Bantorus MC #1

Breathing His Air

Rate this book
She is love advice in a coffee shack, he's protection in a biker bar. When her past meets his present, it's a killer cocktail that might get them shot, stabbed, or otherwise dead.

Tori Baldwin spends all her time traveling the states, running a mobile coffee shack and handing out love advice with every cup. She’s staked her rig in the parking lot of Cactus Cove—a local biker bar by all appearances— and plans to stay put for three months. Just long enough to make some money, without making any friends, before she moves to her next destination as she tries to stay ahead of a painful past.

Rain Brookshire is the leader of the Bantorus motorcycle club, and owner of the Cactus Cove in the small town of Pitnam, Washington. He wants the Lagsturns, a rival-bad-news motorcycle club, to leave town before they infect his town with trouble.

With bullets flying and the Lagsturns putting on the pressure, the only way to keep Tori safe—since she refuses to leave town—is for Rain to claim her as his woman. She has no idea that Rain’s played his hand for all to see in the biker world. It doesn't help that Tori exhibits the three ideal classifications of his ideal woman—Classy, Sexy, and a total Goof— and he can't help but posture and lay down the law. But, when it appears Tori’s life is in danger, and the Lagsturns are innocent, he isn’t going to let the law stop him from keeping his woman safe.

I have a problem

I see the words motorcycle club, and think hot motorcycle riding hero, and my eager little finger finds that damn one-click buy button on Amazon immediately.

Well in the case of this book: Bad finger! Bad bad finger! Next time you will want to make a book buying decision for me, I’ll just tell you

This was a total dud for me. It felt like a watered down Kristen Ashley novel. I struggled through the whole book, and almost gave up at the half way mark. I was just going to cut my losses and mark it a DNF. But then my inner masochist piped in, “what if it get’s better?” “Just finish it,” it told me.

I don’t think this had one redeeming factor for me. Perhaps readers that haven’t read other books with Motorcycle Clubs might enjoy this.

I found it to be unbelievable and grating. We are supposed to believe that the hero is the leader of a Motorcycle Club that performs no illegal activity whatsoever. Nope! They are simply a club for brotherhood. Rain made his money through solid investments, and used it to open a bar, a garage, and a few other things that bring him money. How is this a Motorcycle Club? Maybe I’ve been ruined by the Motorcycle Man, Undeniable, and the Reaper’s Property but C’MON! Aside from a rivalry with another “bad” Motorcycle Club…that is all they do. Oh the other club is bad because they do illegal activities. Well…allrighty.

Tori runs a mobile coffee shack and offers free love advice along with the coffee to her customers. Seriously? Oh, but then we get this little tidbit

”I give love advice, Rain. I don’t know a thing about love or relationships.”

(sadly this was not the only oxymoron throughout this book)

Tori meets Rain after he rescues her from a rival Motorcycle Gang that is hitting on her. Then Rain, who has sworn off relationships due to being badly burned by a woman not long ago, practically declares Tori his woman the next day. But he does this to protect her.

The things that truly killed this for me?

The dialogue
”I have one last thing to say to you.”
Her eyes darkened with emotion. He peered down at her. “What?”
“You’re mean. “

“A hotel? Get real, and quick, dude.”
“What’s wrong with a hotel?”
“Um, yeah, you’re paying for it. That’s what’s wrong,” she said.
He shrugged. “Get over it”
“You get over it.” She snorted and backed away.

“What the hell?”
“You can’t tell me what to do.” She lfted the clutched rock above her shoulder and let it fly in his direction. “I’m not your woman.”
He dodged the rock. “You are.”
“No, I’m not.” She picked up another stone and threw it toward him. “And no more kissing me.”

Oh, and by the way, this is a conversation that takes place between a 36 year old man and a 24 year old woman.

The overused phrases and endearments
Reading Rain repeatedly referring to Tori as his “woman”, “goof”, or “babe” made me want to chuck my Kindle at the wall.
Then there was also Rain’s penchant for using the phrase “Damn me”.

40% in I started developing a tick every time I read it. It was so grating, I even took the time to look it up and count all the times it was used. (yes, it bothered me THAT much)

1. Rain calling Tori his woman? 74
2.The word 'goof' to describe Tori? 23 (Although at times he switched it up by lovingly referring to her as bozo)
3.Babe? 164!!!
“My woman doesn’t sleep on the couch. In the morning, I’m going to take my woman to buy some pretty clothes that’ll drive me wild and put a smile on her face, and if you go to bed like a good girl, I’ll see about kissing my woman in the morning after I cuddle with her tonight.”

