Losing Faith

Rate this book
Seth Storm, a once famous musician from Nashville, is now nothing more than a fallen star. After climbing the music charts and making his dreams come true, his life took a turn that he’d never expected, causing him to lose it all. But Seth is determined to do whatever it takes to get it all back, even if that includes doing the one thing he swore he’d never do.

After turning his back on his career, music, and the life he had worked so hard to build, Seth embarks on a journey to make things right and get his life back.

Along the way, Seth encounters a storm that threatens his chances at getting back the one thing that could fix his broken life: his daughter, Faith. Forced to travel with strangers, Seth discovers that his success and failure are not just at the hands of fate, but that they also rest within his traveling companions.

This is a story about how far a man will go when he has nothing to lose and only one chance at getting it all back to honor a promise he made to his little girl. The road to picking up the pieces of his broken life places him face-to-face with his demons, leading him to realize that nothing is worse than Losing Faith.

Life always gives us struggles but some where there is a piece of the puzzle being put together....

I have a new thing with books, if they don't capture my attention within the first two chapters, they're put in the maybe later pile....

this book didn't just catch my attention and keep it, it delivered an amazing story.

well worth reading

Pick it for me Freebie Reads #17. Thanks for Voting!

Say it with me, LIFETIME MOVIE.

When I added this to the Freebie Poll, it was because the premise. It sounds so good and at the time, I was still on my contemporary wave (yes, I know I keep mentioning it). Losing Faith had its good part(s). Sadly, there were so many issues I had that I just couldn't like it, let alone love it.

I enjoyed the meaning behind Losing Faith. Second chances, love, hope and a little bit of fate. The story follows not just Seth, but Frank, Trista and her daughter Savannah too. Seth, on his way to Indiana for his daughter, Faith. Trista on the run from her abusive fiance'. Joined together in the storm, they help each other during the journey. We see what when two people are thrown together, you can heal.

That's pretty much it. Okay, there is part of the ending like I liked, but more on that below.

Let's start with Seth. This man... he is a douche. I initially felt sorry for the guy, losing his wife and then his daughter; but he was so incredibly selfish and narrow-minded it pissed me off. I get it. When we lose people, it changes you and sometimes, people CAN'T handle it. But that does NOT give you a reason to be like that. I mean, he contemplated leaving a woman started in her car, during a rain storm-- INJURED-- because he had somewhere to be. Wait, what? YEAH. And that was in the BEGINNING.

This is probably just me, but who in their RIGHT MIND, tries to leave the state in the middle of the WORST STORM your city has pretty much ever seen? We are talking white out conditions, people. FEET of snow. It would have been so much easier to just stay at the airport or hey, call your people and let them KNOW you are stranded. *huffs* Not only that, Savannah (Trista's daughter) is a little spit fire teenage girl with an attitude. Still, this girl decides she is SO PISSED at her mom, that she takes off walking IN THE STORM. No. I don't care how pissed and irrational teenagers can be, this was so stupid and was only in there to add tension. Aaaaaand, during this snow storm, they get a flat tire. I mean, c'mon.

The writing. *sighs loudly*

There was NO depth. At all. And 99% of the plot was unrealistic that my eyes were hurting from the eye rolling.

So, we know that Trista is on the run from her fiancé, because not only was he abusive but he was controlling. She is terrified that he would come looking for her and take her. Which is legit, I would say. BUT. Aha, that but, when he DID find them, it was in the middle of the book and so anticlimactic. I was just like, "that's it?"

I am not one to usually share quotes but sometimes, there are things that pop out and stick with me. And these few bothered me.

"But kids shouldn't have to understand such difficulties. It was the best part of growing up in this complicated and often unfair world. Innocence was truly greatest gift a child would ever lose." Kindle location 23%
I can't even say why this bugs me so much. I agree to a point, but you wonder why your 15-year-old daughter is a prissy, selfish little girl. SHE KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT THE DIFFICULTIES OF LIFE, because you shelter her and give her what she wants.

"When I've found myself in the worst moments of life, and my wife and I can't seem to get on the same page, I pause, take a step back from the issue, and remember how beautiful and important that woman is to me. And in that moment, the thing that is causing our pain seems to get smaller and become insignificant. I guess when you truly love someone, you love them through the worst times the same as you do the great times."

Well said, old man. Except for the fact that you just admitted to brushing your problems under the rug because it's small and insignificant because of how beautiful your wife is and how important she is. Can we say, communication? You must work at your relationship, not hope that your love for that person will fix it. It just doesn't WORK that way.

The ending part I liked-

Okay. We know Frank is here for some reason and while I started to piece it together, I was kind floored by the revelation. Then again, he was also played a HUGE part in Seth getting Faith and on a legal standpoint, I just don't see that happening. Call me a pessimist.

Overall- I barely brushed all the issues that I had with Losing Faith. There is just too much WTFery going on, lack of depth, the writing and characters you can't, and don't, relate to or care about.
But this would be a good Lifetime Movie. No matter how implausible those things are, they are SO GOOD.

Great storyline,

Seth had lost his wife, and did not want to loose his daughter, Faith who was living with his wife's parents. He was a 'famous' country and western singer, but had stopped singing, causing financial issues.

