Will they end up in a relationship that neither even wanted? Or will the uncovering make them further bury themselves in the sand? This follows the tropes of friends to lovers, closed door romance, opposites attract, and marriage of convenience.

The perfectly timed witty banter between Oliver and Madison was amazing. Madison comes from wealth but is estranged from her family and just waiting for her trust fund to kick in, and her plans for her trust fund will surprise you. Oliver is a programmer trying to get his business off the ground with investors, and runs into a few snags along the way. Oliver sees Madison, like really sees her, and not this facade she puts up. If they get married, in paper only, it will solve both of their problems. The masked kissing scene, the kitten scene, and of course the 7/11 themed wedding were my favorite moments/scenes. I also loved the strong female relationships brewing in this series. In life, it is so important to have a group of friends that you trust and that will have your back, no matter what. These two MCs are two of the most unique characters that I have had the pleasure of reading for a while.

This story is narrated in a dual narration by Madison and Oliver, in their respective perspectives. Madison is sunshine, carefree, caring, and there is more to character than superficial. Oliver is an introvert, little grumpy, a tech geek/nerd, and shies away from relationships. The two of them together is amazing chemistry and so heartwarming. The characters were well developed with depth, witty banter, chemistry, creativity, and were intriguing. The supporting characters of Ruby, Charlie, and the other two roommates really elevated the storyline to another level. The author’s writing style was complex, closed door, clean, funny, heartwarming, beautiful, thought-provoking, and well written. Jacobson really is a true comedic genius, she rights laugh out loud scenes like no one else, the from your gut laughter.

This was such a sweet story. I have very much enjoyed the whole series and secretly hope we get a book for Ruby, either as part of this series, or stating on a new series. She deserves her HEA too. While this is closed door romance with only kissing scenes, the spice is not missed and the kissing scenes are elevated up to the swoon-perfection, steamy arena. I really enjoyed reading this series and always excited when a new one came out. I also have enjoyed Jacobson’s other works. I highly recommend this story, and the entire series. Go pick up today! Available on KU.

Reader’s Notes:

– this is part of a series, but can be read as a stand-alone

– this is told from Madison & Oliver’s points of view

– there are about 3 curse/not nice words

– it is mentioned that a parent is a hypochondriac

– it is mentioned that a parent had made very bad business decisions that cause a lot of hurt for their workers & their family

Review:

I loved this book so much! Madison was so fun and she kept both Oliver & me as the reader on our toes. I loved how Oliver quickly fell for her but was hesitant to approach her in that capacity for a few different reasons. I also really liked that I had seen promotions saying this book had a marriage of convenience, but that wasn’t the entirety of the story. In fact, the beginning had me ensnared to the point that I forgot that was one of the main tropes until we got to that part of the storyline! I loved that they had time to build a friendship of sorts before any notion of marriage was brought up. And I really loved all the moments with the gaggle of kittens these two shared! I am so excited for Ruby’s story after how she orchestrated these past few relationships for her friends!

Summary:

Madison is used to being underestimated and loves using that to her advantage. Especially when it comes to her family. One day though she has a fight with her father & Oliver -the software architect renting the nightclub for a quiet environment during the daytime hours- overhears, learning way more about her life than she likes to share. With the kind of wealth Madison grew up with, she would have gained a sizable inheritance if it weren’t for her father attaching strings in order to make it hers before she turns 30. But now, she has to get married to someone her parents’ can’t disapprove of if she wants to attain it, or wait until she’s of age to get it on her own. But Oliver presents Madison with a devious plan to pull one over on her father and still benefit her. All she has to do is agree to marry him…

Oliver is not looking for a relationship. Not while he still needs to spend multiple hours a day on his start-up’s coding. But when his friend suggests a quiet place that he can rent to gain more focus on his work, Oliver finds that though it’s quiet it might not be that conducive to getting work done. Yes, a night club doesn’t sound like a quiet place to work, but in the off hours it’s dead quiet. Though when you factor in the beautiful blond in charge of the place (Madison) who keeps surprising Oliver, he’s not always keeping an eye on work. And he isn’t upset about the change like he should be…

Rated G but great kisses. 😜
I almost gave this 2 stars because in my opinion it was over the top cutesy. Just….too much. Eye rolls and do I really want to read this. But I was laughing in parts and the main characters were great and I was invested in them. So 3.
Eye rolls at the end. Really? Good grief.
So, I probably will not read this author again.