“I’ll be your woman. I mean, I’ll try.” She raised her head. “Okay?” The hardness in his face smoothed away, and he touched his forehead to hers, gazing into her eyes. “You were already my woman, babe, but it’s nice to hear. Real nice.”

“I’m not leaving you alone, babe,” he whispered. “You’re my woman, and I take care of my woman.”

“I’m Rain’s new woman. Don’t you forget it again.” Without letting Crystal continue the absurd conversation, she pivoted on the heel of her boot and leisurely walked back to Rain. She wanted Rain, and she’d fight anyone to have him. “Damn me … ” Rain studied her as he helped her onto his bike. “You mean that, babe?”

I couldn’t find myself caring for any of the characters or the story. It was just too far fetched for me.

There were plently that enjoyed it. I really wished I was one of those. But alas, live and learn. Maybe readers that would be able to see past the things that grated on me will be able to enjoy this. It did have the potential and makings of a great book, but it just fell flat.

LOVED IT!!! What a fantastic read, the story line and characters blew me away!

The story starts off just after the heroine Tori parks her mobile trailer/ coffee shack in the parking lot of the Cactus Cove bar. On her walk across the parking lot to the bar to get a bite to eat, she is surrounded by several men on motorcycles who are blocking her way. Everywhere she turns to escape she is cut off by these men. Then one grabs her and pulls her onto his motorcycle and before she knows what's happening someone else nabs her from her abductor and is carrying her across the parking lot and into the bar. That someone is Rain, the leader of Bantorus motorcycle club and the owner of the bar.

This story had so many things going for it. First, Tori and Rain are very unique characters. Tori has a haunted past that keeps her moving from town to town, never staying long enough to make friends. She runs a coffee shop out of a trailer and for each person who buys a coffee, she offers free love advice. She was such an endearing character. She was just as Rain described her, sexy, classy and goofy, traits that he found VERY attractive. Rain was an excellent leader, he was in charge of the motorcycle club, which he considered his family, and did a great job. He was very protective, dominant, caring, and also gentle. He was a SEXY bad boy, who on occasion had a silver tongue in his own gruff way.

This book had some wonderful romantic elements. Some of the things Rain said to Tori literally took my breath away.

"Listen to me." He sat back down, but kept his eyes on hers. "All I can tell you is I feel different with you. I want to kick everyone's ass that looks at you or thinks about you. I want to make every day perfect for you. Yes, I want to have sex, and we will. That's a promise. What I have with you, I've never once had with another woman.

"Love is like air, babe. It's there all the time, and you don't even think about it, or you take it for granted. Then all of a sudden, you need it, or you can't breath. You inhale, and for the first time, you're aware it's keeping you alive. You fell it brush you skin all the time. Sometimes it's warm and other times it's cool, but it's there surrounding you, feeding you, holding you. When you finally realize it's love, you become vulnerable. With that new fear of not having air, you subconsciously allow someone special to breath life for you."

"If You're going to fight for what we have together, you need the strength of your own power. the good, the bad, and every once of love you can carry in the palm of you hand." He reached out and hooked her neck, bringing her closer. " I have faith in you that you'll recognize the gift you have and hold it tight. You're special, babe. I believe it. Now you need to start believing it."
"You'll make sure I don't hurt you?" Her breath mingled with his,
He blinked slowly. "You won't."
"You have to promise...."
"I do. I will." He lowered his head until their foreheads touched. "Shit. Killing me, babe."
"Don't move." She inhaled deeply. "I need your air."
You've got it babe. As long as I'm breathing, it's yours."

"You're everything good in life." He stroked the hair off of her face gently. "No one's made me cookie dough but you. That's the biggest thing anyone has done for me." He chuckled painfully. "You talk more than anyone I know, and keep me up late every night with stupid shit that I try to pretend not to care about, but I do. I want to hear everything if it has to do with you. I want you to continue testing desserts out on me, and welcoming the guys into the house, treating them like brothers, and serving them lemonade in those girly glasses you made me buy. You know, it goes against the man law to drink out of pink plastic cups, but they do it for you. Because you're you. The most giving person any of us know, and you're mine, babe. You're my Woman."

