On a visit to Aunt Lily, Daisy, the duckling, and her brother drive off their playmates with noisy quacking, but when they lose sight of Mama, Daisy must use her loudest voice to call for help.
Jane has tried her hand at landscape gardening, futon making, teaching basket weaving and soft toy making but only truly loves writing and illustrating children's books. Jane shot to fame with the success of her DAISY picture books, all about an irresistible little duck with big feet. More success followed with EBB AND FLO, whose characters were brought to life on television. Jane, her partner, and her menagerie of rescued pets travel the Mediterranean on an ex-fishing boat - and her adventures have provided the inspiration for many of her books. Most recently Jane has turned her hand to fiction, with the exciting adventures of BERYL GOES WILD and SHIP'S CAT DORIS.
I loved the pictures, I loved the story, and I loved the message it gave to the reader, but I didn't like the dark print against the dark backgrounds. It would make it very difficult to read in a storytime setting unless you were very familiar with the story itself. Even reading for myself it was hard to identify some letters.
Still a wonderful book and would like to try and incorperate it into a storytime if possible.
This is a book one of my first graders liked. The little ducks get separated from their adults and have to be brave and use their loud voices to find them. The pictures are vivid and the text is fairly simple.
This is one of our very favorite read alouds! I'm usually hoarse by the end. Zane calls it the "ducky book" and starts saying "Maaa-maa!" when we pick it up.
