I absolutly loved this book it was a thrilling read right from the start! The plot line was well thought out and very well executed, with loveable hunky characters i really can't wait for the next one
I cannot put into words, the wrecking ball that is the drama in this story! Megan and Jase are twins, raised on the run from a father with no scruples. He's a modem day Monstrous Psychopath, with a completely unnatural fixation on his daughter. Megan and Jase are clueless about why they are on the run, if a mistake is made or a flunky spotted they bolt. When they run to cottage in a small town, things change for them, they are allowed to put down roots and live at least a little. They get a step dad and Mom seems happier. But Megan's nightmare is just beginning. She makes a friend in a boy who lives across the way Trey, soon become best friend and they are inseparable. Though Jase has never been thrilled about their friendship, he has the chance to live a little too and he turns into the typical hot guy with a tons of female admiration. But there's an undercurrent that never lets Megan settle. After the traumatic experience that lead to their run to the Cottage and Mom's long lost love Peter moving in, there haven't been many surprises. Until Peter's nephews Blake and Devon come to stay. When Megan realizes that Blake is her rescuer from that long ago flight from Daddy Dearest, she's happy about it. But Blake may have saved her but that doesn't mean he knows how to be nice to her. Devon is easy going and funny, but Blake is distant and everyone is hiding something, even Trey who's been acting different lately. The secrets, pile up, Megan is always in the dark and the last to know. When things do come to light she has to pry them loose with a crowbar. I can't help but think that if she had a least a little of the story things would have worked out better, but you know family doing what they think is best even if it’s not. Meagan is going to have to face her past, meet the man of her dreams, deal with the betrayed of family, uncover secrets, and become the special women everyone is hoping and all without losing her mind. Definitely action packed and fast paced. When the ball rolls careful it doesn't roll you over. Great read, looking forward to reading more from this author.
I found the start of this book to be a bit rushed and I believe this was done in an effort to get the actual story going, but to also add some back story, while allowing the reader to be introduced to certain key characters. Once Megan learned the truth about her heritage and the reason her father was such a monster, the story eased up a bit, and I was able to enjoy it more.
This book was quite sexual, and while I found the elements of incest a bit disturbing, it was great to have a story that was so honest and open. Jackson never tried sugar coating things, and even though it made me cringe at times, it came with the territory and I could fully understand the characters reactions to certain events.
Megan's father has to be the most despicable character I have ever encountered, and I cannot wait for the day when karma pays him a visit. This book was intense, heart-breaking, but also one filled with hope and love. A good start to this series.
I opened this book with great enthusiam, and closed it with immense satisfaction. This is a well-penned story that had my fingers itching to turn each and every page! I highly recommend this to anyone looking to devour an impressive work of modern fiction.
Well, let me just say that this is a fantastic book, but it’s not for the faint of heart nor the weak stomached. It’s a thrilling, scary ride through the life of Megan, but it’s complicated, and dark, and hauntingly amazing. I have never been more shocked by a story’s plots, and bad guys, and twists, and secrets. Trust me, it’s full of things that are awe-inspiring. Plus, let’s just say that the characters will all surprise you. :)
Megan is a complex character. She’s a scared timid girl when you first meet her- for good reasons. She has been on the run constantly from her father, and boy would I run too. Actually I think I would find every way possible to kill him, but it’s a little more complicated than that. But anywho. So, as she moves to a place she feels safer, she begins to find her self and friends, and for the first time, it really feels like she has a family. Until… well, let’s just say when you constantly have to look over your shoulder, and watch your back, there’s really no way to not make a mistake. And when her new best friend seems to be in trouble, she gets herself in more trouble that she helps. Megan’s adventure, if you can call it that, is a going to wow you.