Oh My…I'm sighing again!! I'm wanted Rain all for myself!!

There was some great action, which kept the story moving and also a bit of a mystery of who was trying to get to Tori. The revelation of Tori's past was shocking, but with Rain’s help, she was finally able to put that part of her life to rest, so that she could live her life and stop running.

The love scenes where very well done, nothing too kinky, but with just the right amount of heat to keep me satisfied. The author included an excellent epilogue, giving us a look into Rain and Tori's future, along with an HEA that made me very happy!

I feel in love with this book and sincerely hope that after reading my review that you will give this wonderful book a try…you won’t regret it!

I love MC romance but I have a very very hard time finding the ones that have the perfect alpha for me. I need loyal, possessive and protective. This one had the perfect hero and I was totally captivated by the story, the romance and the brotherhood. This author proves that a MC romance doesn't have to have all of the gritty hardcore elements that others do. I think that it was the perfect balance of suspense to romance and most of all it showed the true meaning and belief of the real motorcycle clubs out there. Family, brotherhood and home.

Rain was by far everything I could have wanted and more. He was perfect for Tori as she needed a strong and bossy man just to keep her from running. They felt in each other such a strong connection that it didn't take long for the attraction to become a all consuming need that blossomed into a love that was so profound that I had tears in my eyes at the brilliance of it.

He saw through the pain and the fear and pushed her until she was pushing back and standing strong. The amazing chemistry and slow burning devotion made my heart swell and my pulse race. I was simply addicted.

I adored this family of bikers and the characters each had such vibrant personalities that I wanted to know more about each one now. There are some pretty major twists and turns and I was kept guessing the whole time. Passion, acceptance and healing. That is what filled the pages. This is one romance that has it all and I am going to be reading everything this author writes if she keeps giving me honest, true and loyal heroes and heroines that stand by them the whole way.

Tori Baldwin has settled temporarily in Pitnam, Washington until she has enough money to move onto the next town. With her fantastic coffee she serves, Tori also offers love advice with each order. Now Tori knows that some of her clients are a bit rough around the edges, especially since she is in the parking lot of the Cactus Cove which is a local biker hangout, but everyone needs words of wisdom despite who they are. Tori however is about to meet her match when President of the Bantorus MC Rain Brookshire who makes no qualms of the fact he wants her out of there. Well, initially he does until he decides she is going to be his Old Lady, now he just has to convince the little spitfire that her place is behind him. Old rivalries with another club though is putting his small town in danger and Rain has to divide his time between the MC, keeping Tori safe, and running the other MC out of town.

Very fun. Tori is a handful and has no issues standing up to Rain and in some very creative ways. I thought she was adorable, you can just imagine Rain running his hands through his hair on how to deal with Tori. If you like MC books this is a fun one.

DNF.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I am so bummed because I had really high hopes for this book but I have to stop @ 40% because I just CAN'T TAKE IT ANY MORE!!!

WTF is wrong with Tori!!! WHY does she come across/sound so juvenile?? Here I am waiting for a legitimate reason that might explain her childlike behavior (I was thinking maybe she was dropped on her head few too many times while she was a child or something along those lines) but the reason we get is her douche of a father?? Really?? I hope there is more to the story later in the book because that was just asinine and anticlimactic.

I might finish this when I finally have nothing else to read only because I want to see more Rain.

If you are in the mood for a good book with a hot biker leading man, try Motorcycle Man, Reaper's Property or Undeniable (not for the faint-hearted).

I had "compatibility issues" with this book. It was 40% ish in when I called a DNF

Now..

I know I am going to come across a total bitch by saying this but it is my opinion. Tori's "freakout's" were seriously amusing to me, they were just so over the top & unbelievable in my opinion. I could honestly not believe that she could of survived by herself if that is how she reacted in situations. I also doubt that people would not of been freaked out by her behaviour.
She was a lot of effort for a piece of ass *shrug*

Rain had recently been badly betrayed by a women but I am meant to believe that after that he would claim a women within like a day of meeting her. Even though he knew nothing about her? She could of been a plant.. she could of been married.. hell she could of been insane.. oh wait.. snap! she is totally insane.

