Well, the storyline was somewhat interesting, but the writing itself left something to be desired. There were just a lot of things that bugged me about this book -- number one being the incessant number of details that were crammed into it. For example, you read about the number of cellphones the main character has AND the explanation for why she has two phones at least a dozen times. Yes, we get it. One's a business phone, one is personal. I'm not an idiot.
And why is she so worried about her family finding out what she does for a living? What does she think they will do? Disown her? Doesn't seem very plausible from the information given about the family.
The main character is supposed to be an avid fan of Marie Antionette, yet she gets a lot of facts incorrect.
The main character's love interest takes her golfing (of all things) on their first date so he can show off what a good golfer he is, but he neglects to tell her where they were going so she could actually dress appropriately. Are you telling me any woman would be impressed by that???
I guess none of those things would have bothered me so much if there hadn't been such an over-riding sense of the author behind every sentence. I hate being so aware of the writer that I just can't really get into the book itself. The writing just wasn't natural enough for the author to become hidden and the characters to emerge. It felt pretty forced.
I didn't hate the book, mostly because it had the potential to be a really good read, but it was only just okay.
Despite the fact that this book was literally nothing like what I thought it would be, I really liked it. I had some issues with Jen at times, but the premise was intriguing and overall it was an interesting, quick read.
Some girls dream of being Superwoman. Saving humanity one disaster at a time. Jennifer Hunter is Superwoman, saving women one cheating/lying boyfriend/fiance/husband at a time. Jennifer likes to think of herself as Superwoman using her alias Ashlyn, but I might be more compelled to compare her heroic efforts to The Incredible Hulk. The Hulk gets a really bad wrap, when he is just trying to help out! Even though, these women hire Jennifer to test their husband’s fidelity, I still feel them giving her the “bad guy vibe.”
Jennifer Hunter has been fidelity inspecting for two years. She never suggests anything to the men, she only follows their lead and she does just about everything. She won’t however, go all the way, she only goes as far as intention to cheat only. But for most women that is enough. Like any good super-hero, her family and her friends have no idea what she does and she is very good at keeping it that way. That is until a recent failed fidelity inspection is doing everything he can to reveal her secret identity, he even has a website! Jen really doesn’t want her family to find out and she really doesn’t want her new boyfriend to find out, so she makes the tough decision to retire. But not before she takes on one last job– and it changes everything.
Yet another great debut novel I’ve had the chance to read recently! It was extremely entertaining, the plot kept me on my toes and I loved Jennifer’s character! Jennifer’s character was very complex and well developed. I enjoyed learning the history of her character, and how it played into her fidelity inspector career. Jessica is an awesome writer and I will definitely continue to read her work. I loved the idea of this book! It was fun yet thought provoking at the same time! I’d definitely recommend picking up a copy of this book!
Very interesting. The Fidelity Files are kept by a “fidelity” inspector. The inspector is hired to test the fidelity of husbands, fiancées, and even a future son-in-law. You never learn how much the inspection costs, but the designer wardrobe name dropping lets you know it’s a lot. The inspection is a test to see whether the man will pick up the heroine. No actual sex. Most of the men being tested fail. The story was interesting. Lots of analysis of what cheating is when people are in a relationship.
Jennifer is a fidelity inspector. she stumbled into this job on accident; after being out with coworkers one night playing truth or dare they dared her to go up to this guy at the bar an get him to ask her back to his room. It worked although she declined. It was later the next day when her boss called her into her office to tell her it was all a set up she wanted to see what her husband would do.
After growing up living with the secret that she caught her dad messing around with her college baby sitter while her mom was out of town only to be told as an adult her parents were getting a divorce because he had been unfaithful for awhile she figured this is what she could do to make herself feel better. Save other women from spending time an precious years with someone who cheated.
She had to keep this secret from everyone friends family for 2 years she used a secret name ashlynn and worked on referrals only.
