Organized crime. Illegal drugs. Violence. With them comes acceptance, order, purpose–danger. For Leo Haesert, they filled a hole left by a father he never knew and an indifferent mother. Things change, however, and after years in the notorious Alliance of Kasimir, Leo met Jesus and turned himself around–right into the hands of the police.

A bad plea bargain lost him the protection he needed. He’s as off the grid as you can be in today’s society. No phone, all inclusive rent, no other bills, and a driver’s license that still shows his old address. It’s not enough.

They left him for dead once, but the Kasimirs won’t make that mistake again.

“One of Adric’s girls,” Allison Wahl has yet to meet “the one.” She never imagined he might be a man with tattoos on his neck, arms, chest, and back. She certainly never imagined a man with huge holes in his ears and small ones in various places on his face where piercings once held jewelry.

As he begins his community service sentence, he rattles more than just Allison’s emotions.

When The Agency steps in to help, Leo’s life gets more complicated than he ever imagined.

**fingers skittle across the keyboard. Stop. Eyelids blink over the top**

Oh, was this bio day? Oops! I forgot. I was lost in my latest manuscript. Umm... bio. Yeah.

Hi! I’m Chautona Havig. (for those who care, that’s Shuh-TONE-uh HAVE-ig). Yeah. Just work with me here. I should have used a pseudonym, but when you grow up with a name like Chautona, it kind of sticks.

Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful; and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near. ~ Hebrews 10: 23–25

Those aren’t just words on a page for me–they’re why I write. I write to encourage my brothers and sisters in Christ. The stories I create are to make people laugh, cry, question, consider.

They’re for you.

When the world screams for hope, I try to point you to the true Source of hope–Jesus.

Sometimes life in the church no longer seems a refuge from the pain of a self-serving world around us, but through my stories, I try to point you to the only Refuge that can truly help–the Father’s Everlasting Arms.

And sometimes we just need an escape from the monotony, the emptiness we see around us. We need joy, laughter–what I like to call “just the write escape.”

Christian fiction without apology or pretense–lived, not preached.
What does that even mean?
It means I care–about you. About your walk with Jesus. I care about the words you put before your eyes, the mental pictures those words conjure. It’s difficult to express just how much I love my brothers and sisters in Christ. It’s difficult to share just how much I love you.

But I do.

And I write for you. I sit in my little house in California’s Mojave Desert and I write to show you why one sister believes one thing, why a brother believes another. I write to show you how some Christians handle trials or triumphs–for you. So when you’re faced with something–good or bad, it doesn’t matter–maybe it’ll spark a memory. Maybe that memory will smolder until you pull out your Bible and see what the Lord said about it–about His great love for you. For YOU!

And maybe, just maybe, you’ll share that love with another hurting, confused, or blessed-with-more-than-she-knows-what-to-do-with soul.

I just happen to think that’s the most blessed giving anyone could hope to receive.

Okay this is going to be a very brief review:

I hated that Keith is dating (even though he says he isn't) a non-believer. He even kissed her! He was such a man of character in the last book. What happened?

I read this because I wanted to find out what happened to the characters from book #1, they don't even show up until half-way through.

I loved Leo! He was an amazing story of redemption, grace, and second chances.

Why was Allison always along with Leo in his apartment? It bugged me that she spent all that time there with him alone without thinking about how it would look. This is the first series by Havig that I will not be finishing.

Wonderful characters

I loved reading more about the characters from book 1 but also loved seeing some of my favorite characters from other books.

All the characters are amazing and have such good development. Love watching them grow and morph.

Chautona has such a unique style of writing. I can’t get enough of it and definitely recommend her books to everyone. You will not be disappointed.

You get a new look at Alison (one of Adric’s girls) and Adric is in here too. Lots of fun and giggles.

Great message too! Don’t want to say more and give it all away but I’m already starting on book 3!

Such a good book!!

Mismatched by Choutona Havig

Rating: Five Stars!!!!

Language/Profanity: None!

Faith: It is a overlaying theam. The characters are upset because the other christians in their town look down on the main male character because he looks rough. The characters try to point out that (this is not said in the book, but what they are meaning) God is not a respector of persons, He did not co.e to heal the well but the sick....

Romance/Sex: Slowly falling in love. There is a kiss after they marry. Also one of the characters before he go married went out with a different girl each month to try and find the one.

Violence ect.: Not much in the story itself, other than one injury. But there are scars, and talk of past injuries that nearly got the person killed.

Other: Talk of gangs, and the 'good' things you get from it, but it is strongly warned against. There was a movie of vampires...

Part of a Series: Book two in a 5.5 book series.

Synopsis:

Thoughts:
Where do I begin?
One) The characters are absolutely amazing! They seem real, and were very well written. I like Leo's ... naivety is not quite the word I am looking for. He just seems inocente in the things of 'being a christan'. And Allison. She just became friends with the scary man of the town, and didn’t care that everyone else was terrified of him. J
Two) This honestly is what made the story for me. Calvanism (A 'doctorin that I am very very on guard against) was mentioned, and the author, at first it seemed like she didn't want to cause trouble by saing what she believes. But then, talking about the same thing (but not directly) said how there are people who believe they are 'born saved' but that is not what the Bible tells us.
3) The witness protection.
4) Leo was trying to pray more, and it was, at first not easy, but he found later that it had become natural to just talk to God.

