Matthew Romeo is a warrior poet. He has a healthy obsession with Star Wars, the Stormlight Archive, Cobra Kai, and Halo. When it comes to his career as a writer, he's been inspired by the likes of Frank Herbert, Bandon Sanderson, and Pierce Brown. Pure chaos is the way of his writing style, often flitting between methodical outlining or just winging the story as he goes. Outside of being an author, he works for an international shipping company and is a dad of two cats named Korra and Toph. He spends much of his free time playing Dungeons&Dragons, learning swordsmanship, practicing martial arts, and going clay shooting.

Matthew Romeo continues to write rip-roaring science fiction perfect for fans of Guardians of the Galaxy, Firefly, Blade Runner, Mass Effect, Warhammer 40, 000 & Star Trek with the second book of his Outriders Saga. Aelec Xero and his company of misfits, otherwise known as the crew of the starship Erinyes, fresh from the Golden Spire heist, seek to press their advantage against the corrupt official who destroyed his clan. When an old comrade in arms goes missing on the planet Oais while investigating an up and coming protest group, Aelec feels honour bound to help bring her home, but in doing so, he's stepping into a spiderweb set by his enemies, some of them foes who might be too deadly for even an Outrider...

The fact I keep getting through this book so quickly (2 days first time around, 4 days the second!) should show how good it is. With an awesome mix of action, suspense (Matt's a master of writing moments that take me by surprise), lavish scifi worldbuilding (Loved the Starblades in particular, they feel like a dark fusion of the Sith, Assassin's Creed and 40K Mandrakes/Incubi) & like his previous mid-series book Ones of Aster (and I did enjoy the little nods to the Maven Knight trilogy with those chapters over Terras), Imperium definitely gets you ready & wanting to know what comes next, particularly with the cliffhanger ending... Roll on Book 3, Edict!

HOLY WOW. I am usually not into sci-go but this was just a mix of so much and had me hooked from the first chapter! Select is trying to find a missing friend during this journey but there are so many traps that had me on the edge of my seat screaming at my kindle.. (whoops). The cliffhanger?! AHHH ready for book 3 and I know Romeo will top this!

I received an ARC and this review was left voluntarily, all thoughts/opinions are my own!

Star Wars meets Firefly

Huge Thank you for letting me be a part of the ARC team.

Matthew Romeo’s Imperium takes the reader on an adventure of interesting dynamic characters, a gripping plot, and strong character development. What I believe the author did well was keeping the reader guessing what was coming next, as the story kept me on the edge of my seat. The author masterfully drops you into this high stakes world, where danger could be lurking just around the corner. There is a little bit of everything in Imperium such as action, Twists, adventure, and cool technological systems. The only criticism I could offer is more or less a reader preference. I thought while the detail was important to the story, I felt like on a few occasions the detail took me out of the sequence where that detail could have been moved to an earlier chapter. This book is for you if you are a fan of classic sci-fi franchises and like to kick back and let the story sweep you onto an adventure.

Wow. I've read a couple other Mathew Romeo books, but this one blew them away. The world building and character development was so well done. I had such a clear image of what happened in my mind that I almost feel like I watched a tv show!

This book had me hooked from the first chapter. Matthew Romeo has the amazing ability to world build and describe everything going on, in a way that it's not over descriptive but you have a perfect image in your head of what's going on. So many points of this novel had me biting my nails or wanting to scream at my kindle! My heart was racing as I was fully immersed in the world and story! Can't wait for the next book!

Fans of Guardians of the Galaxy and Firefly will love this sci-fi mystery!

When an old comrade goes missing, Aelec must decide which is more important: justice for his clan or safety for his found family.

I’m not a big sci-fi reader, but I loved Guardians, Firefly, and Star Wars (which is why I read his Maven Knight series) and was not disappointed for giving this book a chance. From the very beginning, Romeo packs it with action. It kept me turning pages on the edge of my seat, wondering how characters were going to get out of situations and needing to find out if the author really did what I thought he did. There is an epic chase scene that reminds me of Geralt going after Detlaff from The Witcher 3 Blood and Wine DLC. Dylis and Goliath are my favorite characters and I would get excited any time they got a POV chapter. I got more backstory for the bug-man, and I’m eagerly awaiting more Dylis backstory in the next book.

If you’ve read his Maven Knight series, you HAVE to read this one because the author hides Easter eggs throughout the pages.

I've read my fair share of sci-fi novels, but Imperium really takes the cake! And it being the first book I've read of Matthew's, I am entirely impressed!

I liked how each of the characters had their own story, connected to each other chapter by chapter. It made every one of them likable and complex. My favorite, though, has to be Riza. Her youthful ambitions and dedication to the Erinyes crew, was something I enjoyed reading. Even more so, as her character development shifted to her doing whatever it takes to protect everyone she cares for.

Not only did I enjoy Matthew's characters in Imperium, I enjoyed the storyline. The prologue and epilogue alone gave me a clear introduction and ending to what Imperium would entail, to what awaits readers in the third installment of The Outrider Saga.

Could I say even more good things about Imperium? Of course, like the fact that everything felt like it had a purpose. From the star systems, how the tech worked and how cultures varied from race to race, to the deep personal relationships between characters and their own personal beliefs.

While I'm glad this could be read as a standalone, you best believe that I'll be reading the first book of The Outrider Saga ASAP.

Please, even if haven't read a book of Matthew's yet, I implore you, no HIGHLY suggest you pick up Imperium sooner rather than later.

I received an ARC copy of Imperium in exchange for an honest review.

You need this book. I need this book!

*no spoilers*

How do you describe a perfect sequel? I don't think you can, but I'll give it a try!

First, the heists are on point keeping you on the edge of your seat just like book one, Erinyes.

Second, talk about amped up tension between the crew members. Who's going to cave first and what are the consequences? Forgiveness? Confessions? There's so much happening!

And then there's the rescue, the politics, revenge.

Putting this book down was HARD!

Absolutely wonderful! Obsessed from the moment I started. The tone of the book is very sci-fi and fast-paced.

In the beginning, I felt a little overwhelmed. There was a lot of information I didn't understand, but there is an index at the back of the book to help guide you. Despite that, I felt that the writing was direct and easy to follow. For me, the vibe of the story, the characters, and the worlds all remind me of Mass Effect.

For me, I did not read the first book. If you read this one first, you would not be too lost. However, I'm definitely going to go back and read the first book and I absolutely cannot wait until the next one. I would definitely read more from this author.
