3.5- 4 Sweeeeeet Stars!

This is exactly what this book was- soo very sweeet!

Nicole is empty... Why? Because she lost everything in her life that mattered to her.
Her husband- the love of her life Mark
Her Son- The light of her life- Andrew

After her husband and son meet up in an accident and die Nicole is so very alone.

Its been one year, three months, one week and six days since the accident and Nicole is ready to stop counting the says she's survived and begin living again...

On her first night out with her best friend, she is brought back to the past in the bar, the place she had so many wonderful memories with her husband Mark.

Deciding to move on, her friend dares her to talk and flirt with two guys across the bar....

and that's where she meets Zack Walters...

Zack is a famous Rock star who Nicole doesn't even know. He is taken shocked that for the first time in a long time someone does not recognise him.
This fascinates him and they invite them to go where they rehearse.

Before we can even blink an eye Zack is captivated by Nicole.

They spend time together, she goes to his concert and she is invited to go on tour with him.

"It’s taken one year, three months, two weeks and days but my sparkle has returned."

Besides being beautiful, Nicole has sadness in her eyes.. And pain in her heart.

Zack wants to know all about her and her pain and she tells him about her loss. He still wants to be with her..

"I’m standing here next to the man I love, who I don’t know how to be with, introducing him to the man I first loved and don’t know how to say good-bye to."

The whole sweet sweet love thing kind of put me off and I got bored at times real quick...

He says she loves him for him but not because she's a rock star but the thing is.. Yes when they met she didn't know him but 10mins later she did know who he was.

Things are too perfect- meet a rock star, he falls for the no name girl- they fall in love, he finds out she is also musically talented (ironically)

The only part which particularly exciting was when his jealous biach ex girlfriend goes desperate for Zack.

Nicole fights for her man, faces her fears, opens her heart and all her dreams come true...

Some parts were real cheesy but an overall sweet read.
I think I am so accustomed to these heart breaking books that these kind of books seem that way.

If you are looking for a sweet sweeet book this is it and has an awesome HEA!

Sweet, sexy and low angst romance about a h who had suffered a loss and laidback rockstar H? I was pleasantly surprised how the book dealt with a tragic situation or the paparazzi-sensational happenings in a classy, non-exploitative way, leaving the excessive drama out of it. Enjoyable read!

Nicole stopped living after something tragically happened with her family. She stopped enjoying music. She never expected to meet the famous singer, Zack, the day she decided to finally move on and enjoy life again. Nicole has two amazing days with Zack when Zack needs to leave to continue his tour. Zack doesn’t want to say goodbye to Nicole and asks her to join him to make pictures of the tour. Nicole accepts his offer and she has a great time on tour. She and Zack grow closer and fall in love.

I like Nicole and Zack a lot! Nicole is a talented photographer and piano player. She’s strong, passionate, shy and kind. She has doubts and insecurities, but Zack waits until she’s ready and he doesn’t let her go without a fight. Zack loves to make music and perform his music. Zack has never met a woman like Nicole who doesn’t care about his money nor fame. It’s refreshing for him. He’s attracted to her and loves to talk to her.

I love the tour setting and I always hope to read about it in a rock star romance. Zack and his band are touring. I read about them performing and making music. I also loved the secondary characters. Mia is the best friend Nicole needs. Mia comforted her and she pushes her when the time is right. Zack has some amazing band members who are also his friends. He has an amazing time with them on tour. They accept Nicole and they are nice to her. I hope to read Just One Week soon!

This was a really sweet story. It's low on angst, and has a hero and heroine that you want to root for. There is a lot to love. I enjoyed watching Nicole come back to life after such a huge loss, and there is no doubt that Zack was the perfect hero.

There were a few minor things that kept this, for me, from being a four or five star read.

Some of this is spoiler-ish, so proceed with caution.

- Zack was a little too perfect. Seriously, he never does or says anything but the absolute best thing in any situation. There is a conflict that comes up near the end of the books where you are supposed to perhaps question if Zack did the right thing - and it just doesn't fly - because he is 100% perfect 100% of the time.

-Zack loves that Nicole loves him even though she didn't recognize him as a rock star. I get where this would have a big appeal, but honestly she only doesn't know who he is for the first five minutes, so I'm not really sure this applies.