Did I like this book no, do I think it deserved 5 stars absolutely not. I LOVED this book and the book deserves 100 stars. This book blew me away. I almost always love the hero's in my books( I take my time deciding what I should read) and I LOVED Rain(he was sigh wothy) but I also loved Tori she was funny and strong and caring and giving and thoughtful and even though she thought of herself as a curse she brought love and cheer every were she went. People flocked to her and I completely believed it from the very first page.

Tori never stays in one place because she knows she will only hurt people who she gets close with she running from her past and will keep running. One of her stops is in Pitnam were she hitches up her coffee shack and stays at a cabin behind cactus cove. One day on her way home she is surrounded by motorcycles that won't let her pass till Rain steps in and saves her.

Rain has been gone for three weeks and he comes home to a trailer hitched in his parking lot one of his cabins rented and Tori in need of his help. But he wants her gone so he goes about doing just that. To bad Tori has other plans. The more time they spend together the more they start to grow on each other till Rain claims her. But Tori does want claimed she can't get close to anyone, but Rain can and will do everything he can to break down her barriers. As Rain and Tori spend more time together it becomes clear someone is either after Rain and his motorcycle club or Tori, and Rain will keep his family and club safe but he will kill to make sure Tori is safe.

I loved this book I don't think I can say that enough, I loved the writing style, I loved Rain(yes he was HOT), I loved Tori she was hilarious, I loved every single person in this book and I loved the town. The mystery into who was causing all the problem was written really well, I can usually figure out a book pretty quickly but this one kept me guessing through the book. I hope this isn't the end I want more, no I need more. I am sad to leave Rain and Tori but more than that I'm sad to leave Pitnam. I hope we get more stories from the other characters there are so many stories to tell and in the process get to revisit with Rain and Tori so we can see how they are.

I love reading I spend time finding books I think I will like and characters I will grow to care about because I don't want to waste my time when I could be reading something else, and yet I still read books that I end up not liking or that are just ok so when I find a book like this that blows me away it's hard for me to let go and this book blew me away. I can't say enough how much I liked this journey Breathing his Air took me on.

Love is like air, babe. It's there all the time, and you don't even think about it,or you take it for granted. Then all of a sudden, you need it, or you can't breathe. You inhale, and for the first time you're aware it's keeping you alive. You feel it brush your skin all the time. Sometimes it's warm and other times it's cool, but it's there surrounding you, feeding you, holding you. When you finally realize it's love, you become vulnerable. With that new fear of not having air, you subconsciously allow someone special to breathe life for you.

I don't really believe in rating things that I did not finish but if I get through more than 50% of the book and can no longer take anymore of it then it stands to reason that the book is not good. At least IMO. So DNF just because the characters are idiotic and I cannot stomach another word coming out of their mouths. The writing isn't bad but a book can't be good if you despise the main characters.

Tori runs a coffee shack out of her trailer, moving from place to place never making any ties or having any roots. You learn about her past and why she has chosen this way of living. And while my heart when out to her, I had trouble connecting to Tori. My issue mainly with Tori is her need to fun from Rain. She is quick to anger and when she misinterprets situations she has a snit and leaves. Not something I like in my heroines.

Rain, badass biker who owns the local bar, hotel and garage comes home after a run to find Tori parked in his parking lot and setting up shop. Now while Rain is a hot, cool motorcycle dude, he also appears to be near perfect. Turns out he does nothing illegal and never had, caring, patient, sexy, generous, never lost his temper, I couldn’t understand why this guy was still single! Maybe this is just me wanting my motorcycle dudes to have some dark, grittiness to them.

Having said all of this, there was plenty I loved about this book. I loved the “make your own family” idea in the motorcycle club, strength in numbers, and we protect our own. And even though Tori got on my nerves at times, I liked how generous she was, caring and sweet. I do wish she would get rid of the lollipop!

And while the steam was on the low side in this book, there were scenes that really got to me and I loved. And this book gave me an excellent epilogue.

Overall, a satisfying read. I will read more from this author.

I DNF'd around the 40% mark.. It's too disjointed and ridiculous. It's like the author is reading the discussion threads and tried to write a book to meet everyone's desires, but you can't do that in a single book! It just doesn't work; those elements do not fit together, and the book doesn't fill in enough background/supporting details to make it work. Instead it jumps from scene to scene, feeling to feeling, and dialogue to dialogue hoping that you don't notice that each aspect is suspended in midair without connection to anything else. The author throws plot devices on a page and hopes they make a full story, but they just make a discordant mess. And there is a lack of transitions or details to bridge the different elements. Like a puzzle where the pieces have been forced together from many different pictures and where there are still missing spots.

