This is a gorgeous little book - only about 100 pages long but great content. It has a shocking cover which will put kids off from reading it which is such a shame. It is about a young lad, Nicholas, who after discussing the power of words decides that from then on all pens will be called Frindles. He falls out with his strict teacher over it as it catches on. He becomes famous and Frindle merchandise becomes big and he becomes rich. There is no nasty part to it, no meanness, it is all a good clean exploration of language, completed humourously and warmly. There is a lovely twist at the end guaranteed to great a feel good factor. This would be a wonderful short class read for about Year 5 children.
The Book Nick Allen was one of those kids that loved to "mix things up." He did when he invented the word, "fringle". (I had to add the fringle to my online dictionary.) When 5th grade teacher Mrs. Granger made life tough for Nick and his new word, fringle became a new fad.
My Thoughts This is a great book to get kids to step out of their own space and create something new. At least that's the message I took away from the reading of this interesting and fun read. Nick is a whitty and fun character.
I like this book, i like the boy is very confident in himself. Like when he is in class making the nois, and he invented a new word for a pen! This book is amazing i hope there are more like it.
Frindle was a great book that inspired me because if you do some little thing, it could change the world. Your ideas from when your little would come true if you devote yourself to your dreams
It has been a while since I read this book, but I specifically remember that it was a great book. The author did a great job using a creative idea for a book.
