There are so many books out there and so many authors, it is hard to wade through all the paranormal stories and find one that is not the same ole, same ole. What a wonderful treat to read J.E. Taylor’s newest release, Night Hawk.

We meet Naomi Hawk in a precarious position, making a decision on whether to let a demon take her to Lucifer or jump out off an eighty foot ledge. Not a good day huh? Through these conversations we learn her boyfriend of two years has sold her out, literally, body and soul to Lucifer. Yeah right, Lucifer the bad, who wants to drain her for her life force. She is told she is a ‘child of the light’ what the heck is that???

Child of the Light or not, Naomi is one strong minded girl who wants to be in control of her own destiny; she decides to jump. As she plummets towards the ground she feels herself being grabbed and is rescued by one angry vampire. Or is she rescued? Her angry savior is Damian, one hot sexy thing, who also wants her death. Surprising him, Naomi turns the tables on him and we have the beginning of a fun fast paced story.

I had no idea Night Hawk would be a vampire story, but yet again an author has turned the tables on me and given me a fast paced story filled with Vampires, Demons, and Archangel Michael thrown in for fear and some comedic moments who I pictured as John Travolta (who starred in the movie of the same name many years ago)

I love the way authors are now alternating POV of some characters by chapter. Ms. Taylor has the ability to do this well and this story alternating between Damian and Naomi is done just right.

I hate to give away any of the storyline, but I will tell you the two characters are written as a yin and yang. Since Damian is very old, he had the calmness of weighing all sides of the issue without jumping into the fray. He has a had huge expectations placed on him by Michael and is trying to honor them. Naomi as I mentioned is the polar opposite and doesn’t think just reacts. The relationship that forms between them shows great chemistry. Although Damian is a vampire, and old in age, he is so tolerant of Naomi and they actually learn from each other. He is such a different kind of vampire.

Wow, where do I begin with the other cameos that appear in this story, which certainly could be fleshed out in another book. Loved Valarie, and of course Michael. The world that JE Taylor opens here is a bit different and one I wouldn’t mind to delve more into in a future story.

As I mentioned the short novel was fast paced for a few hour read., and kept my full attention. I will say though that if there were to be a second story from this world I would surely look forward to read it.

Have you ever experienced a bad break up? Do you remember what it was over? Did the guy try to “get even” with you? Trust me, your worst nightmare can’t compare with what Naomi Hawk’s ex did to her. Mark sold Naomi out, body and soul to Lucifer, yep, THE Lucifer, demon extraordinaire. Why? Because Naomi is special, she is a Child of the Light, a rare and potent commodity in the demon world. After the big attack and chase scene, Naomi finds she is plummeting down a mazillion stories to her death, better than becoming a snack for the devil, right? Swoosh, a dark angel swoops down and saves her at the last second, but wait, he’s not a dark angel, he’s a very old vampire, a very hot and sexy and young looking very old vampire. Damian is also her guardian, watching over her bloodline, keeping her ancestors safe from Lucifer. But he succumbs to temptation and takes just one little bite, terrified, defenseless and ticked, Naomi bites him back….hard, breaking his skin and swallows some of his blood, and, you guessed it! Naomi is now a vampire, too. And what does the Archangel Michael have to do with all of this? Is he Damian’s friend or foe? Will Lucifer still want Naomi? Will he find her? What is in this for Mark, anyway?
The POV changes swiftly from Naomi to Damian and back, a “she said/saw/thought-he said/saw/thought” kind of thing that worked perfectly with the story! It was like having surround sound in a book! Night Hawk is fast, furious and a little spicy at times, (of course, it is, we are talking vampires, here, worse than hormonal teens)! J. E. Taylor has a talent for getting the world built swiftly, jumping right into the action and holding a swift pace with tension, attitude and humor! I would have like a little more info about Naomi’s history, but, I definitely had an eyeful of her present situation!

When I started I didn't know this would be a vampire story. Had I known I might have declined reading it, but Night Hawk turned out to be a quick and easy read that kept me entertained, if not enthralled. Quick, because I read it in two hours, and easy, because it flows nicely chapter to chapter.

There’s some interesting chemistry between Naomi (new vampire on the block) and Damian (an old hand at this stuff) and there’s an intriguing plot that drives the story, particularly the persona and judgements of Archangel Michael, the terrible greed of Lucifer himself, as well as the alternate forms both Naomi and Damian are able to assume in the darkness.

