Hockey is my life. It’s all I’ve ever wanted, all I’ve ever needed, and everything was going according to plan. All I had to do was focus on the game, keep my head down, then get drafted into the NHL.
With my team by my side I was focused solely on the game. I thought nothing could stop me, but then my father came along and ruined everything.
He demanded a business marriage for my sister, and I knew I had no choice but to step in and take her place so she could be happy.
My only real solace is that I get to pick my bride from a list he has deemed worthy.
I just never could have guessed that my sister’s best friend would be on that list.
Hallie Rose Sanders has been one of my closest friends for years, and now she is the only reasonable choice I can pick as my future wife.
But what do I do when the lines between us begin to blur? When I don’t know where our friendship ends or our marriage starts, and instead of focusing on taking down my father, all I can see is her.
Please ignore this is so I can remember to read this book when it comes out This is the josh snd haley story remember you liked the first book that was the puck secret
Notes to remember Asshole father Arranged marriage And hockey
•fake relationship, and don’t you worry, the author won’t let you forget it, she says it so many times •best friends brother •unrequited love
Extremely corny and not written well at all. I think I rolled my eyes no less than 728282 times. I simply cannot be the only person who found this painful. The amount of times fake relationship was brought up felt incredibly forced, and so did Josh’s possessiveness. It’s as if the author thought we were going to forget they weren’t in a real relationship.
I wanted to DNF so many times but pushed through and will say the second half is stronger, but still I wasn’t vibing with this book and found the story lacking, which really hurts since I loved puck secret so much! If first half is 2⭐️, second half is 3.25⭐️. Overall a 2.75 star read, and it hurts to say it.
I was expecting a lot more autism rep after book 1 repeatedly brought up that Hallie was autistic, it truly felt like an afterthought in this book!
Just when I thought I loved the first book, Josh & Hallie swooped in to take that top spot!!!🔥
Firstly, did someone say marriage of convenience?🫠 This is one of my favourite tropes so I was instantly excited for this and it didn’t disappoint. Every time Josh said “my wife” I was melting😮💨
Josh & Hallie grew up together, with Josh being the love of Hallie’s life since she was 9 years old. She has constantly sat on the sidelines wanting him to notice her as more than just friends. I loved the way that the two of them would continuously throw insults back & forth at each other, which seemed like a way to mask their feelings.
By choosing to marrying Hallie, Josh is gaining back the control his father seems to have over him. I feel like him having to fake marrying Hallie gave him the opportunity to see her in a different light, as someone who wasn’t just his friend, and his little sister’s best friend but also the grown up woman that she is. Them sharing more space together really allowed their feelings to show for each other.
It was impossible not to fall in love with Hallie! She was relatable, hilarious & just an all round fun character. I loved that her character represented autism & the many struggles people face. It was nice to see Josh acknowledge what triggers Hallie & what makes her feel comfortable, going out of his way to do things for her. She was such a strong character but she also felt that vulnerability, waiting years for Josh to finally notice her.
I loved that Josh had a hands off rule around campus for years, not allowing anyone to get involved with Hallie & if they did, there would be consequences. He didn’t even realise his feelings for Hallie at the time but after looking back he realises that he has liked her since they first met.
This book was spicy but also a slow burn! I loved Hallie & Josh give into the temptation of each other. The constant digs back & forth between them really helped add to the tension stirring.
There was an extra added element to this book that I really enjoyed which was Josh using investigators to track down information on his father. It was interesting to see what was uncovered & how it related to parts of what was going on in the story already.
Why did the mmc have to have the same name as my brother? Lowkey had to disassociate myself from my brother every time I read the name Josh😭💀
Overall, I really enjoyed this book & would highly recommend.
I’m not usually a fan of the childhood lovers trope buttttt mix that with fake dating/marriage of convenience and whew baby👏🏾
I love a sassy fmc and a dominant mmc who can also be a misunderstood golden retriever at times but only for her lol .
The only reason I’m not ranking this a full 4 or 5 stars is because the second half was so much better than the first and the constant reminder of the word fake was irritating tf outta me . Like I swear the word fake came up around 70 times and I’m like okayyyy we get it . Then there’s the self sabotage thing and one step forward , two steps back . I pushed through tho bc I understood why it was happening bc the dad was so trash omg the way I would’ve ran away🙃 .
