Assassin Deception

I spend as much time as I can get away with looking for rocks in Bancroft. When I'm not in Bancroft I live in a small town, so people know me when they see me. Some ask me what I'm working on--some even ask me in a regular voice not a whisper.
I get bored easily, it's why one day I'll be working on assassins, the next Sci-fi, then Vikings, then vampires, then planning world domination--wait, what?
Moving on. I love animals and we have a dog, 120p mastiff. He's great with the kids and careful around them, but he'd run me over for a piece of bologna. Otherwise he loves us.

Ce livre signe la conclusion de la saga Assassin qui est devenu plus passionnante à chaque tome. On termine par l’histoire du chaud lapin Damien qui est en réalité raide dingue de son amie d’enfance, la femme de sa vie. Il est assez contradictoire de le voir dire qu’il n’y a qu’elle qui compte à ses yeux alors qu’il couche à droite et à gauche… enfin bref, lorsque Chloe revient aux bercailles, il voir là sa chance de la garder à ses côtés à jamais ou bien de définitivement tourner la page. Bien entendu, rien ne va se passer comme prévu dans ce monde de fous et de tueurs.
Chloe est une protagoniste différente des autres rencontrées jusqu’à présent. Elle sait dans quoi elle s’empêtre, elle sait qu’ils sont des assassins, elle a grandit parmi eux et est même la fille de l’un des leurs. Elle cherche à se venger de ceux qui lui ont tout prit, mais ils sont aussi la seule famille qu’elle n’ait jamais connu. C’est une femme sérieuse, têtue, courageuse et très maligne. C’est probablement le personnage le plus complexe de la série, elle est tout en nuances et contradictions. Amour et haine, confiance et suspicion, vengeance et pardon.
Mais d’une certaine façon, Damien est parfaitement fait pour elle. Malgré une réputation de gigolo qui court du lit d’une femme à une autre, il n’a jamais aimé que Chloe. Elle est la femme de sa vie, pour elle il est prêt à tout, même à prendre des responsabilités qui l’effraient. Cependant, leur relation va devoir faire face à bien des obstacles. Même Damien doute de temps à autre, ne sachant plus quoi faire pour celle qu’il aime. Il reste quelqu’un de passionné, mais aussi sérieux et concentré quand le besoin s’en fait ressentir.
La romance difficile qu’il existe entre Chloe et Damien existe depuis bien des années. Ils s’aiment, mais n’arrivent pas à se mettre en couple à cause de doutes, de peur de stabilité et autre bêtise. Ils s’entendent parfaitement, le sexe entre eux est tout simplement bouillant, mais ils ont bien du mal à passer le pas. Cependant, leur amour n’est pas le seul important ici, il y a aussi le thème de la famille, car pour James et Dirk, Chloe fait irrémédiablement partie de la famille. Amour fraternel et filial est vraiment mis à mal et bien des souffrances sont en perspective avec les secrets qu’il existe.
C. L. Scholey s’est vraiment surpassé pour cette conclusion, en partant d’un fait simple et un couple qui semblait destiné, pour au final nous servir un romantic suspens pur jus avec de la trahison, des révélations et de la souffrance. On ne se repose pas un instant, il ne cesse d’y avoir des remises en question, des doutes sur tout et il y a plusieurs intrigues qui s’entremêlent pour avoir une seule conclusion finale. J’ai beaucoup aimé ce couple qui a évolué alors qu’ils se connaissaient déjà bien. Un bon dernier tome qui ne nous laisse pas sur notre faim et c’est tout aussi bien !

This story was like watching a badly-acted, badly-written soap opera, and I hate soap operas at the best of times. The author keeps trying to make these guys out to be noble saintly assassins, even as they continually behave like assholes at random moments. The heroine is drugged without her consent a couple of times, and has been repeatedly lied to, throughout her life.
I think the problem is, the premise of noble assassins was shaky to begin with, so nothing was ever going to make it work.