It has a motorcycle club (MC). But not a mean one with cheaters and grit. It's an MC with a heart of gold. I don't need totally realistic MCs (in fact, I don't want them), but this one is so "nice" it's ridiculous.

The H acts and talks like a KA hero, sort of, but without the fully developed character to make him smexy, attractive, compelling, or three-dimensional.

The h is an appalling mash up of traumatized child, free spirit, match maker, love advice columnist, and brat. Her attitude jumps around like pop rocks in a puddle of coca cola.

Sorry. It just didn't work for me.

♦️WHAT DID NOT WORK FOR ME:
➖again, we have a very experienced H & a near-virgin h
➖Crystal, Crystal, Crystal! Crystal this, Crystal that. Waaay too much drama from H's ex, for the entire book. Yeah, there's no way I can read book #2 with that bitch Crystal as the h.
➖H tells Crystal, his ex at 69% that she gave good head...I don't wanna hear H say that kinda stuff to OW! At 81% he thinks that Crystal was good in bed and possessed sexy even though she lacked class.
➖book was a bit long and drawn out
➖wasn't a big fan of h. She was kinda funny & goofy at first but I was annoyed with her by the end
➖several instances of characters being referred to by the wrong name

If you like your books suspenseful, unpredictable, captivating, with a serious dose of masculine hotness, Breathing His Air is your book! Heroine Tori Baldwin is the kind of girl you want for a best friend, and she draws the readers in just as she draws in everyone else around her. Rain Brookshire is everything you could want in an Alpha male hero (who just also happens to be the leader of the Bantorus motorcycle gang - SCORE!); when he claims Tori as "his woman", author Debra Kayn makes sure the reader lives as Rain's woman vicariously through Tori. These two are awesome together, despite Tori's troubled past and Rain's trouble with the bad-news rival Lagsturns motorcycle gang. The story is one twist after another, and when Tori's life in endangered, I personally had no idea who was really out to get her or what their motive could be until the last 30 pages of the book. Breathing His Air is a masterfully crafted, action-packed, straight up fun story full of love, loyalty, humor, and realistic dialogue that really brings the characters to life. Tori and Rain will draw you in and keep you engaged to the very end - highly recommended!

I really wanted to like this - bikers, sassy women, a little bit of mystery, it should have been a no-brainer. Instead, I really struggled to finish it. The characters were 2 dimensional, the story didn't flow and it was all a bit disjointed. I just felt disappointed.

I love motorcycle club books. I can’t help it. I love it when the hero is all bossy. I love the motorcycle club culture. The politics, the aggression, the overly alpha men. I want to be someone’s “sweet butt.” What?

So when this review request came my way I gobbled it up. Overall I liked this one, although I did have some frustrations along the way. Let me set it up. Tori Baldwin has a very traumatic past and now can’t settle down. Driving into a small Oregon town one day, she decides to set up her coffee shack (which she runs out of a trailer) in the local town. Unknown to her, she has plopped herself down in prime motorcycle territory, belonging to the Bantorus motorcycle club. The majority of the members happen to be out of town when she settles, so she is not aware she has broken any rules until they arrive home. She soon meets the president of the club, Rain Brookshire. He owns bars, hotels and other real estate in town. He isn’t happy some woman has made herself at home on his land. To further frustrate him, a rival motorcycle club is riding into town and he has a bad history with them. This club deals in drugs and many other bad things (something the Bantorus club stays far away from) and his ex-girfriend screwed him over for the leader of this club. So Rain is not happy to see them coming into town. When their leader gets wind that Rain may have a new woman, he fears retaliation against Tori.

Rain is your typical motorcycle guy. He calls Tori “babe,” he is very bossy, he wears a leather vest with no shirt (is that sexy? I can’t decide). He is 36 to her 24. It doesn’t take him long to put his stamp all over her so no one else can claim her. Tori has dark secrets in her past that still haunt her today. Otherwise she is a very cheerful, somewhat naïve girl who gets dumped into an intense culture. She becomes a quick favorite with the guys as she serves them coffee and hands out free love advice. I wish they hadn’t fallen for each other quite so quickly, it seemed really abrupt. But Rain probably wouldn’t have had it any other way.