I love these series and the characters so I know I’m gonna devour the next one bc I’ve been waiting for Daemon and Archer story since the first book! I haven’t read a MM yet that doesn’t devour so I’m so excited 🤗
This was going good but it was ruined with the whole voyeurism scene with his best friend who likes to watch..🤐and so what was the whole thing about being possessive and HUSBAND.. The H apparently knows his bf is not really attracted to h so it was ok for him. But just a big NO for me. I wish I had read reviews mentioning this before I picked this book.
Go ahead… guess how many highlights I have for this book. Huh? What was that??
…365 HIGHLIGHTS. 🤭🤭
We’ve been WAITING for this couple since we got that snippet at the very end of The Puck Secret and boiiiii did Gabby deliver!!!!
This is Josh and Hallie’s story. Josh is Maddie’s older brother and Hallie is her best friend (who has always been in love with said older brother). Josh needs a fake wife, and Hallie is just the girl for the job. But when he finally starts to see her the way she’s seen him for years, it gets hard to tell what’s fake and what’s not.
There is SOOO much to love in this book, ya’ll. This is gonna be my Roman Empire for a while. It is full to the brim with banter/push and pull, swoony moments that keep us locked in and SPICE that will quite literally make you involuntarily clench your thighs. 🤣🫨
Josh is perfection. He is IT. He’s officially in that elite book husband club very few have the privilege of being in.
The spice in this book? Immaculate. Oh. My. GAWD. I was literally blushing. Having involuntarily body reactions 🤣🫨. She is just as filthy as he is >>
It’s also an autism rep and it made me love this book even more. There’s surprises in this book about it I will not reveal, but prepare to cry 🥲. He’s always looking out for her aversions and making sure she has everything she needs to be comfortable wherever they are and UGH THIS MAN!! 🥺
Tropes: hockey • best friend’s brother • friends to lovers • marriage of convenience • pining • autism rep • “MY WIFE” • possessive MMC • found family
Thank you SOOOOOO much Gabby for letting me be one of the ones to read this early!! Never getting over it!!! 💚💚😭
College hockey is my kryptonite and it was so good being back at Fairfield U, especially after the end of The Puck Secret. Josh and Hallie did not disappoint and Gabby had me hooked, right from the special author’s note!
What to expect: college hockey, childhood friends to lovers, marriage of convenience, lots of “my wife”, best friend’s brother, autism rep 4.5 ⭐️ 3.5 🌶️
This book picks up right up where we left off in The Puck Secret, Josh offering himself to save his sister from an arranged marriage. Much to his delight, his best childhood friend is one of the “approved” brides he has to choose from and who better to help him take down his father?
This book was such a good read. I loved being back in this world! The banter between Josh and Hallie was so comfortable and easy; they easily fell back into the friendship they had when they were younger. I loved the progression of their relationship, and how they always had each others back. Josh was a man obsessed, despite trying to keep some boundaries in place around Hallie. The “my wife” moments always wreck me in these books and he did not disappoint! I loved the tension between them, the flirty banter and waiting for them to cross that line. I also really enjoyed the softer side of Josh; it really showed the deep connection between him and Hallie.
One of my other favourite things about this book was our man, Nova. And the BREADCRUMBS Gabby dropped for book 3. I AM SO READY!
Feels repetitive and forced. I don’t need to be reminded every other page that this is a “fake” engagement/marriage. Word count for “fake”…72 times.
The autism rep really didn’t make any sense to me either. The author states that Hallie has autism but everything was very contradicting. We’d get a sentence stating that Hallie “doesn’t like to be touched” but then she’s at a party shaking hands, hugging people and dancing with Josh? 🤔
Just because a person doesn’t like to be touched or they have a routine/order they like to do things, that doesn’t automatically equate to autism. Unfortunately, it just felt like the author was trying to check a box. 🤷🏻♀️
3.5 stars. The Puck Decoy is a hockey romance with arranged/marriage of convenience, best friend’s brother, friends to lovers, and has autism rep (own voices).
