Featuring 200 photographs, this is a lavish celebration of Britain’s most beloved Royal, offering a fascinating look at the events of 20th-century Britain as well as an endearing portrait of the Queen Mother herself.
More of an illustrated book with plenty of photos of a young and very pretty Elizabeth. Came from a very well to do Scottish family. Describes events from her childhood, her 8 siblings and lucky for her a very comfortable life. A book you can easily flip through to get the picture
After I saw the movie, "the Kings Speech", I decided to read up on the wife of George VI, Elizabeth Bowes Lyon. This 1999 coffee table book was a kind and gentle read loaded with pictures taken before, during, and after she was Queen. Bits of gossip liven up this visual biography every once in awhile but the overall effect is that Elizabeth was one of the more warm-hearted members of the British Royal Family, a good wife and mother, and probably should have spoken out more often on family matters.
Graina Forbes first wrote ELIZABETH THE QUEEN MOTHER "A Celebration of a Remarkable Life" in 1999 before HM's death. She revised it in 2002. The book is "coffee table" sized & filled with many rare & unseen photographs. Ms. Forbes has written a thorough and kind biography of a true heroine. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
A nice, quick read. The writing is so-so. Doesn't go into tremendous detail, but the photos are absolutely gorgeous, especially the ones from the 20's, 30's, and 40's. They are what really make this book. A good intro into the life of the Queen Mum.