There’s so many side characters to talk about. Megan’s twin brother, her mother, her step father, her new best friend and his crazy sister, the crazy stalkers that come around every corner, her new step cousins, I could go one. There’s so many secrets going on between the different characters. And the plot was so well planned. I did not expect things when they happened. This type of crazy hasn’t been done before :) It’s one of those stories that I have to say, it was amazing, but sometimes hard. Some of those things may be hard, but they made the story. I definitely cannot wait for more of this story to go on. I seriously need a few to get what’s coming to them, both good and bad. 5 JAW DROPPING, HEART WRENCHING ACTION PACKED PAWS!
What I liked: At first I wasn't so sure how much of a story could be contained in the 130 pages this book has, but by the time I finished I realized that there had been no real need for my skepticism about this book when it started. Even at its small size this book has a well paced story with an ending that left me with so many questions because of the answers we received about Megan. Frankly, I wanted to know more. I thought the characters we meet were a nice bunch, they seemed well formed for such a short book and I came to really like Megan as a character, she grew a lot over the book. There's also so much that happens between the secret keeping and the other characters that I was surprised by it!
What I didn't like: Maybe a little more detail in some instances? I feel like the saying "the devil's in the details" speaks quite well for this. For me, details are very important and while I don't want an overly inundated text that makes me skim because there's too much detail, I felt like there could have been more to further immerse me in what Megan was going through. Also, in the beginning I didn't really like Megan because she just seemed to always be distraught over something (not that I blame her really) and while I was okay with it at first, after a while I just wanted action to start.
Overall Review: I found this to be a really good read, a good addition to the books I've read and managed to enjoy while having previous skepticism about it. While it wasn't exactly what I was expecting when I first started it or my conclusions based off the summary, nevertheless this was an entertaining story.
Recommend?: Yes! Don't always underestimate the shorter books!
There are some books that come along and make it so incredibly difficult to write a review, yet paradoxically deserve to have a thorough review so that other readers can make a more informed decision before diving between the pages. Herein lie my honest thoughts on Twisted Bloodlines by Linda Jackson which was free to download at the time I picked it up, though I was given review copies of the series as well. First let's start with the warning, this is not an easy book to read by any means, and in fact would probably be triggering for some people, and uncomfortable for others. Suitable only for an adult audience, there are graphic depictions of violence and sex and a combination thereof. Not your typical paranormal romance, this comes mighty close to torture porn, which brings me to my main criticism. There are absolutely ways to handle tough subjects, and this book didn't go about in a way which I can condone. Your main character is more relatable if they suffer realistic tribulations, not if they are victimized in nearly every chapter and constantly reliving a nightmare, not just in their head but in reality. A little goes a long way. Linda Jackson is superb in detailed descriptions, I'll be the first to admit that, plus she evoked such raw emotion and depicted the inner turmoil of her characters in a way that made you want to scoop them up in a bear hug. However, there comes a point when enough is enough. There was not enough substance to the story to make what transpired add anything other than abject terror. Due to these issues, I will not be reading further titles in this series and have to go with a 2 star rating for this one.
Oh If you enjoy this first book I know you will become easily addicted to the rest.
This is one amazing author.
Such a well thought out plot that plays out so fast you dont even realize how far you are in the book.
This is a must read for anyone who likes fantasy, shape shifter novels, or were books. It spins this fantastical world full of mystery making you wonder what will happen next to these characters.
Meg is such a tortured girl that turns into such a lovely and strong woman, when you concider all of the trauma she has gone through in her life.
Trey the neighbor is so utterly confusing. Most of the time I want to slap him upside the head.
Then there is Blake oh my im pretty sure when i read about his bad boy character with dark hair who rides a motorcyle I drooled ALOT. haha
But Blake is so obnoxious and mean to Meg at first that I also want to beat him up.
Whoa, that was intense! I thought that Garrison from Airicka Phoenix's Touch Saga was the worst of the worst .Oh no,not anymore. I think Megan's father, Deacon tops the charts when it comes to the vilest of villians. At the very begining you geta glimpse of the type pf man he is and it leaves you holding your breath praying he never gets his hands on Megan again. The sad part of all this is that although this is fiction, the autrosities that take place in the story really does happen in the real world we live in just minus the paranormal aspects. My heart shurts for the women who sufferd under Deacon's command. Now Megan and her mate must find a way to overcome inevitable and unseen obstacles and decide if love is strong enough to defeat twisted bloodlines.