I loved the first book in this series, The Puck Secret, where you meet all the characters featured in this book. You’ll also get the setup of this book there as well, basically Josh’s dad is the worst and was blackmailing Josh’s sister Maddie (heroine of TPS) into an arranged marriage with a business associate’s son. To save his sister, Josh said he’d marry someone so she wouldn’t have to and ended up finding a bride from a list of “approved” brides from his dad. When he saw his sister’s best friend, and who happened to be one of his friends too, on the list, he knew Hallie was it!
Hallie first met Josh when she moved in next door to him when she was just 9 and he was 11. She’s been secretly crushing on her best friend’s brother ever since. I wasn’t as sold with the couple of this one. Josh plays hockey and wants to take down his dad and Hallie has been into him for years and is in this marriage of convenience to save her bff Maddie. I liked the hockey teammates and am already sooo ready for the next book after the setup throughout this story and the glimpse at the end! While book 1 is still my favorite, I do like the overall world of characters we get!
I received an ARC, all thoughts in this review are my own!
Okay, well, that was disappointing. I feel like this book was crazy rushed and the amount of grammatical errors & misspellings was unreal. I think the author seriously just said fuck it and delivered us the book because it was over a year and a half from when the first one dropped.
Extremely corny and not written well at all. I cannot be the only person who found this hard to get through. The amount of times fake relationship was brought up was insane - like we get it, THEY ARE FAKE MARRIED. Same with them being best friends, dude we got it, you do not have to keep mentioning it over and over again. It's as if the author thought we were going to forget they weren't in a real relationship. Trust us we remember…
I truly wasn't vibing with this book and found the story lacking (pretty sure I started to skim it), which really hurts since I loved the first book so much!
Also, the third act breakup was so confusing, because the reason why she was so mad didn't actually make any sense - out of the whole freaking list, he choice you boo. Y’all could’ve just talked that one out and then banged it out too. I also really wanted to know more about what the Mayor was arrested for - it’s like the author skipped all that pertinent information.
To sum up my review, this book is just okay. Lots of repetitive sayings, tons of grammatical errors and misspellings, rushed, story was lacking, and it was quite corny.
There was so much more that could have been done with their story. The author missed it with this one.
This was SO CORNY I could not with the dialogue in this book. If she mentioned dick punching one more time i was gonna scream. Also Josh's possessiveness seemed a little forced and was no cute at all.
Just when I didn’t think anyone could compare to Nova Darkmore from The Puck Secret @authorgnwright said “HANG ON, LETS MEET JOSH” 🫠
Move over Nova, Josh Peters’s has entered the room 😮💨 this guy was EVERYTHING. Tainted by his devil of a father he’s on a mission to take him down. While protecting and saving his sister he takes the place instead of her for….
…did someone say Marriage of convenience? 🫠 one of my favourite tropes and this one was PERFECT! And who better to enter into this marriage with then his sister’s best friend and someone who he trusts.
HALLIE 🥹 the sweet angel she is. I will never get over her threatening to “dick punch” Josh 🤭 This girl has been secretly in love with her best friend’s brother for YEARS and would do anything for him. Even marry him 😮💨
Guys!! These two. I have no words. This was a beautiful slow burn, but then it burned so damn good! I loved their dynamic, the tension, the banter they have it all. Josh really turns into the boy obsessed “MY WIFE” I live for this 😮💨 and can I just mention, as sweet as he is (I mean he bought, read and made notes on Autism just for her🥺🥺) the man has a dirty mouth on him, and that one scene?? HOLY. The spice was spicing 🫠
Ummmm excuse me?!?! This book had no business being this good 😭 I absolutely LOVED Josh & Hallie. I truly didn’t think I could ever love it more than book 1 in the series… but this couple definitely stole my heart.
Tropes: - Hockey Romance - College Romance - Marriage of Convenience - Best Friend’s Brother - Friends to Lovers - Boy Obsessed - Possessive MMC - Autism Rep - Found Family - “My Wife”
Tropes: ✨Hockey Romance ✨Best Friend’s Brother ✨Marriage of Convenience ✨Forced Proximity ✨Friends to Lovers ✨Boy Obsessed ✨Autism Rep
I have BEEN WAITING for Peter & Hallie’s book since we met them in The Puck Secret and let me tell you it did not disappoint. Gabby has KILLED it again! If you follow me, you must know how much I loved The Puck Secret and now I am obsessed with The Puck Decoy. I can just tell already that this series will live in my heart. The Puck Decoy picks up right where we left off in The Puck Secret.