However, I felt Night Hawk sort of began in the middle of a conversation no one knows about. And the turning of Naomi isn't quite believable. It lacks depth and one doesn't quite feel empathy for the main characters.

Entertaining, though, and perhaps the sequel will flesh out some of what seems to be lacking here. A light read to enjoy before bed.

I found this book to be spell binding, difficult to put down, and a very easy flowing read. I have read another of J. E. Taylor's books (Crystal Illusions) and found this book to be another hit. It did seem a bit short compared to some other books I have gotten recently, but the characters are well rounded and easy to love, well all but Mark and Lucifer.

The initial quarrel between Naomi and Damian make for a true friends then lovers relationship, They razz each other until the end of the book, and it makes them so enticing. Naomi's familial heritage provides for quite a bit of drama, and I love that she is a strong woman who rises to every occasion. She may be a damsel, and she may be in distress, but she takes everything head on, and that is the best trait a woman could possibly hope to have in her life.

I am so glad I read this book, and you should definitely give it a r

If you like vampires, indie authors, alternate POV chapters, purple prose, fated lovers, cheesy villains and short chapters: then this is the story for you.

So if you do like your narrative shaded with a purple paintbrush then expect the usual romantic declarations of intent, swooning, salacious glances and illicit shoulder brushing – and that’s just from Damian the hero! The sexual tension is turned sky high throughout, to the extent that it supersedes much of the overall plot line and becomes the errr... plot. I guess what I'm trying to say here is that there isn't much of one to write home about...

Naomi
description

The author drops us instantly into the thick of things. Naomi Hawk's scum of the earth boyfriend has landed her in somewhat of a pickle, and at the end of a date she finds herself on the business end of a knife brandishing demon. Not only this, but just before he can finish her off, a dark eyed vampire jerk swoops in and abducts her. Unfortunately, he wants to kill her too. A red letter day this is not. Luckily or well... unluckily... this is the b$tch who bites back. I guess no one told her that humans shouldn't bite vampires. Yes, she is kick-ass with a capital B for metaphorically flipping the Bird at all the scum who want to kill her. This girl is head strong and dare i say it (stupid) and things don’t end up working all that well for her and she becomes a vampire.

Whoopsie.

The dark eyed vamp is Damian, who becomes instantly smitten with the fearless young lady.

“No one has ever bitten me before,” he said.

I crossed my arms and studied him. “Sucks, doesn’t it,” I said. I couldn’t help it, the disbelief in his face made me want to laugh but I kept a check on my chuckle.

He blinked and then the smile that spread over his lips sent a shiver through me. Laughter followed, rich and full and as hypnotizing as his smile.

“Yes. It does,” he finally said and wiped at his neck again.

Damian
description

Damian looks like he is barely out of teens. Made a vampire against his will, he is hosting a one man revenge party to get back at Lucifer (yes that Lucifer) for destroying his life and loved ones two thousand years ago. You could say that he's been doing this for some time, so when Naomi lands in his lap he is very impressed with what he finds. Her transition to vampire took minutes rather than usual hours. Why? Because she is a child of light, which makes her exceptionally strong and powerful and most of all - wanted by Lucifer.

Naomi starts the story as a volatile newborn, crying and craving blood one minute then trying to hump the sofa like an over excited puppy the next. She's also a virgin and likes to treat her hooha like it's some blessed prize for only the most fabulous of heroes. Fortunately, Damian is rather fabulous. He even has a set of mighty wings, yes – the character actually called them his mighty wings.

For Damian the attraction is immediate and intense. He's flirtatious, he’s fun, he has an overactive libido - he's also Greek. Yum. He can also read Naomi's mind which is always a good thing to have around when you’re doing the dirty – meow. He's also not afraid to show his emotions.

“I have waited my entire life for you,” he said and the tear that slipped from the corner of his eye cut me deeper than I could imagine. He tried to smile, but it didn’t quite form and he dropped his head to my shoulder, cursing under his breath at the emotional display.

His reaction brought a smile to my face and I wondered why I wasn’t a mess like he was. Maybe two thousand years alone had prompted this. I planted a kiss on his temple and he squeezed me closer in response.