-He asks her to go on tour with them after knowing her a few hours (spread
Over two days) and she goes. I'm glad they didn't break out the "I love you's" but this still seemed crazy quick.

- they have a problem with their keyboardist - and it just so happens she's classically trained and capable of playing by ear (just a tad too much of a coincidence for me)

Overall, it's a very sweet love story. If your looking for something uncomplicated and "feel good" this might be your book.

I have nothing to say. Actually I do: predictable, boring and the plot being a grieving mother/wife there was zero emotion here. I felt only annoyance when she talked or remembered the deceased ones. Besides her inability to speak, think of words to say or not being able to form a coherent thought. Dumb and dumber.

🎧 Audiobook Review 🎧

It was a sweet story about a broken girl who had lost her whole world, just to find a new one in the arms of a tamed and patient rockstar.

Considering how lost Nicole was, it was understandable her fear of moving on with her life, when her husband and son's life would be forever paused in time.

Zach's understanding, love and patience with her was really sweet, even if it was also completely unimaginable to a "rock God" acting like that, and to be instant dating a widow like they were in a teenager rom-com movie, when they're already saying I love yous and sleeping on the same bed, but without any sexual interaction other then little kisses here and there.
I really didn't expect that and it bored me too much along the story.

It was a slow burn with a little ex-girlfriend drama and lots of moving on talking.

🎧 About the Audiobook Narration 🎧

Narrated by Meghan Kelly and Neil Thorne.
Their narration was incredible and really well done! Both voices soothing and really beautiful to hear. Great interpretation.

BUT... The audiobook have multiples issues like really long pauses between chapters and lots of repetitive sentences, so it needs to be checked stat, cause it's really annoying.

When I started this free read it seemed promising but then it just peters out and drags and becomes predictable (it's so obvious she'll become the keyboard player).

The emotional impact that Nicole's history is supposed to generate fell flat for me. There wasn't enough background about how happy and in love she had been and whilst we read a little of her husband, the son wasn't mentioned much or how upset she as a mother was to lose her son.

As for Zack he was just far too nice and understanding. Nothing like a bad boy rock star. The little hiccup in their romance came too early in the novel and so once that was resolved I was bored until another predictable thing happened.

There is very little sex in this story. It's more a sweet love story about healing and moving on but it fell short for me.

Rating 4.25 stars.

I read Just One Song and Just One Week in the same day. For me, Just One Song was definitely the better read of the two. All of the characters were nicely developed and more than one dimensional. I don't believe that the band members were your typical lot of rock stars. Yes, they partied and slept around but there was so much more to them than that and once they found their forever girl the sexcapades abruptly ended. Now, does this represent any rock stars of today? I really don't know but these guys, all but one, were really good, kind, loving and caring people. I was drawn to them in a big way. They were not only a band, they were family, brothers if you will. So is this worth the read...YES most definitely.

Nicole Parsons had, what she considered, the perfect life. A wonderful, loving husband and a precious four-year-old son. But, one evening the loves of her life were brutally taken from her and this story is about her horrific grief and the man who gave her life again along with a best friend, Mia, who stuck by her through thick and thin. A sister of her heart.

One evening at a bar that her friend drug her to, Nic meets the hottie rock star, Zack Walters, on a dare from Mia. Nicole hasn't a clue who he is and Zach is immediately drawn to her. He is so used to people trying to get to know him because they want something from him and it is a pleasant relief to meet someone who has no idea he is a rock god.

This is a wonderful story of healing, second chances and a love so deep it almost hurts.

I absolutely and completely recommend this book!

OMG! Finally a book where the guy doesn't sleep around and the girl isn't a whinger!!
I absolutely adore zack and Nicole.
Nicole's story is heart wrenching! What she goes through is devastating. But she is such a strong character and doesn't bitch and moan.
Zach.. Oh Zach!! What a beautiful man!! It was such a relief to read about a guy who is so in love with someone that it prevents him from doing stupid things.
This book was well written too and the supporting characters fantastic.
A MUST READ

Nicole is 26 years old, living in an apartment in Minnesota and has a successful photography business. Her best friend Mia has been working on bringing Nicole back into the dating world and is shocked when she finally agrees to visit an old favorite bar that they used to frequent.