Then she meets this amazing guy on the plane home from one of her assignments. He gives her his business card his name was Jamie Richards. upon another chance meeting he asks her to dinner and she can feel herself falling. by the 3rd date he's asking her to come to paris on a business trip with him. Days before their supposed to leave she gets a call about another assignment. She has made up her mind that this is the last one. Shes gonna tell Jamie everything in paris and retire after this assignment. She has finally found someone to make her believe again. Only upon meeting this lady who has requested her services, she tells Jennifer aka ashlynn, her husband's name is Jamie Richards. Jennifer is shocked she cant believe she missed all the signs her warning signal didn't go off nothing! So she goes through with this assignment. "testing" him for his intent to cheat. But when he turns her down for sex AGAIN and she takes her bath he finds her special card in his purse an it all comes crashing down!.
I won a copy of this book a few months ago and now that I read it I am really glad I got it. It is a bit different then anything else I have read and I really enjoyed it. The author also has a style that I really like, I hope that she writes more books since this is the only one she has out currently. I highly suggest this book if you are looking for something that is kind of female empowering, like chick lit but isn't the chick fail and be saved by a man and life is perfect again chick lit, and is something different.
The story is about a girl Jen who's parents marriage broke up due to infidelity by her father and she has a gift for being able to read men (their interests, if they would cheat, and such understand them). She falls into the job of fidelity inspector with her boss once and ends up moving into a career of fidelity inspecting. Under the code name Ashlyn suspicious wives, fiancees, and girl friends hire her to test their significant others. She runs into them in a bar or somewhere away from home, usually out of the town they live in and after getting their attention Ashlyn lets them lead her until the point where they would cheat. She then lets them know they has been tested and leaves, reporting the results of the test to the person who hired her. Jen works really hard to keep her life and Ashlyn's apart, but they are about to collide. Jen is faced with some decisions, about her personal life, if she wants to continue on with her professional life, and how it all is effecting the ones she loves.
I won a copy of the book that I reviewed, but the summary and thoughts on the book are mine.
I don't really know what genre this book fits in. I suppose under romance, though when I think romance, I think of Tami Hoag (some of her stuff), Jude Deveraux, Judith McNaught, Nora Roberts... Oh, well, this is Jessica Brody's first novel, so we'll see. (And I didn't have a category for "chick-lit" so...)
The premise is interesting. A woman is hired by wives, girlfriends, fiancees, to test their significant other's fidelity. Thus, her profession as a fidelity inspector. I did read about such people in the UK called Honey Trappers. I have to admit, too, I visited the official website and the book trailer was a rather neat idea.
However, the writing stumbles a bit, and is somewhat repetitive. Yes, it makes sense for her to have two separate phones, and that Ashlyn is her persona and she needs to keep Ashlyn separate from Jennifer, but either certain facts are repeated too much or they're stating rather awkwardly and in such a self-aware way.
I did like the twists in the story, especially concerning a vaguely familiar client. I wish I could have known what happened with some of the couples she helped expose. And, that ninth name - I wonder what she did with that after she had help with it.
It was an enjoyable read. I wonder how one hears of such a person, and how rapid word of mouth is...
I enjoyed this book even if I had doubts several times throughout the reading. The plot in itself was well-organized and original, the main idea of fidelity tests was a really good one and the romantic aspect of the story was nice.
However, I found it a bit repetitive at times. First Clayton, then Jamie... I was waiting for the twist with Jamie. I saw it coming nearly as soon as she met him. But at the same time, it was a clever choice to "marry" him despite the lack of surprise, because who loves a character without flaws?
My main reservation aubout this book is the character of Jennifer herself. To my mind, she should have told her mother the truth. The way it is, it gives us the impression that she has evolved as a person only to come back to who she was in the beginning minus her lack of love life. This is emphasized by the ending. She didn't give up her secret job, she now has a compagny... I really think that this epilogue brings more questions than closure...
But all in all, the book was good. Quickly read and funny. Just what you want to read when you're not looking for something serious.

This was an excellent book. I thoroughly enjoyed it and really felt for the main character. The basis of the book was intriguing to me, and I felt as though the way it was written stayed true to the main premise. While occasionally, the author repeated certain details which was completely unnecessary, it wasn't enough to become irritating. Overall, I think this is one of the better books I have read in awhile and would highly recommend it.
This is the greatest book ever! It's 420 pages and I whipped through it in 4 days. It's so good! I highly recommend it and I'm not just saying this because the author is a good friend of mine :)! This book is going to be a huge success!