This story is very old-skool. It is first and foremost a romance, the action is a slightly neglected secondary character. If you aren't fussed on some of the smaller details of storytelling then you will enjoy this book - if you like the meaty stuff, then I would advise to avoid this story at all costs. A third of the way through the book we discover that a character is a shape shifter – we are not introduced to this fact until it happens for the first time. I had to read the same page three times before I realised what was going on. And the thing is – no one was even all that shocked. WTF?!? I would have lost my sh$t if I turned into an animal during a normal bout of fisticuffs. Could the character always do that? I don't know... argh!!!!

For me, this was a vampire revenge tale gone bad. This book had so much promise and ultimately failed to deliver. I enjoyed the writing - very much so. I would also read anything else by this author in the future. But it had none of the details synonymous with some of the more experienced writers in the genre. It also left so many vital questions unanswered. Did anyone notice that Naomi had been abducted? What did Naomi do for a living before becoming a vampire? How come she knows so much about guns? Where are her family? Where are her friends? Why is she so snarky? How do you angel or demon proof a property? So many questions – and no real answers to any of them. I did manage to use my powers of deduction to work out that she was 20 years old though. BOOM!

Original review here: http://offbeatvagabond.blogspot.com/2013/04/night-hawk-blog-tour-interview-review.html

Night Hawk is a story that starts off with a bang. A woman named Naomi is being chased by a demon. She just found out that her own boyfriend has sold her out to Satan. Satan wants her for her special blood and having her is priority number one. When it seems that her life is about to come to an end before Lucifer gets to her, she is saved by someone who clearly isn't human. He also clearly wants her dead. But Naomi isn't going to go down easy. Her fight for her life changes her forever. But even though she is on the run, her “savior” and would-be killer turns out to be something much more than she bargained for.

This was one fun little read. I liked our main characters a lot. I really liked Naomi. She had a lot of spunk that I didn't see coming. Turns out the girl is quite a badass, a little impulsive, but a badass nonetheless. She acts first and thinks of the consequences later. But lucky for her, that seems to work in her favor. I loved how her abilities seemed to evolve as the book went on. Being able to turn into a white Siberian tiger? That has always been my dream. I really loved Damian. He was so freaking awesome and hot. I couldn't help but imagine him an Damon Salvatore. One moment he is sweet and super sexy the next he makes you want to run for the hills. But that comes in handy in the book a lot. Naomi and Damian were explosive together. They are both very stubborn and are very attracted to each other. The back and forth teasing they had going on for the first half of this book nearly killed me. But I do love what we got.

I love the mix of vampires and demons in this book. Lucifer wants Naomi because she is a child of light. She is a descendant of the Archangel Michael. Her blood, along with others of Michael's bloodline, are considered a delicacy to Lucifer. So he is sending all his minions to catch Naomi. Damian knows what it Is like to be on the receiving end of Lucifer's wrath, but he was saved by Michael to protect those of his bloodline. They do not get along and haven't for a very long time. But Michael knows he will do what he can to save those of his bloodline.

As much as I did enjoy this, I did have a few issues. Well, I love that the book immediately starts off in the middle of the action. The problem is that it is not clearly explained how it all came about. We know her boyfriend sold her out to Lucifer for his own gain, but how. Did she know about her lineage beforehand? How did she find out angels, demons, and vampires existed in the first place? The book never tells us. And then when Naomi does become a vampire (by accident), she is goes into immediate badass mode. I loved her attitude and her spunk, but where did she learn all of that? How did she know she could turn? It just happens with no build up or explanation. There just needed to be a little more substance here for me.

Another issue I had was Lucifer himself. This has got to be the laziest devil ever. He didn't do anything. He sent his minions to do everything. And then when was actually in the thick of it all, he uses guns. He seemed more like a greedy crime boss than the devil. I mean, he was still evil as hell, but Naomi and Damian seemed to have more powers than him. And one more complaint, I wanted longer sex scenes! The scenes were hot, but I wanted them to last longer. They were too hot not to. I can't help it, I want more Damian.

Overall, this was a great read. The first half really focused more on Naomi and Damian and their growing relationship which I really liked. Their dialogue was fun and entertaining. Even though they have only known each other for less than a week, it seemed like they knew each other for much, much longer. The story was a fast read and a lot of fun. The characters were great and I can't wait to have more of them together. They are an amazing couple. Something about them kind of reminded me of Bones and Cat. Their chemistry, to me, just jumps off the page. Definitely recommended for PNR and UF fans.