Mia dares Nicole to flirt with two guys sitting quietly in a corner of the bar. This is the last thing that Nicole wants to do but she also rarely turns down a dare issued by Mia and with the prize being a new pair of shoes if she goes through with it, how could she refuse?

Nicole’s attempt at flirting doesn’t quite go as planned so she decides honesty might be the better option. However, she had no idea that the two guys she was talking to are from the hottest rock band on the planet. She has been out of the music loop for a couple of years and doesn’t recognise them at all. It takes Mia to figure it out for her.

Zach Walters is used to females trying to get his attention and to be fair he has indulged in plenty of them over the last few years. After initially thinking that Nicole was hitting on him because she knew who he was, he is surprised to find out she has no idea who he is. It’s so refreshing to talk to someone who just genuinely wants to chat and get to know him.

There is something about this girl that has him wanting to spend more time with her so he invites them to spend some time with him and his band. Nicole is reluctant but knowing how crazy mad Mia is about the band she goes along for the ride. This turns out to be a life changing decision she did not see coming.

Zack is completely taken with Nicole, there is an undeniable connection that they both feel and it’s not something Zack has every experienced before. All he knows is that he cannot let her walk away without exploring where this could go. Nicole battles with what she is feeling for Zack and not letting go of the memories of her past.

When Nicole confides in Zack about her past and her hesitation to move forward with him he is so incredibly patient and understanding with her. Honestly, it’s like these two were made for each other. I’m so glad that he never gave up on Nicole. What a wonderful discovery this was in my unread collection :) This story gave me all those wonderful book feels that I love!

Initially I made up my mind this would be a4 star read mainly because it was a love at first sight thing and although I am a hopeless romantic I don't do love at first sight but toward the end I changed because it was just to frigging sweet. I loved all of the characters especially Zack and Nicole, who are the main ones but Nicole's friend Mia was awesome as well.
A story of love lost, grief, letting to of the past, finding yourself and finding happiness.

Nicole lost so much already and along with that she feels her heart is lost to. She struggles everyday to find the spark in her life that she once had before her life was tragically turned inside out. She goes through the motions with her friend Mia but finally decides to start living again but although the words come from her mouth it's easier said than done. She struggles to move on from the past.

Zach Walters. Yum!!!!
Yum gif photo: Yum yum.gif
Zach is of course a hit and famous rock star. He just wants to find someone that will love him for his true self, not for his money, status or what he can do for them. Little does he know the one night he is in a bar he will meet the one woman who has no idea who he is, doesn't even know he is a famous rock star . Mia sends Nicole on a dare knowing she won't back down and this is we're two people's lives will change forever.

Zach came into Nicole's life when she thought her life was over and she was accepting the fact that she would constantly live in the past never finding happiness again. But zach is about to show her that you don't get to fall in love only once in a lifetime.
I loved watching the story unfold. I cried, laughed, my heart did the little flutter thing and sometimes I felt it lodged in my throat.
I so wanted Nicole to grab Rachel and....

Stories like this one is nothing new if you're an avid New Adult reader like myself, you'll get the idea of a very weak heroine being saved by a strong (mostly handsome, rock star guys) guy that would make her happy and they'll live happily ever after fighting all their battles. Just One Song never did fall out from that line though - it was familiar yet something about it would make you stick with it through the end.

When I read, its so usual for me to get first impressions as I start and further ones as I go along with my reading but I guess this is the first time that I get a chance to subdivide my thoughts into three equal impressions or stages:

First Impression:
Wow! The cover is gorgeous! It reminds me of that certain time that I get a chance to visit Seoul. The book description looks so promising. This is going to be Exciting!

First Half of Reading:
Sympathy. That's the most potent feeling that I get as I get to know Nicole. The sudden turn of events that life brought to her was so devastating. People see her as the ‘26 year old widow and a parent of a dead child.'. Her loneliness and sadness as a character was as potent as I first met her. She feel like she's being tossed back and forth between wanting to have her old life back, wanting to move on, wanting to be happy again and wanting to hold on to everything she used to have even though its not possible anymore.

Then she met rock star Zack Walters (how could authors come up with names that are so hot and very rocker-ish?!) He saw something with Nicole and that certain thing pushed him to spend time and get to know her and with that he became her personal calm above all the nightmare she experience.