An engine that was knocking led her to meet the new guy at the garage, Leo, use to be an outlaw biker. For Leo, all that remains of his old life is a leather jacket he can’t get rid of yet. The tattoos and piercing haunt him, unable to undo those days.
The chief invited him to come to this small town to do his community service. The way he looks with the piercings and tattoos they think he is a bad boy, and no one except Allison wants to befriend him.
To find his mother has died, and to take the rest of the day off, why she threw me out, rejected me, one still grieves for what they wanted and needed in life, especially a mothers love. Surprising to finding he did grieve. It was Allison who found him out running as though to punish himself for these feelings, Demanding he get in the car, and stopping to get food, and too be with him.
A story that is full of emotions, for Leo he can’t erase his past it made him what he is today. Will Allison be there and maybe others in time to except him as a believer in Christ,

fantastic series and book

This is more than a five star read.

An excellent series. It will grip you right at the start and you’ll end up binge reading all 5 books (you’ve been warned!)… but totally worth it !

This is written from multiple POV, there is mystery suspense and action, believable and done just right - not too fast, not too slow, not too much, bit too little. There is beautiful romance and there is faith. Oh the faith element is masterfully done.

This is a series that you want to read in order. Each book is standalone in that it has a satisfying conclusion but there are some threads that carry through the series ending in this book.

Don't believe everything you see...

Not your typical "good girl falls for bad boy" story. By all appearances, Leo fits the "bad boy" description to a T....and until he met Jesus, it was accurate. Between work, the proverbial girl with a heart of gold, and his efforts to A- not break said heart, and B- stay alive, thanks to his former associates, this book will keep you on your toes. I liked it even more the second time around.

Another Excellent Book in the Agency Files series!

There’s SO MUCH to like about this book. The continuity of the core characters, the development of the new ones, the authenticity of the dialogue, the rich dimensions of the characters and the relatable spiritual discussions (withOUT being preachy!) are such assets to the series. Havig keeps delivering fabulous content in a variety of genres! No time to write more - I need to get started on the next book!

Book 2 in the Agency files! This mysterious agency is back again! Most assume it's a branch of the FBI or CIA, but its not...

This is probably my favorite Agency book out of the 3 I've read. I love how it deals with prejudices within the Church. It was also neat to see that although we are forgiven of our past sins, there still remain consequences that we still have to work through.

Good book

It was a little preachy in the beginning but the author knew how to keep it balanced by throwing a little humor. But other than the whole preachy stuff it was a good book. Moving on to book 3, so exciting!!!! And I hope there is a book about Brian, I liked his personality, but I just hope the author don't make his book too preachy either

Once again Chautona delivers!

Once again Chautona delivers! A great book that tells a moving story of redemption, of God's amazing grace! A reminder to look, not on outward appearance, but to what is on the inside! Now , I'm eager for the book number three of The Agency Files! Off to it I go....

Amazing

What an amazing story of God's love and forgiveness that we can all have. Our past sins can be forgiven no matter how awful. To portray this in a motorcycle gang member is an interesting concept. I loved it!

What a great book, it kept me wanting to read more. It was a book that had twists and turns, romance, don't judge a book by it cover person. Very tender and rough characters. It's a book I will reread!

I really enjoy watching Leo grow in his new faith in God. Allison seemed a bit forward, but at the same time I can't judge to much because I was a little bit forward too, though not that much. lol.

Overall, I enjoyed this story a lot.

I do think Keith is playing a dangerous game though, as a believer.

Having just finished the first book in this series, Justified Means, I decided to pick up the 2nd one and continue on reading. Over all it was a good, enjoyable read but to me it wasn't quite as good as the first one. The author has a way of crafting her characters that I really like as it makes their personalities come alive with my favorite in this book being Leo. He was a biker that became a Christian and then turned himself into the police. After his testimony against the biker gang, he was hid in a small town. With his appearance which included piercings, tattoos, ear gauges, the occupants of the town were very nervous and scared around him. The author did a great job using this to show how we judge too quickly and harshly based on appearance alone.

About the time I was getting halfway in the book, I was starting to wonder where The Agency fit into the storyline as they hadn't appeared yet but the last half of the book includes them.

The book had a good conclusion but it seemed a little unfinished to me as there was one particular character that I didn't feel it explained enough about and made me feel something was missing.

Overall I would recommend this book.

Chautona does it again. She finds that tender spot and pokes at it.
So who doesn't take one look at someone and make judgements and assumptions about them?
I don't - honest.
Until Leo walked in with his tattoos and ear holes and piercings. One look at him and you'd want someone else working on your car too. Unless you're Alison.

Redemption is such a beautiful thing. Forgiveness, love, acceptance. Leo has gone from having fame and "family" in a notorious gang, to facing disdain and suspicion in his new community. Yet he does it in humility, accepting that people need time to adjust, time for him to prove himself.
He has been bruised and abused and is now being hunted by his old gang but Alison, Adric and The Agency are determined to protect him.

I have yet to read a book by Chautona in which I wasn't challenged to re-assess my own heart, thoughts and practices.

Intriguing story. Great characters. Fun dialogue. Deep faith. Though provoking.

If you've read any of Chautona's other books you will find old friends pop up here and there.

1. Cool plot twist and loved Leo
2. WHAT'S GOING ON WITH THE REST OF THE AGENCY? Keith, have you gone crazy?
3. Some iffy things, as well as some more mature content (18+).
4. Between 2 and 3, this makes more of a 3.5 rating. But still enjoyed (almost) every moment of it.

(Edit 2023 reread: this one is sooo sweet, too).

I wasn't disappointed in this book either. I liked how the story addressed how you shouldn't judge a person based on their appearance.