Overall this book has a good pace, action, and tons of bossy words that come out of Rain’s mouth. I liked it. But like I said, it’s not perfect. One of my frustrations is that I don’t think we really get to know the Bantorus culture all that well. We don’t get to see a lot of Rain with his men, without Tori there. I wanted to see more of the daily workings of the club. That is one of my favorite parts while reading these books.I also thought the threat from the rival motorcycle club felt weak, because again, although they are in town, we really don’t get to see them until late in the book.

Tori and Rain and have a lot of back and forth in this one. They don’t’ really trust each other at first, which I liked, but Tori threatening to leave every other chapter did get a bit old. She has bouts of immaturity. I also think the sex scenes could have been a little more drawn out. They seemed to go by quite quickly. They have good sexual banter out of the bedroom, but it seemed rushed once we got to the nakey parts.

But, even with those things, I still liked this book and I think fans of motorcycle books would like it for the most part too.

Quick note: This author has a new series coming out this summer, The Hard Body Series. Keeping my eye on it for sure.

It has been a while since a book as so thoroughly captured my attention that I seriously couldn't stop reading it. I even caught myself wanting to turn the page because I had to know what happened and trying to turn it ahead of time just to make sure that everything was ok. Luckily my will power was strong and I never jumped ahead, so that I could savor every page. Breathing His Air stole my heart almost from page one and kept my attention all the way to the end. I waited a few days to write this review because I felt like my emotions were flying high and I wanted to see just how I felt a couple of days later. I LOVE this book, I found myself going back through the book, looking for certain passages that I just had to read again. Kayn did an excellent job of keeping me on my toes while I read the book, not really knowing what might happen next. There were a couple of parts that were predictable, but that didn't matter and definitely didn't detract from the book. I felt like I rode an emotional roller coaster with Rain and Tori juggling from being happy when they were happy and being afraid for them when danger happened. I have to admit that I was a little reluctant to read this book, but after reading two other books by Kayn first, I felt comfortable with her writing style and wanted to read more. ......Then Kayn threw me for a loop with this book. It was a wild ride that I totally didn't see coming. It was not the sweet romance of her previous 2 books I read, but a grittier, edgier book. I couldn't have been more surprised, and it was fantastic surprise! The characters are very realistic. I came away with new perspective on what love is and I definitely let go of some preconceived notions of the "Biker" life. While I still don't plan on getting on a bike.......I wouldn't mind finding a man like Rain to call me his Woman! It has been four days and I am still thinking about Rain,
Tori and all the other characters. Even though Debra Kayn does a nice job of wrapping up the book, and its characters, I still wanted more and there were some people that I wanted to know more about. That is not only a sign of a good book in my opinion, but a GREAT book!

If you love those bad boy, uber-Alpha heroes, stop what you're doing right now - including reading this review! - and get yourself a copy of Breathing His Air by Debra Kayn.

Rain Brookshire is the most interesting romance hero I've ever come across. As the leader of a motorcycle club he's tough, determined, and more than able to protect and defend his brotherhood and what's his. And when Tori Baldwin becomes his after a rival club that's up to no good threatens her right under his nose, Rain's protective nature kicks into high gear. But that's not what makes him interesting.

What makes Rain interesting is how he deals with the ghosts from Tori's turbulent past that haunt her and keep her from accepting happiness. What's really refreshing is that those ghosts don't disappear overnight just because Rain loves her. Kudos to Debra Kayn for resisting the "Oh, he loves me so everything is suddenly all right" pat plot device. Tori's scars are deep, and it takes time for her to overcome her inner demons. Rain gives her the time she needs and continues to show her over and over again that he'll protect her and stay with her, even when she insists on ignoring the danger she's in. The man has the patience of a saint. Not to mention the sexual prowess of a god! Rain and Tori together are beyond hot!

Debra Kayn takes the reader inside the close-knit, loving brotherhood of a motorcycle club and lets us see the people behind the leathers. Told with unflinching honesty and insight, Breathing His Air blows apart the stereotypical assumptions about bikers and their women, and with a twist you won't see coming, it'll keep you turning the pages!

(I was given an ARC of the book in exchange for an honest review.)

2nd reading: This was one of the first MC books/series I read, and I enjoyed it the second time around as well. It's not a 1% club although it gets darker with the 2nd generation part of the series. Sweet and sassy is probably how I'd describe it today.