I enjoyed the easiness of their relationship. The little glances, visits and struggles they both have. I know they indeed fall in love here.

PAUSE.
This is where some of my doubts surfaced.

How convenient would it be that the keyboardist of Zack's band is a little drug-addict who spends his time hitting the stones rather than practicing with the band THEN suddenly we get to know that Nicole did know how to play the keyboard brilliantly that she can play it by ear? How convenient is that? Hmm.

Last Half Of Reading:
Nicole finally had her goodbye with Andrew and Mark and accepted that she could finally live her own life once again. I'm genuinely happy about this scenario in fact its one of my favorite but the next parts that comes is what makes me pave off. The last half of the story reminds me a LOT of scenes from other books that I've read.

The story of Nicole was indeed powerful. That is the main thing that holds this story. It’s that very idea that makes it different from the other – If only the story did give us a chance to know Drew and Mark even though it would be heartbreaking could’ve been great.

When things seemed to settle, I know something would still come up. Something drastic and I’m not mistaken about it! But honestly, that little spin off was sorry to say, so off for me.

As I have said to my other reviews, New Adult stories nowadays doesn’t really go way too different from the other ones but its in the way the story was presented that we readers get to see the difference but with Just One Song I fail to see the something different from it that makes its story totally stand out from the other. But as I’ve said, I really admire Nicole’s very original story.

In all, Just One Song is still an okay read. A heartbreaking story affected by the past and conquered by the present. I do appreciate the author's brilliant writing, it was easy to dive into the world created, but maybe it’s just too familiar for me.

5 star it's just not enough for this story. I fell in love with Zack and Nicole. It was a beautiful heartbreking book.

5/5****

This story was so awesome. It is the perfect love story with heartbreak thrown in before during and after. It is hard to put down. Tragedy struck Nicole and she is shattered. She needs to live again and her best friend and her go to dinner. She accepts a bet to get a guy to buy her a drink. From there the love story grows as Nicole doesn't recognize Zack who is a rock star. Zack has never met someone who doesn't use him for his status. It is impossible not to fall in love with Zack or Nicole. I was able to beta read this and I highly recommend it as a TBR.

Really enjoyed this book. I really liked the main character, Nicole. She suffered a terrible loss when her husband and son died but she was really strong and worked on moving on in her life and finding love again. I also loved Zack. Who doesn't love a sexy rock star? Nicole's best friend Mia is awesome and I'm so glad book 2 is about her and Chase!

4.5 stars

Just One Song is Stacey Lynn's debut novel and she did an amazing job. Just One Song is a love story about grief and loss, and the guilt and fear of moving on from that loss.

Nicole Parsons had the perfect life, but unfortunately tragedy struck and took it all away from her. It is now one year, 3 months and 1 week later and Nicole still feels numb inside. For the past 15 months she has been going through the motions of everyday life trying to survive, but has not felt "alive" since that tragic day. Nicole is tired of looking at herself in the mirror and seeing that sad, lifeless woman in front of her. She wants to move on, she wants to be that happy girl that she used to be, one who loved life and music. Without even thinking she gets herself dressed and ready for a night out with her best friend Mia. Nicole tells Mia that she has finally decided that maybe it is time to move on and maybe even go on a date. So Mia decides to challenge her in a way that Mia knows she will not refuse. Mia dares her to find a guy at the bar and to get his phone number. Nicole, not one to turn down a dare, accepts the challenge and finds herself talking to Zack Walters, a hot and sexy rock star. But since Nicole has spent most of the last year isolated from the outside world she has no idea who he is and no clue that the dare she just accepted will change her life forever.

"You are the most beautiful, down-to-earth, funny, smart and kind woman I have ever had the privilege of knowing."

Zack is hot and sexy and looking for the one woman who will love him for who he is and not what he does. He has lived the rock star life and has been burned in the process. He wants more and what he wants is Nicole Parsons. Zack loved that Nicole was interested in him before she knew who he was, and even after finding out she didn't seem all that impressed with his rock star status. Zack wants Nicole, but he also sees the sadness in her eyes and knows that Nicole is nothing like the girls he has been with in the past. She is the kind of girl you want to spend your life with and he knows that he wants a future with her. She opens up to him about the tragic incident that took her family and as much as Zack wants Nicole, he knows that he needs to be patient with her. He makes her an offer to come on the road with his band to photograph them while on tour. But the real reason behind this offer is Zack wanting to spend as much time with Nicole as he can and to get to know her better.

