Bringing together the key essays that have constituted this field since its inception and that point the way toward its future, Theorizing Diaspora is a central resource for understanding diaspora as an emergent and contested theoretical space.
I used this text in a class by the same name and found it to be interesting and (for the most part)accessible. If you have the slightest interest in critical or post-colonial theory, I'd recommend giving Theorizing Diaspora a read. There is some serious scholarship here, but nothing so heavy that even a dilettante such as myself would be off put by it.
Very good book for explaining diasporas. It refers to globalization, to transnational identity, to several minorities, to hybridity. I particularly liked R Radhakrishnan, Lisa Lowe, Stuart Hall and Kobena Mercer. Anyway the other authors of articles are worthy to read too, definitely. I read the entire book, but I focused on ethnic problems and particularly on defining identity when smb belongs to a diaspora.