Well, its straight in with the action for this book, with us meeting Naomi as she's at the mercy of a demon, on the roof of an eighty storey tower block. She's been sold out by her loser boyfriend to Lucifer, and one of his demons is about to take her. She falls and....is rescued by Damien, a vampire. Out of the frying pan into the fire but as Damien takes her blood she fights back and ingests some of his blood in the action turning her into a vampire. Damien has by then realised there's something special about Naomi, that she's a child of Light, a certain coveted bloodline. Damien had attacked her as he's been out for revenge against Lucifer and anything Lucifer wanted, such as Naomi, he was determined to prevent. However now he knows her bloodline he has another reason to protect her. He's been fighting for 2.000 years and until he met Naomi he hadn't realised how lonely he was. They're both very sexually attracted to each other and there are some pretty spicy sex scenes.

Its a great love story wrapped up in a riveting adventure when they try to hold out against Lucifer who is keen for Naomi's blood and long been trying to kill Damien. Together though they are a formidable force, with Damien being able to become a giant Hawk, and Naomi also having gifts above the norm for a vampire.

I really enjoyed this story except for one thing. Something I mentioned in another recent review where the female lead had similar extraordinary talents on changing from human to supernatural. Damien is over 2,000 years old, been fighting demons and Lucifer all that time ad yet...along comes new vamp Naomi, only two days old and she's saving his life. Not once but twice and she's telling him what to do and how they'll do it. I know J E Taylor gave her superpowers, I love a strong female lead, not a whining, weak, squealing one (can't stand those!) but this was a step too far for me. Fantasy requires us to suspend belief and have an open mind but it was too much for me to believe that she could be stringer physically and mentally than Damien – who has been fighting these demons for 2,000 years without dying – the within two days she saves his life twice? It would have been more credible for me if Damien had been the lifesaver and organiser, not Naomi.

There's a couple of appearances by archangel Michael and I did love Naomi's sark, puncturing his pomposity :) There were some great, quick fire humorous dialogue threaded among the action and drama, and in all it made for a great mix. Its left open ended, but tied up for this adventure and not left as my pet hate Cliffhanger ending! I assume its going to be a series, hope so anyway as they make a great team despite my grumblings about her being stronger than Damien.

Its well written and edited, all endings either wrapped up or leading the way into future novels and Its one for my keeper files. Priced at £2.75 for 317 pages in kindle and I’m giving it a star rating of 4.5 – would have been 5 if not for that irritation about her being “super-vamp” and stronger than Damien.

Full blog Post @Book-Marks the Spot

I Received this from All Night Reads for my honest review.

Naomi has just been betrayed by her boyfriend. He turned her over to a demon to bring to Lucifer. Before the demon can take her, she falls off the building and is saved by Damian, who is a vampire. He turns her and she wants revenge. Not on him, but on her ex and Lucifer and she is going to need Damian’s help in order to do it.

Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.

This book starts off with a kick, but then slowly dies down. Then it turns in a bunch of sexual tension between Naomi and Damian. So, that’s basically the first half of the book. It starts to get interesting again when they finally leave Damian’s house. They get attacked by demons and you think Damian would kill them, but no Naomi does. The rest of the book she keeps saving a two thousand year old vampire and she is only three days old. What in the world is going on? He should be saving her. Anyway, I wish there was more revenge talk in the book. I mean that’s what Naomi wants. I really like the concept of the story and that’s why I’m giving it three stars. I’m pretty sure there is going to be another one and I have high hopes that it is going to be better than this one.

Overall: A good read that has some surprising elements that will keep you entertained till the end.

Naomi- I really didn’t get attached to her. I mean she is crying or gets hurt and yet I feel nothing. I wanted to connect with her more. I want her to knock Damian out and do what she wants for a change.

Damian- When we first meet him, he is scary and hot. That shortly goes out the window as the story moves on. He is always about to die and Naomi saves him. There is nothing wrong with Naomi saving him; I just want him to be able to hold his own…which he can’t. Not to mention he is emotional all the time (PMS anyone).

When I first saw this book in Netgalley, I am not going to lie, the cover got me and I requested the book right away. The look on the girl’s face (Naomi) caught my attention from first glace. Unfortunately, that’s as far as my love could go for this book.