"We are only just getting to know each other, but in the short time we have, there has never been a moment where I have not been impressed by you. I know you've been through a whole lot over the last year and if all you can give me right now is friendship, I'll gladly take it."

I loved Nicole and Zack together. Zack is sexy, sweet, romantic and very patient with Nicole. He finds himself falling for her a lot quicker than he imagined, but what I love about their story is that despite the "love at first sight" feeling, their romance is not rushed. Zack is amazing and patient with Nicole and sensitive to her feelings and her fears. Nicole starts having feelings for Zack as well, deep feelings that she has never had for a man before and that terrifies her. She fears moving on will cause her to forget her past, and she feels guilty for being happy. Zack came into Nicole's life and made her feel alive again. It was as if he helped her find herself again; find that happy woman she once was. But the feelings that she starts having for Zack scare her and is will ultimately cause their relationship to take a turn in the wrong direction. When things between Nicole and Zack begin to get serious, Nicole finds herself in the spotlight on Zack's arm, and she starts to panic and being with Zack suddenly becomes too much for her to handle. Will Nicole be able to get over her fears and her guilt and move on? She has been through a lot of pain in the past 15 months and deserves the happiness and love that Zack wants to give her, but she needs to convince herself of that first.

"I shake my head and say nothing. This isn't the night for sex; I just have the strangest and crazy urge to hold her all night and keep her safe and erase the tears from her eyes. She's had enough to cry about."

Just One Song is a beautiful love story about letting go of the guilt of losing someone and being able to move on and find happiness again. It is also about forgiveness and how forgiving someone can help you move on. I loved watching Zack and Nicole's love for each other unfold. It was an emotional ride that will make you both laugh and cry. There is one particular scene where Nicole introduces Zack to two very special people that will both melt your heart and break it all at the same time, it was a sweet moment between the two of them that will make you cry. Overall I absolutely loved this story. Stacey Lynn has done a wonderful job telling Nicole and Zack's story. You will fall in love with these two and root for Nicole to find her happily ever after that she deserves. I also loved the addition of Mia, Nicole's best friend who has always stood by her in so many ways. Their friendship was so true and so real. This is definitely a must read!

Young widow, who lost her son and husband in an accident, goes out with a friend and meets a rockstar because of her friends dare. She doesn't recognise him until he tells her his name and her friend comes over. The have a nice evening and the rockstar invites them to their concert. He is very attracted to her.

The story has this sad parts and the more we get to know the backstory about the accident, the more we understand, why she doesn't want to be in the spotlight.

We surly get our happy ending...

Sweet love story - No great angst or drama

This was one of those reads that’s just almost too sweet. It works though.

The pros:
* This was a complete story - no cliffhangers
* No unnecessary drama (no cheating, scandals, backstabbing, etc)
* The hero in this read was quite charming
* I liked how the heroine faced adversity and dark times but got a second chance at love
* I nice read where you get your HEA
* This was listed as a freebie on Amazon at my time of purchase. That’s a gesture very much appreciated! This read was worth paying for, but I was quite pleased with it being graciously offered as a freebie.

The cons:
* It was pretty unrealistic - rock god meets mourning widow - the fall in love - all is perfect etc.
* Easily predictable
* I found myself tiring of the constant, "I love you", "I love you", "I love yous"
* This read definitely had the insta-love thing going on. I wanted more foundation in their relationship.
* I was left feeling like I didn’t know a lot about the characters. They weren’t one dimensional by any means, but they definitely had room for some more character depth
* The plot was pretty simple - there seemed to be no real obstacles to overcome - at times it felt almost too easy
* The sex was rather PG-13 - I tend to prefer a little more detail and passion
* The last 10-15% of book was so lame and overly cliché. And all her crying that last chapter. It wore me out.

I'm glad I read this book. Even though I didn’t feel that it had a lot of complexity it made for a nice, easy, light hearted read. Perfect for a lazy day beach read if you are looking for something not filled with excessive anguish and torment.