We first start out with Seth rushing to get to the airport, when he sees and stops at a car accident. Although he doesn't want to miss his flight, he decides to stay and help. Leaving a necklace with the girl in the car, so she can get it back to him.

We them jump a little further, after he looses his car, with him at the airport in the worse storm Nashville had ever seen, all flights cancelled! He is desperate to get back to his daughter, but the weather has other ideas! We also meet Trista and her daughter Savannah, who has left her boyfriend, but they are stuck at the airport too. and we meet Frank, who also needs to get home. Frank gets the last rental car and overhears Seth losing his patience as there are no cases left. Frank offers Seth a ride.

So they journey begins, with Seth being grateful but still feels everything is against him. the weather is getting worse, but they continue, after a while they come across a broken down vehicle, although Seth wants to leave it, Frank convinces him to offer they occupants a ride, its Trista and Savannah, mother and daughter.

We learn all about each of the characters stories, all desperate too get back to Fort Wayne, but all leaving something behind in Nashville.

The journey is not without hitches, They happen onto as wedding in a place called Cupid. Seth's attitude begins to change he let's himself begin to hope! Trista's past catches up with them, but crisis is averted! Frank is this as wise as ever!

They eventually make it home, Frank gets back to his wife, Seth makes the court appearance, still doubting himself, and Trista goes back to her mom. But she surprisingly turns up to support Seth at Court.

Loved how it all turned out, life does have a habit of turning things around. great epilogue.

Losing Faith is a very moving story about a man's quest to get back to his young daughter, a young mother's quest to get herself and her daughter away from her abusive fiance, and an older man's quest to just get back home. All of these people cross paths at the Nashville airport on a very stormy night in December on a common mission to get to Indiana.

When I first started reading the story, I was able to get through the beginning of Seth's story fine. Then came Trista's story and that of her daughter, Savannah. Once I finished that chapter I just knew there was no way I would be able to finish the book. But I soldiered on and am very glad that I did.

I don't think I've cried this hard at the end of a book in a long time; happy tears I promise. This story of Seth, Trista & Savannah, and Frank provides the reader with so many life lessons, the most of important of which is that help comes when you least expect it and in the least expected form.

I recommend this book to everyone.

This is the perfect weekend read. I had just finished a very intense book and needed something sweet to read and this was just right.

Seth Storm is an up and coming country singer who was once married to the woman of his dreams and has a beautiful daughter called Faith. Tragedy struck and his wife died, leaving him to raise his daughter alone. He sinks into depression and turns to alcohol to soothe his pain. Now he has just been through a stink of rehab and is determined to turn his life around and be the father his daughter deserves.

Of course the path to this will not be easy and his 'journey' back to his girl is interrupted by the worst snow storms, stranded motorists, a whiney teenager and her mum, a psycho tow truck driver and a cute couple at a bed and breakfast.

Yep, this book has lots going on but is worth the read because it is really sweet *sigh*

This was an okay story with one great character, Frank, all the rest were mediocre.

Seth's character was tiresome. It appeared to me he had a tough time doing the right thing to help others, thinking only of himself. And who in their right mind would sing a song about his wife's horrible death as a special song for a bride and groom at their reception. Again, too consumed with self and his own grief.

Trista had a problem being honest to the two men who rescued her and her daughter from a broken down car. She should have clued them in to the danger she was placing them in.

The story moved much too slowly for my tastes and there was repetition throughout.

Personally, I cannot recommend this book but please take my review with a grain of salt. Not everyone feels about it as I do.

I really enjoyed the story and could see this as movie on Lifetime or the Hallmark channel. I liked how the story intersected all the characters. What I didn't like was all the cliche situations and the fact that the main character, Seth, was so self-absorbed and unconcerned about the other people he was traveling with. I thought he and Trista getting together seemed rushed and not alot of substance behind it. I didn't realize this was a series so maybe we'll see more of that in the other books.

DNF at 70%.

I could have finished this considering I had made it all the way to 70% but my lunch breaks at work would be better spent sacrificing the precious hour of break time to actually work rather than finishing this book.

I knew it was going to be corny and I knew it would remind me of a Lifetime movie and I would have totally been OK with all the cliches and drama that come with a story like that, but Seth is an annoying whiny little prick and I just ain't got time for it.

The story itself is nice, the old man is great, but... Seth. Grow a pair, eh?

Sorry! :)

I really liked the idea of the story and how the story lines of four people, all strangers intersected. However it was like the author thought of every bad, drama filled scenario possible and put them ALL in the book making you wonder how it was possible for a group of people to have such terrible luck.

Seth Storm is a once-been Nashville musician who is trying to pick up the pieces of his shattered life and get back to his daughter. But when a winter storm strands him, he is forced to travel with strangers and thinks he might lose it all. I liked this story and how all the little pieces came together in the end. It was a clean read with an inspiring message of love and faith.