Naomi, the main character is betrayed by her boyfriend, Mark. He actually sold her out to Lucifer because she wouldn’t sleep with him. Yeah, a real prince charming, huh? Luckily for her, a shapeshifter vampire named Damian wants her too and as she is falling to her death, he swoops her up and takes her away. Unfortunately for Naomi, Damian wants to kill her too. Yeah, she is one lucky girl. So what does she do to fight back, she bites Damian on the neck! Well, little did she know that that is the way to turn into a vampire! So now, here she is, in front of this shapeshifter vampire, who by the way is in shock because, well, she bit him. Soon she finds out that Damian is seeking revenge on Lucifer because he took the love of his life some two thousand years ago. Now, together they will have to come up with a plan to take out Lucifer before he finds out that Naomi is still alive and a vampire at that.

I REALLY wanted to like Night Hawk, but unfortunately, it just wasn’t my cup of tea. There were times while reading where I had to flip back and reread the last few paragraphs because I didn’t understand what was going on. The story didn’t flow. It just felt like I was thrown into this story without any background information. Maybe it was lack of the world building? Now don’t let my review discourage you. Everyone has different likes and dislikes. I went onto Goodreads and saw many 5 point reviews. Give Night Hawk and try and you never know, you might actually be the next person that gives it a 5 star review.

You guys know I’m not normally the vamper fan. I actually had no idea this would be a vampire story. I was thinking along the lines of demons when the blurb talked about shadows. Well, there’s a little bit of everything in here. It starts out crazy! Like, Naomi is hanging over the side of an 80 story building crazy!!! It really doesn’t slow down either. And vampires are not “really” vampires… I mean they are, but they are different than what we normally associate with them.

Naomi is a strong woman, but when things go up in the air, she has some troubles, and yet she is still willing to bulldoze right through. She knows she isn’t going to be the strongest, or smartest, or most knowledged, but she refuses to give up and be a victim. I like this about her. She has the sarcastic dialogue down as well. I look forward to seeing her grow as more comes.

Damian… forgive me, but he is like the most sensitive ancient vamper ever. LOL Don’t get me wrong, he’s hawt, he’s old, but he’s a little whimpy for me. hahahahaha maybe it’s that alpha werewolf lover in me, but I really expected him to be mean and crazy for his age However, I need to say I actually liked that his character was not the “usual”. It’s always good when the author can make you do a double take. I also love unpredictable things in a book!

The writing is really good! She had me from the first sentences when I realized that the book would be starting with an almost really crazy death! Way to start me out immediately with action and then keep me entertained! Plus, way to have bad guys that you will LOVE to HATE!! I almost hated the bad guys more than I loved the good guys LOL! I enjoyed this one and I definitely will say if you like a vampire romance with some demons and angels and some serious family complications attached, this one is for you! 4.5 REFRESHINGLY BLOODY PAWS!

Vampires and angels and demons, oh my! J.E. Taylor's Night Hawk is packed with all three supernatural creatures. Naomi Hawk finds herself at the mercy of a demon courtesy of her jerk boyfriend, Mark. As if that wasn't terrifying enough, she's saved at the last second by a sexy vampire named Damian. Naomi manages to get herself turned into a vampire quite unexpectedly, and then she discovers that she has a very interesting family tree that puts her in even more danger, this time from Lucifer himself. Can she even survive her transition? And if she does, will she live long enough to get revenge on Mark and Lucifer? And what kind of relationship will she have with Damian?

This was an interesting take on the interaction between different supernatural species, with a lot of action and a little romance in the mix. However, there are some weaknesses in this novel. First of all, Naomi seems to know an awful lot about vampires, while she's clueless about angels and demons. There is no explanation for her knowledge of vampires. Where did Naomi even come from? All that we find out is that she has a grandfather, that she's at least part Native American, that she has a very special bloodline, and that she had been dating Mark for two years. We learn quite a bit more about Damian than we ever do about Naomi. Each chapter shifts POV between Naomi and Damian. While it was interesting getting inside the heads of both characters (while they were getting inside each other's heads!), at times it was confusing and I found myself having to go back to the beginning of the chapter to figure who "I" was.

The end of the novel is a great set-up for another installment, which I would be interested in reading to see if any of my questions are answered. I hope that if there are future volumes, we get to learn more about Naomi's origins.