Love this series and I love these Besties! I think Madi and Oliver’s story is my favorite so far!

This story has so many great plot lines and tropes! The girl who is hard to get, the guy who falls first, a kiss with a mysterious masked man, family issues and legal jargon, rescue kitties, marriage of convenience. ALL OF THE THINGS. I binged this book in a day and I have no regrets!

This story completely sucks you in and you immediately fall in love with Oliver, rooting for him the entire way. I honestly loved everything about him and enjoyed seeing how he was such a good friend to Madison despite the fact that being near her so often wasn’t helping his growing feelings for her. The banter and quick wit between Oliver and Madi was spot on and made for a lot of entertaining dialogue. I really enjoyed all of the straightforward, tough conversations they had together too. Plus the way that we see Madi’s walls break down and discover that the guy that “isn’t her type” very much is!

Absolutely loved this book and I can’t wait to get Ruby and Charlie’s story next!

I received an advanced copy of this book from the author. I was not required to leave a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Melanie Jacobson is an automatic read for me. ALWAYS! I’ve loved the “Betting on Love” books and was so excited to read this one! It did not disappoint!

Madison’s roommate, Ruby has been betting (and winning) that she can get her roommates to fall in love by the end of the year. She’s been successful with Sami and Ava and now it’s Madison’s turn. When Ruby sends her best guy friend Charlie’s nerdy, brainiac neighbor to work at the club Madi spends her days at, the fun begins!

Oliver and Madison are so dang cute! They start out as strangers, merge into friends, become foster cat/kitten parents, the a case of mistaken identity makes them into more (Madi just doesn’t know it!), and the next thing we know they are having an epic 7-Eleven wedding marriage of convenience!

Oh my gosh! These two are hilarious! The fun never stopped from beginning to end. This book gets a 1,000% yes from me!!

This is a slow burn book. Honestly wasn’t feeling it in the beginning as these characters don’t have a ton of chemistry. But I stick around to find out the catalyst to bring them together since Madison was fully in the friend zone with Oliver.

I typically don’t like meddling friend/family members. And I don’t know that you could really give Ruby the win on this hook up. I mean, she gets them together initially but there’s a lot that happens that Ruby has nothing to do with. I do appreciate Madison feeling betrayed to by her friend.

The crappy family of Madison’s was conflicted and had growth that I felt was not true to their characters. It felt like the issues Madison had with them were ones that most wouldn’t forget or forgive.

This was a fine read. Only kissing for the steamy and it wasn’t that magical or combustible. Characters are easily forgotten.

All the warm fuzzies!

I don’t know what I expected from this book….
but it was full of delightful surprises! While it has some familiar tropes, they are done with such a fresh take they feel new. You really can’t put it in a box. I loved Madison and Oliver. I loved the kittens. I loved the secret pinning. And the first kiss was everything! The ending was perfection. All the warm fuzzies!!

I liked it because it had a unique set of main characters and a unique story line. I didn't love it because of a few things one of which is the talk of witchcraft. That's a dark thing to add in to a romcom. I would have appreciated a more principled positive option there.
Also the wedding was clever and funny but so wrong. It was like making fun of a serious commitment. I also wasn't sure about the divorce, not feeling like that was the right step. But the remarriage was much more serious and meaningful that the first wedding. It was a memorable story though.

Listen I’m not a cat person and marriage of convenience has never really jived with my vibe but I did love the concept of working (and working out) in a night club but during the daytime. I think the 7eleven themed wedding is the thing I’ll remember most about this book🥤⛽️