There is some material in this book of questionable matter, so if your easily offended then I wouldn't read it. That said, It's a face paced action packed book with some sexed up supernaturals. I gave it a 4 because for me that's a lot of underlying themes and questions that haven't been answered and while they might be answered in the net installment it just left me with too many questions and a bit of an unease. I can honestly say i didn't have an easy time with the main subject matter but the fact that certain things weren't described in detail was a definite upside.
An amazing book. Kept me hooked from beginning to end. Would recommened this book to everyone to read and I bet that won't be able to put it down. I couldn't. Can't wait to read the second one in the series
I loved how the book introduced the characters, this give you a chance to understand the confusion Megan goes through with what she discovers, there is terrible violence, love and very hot men, it is a very good read and I can't wait to start the next one.
Megan has been abused and terrorised by her father and her family are running away from him again, helped by some people who know her mother, hoping to finally get some peace. But the past is about to catch up with them.
If you hate an MC who is a whiny, hot boy obsessed, childish idiot, then I'd suggest giving this one a miss. I get that Megan has had a terrible ordeal at the hands of her psycho father but the way she takes it out on everyone who risked themselves to save her drives me crazy. She bitches at her brother all the time purely because he looks like their dad. She whines about how her mother is constantly moving them to new houses (to get away from HIM you idiot) causing her upheaval and never having the chance to settle anywhere. And in the middle of her trauma this first night at her new home, she manages to lust after three different men in about the space of 30 minutes. Oh yes THAT is really likely!!!
She goes into the house for the first time and Peter walks in. SWOONS! Then she instantly gets mad because her mother knows the hot guy and she starts sulking. Instantly, she starts bitching about her mother having terrible taste in men. WTF is wrong with this brat? She goes upstairs to pick a bedroom, looks out the window and sees Trey next door. SWOONS! After Trey leaves she thinks about the guy on the motorbike who escorted them here. SWOONS! Oh come on author, this is instaluv gone crazy! She's supposed to be in trauma!
I hate Trey. He invites himself in, quizzes her, tries to force her to go outside when she doesn't want to, upsets her and is thrown out, but just wanders back in the next day and plants himself half naked in her bedroom as if he owns the place. Is this an American thing? Where I live, you wait until invited and you don't come back in after being thrown out unless you are asked to. This guy is a rude cretin and upsets her a second time in 24 hours. I would ban him from coming near the house.
Her family isn't much better. I understand Megan throwing a tantrum when nobody will answer a straightforward question like 'Who is Peter?' How is she to trust the guy to look after her if she knows nothing about him? Not that is stopped her fancying him until she thought he might be her mother's ex or something.
So, I wasn't greatly caring about what happened next as I think all the characters are dreadful! A few chapters of Megan's angst and tantrums was more than enough for me!
Great Read, this story is worth more than five stars!!! This story is a magnificent, well crafted tale of the life, family, and community of shifters (Panthers and wolves, to be precise). Even if you are not a fan of shape shifter stories, you would enjoy this read.
I can't say i actually enjoyed reading this because of all the messed up stuff, but it was full of action and made me want to know what would happen next. I consumed this novel within 24hours...it's just so messed up! It makes me sick...no Disgusted is a better word.
But, it was an intense story and had me on edge, I'm still thinking about this story and devoured it quickly...so I must of enjoyed it.
I enjoyed this book, a love triangle but this wasn't an issue for me. My main issue of this book was that the sequels don't follow the same main characters and I would like know more about their lives, and how they deal with the horrors they have lived with and the relationship barriers this has created.
Absolutely amazing. I love the twists and turns and the characters are very awesome I felt it all the way through and I wish I had the next book now I love it