Night Hawk is a thrilling read that is very fast paced, non-stop action and romance packed story. From the very first page, it draws you in and you can't stop reading. You start of meeting Naomi, a girl who was sold to demons by her boyfriend Mark. While facing death, Naomi is stolen from the demon that was going to kill her, only this was no rescuer he wants her for himself. Damian is a vampire, who only wants to kill Naomi, but when she sinks her teeth into his flesh instead of the other way around, she finds herself turning into a vampire.

Damian brings Naomi to his home, hoping that she will survive her first night as a vampire. He locks them inside his underground hideout and tries to keep his hands off of Naomi. Overnight, she finds herself thirsting for blood and lusting after Damian. Their love grows over the next few days, and yes it is a very speedy realization of their love for each other. You come to find out that Naomi is a descendant of the angel, Micheal, and that Damian is a protector of his bloodline. When Micheal realizes that Naomi has turned vampire, he is pretty irate to say the least.

When Lucifer finds out that Naomi is still alive, he sends demons to hunt her and Damian down. They both have a reason to kill Lucifer and both Naomi and Damian are out for revenge. Fearing for Naomi's safety, Damian tries to send her away, but she realizes that she could never stand to live without him, and so the fight with Lucifer beings.

I want to thank J.E. Taylor for allowing me to host her today! I really enjoyed reading Night Hawk and I hope you guys will also check it out and don't forget to leave a comment to be entered into a giveaway of a free e-book of Night Hawk!

Have you ever walked into the middle of a conversation and attempted to figure out what was going on? When I first began reading "Night Hawk " that is exactly how I felt. As a matter of fact, I stopped reading, went to goodreads.com to determine if I was reading book 2 rather than the first book all because the author did not adequately provide the background or world building to smoothly immerse the reader into the story line.

"Night Hawk" had the potential to be an exceptional read. The story was told from the two main character's points of view. Naomi Hawk is sold out to a demon by her so called boyfriend, Mark all because she refuses to let him get in her pants. When the demon attempts to take control of Naomi, she falls straight into the path of Damian, a shapeshifting vampire who wants to kill her. However, she catches him off guard and soon she has been turned into a vampire as well.

There is a chemistry growing among Damian and Naomi that cannot be denied. Yet, the newness of their budding relationship and their mistrust of one another will have to be dealt with if they are going to survive. Naomi will realize her potential and seek vengeance on those who have art out to harm her.

As I stated, this could have been an exceptional read if the author had taken the time to set the proper background and provided more then cursory details throughout the story. Much of my issues with this book could easily be fixed through better editing. Hopefully, the publisher will realize this prior yo the second book in the series.

This was a hard book for me to review. For the most part, I enjoyed reading it, I think it is worth reading, but I couldn't honestly remember any specific tidbits that really stood out to me after the fact. That being said, the story was fast paced, action packed, and entertaining.

I found the use of first person point of view for two different characters at times jarring and, with the duration of some of the chapters in each character's POV, sometimes hard to get into (it takes a little bit to reset to thinking that the "I" character is no longer who you think it is), which might have led to the above mentioned lack of tidbits (for me, I guess it was kind of liking switching between English and Spanish each chapter - I'd have to re-immerse myself each time). I finished the book quickly, so any issues with editing or style didn't slow me down, which I generally use as a guide of whether the editing was adequate.

Overall, I enjoyed the story, was immersed in the plot and the character's plights for most of the day. I enjoyed the characters and Michael was pretty complex, if a little frustrating (but the best characters always are). It was a fun little story to cuddle up on the couch with.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book was a really quick and fun start to what appears to be a new series. You are thrown right into the action from page 1 and I found myself hurrying to see where this book took me.

Naomi is a tested warrior facing some big bad at the beginning of the book, who we later learn is tied to Lucifer. Here's where I get a little confused. I guess either I missed some details or we aren't supposed to know everything yet, but I have no real idea how Naomi got into this business or how she found out what she was. Maybe we'll learn later? Either way, I'm a sucker for a vampire romance, that's what this essentially turned into.

Damien is the vampire love interest and we are immediately thrown into "I love you" situations, followed by action, followed by lots of arguing, etc etc -- your typical paranormal romance, with a little emphasis on rushing their feelings along because of the vampire-ey aspects of their relationship.