Good entertaining reading

Seth has lost everything in his life that matters. Now he has to not only fight to get it all back, but fight the effects of a once in a lifetime blizzard that rolls through the lower states at the worst possible time for him. He is stranded at the airport with all planes grounded. He meets Trista & Savannah who have secrets of their own & Frank who is just trying to get home to his wife for Valentine’s Day after some life changing decisions. Frank was able to rent the very lost car in the rental lot. Together the four of them decide to conquer the driving snow, nasty roads, long drive that is challenging on the best of days, and new friendships. Do they make it back to Forte Wayne in time to save what is left of Seth’s important parts of life? Will this crazy group of misfits become friends forever?

Wonderful and Haunting Story
This book was carefully crafted to be a love story, suspense, mystery and inspirational. It pulls it all together in a tight plot. The story is a touch predictable, but that doesn’t get in the way of a very good story. The complex characters are flawed heroes and very realistic. I am looking forward to reading more from this author, especially the next two books in this series. I received this book at no cost and voluntarily chose to post my review.

This was the first book that I’ve read from this author but I’m certain that it will not be my last. It's not often that you read such a heart warming story that is written by a man. Losing Faith is a heartwarming feel good story with heartache, abuse, and forgiveness.

Seth Storm had it all, a promising career as one of the best up and coming country music singers, a wife that he loved more than life itself and a daughter that he adored. But after one tragic accident, he lost it all. He walked away from his career and turned to the bottle after he lost his wife which lead to him losing his daughter, Faith as well. Now broke but clean and sober, all he wants in life is to have Faith back but nothing is going his way. One of the worse storms in the 10 years has hit Tennessee and canceled all flights out and to make matters worse, the last car was just rented out to the man in front of him in line. This is his second and last chance that he has to prove that he can take care of Faith as she deserves to be raised. He has to get out of Nashville and back to Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Trista has to get out of town with her 15 year old daughter fast. She’s finally done what she should have done a long time ago and that is to leave the abusive relationship that she’s in but with the impending storm, all flights are canceled out of Tennessee and now she and Savannah are driving to New Haven, Indiana in a beat up car that has seen better ways. With an abusive ex-fiancé hot on their trail and a teenager that doesn’t want to leave her friends or her boyfriend, this trip isn’t going to be an easy one.

Fate steps in and lends a hand when all seems lost but again nothing is ever as easy as it seems. I loved the characters in this story. I felt for Seth and all that he had gone through and can understand why he blamed himself even though not all that had happened was his fault. The relationship between Trista and Savannah, while rocky at times, was one that anyone with teenagers could relate to.

And then there is Frank. His character was amazing. He always seemed to know what to say to help with the situation at hand. The plot twist at the end really through me for a loop and made me cry as things come back full circle. The epilogue was perfect and gave closer for everyone and left me happy tears.

I wanted to read this series because I enjoyed Jeremy Asher's Jesse and Sarah series. I don't know what it is with his series but there is always at least one character that I spend the book asking "what the hell is wrong with you?!". Seth is the character in this series for me. I actually found him to be very unlikable throughout most of the book. I get that he lost his wife and is grieving but wow. I'm not really sure what Trista sees in him but then again she doesn't have the best track record if Tuck is any indication. That story line was a big build up and then it was over before you knew it in a very anticlimactic way. Savannah was a typical "it's all about me" teenager but I loved Frank, Deana and Harvey. Not the typical genre for me but it's the one I tend to turn to when I'm vacationing. So far I would recommend the series, especially if you like Lifetime movie type books.

"Losing Faith" by Jeremy Asher ended up being a decent read. I had this book on my eReader for a while and decided it was time to read it. I must admit that I wasn't sure I would like it, and that is why it took so long for me to get around to reading it. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed reading this story.

The main character is a country-western singer that feels that he has failed everyone he has ever loved. The other characters that make up the story are: Trista the young single mom running from an abusive relationship and teen daughter Savannah; Frank the older man who helps these young people out in their time of need; and, Deena and Harvey (who are just the sweetest couple) who run the B&B at Cupid's Corner.

This story reminds me of the "feel good" type of movies I have watched on "Lifetime". This is definitely a "feel good" book.

I read "Losing Faith" on the recommendation of a friend. It didn't take long for me to be drawn into the story. This isn't my usual genre, but I'm glad I took the chance. I found myself looking forward to picking it back up again and even stayed up late the last night just so I could finish it.
I found this book easy to read (which translates for me as being easy to forget my own world) and very well edited. The author does a great job with the main character, Seth, making you love him one minute and want to slap him the next. Ultimately, you'll love him. I would have preferred the heat level turned up just a bit once Seth's inner battles and personality was revealed, but that is personal preference.
A great twist at the end that leaves the reader with a feel-good smile when you're done. I will definitely go on to purchase the second book in the series.

Seth is a fallen country western singer. After his wife was killed he had many setbacks. The characters in the book are all very likable. You want to cheer for them when they are down and try to help them on with life's problems.
Trista leaves her abusive lover and takes her daughter to return to family in Fort Wayne They encounter a snow storm and meet Seth at the airport. They end up traveling by car with a fourth person that seems like a wonderful, steady individual. The plot cleverly pulls in the reader.
This was a free Kindle and an excellent one.
i would read other books by this author.