Excellent read. Asks the question of what would you do if you could find out if your husband, boyfriend, or fiance would cheat on you. How would you use this information? Can a woman who does this for a living ever find love? For the answers to these questions and more, read this book.
This was probably one of the best books I've read all year. It's very well written, I hope the next book by Jessica has just as much spunk and flair!!!!!
Yaaaasss!!!! I loved this book!!!! Jessica Brody I’m your newest fan!! I even searched the Internet for part two of this series and it’s being shipped to my door step. Your writing style is fantastic. I had my daughter reading this to me on the road because I couldn’t find an audio. I couldn’t wait to read as soon as I got home from work, in the car on my lunch break.. I mean I wish every book did this to me! Thank you Jessica for beautifying our world with your talent!
Jennifer (Ashlyn pour les client(e)s) travaille comme testeuse de fidélité. Contre rémunération elle testera votre mari, votre fiancé, votre gendre,.... Un livre sympa avec pas mal de rebondissements (même si certains sont prévisibles).
UPDATE: I decided to re-read this book in advance of reading the follow up. I found myself having the same issues with book that I did the first time, though I think perhaps the tone below is a little too harsh. I didn't re-read my review first, but having done so now the criticisms are spot on, even though if I were to express them today I might use a less hostile tone.
I started out really enjoying this. I think part of the problem is that it was too long. But the biggest problem was that the main character gets less and less likeable as the book goes on. Not to mention that the whole idea of a "fidelity inspector" is morally questionable, at best. And the idea put forth in this book that it isn't really cheating unless there's penetration is just plain stupid. I mean, she's on a freaking romantic getaway in Paris with a man she believes to be married, but he passes her fidelity inspection because he doesn't stick his cock in her? LUDICROUS.
And yes, I know that he wasn't even really cheating at all because he was separated. If I were him, I would sue whatever genius lawyer wrote his prenup, which says that even though he's legally separated and in the process of divorcing his wife, he can't stick his cock in anyone until the divorce is final because that would make him just as "guilty" of infidelity as his wife, who cheated on him while they were in therapy trying to save their marriage. Sorry, but it just doesn't work that way.
Would have given this one star, except for Hawthorne Agency. Seriously, that was clever and made me laugh so I bumped it up to two. Oh, and because I like to know what happens next even when I hate something, I'll probably read the follow up book. Maybe it will be better. It's hard to imagine it being much worse.

I've been dying to read this book for what seems like forever. Since, for one, it has an amazing book trailer, one of the best ever, and for two it has an interesting premise. So, when I got the chance to read it on my past vacation, I was so excited. And as it turns out, I had every right to be excited. Since, The Fidelity Files is one awesome debut book!
In The Fidelity Files you get a glimpse into the complicated world of Jennifer Hunter (code name: Ashlyn). You see, Jennifer is a secret "fidelity inspector", a person who tests the faithfulness of men all around, acting as a "superwoman" for desperate wives and girlfriends. Jen was definitely one of my favorite female protagonists ever because I loved her for what she did. Since, this issue of cheating sadly hits close to home for me. Plus, she was a girl that any woman or teen girl could identify with because she has issues from her childhood that were never quite resolved and has hard time letting her true self be exposed at times.
Adding to the awesome main character, the plot was also intense and provided for several twists and turns you didn't see coming. Also, I enjoyed how it has a light side too it because of funny secondary characters.
Lastly, Jennifer's writing was pretty good and it seems that it will only get better as time goes on.
Overall, The Fidelity Files is definitely a book filled with awesomeness, I truly look forward to reading Love Under Cover and lucky for me I have an ARC of it.
I must say that I was a little worried coming into this novel as I had started it years ago and I got maybe 60 pages in and gave up on it, but now being older and more mature I must say that I absolutely loved it. This story follows the life of fidelity investigator Jennifer Hunter on her quest to uncover and expose cheating husbands to their wives and give the wives the information that she had been unable to give her own mother. Although this novel had some very characteristics "Chick Lit" events and themes, this novel was truly defined and different. The main character that is presented is not only determined, strong and self confident but she was at times vulnerable and confused and she carried the scars from her past to the degree that they determined her future and the way in which she carried out relationships. This is one of the most realistic novels about modern women that I have ever read and it is quite refreshing to have a main character where the readers are not always sure if they agree with her career choice and her motives in carrying out this crusade. The only real problem that I had with this novel is the part at the end in which Marta was revealed to have set up certain events in Jennifer's life as it seems just a bit to "neat and tidy" to fit with the rest of the novel. Overall however an amazing, thought provoking and accurate first novel by Jessica Brody and I look forward to reading more of her books in the near future.