All in all, it was a fun, light read -- and I'm looking into picking the next one up for a rainy day.

I was given this book in return for an honest review. Naomi is sold up the river, by her boyfriend, to Lucifer. When a demon comes to collect, she is certain that she is dead. Rescued, kind of, by an unlikely savior, Naomi is changed. Damien is shocked by how quickly she changes an adapts. They are attracted to each other and at the same time, at each other's throats. The demon is still coming to collect Naomi for Lucifer, and Damien has to answer to archangel Michael for changing Naomi. With both of them being in danger, they will need to band together to survive. This was an easy read, not too long. It was a different twist to the normal vampire tale and I enjoyed it. Although a bit short,it was worth reading. I will watch for another book because I really did enjoy the characters and the plot and would like to see where the author takes it next.

There isn't much of a lead-up or introduction to the premise of the story. The reader kind of gets thrown in there at the deep end. One minute the main character is apparently a sweet tasting delectable morsel that is on the demons most wanted list and the next she has is toting her own set of fangs.
Not sure the fight scene with Michael was believeable. She is a newly turned vamp with a 'light' heritage and yet she is supposedly more powerful than an ancient angel?
Other than the constantly changing narration in the form of more than one first person POV, which was at times a little distracting, the story was pleasant. Unfortunately pleasant to the point of being rather bland.
I think given a little more character development and depth the story could have been a lot stronger.

One word – wow! Like several other reviewers I didn’t know this was a vampire book. Unlike the others, I still would have read it if I had known. I do love a good vampire story. And this was a good story.

Naomi and Damian’s relationship has an unusual beginning and continues to be unusual throughout the book. I enjoyed the interaction of these two characters. I think it was obvious how these two would fare at the end of the book but it was enjoyable watching the events unravel.

I’ve only read one other book by J.E. Taylor but I plan on reading more, especial the sequel to Night Hawk. I want to know more about Naomi and Damian.

(The author provided a complimentary copy, in return for my fair and impartial review.)

In the time of so many Vampire books comes this gem of a title. Just when I was about to walk away from this part of my favorite genre, I find this book in my reading club. If there are more writers like this one, we are in hope of not having to read the same old "boy bites neck, turns girl, they fall in love". This tale delivers more in it's pages with it's mixture of good versus evil and MORE SEXUALLY TENSION than a dark back seat at a busy midnight matinee. I was completely floored by how much I loved this book and didn't want it to end. More of this please, and make it as soon as possible!!!!

This was part of a book club.I felt that I had little trouble getting into it at the very beginning, but was it ever worth the wait! The characters are multi-dimensional, the chemistry between them is powerful, and the story is well rounded. I was hooked after about the second or third chapter and really felt connected. I was a little disappointed at the end because I wanted it to just keep going. This, in my option, is the greatest gift a writer can give to the reader. Well done.

I received this book as a first reads win and I am glad that I did. It was a refreshing take n the vampire genre. These Vampires have a different mission and ways of life. I loved that the female character as she was strong and wouldn't step back and let the man take the lead.
The had a strong story line that is always a plus as there are alot of books that don't lately. I can't wait to read the next book.

Night Hawk has Vampires, an angel, demons, shifters, surprises, good writing, action and it flowed well. The sexual chemistry between Naomi and Sebastian was believable and the sex scenes were steamy. I liked it. Definitely worth a read. :-)

I was provided a free copy of this book for my honest opinion.

5 / 5

I actually didn't see some of the twists coming, a rare and thoroughly enjoyable thing. For the first in the series it was perfect and will have anyone that reads it waiting impatiently for the next installment. Vampires, angels, demons, battles and so much more. A brilliant job by J. E. Taylor!
Well done!

Cool concept

I liked the concept of Michael vs lucifer and the mix of vampires in between. It ended pretty abruptly and I hope there will be a sequel. Cool that these vampires had extra special powers. Fun read.

An exciting vampire romance in a modern American setting. This story features an unusual combination of characters, including a vampire, of course, but more significantly, his relationship with a human girl who, technically, is a nephilim ...the great-grandchild of an archangel. The story is filled with tense moments and surprising twists, and of course, she falls for her vampire rescuer, and he falls for her. The plot is complex, and the final outcome is touching. I really enjoyed reading the book, and I'm looking forward to reading the first sequel in the series - "Tigress," starting that today!