The Puck Decoy follows Joshua Peters & Hallie Sanders. Josh’s dad is the absolute worst and was blackmailing his own daughter Maddie into an arranged marriage with a business associate’s son. However, Josh wants to save his sister from this marriage. So, what does Josh do? He told his dad he will marry someone so his sister wouldn’t have to and ended up finding a bride from a list of “approved” brides that his father gave him. When he sees Hallie’s name on that list, he knew she was it. Not only has his sister’s best friend but also his. They first met when they were 9 years old when Hallie moved next door. She has been secretly crushing on him since.
AHHH!! If you haven’t read this series yet. HERE IS YOUR SIGN!! I love G.N. Wright so much and I can’t wait until I have this paperback on myself next to The Puck Secret. I will always hype up this book. It was EVERYTHING. THE SPICE. THE BANTER. THEIR CHEMSITY. It has everything you need. I CAN’T WAIT FOR THE NEXT BOOK. The ending of this book was mind blowing and will make you want the next book asap.
If you love a fake marriage where the hero is MY WIFE obsessed, Josh is your man.
The spice was always SPICING in this one (like the last one).
While I got the conflict, it didn’t seem big enough, for me, to be the main conflict. I will say that I did like the ending and the resolution. It matched the conflict, and I love this little found family they have created.
-hockey romance -suspense -best friends brother -childhood crush -unrequited love -arranged marriage
GAHHHH THESE TWO WERE PERFECTION!!! JOSH WAS SO FCKN HOT & IN LOVE WITH HIS SISTERS BESTIE!!! & HE WAS THE SWEETEST THING!!! & HALLIE WAS EXACTLYYYYY WHAT HE NEEDEDDDD!! &&&&& THE FCKN TEASERS FOR THE NEXT BOOK?!?! KILL ME NOW!!!! IDK WHY IM STILL YELLINGGGG CAUSEE IM JUST SO OBSESSEDDDD😭😭😭

“Ah ah, on your knees, Tink, crawl to me like a good little wife.”
“You heard me, wife, spit on my cock and get it nice and wet.”
“Don’t tease me, baby, not when I am already so desperate for you.”
“Look at you, turning into such a pretty little mess for me.”
“All I need is you,”
“Command me, Joshua, tell me exactly what you need from me and it's yours.”
“Do you like seeing your husband on his knees for you, Mrs Peters?”
“Fill your wife up with your cum.”
“I don’t think something fake is supposed to feel like this,” “Feel like what?” “Like I can only breathe when you are near me,”
“What do you want, baby? Tell me and I will give it to you,”
“Because you’re my everything, baby. You always have been, and I want to be yours.”
this has been one of my most anticipated books since i finished book 1 last year and it brings me so much joy to say it was every bit worth the wait 😭💚
even though i knew i was going to love josh and hallies story i had no idea how they could possibly top my love for maddie and nova….. safe to say they did x100. i loved every last bit of their story from start to finish 😭
i still need some more time to process all the feels but if you love hockey, you love smut and you love the most funny, loving and idiotic characters i cant recommend this series enough

Things to know
FMC has Autism Spectrum Disorder, sexual scenes, alcohol and drug use, forced marriage, discussion of marriage deals for children when they come of age, and political crimes, bratty FMC, friends to lovers, “my wife, “Mr. Peters”, hockey romance, marriage of convenience, forced proximity, sister’s best friend
Just like The Puck Secret, I knew that this book was going to be an immediate 5 stars for me.
GN Wright just has this way about her writing that consumes me in every fucking way possible. I’m not surprised in the least that I loved this one as much as the first. Josh Peters can wife me up ANY TIME.
I didn’t think anyone could get better than Nova Darkmore, but she said HOLD MY BEER when writing Josh, and I am NOT mad about it.
This man was completely OBSESSED with his fake wife, and I was not expecting the mouth on him. The spice was SPICIN, and I think I ruined about 3 pairs of underwear and a towel while reading it. Oops.
And the bonus scene? Let’s just say it’s a good thing my husband was home cause GOT DAMN.
If you love college hockey, marriage of convenience, touch her and ☠️ vibes where she falls first but he falls harder? Just read the damn book. K?
