Two of my favorite minor characters in the Iron Kingdoms, plus an Indiana Jones-esque adventure complete with gatormen and some tricky to follow action scenes (involving a train, so its ok)! Did i mention there were gatormen in it? One of the few times I can honestly say I was disappointed that a writer chose to underplay the romantic element. Fall in love already damn you! And more gatormen!

Non-stop action and lovingly described combat scenes, voodoo-swinging gators and scoundrels everywhere, this is what an adventure tale should be about! The ending is a bit disappointing, it basically reads as "to be continued" but that's fine. I'm reaffirming my love for the decision to make these books half-length. That leaves out all the padding that the authors usually resort to and makes it a short read leaving me wanting for more.

“De fellas bein’ want put me in de pot too,” the bokor elaborated. “Thinkin’ make de ju-ju stick with my bones.”

This was my first taste of the Skull Island Expeditions line of Iron Kingdoms fiction. Set in the Privateer Press gaming world, it is rather like high-fantasy steampunk on steroids. The line is shaping up nicely. Very action packed. This one was a novella, as are many in the line. A few novels coming out now too. If you want a taste of the IK world, drop by the Privateer press site. Lots to read.

I was excited about the characters going in but ended up disappointed. It felt like the same lackluster proofreader from No Quarter magazine was used here as numerous typos made it into print. There were also a few very obvious situations where Isaw the result coming from a mile away (I will writein more detail when I get to a computer so I can use spoiler tags).

Decent little action adventure. I like the setting and the characters, but the prose could use some work. There are some very awkwardly constructed passages in here that ruin the flow of the story.

Constant action, good simple fantasy adventure. I'm scared to go on steamships and trains now.