I really enjoyed this book, as I knew I probably would. The subject was so unique, and I knew there was so much the author could do with it.
It's about a woman who, as a child, saw her father cheat on her mother. After never being able to forgive him AND keeping his secret, she has a very judgmental outlook on men. So, to combat their cheating tendencies, she starts her own business: as a fidelity inspector. She is hired by women (usually very well-off women) to test their husbands for the intention to cheat. She never goes all the way, but goes far enough to not doubt they would've slept with her had she not stopped it.
I won't get into any major storylines, as there are lots of twists and surprises I don't want to ruin. But some of the them, I actually DIDN'T see coming :)
Oh, how I wish fidelity inspectors were real. It'd make life so much less stressful. And hey, if guys don't think it's fair, I'd be happy to be subjected to a fidelity test ANYTIME :) Just to keep things on level playing ground ;)
I really like this story, but it leaves you with an unpleasant taste in your mouth at the same time. You've got a woman, who is hired by distressed housewives/girlfriends, to see if their spouse is cheating on them. She doesn't have sex with them, but it leads there and if they have the go ahead, then she knows that they are cheating. The one thing I never understood was how the wive's involvement was kept a secret. Her little black card that she leaves pretty much tells the man that his wife/girlfriend doesn't trust him and that opens a whole new can of worms. Because what if they were wrong? What if the man is not cheating? That never gets brought up at all. Her distrust in men really does stem from her father's betrayal and then when she finally finds 'happiness', she destroys it pretty much by not letting her man explain and decides to run her 'test' on him without him knowing. Talk about betrayal...all in all it was a good read, but it still is a messed up story.
I know 1 star is harsh for a book I didn't finish, but from what I read (about 30 percent) it was 1 star quality. I could not for the life of me connect to this heroine. I truly tried, I did, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't me and the way she was written. The dialogue felt so unbelievably forced and didn't flow well. Another review said she feared for this woman's safety during these "inspections" and I had that same thought. It wasn't believable that while you're about to destroy this man's life, and you are admitting it right there to him while all alone, that he would sit there like a docile creature and accept this. Yea. Nope. I'm sure at some point she would encounter rage. Unspeakable rage. But whatever. It doesn't matter because the writing didn't do it for in the slightest. Next!
This book really makes you think. You know....not all guys are scumbags. BUT, the thought of a woman going out to uncover these jerks is kinda cool. Even if it became a big business....wouldn't the thought always be in the back of someone's mind and if they were tempted to cheat, they might think twice? I think so.....
Good book. I really liked it and I read it in 2 days. I couldn't put it down. :)
I really enjoyed this book. Jennifer quits her job in banking/finance and becomes a fidelity inspector, getting paid by women to see if their significant other has "unfaithful tendencies." She keeps her job a secret from her family and friends but eventually it comes out.
She also has to deal with WHY she would want to pursue this particular line of work and her own dating life (or lack there of).
A few surprises and twists made it a fun read.

I couldn't put this book down. Author Jessica Brody does an amazing job writing as the book is so well-written that I felt I was in Jennifer's mind and could understand why she was sacrificing living her own life to help others. The Fidelity Files was highly entertaining and full of unexpected twists and turns that it had my full attention and I couldn't wait to see what would happen next. This book is nothing like I've ever read before and is chick-lit at its finest! I recommend it! :)
Excellent read! I can't believe I finished it in 1 day. Very interesting and some parts preditable a little, but still hard for me to quit reading!
"If you can't drink it and still manage to stay faithful to your wife at home, then you either shouldn't be drinking it or you shouldn't have a wide at home." love it!
Can't wait for the next book to arrive. I ordered all Jessica's book in one time and want to read them in order of the way she wrote them, so need to wait for the mail haha!