1st reading:I really enjoyed this book! Yes, it wasn't as rough and tough and dirty as many of the other MC books out there, but it had a MC with hot guys and lots of heart. The writing was wonderful, and the book was so much better edited than most MC books. Up til around 40%, the storyline and character development took precedence. After that, the relationship really heated up, and I thoroughly enjoyed the interplay between the leads. I was reminded of the writing style of Kristen Ashley, and I will definitely be reading the next book about Sanchez. In fact, I have already purchased it.

Tori Baldwin moves from place to place, never getting close to anyone or forming any lasting relationships. She randomly ends up stopping in the biker town of Pitnam, Oregon, and decides to set up her mobile coffee shack for a few months before moving on. Tori quickly becomes the talk of the town, know for her compassion and the free love advice she gives with each cup of coffee. Tori's coffee shack is parked in the parking lot of Cactus Cove, a biker bar owned by Rain, the leader of the Bantorus bikers. Although they initially bump heads, Tori and Rain have an intense attraction to each other and the deal is sealed when Tori brings Rain cookie dough. Rain is drawn to Tori's quirkiness and her uncanny ability to bring people together and give unusually perceptive advice. Despite their growing affection, Tori is hiding secrets from a traumatic past, and Rain is determined to find out what she is hiding.

In the meantime, things are heating up in Pitnam when a rival biker gang, the Langsturns, come to town and decide to stay for a while. Rain claims Tori as his woman in order to protect her from the Lagsturns, but his motives go beyond protection when he notices that she is classy, sexy and a total goof - the three traits that he has always imagined that his perfect woman would possess. When random and dangerous events start happening, Rain fears that the Lagsturns are trying to start a war. Interestingly enough, Rain realizes that Tori seems to be the target of these mysterious attacks. He vows to find out why and protect Tori at all costs.

This was a biker book that was light on the biker and heavy on the romance. As I was reading, I felt like I was reading a Kristen Ashley novel. The dialogue, alpha male, kidnapping and epilogue had a similar KA feel, but the length was shorter than a KA and the secondary characters weren't as developed as KA makes them.

What I liked:

Alpha male hero
Bikers...
Tori's love advice
elements of mystery

What could have been improved:

The hero (Rain) was a bit soft for a biker. In other words, this isn't Deuce from Undeniable. Although Rain has the bossy alpha male thing down, he's pretty straight laced and does not fully embody what comes to mind when you think of the leader of a motorcycle club. I would say he is a reformed biker, or better yet the Robin Hood of bikers.

The character descriptions were off. There were several errors where the name of a character was mixed up with a different character. This made things confusing, and I often had to reread sentences to make sense of the dialogue and realize there was a mixup. Also, I never got a feel for what any of the characters looked like. I have no idea what color of eyes Rain had. In one part of the book, Tori has eyes the color of bourbon, and in another part of the book she has blue eyes. As for the other characters, no clue. This made it difficult to visualize the characters, which I like to do.

As I mentioned, there were elements of mystery, but nothing that kept you on the edge of your seat. I like a buildup of suspense and mystery, and this one had a few moments, but the big reveal fell a little flat for me. I'm not a big fan of everything happening in the last 10% of the book. I think mystery should be done well or not at all. I like twists and turns, and I think the author attempted to throw in a few surprises, but they only made other parts of the story make less sense. When the big moment arrives, it doesn't last long and I couldn't fully appreciate it. It didn't evoke any real emotion or make me feel like I was in the story.

This is not a hardcore biker book, but if you are looking for romance and a HEA, you'll find it here.