Not A Good Day

This is an entertaining read about a young woman whose choice in a boyfriend leaves a lot to be desired. He literally sold her to the devil. She was plucked from her death to end up with someone who wants to kill her too. She shocks her supposed killer when she bites back. That is the beginning of a myriad of circumstances and situations that have her dealing with angels and demons. Enjoy I did.

This author certainly can write very good stories that's for sure. This one is different take on the vampire theme, but very good nonetheless. Not usually one for romances but found myself engrossed in this one. Recommended.

Title: Night Hawk

Series: Night Hawk Series - Book 1

Author: J.E Taylor

Genre: Romance, Sci-Fi, and Fantasy

Blurb: Selling your soul has never been so charming and Mark throws in a little something to sweeten the pot, his girlfriend Naomi.
Sentenced to death at the hands of a demon, Naomi Hawk has a firsthand lesson in despair and betrayal in Mark’s deal for fame with all the trimmings. Deep in the clutches of the underground brotherhood, Naomi's light is coveted for the Master's gain.
When she slips and falls eighty stories from a precarious ledge, Naomi resigns herself to the inevitable impact and death by shattered bones. Before she can escape her demons in eternal slumber, something sinister plucks her from the plummet, stealing her out of the night to sacrifice her forever to the shadows.
Imprisoned in bottomless darkness, Naomi thirsts for justice…and revenge.

Thoughts: Descended from the bloodline of the archangel Michael, Naomi finds herself to be the perfect pawn for in a game between good and evil. When her boyfriend makes a bargain with Lucifer, Naomi finds herself walking into a trap - one that he orchestrated. Caught between the demons after her and a eighty story fall, Naomi is trying to decide which would be the better death when she slips and falls. She's surprised when she is whisked right out of the air - and finds herself face-to-face with a new enemy.

Damien has a long-held personal grudge against Lucifer, and prides himself on taking away anything that he coveys. His intent is to kill her and drain her dry - imagine his surprise when she bites him back! Before he knows it she's a creature of the night like him. And it's all happened so quickly - before he realizes that she's a descendant of Michael's! Was it all just an accident? Or something preordained by fate?

While the premise of the story is a good one, I had quite a few problems with this book. My main issue was the bouncing back and forth between the character's points of view. The chapters take turns between telling Naomi's point of view and that of Damien. While I do like getting different reads on the thoughts and emotions of different characters, the fact that it was told in the first person just made it utterly confusing! With "I did this...", or "I felt like", it made it difficult to remember which "I" you were reading about - that of Naomi or that of Damien.

Another major fault with this book for me was the lack of explanations. The whole way that this world works was not explained. Why the difference between the vampires? They are both vampires - yet she develops the ability to shift into a Siberian tiger and Damien shifts into a hawk. Why do they shift at all? Do all vampires have different forms? Why? What about the world around them? Is anyone else aware of these strange vampires and of the demons roaming the earth? It's all just discussed as the norm, but where is the back history of this strange environment? I need to know more about the world that Naomi finds herself living in. I'm sorry but Damien's explanation of "I don't know" didn't really cut it for me.

And while Naomi stands her ground in the face of danger - almost recklessly at times (for example, challenging the archangel Michael) she doesn't come off as particularly "tough" for me. Definitely not as tough as a Michael and a ancient vampire. Yet, she manages to defeat not just Lucifer, but a whole hoard of demons and the ex-boyfriend - almost single handedly. I mean, Really?....I just can't buy it. Not to mention how many times she - the newborn vampire - has to "rescue" the ancient vampire who has been around centuries longer than her. How in the world did he survive so long by himself?

While there is a good, solid premise behind the book - and it has the capability of being a good book - the execution of it just didn't do it justice. All of the issues just came together and made it really hard to feel any connection with the characters. I had to really struggle to finish the book, and this really bothered me since I feel it could be a really good story that I could get into if these issues were addressed. I'm sorry to say that I won't be clamoring to read the next book in the series.

I received a free copy from the publishers in exchange for an honest review.

I tried to read this, I really did but I just couldn't get into it. The start is rushed, there isn't really much of an introduction to the characters and the language goes from juvenile to crass from one paragraph to the next. The author doesn't do a good job of creating a believable world. At one point I was wondering if I had missed out a book and was reading a follow-on book.

I'm going to leave my review at that.