Book 2 in the Fairfield U series and I can’t get enough of these characters!
I loved Josh and Hallie. The things he did for her when he didn’t even realise he loved her, like researching autism so she was always comfortable was one of my favourite things about the book!
I’m salivating for Daemon and Archer’s book! For any MM lovers, make sure you read the bonus chapter because 🥵
UPDATE: the audiobook did NOT disappoint. It felt like being wrapped up in a warm hug. I love Josh + Hallie so freaking much. They truly knew the other and prioritized the others needs above their own. I’ll fully admit to being emotionally invested in this story because of Hallie’s autism representation, but I still stand by this beautiful love story. The books in the closet gets me every time. Plus the hand written notes in the margins…just 😭
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Holy AMAZEBALLS Batman. Gabby truly outdid herself. The Puck Decoy is book two in the Fairfield U series and can be read as a standalone even though the storyline begins in book one, The Puck Secret. I strongly recommend you read TPS first for the best reading experience, but as always you do you! Just let it be known TPS is a phenomenal book, so you're welcome for a 2-for-1 rec!
Hallie Sanders is such a badass FMC. I loved her sass and strength. She also happens to be the first FMC I've ever read that the author clearly states that she has autism. Gabby kindly reminds everyone at the beginning of the book that autism spectrum disorder is just that. A spectrum. No two people are alike, but Hallie being autistic is a large part of the story and warmed this autism mama's heart to no end.
Josh Peters is a man who thinks he can never have a successful relationship because his parents is all a facade. Little does Josh know that not only is he capable of being in a loving, committed relationship, but he will excel at being in one. He is that MMC you love because not only is he possessive and protective, but he is sweet and thoughtful. He is determined to change the future of his family, and nothing will stop him.
Hallie + Josh together are absolute perfection. These two met when they were 9 and 11 and formed an unbreakable bond. Their shared history allowed for some of the best banter I've ever read. At times these two had me laughing out loud and then crying multiple times. But the most important thing about this book is the feeling of pure JOY I felt from the first word to the last. I hope you'll read it and love it just as much as I did!
“Come on wife, I want to feed this wicked mouth of yours,” he grins, and I try my best to hide the elation I feel every time he calls me his wife.
It pains me to give this rating because I love Gabby and The Puck Secret was in my top 5 reads of 2023, but this just did not do it for me. 🫣
I did love Josh, and thought his possessiveness and the constant “my wife” references were on point 👌 and really salvaged this. However the plot was just lacking any true conflict or suspense.
It was a no brainer that he’d pick Hallie to “fake marry” because of their close relationship, instead of some rando. Did she need anything from the arrangement? No. So that was the first mistake. I think there should have been some skin in the game for her to make it more compelling.
Then through their “fake relationship” they were actually pretty sweet. I know this isn’t marketed as a dark romance, but neither was book 1, yet it had those undertones. This was best friends to lovers. And I hate to say I was kinda bored. 🤷🏻♀️
Coupled with the fact that it was a slow burn, if I didn’t know how good the spice would eventually be I might have DNF’d. But yeah, once it hit, it did not disappoint. That’s at least the one consistent thing I can count on. It was so freaking hot 🔥🔥🔥
The very last minute “conflict” more of a fight than a break, just didn’t make sense to me, and I felt Hallie overreacted. Luckily it was resolved in a few pages but still, was just a little too eye roll worthy. 🫤
I think it’s still worth a read to keep up with the going ons of this group, and the secondary characters were a real highlight. And this definitely piqued my interest in the next book. Can’t wait for Archer and Daemon. 😍 Gabby’s MM couples and spice are second to none. 💯
I was looking forward to Hallie and Josh’s story and was disappointed just how annoying it was. It was constant denying of each other, constant saying fake marriage, fake husband/wife. I understand she is autistic but having it said throughout the whole book, I really wanted to drop the book. Also Josh knowing she can only understand being direct, was just making it worse. I am just really looking forward to Archer/Daemons book the most. They need more good MM books in FM series .
i liked the first book in the series better, but this one was good too ! hallie is such a well rounded character, and seeing josh go from a campus playboy to a “my wife” guy, was so heartwarming to see. the story build up was great, it wasn’t just all spice - a lot of story and background and lead up to the breaking points. highly recommend to read this one !!