Book Blurb:
She is love advice in a coffee shack, he's protection in a biker bar. When her past meets his present, it's a killer cocktail that might get them shot, stabbed, or otherwise dead. Tori Baldwin spends all her time traveling the states, running a mobile coffee shack, and handing out love advice with every cup. She’s staked her rig in the parking lot of Cactus Cove - a local biker bar by all appearances - and plans to stay put for three months. With bullets flying and the Lagsturns putting on the pressure, the only way to keep Tori safe - since she refuses to leave town - is for Rain to claim her as his woman. She has no idea that Rain’s played his hand for all to see in the biker world. It doesn't help that Tori exhibits the three ideal classifications of his ideal woman - Classy, Sexy, and a total Goof - and he can't help but posture and lay down the law. But, when it appears Tori’s life is in danger, and the Lagsturns are innocent, he isn’t going to let the law stop him from keeping his woman safe.
My Review:
Honest to goodness, this book sat on my Kindle for weeks. Despite its repeated good reviews and being told over and over to read this book, I just didn’t. That made me a fool. Tori was a fun, albeit quirky character who doesn’t even realize her appeal. She tames bikers and their women, waitresses and bar owners. There didn’t seem to be anyone she didn’t charm. I liked her immensely, but even more so after I realized the trauma she suffered as a child. While I admit to being annoyed with her in the beginning, once I was privy to what happened to her I was amazed that she turned out as well as she did. She wasn’t a perfect heroine, but she was a real one and that made me like her even more. And Tori’s perfect hero? Rain!!! GAH!!! That man was smoking hot and irresistible on so many levels. Possessive, protective, loving, caring, sexy….the list goes on. He was everything you could want in a hero. Not only did he fight for her, he fought beside her, letting her realize he was there for it all and would not fail her. Tori seemed to be her own biggest enemy and Rain tempered that with love and unfailing loyalty. No other woman even entered his mind once Tori became a part of his life. When Rain realized Tori was in danger all bets were off the table. No one was coming between Tori and Rain. If you throw in the fact that Rain is the leader of a biker gang, abhors drugs, and helps out in his community and he becomes the perfect man.

I prefer my books on the naughtier side, my sex a little more detailed and frequent. Aside from that, this book had everything I want in a book; great characters, suspense, an easy to understand plot, and a happy ending. Unless the author decided to go back and make the sex scenes more frequent and graphic, there isn’t a single thing about this book I would change. I give it 4.5 of 5 stars and would recommend this book to anyone who was looking for a sweet romantic suspense. I am hoping and keeping my fingers crossed that we see Sanchez get his own story too.

I really wanted to be into this book; 100% gone with the wind in love with this book. When I picked it up I thought I would spit it out in 36 hours. Unfortunately, that was not the case and it took me an entire week to read through it. As far as biker romance goes with the growing selection out there, your definitely in for a softer ride with Breathing His Air and the Bantorous MC. I found everything to be toned down a notch from the Biker Romance I normally read. I'm used to graphic sex and graphic violence and a story that holds you by the throat. I don't feel I got that here. The sex scenes were your basic romance style with none of the nasty language one comes to expect out of these foul mouthed genre of men and the violence that us always associated with an MC was very mild. What I did get was a very cute romance between two people fighting to be together but for very mundane reasons.

Starting with the two lead characters, Rain and Tori. Tori's back story is anything but mundane and she reacts throughout the story the way you would expect a woman who had a difficult childhood to react ego is still struggling with PTSD. Her kind hearted spirit is really the focus if this novel and is fun loving and an easy read. However, in my opinion, she didn't inspire a lot of heart pounding scenes until at least 70% of the way through. At times when she's discovering more and more about Rain I wanted to reach in and smack her for some of the overly dramatic ways her mind was trying to put things further. She would take two puzzle pieces that clearly had nothing to do with one another and force them into the same slot.

Rain was my biggest let down. I kept waiting and waiting, hoping he would let that dominant alpha male personality lose, but it just never came. The only thing that made him the leader was his money and wanting the community to be one. It is briefly touched upon how he got to where he is, but I felt it was glossed over, as though the author didn't really know how he came to be so she just thought of something quick to write out in one chapter and kept it moving going. I was unable to find out how Rain came to be president, who came before him or what position he held in the club prior to being they're leader. I Kept waiting for his cool demeanor to disappear and see the REAL MC president  alpha male come out, but even when $h*! hits the fan, his level of anger and protection were not what I want out of a Biker president.

I am, however, very excited for the following books because the one thing I did like about this book was all the side characters you got to meet. There is definitely huge potential for a variety of personality types in this MC and I'm hoping Kayn writes her way through the mass of potential she has. This was a sappy love story from the get go. Ok fine. Next time give me something a little edgier and then after that a little dirtier. This was a nice base line for the start of an MC series that currently has no end in sight. I'm definitely not turned off from the series, but I need more in the future to retain interest.

I would definitely recommend this book to those interested in a more light hearted MC. While Tori has a dark past, the main story is a very light, fun read and not overly serious. It was a nice romance and for that I'll give it 3.5 stars.

I was provided a free copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

AWESOME!
I had a hard time putting this book down. Staying up til 1 am when I had to get up at 4. LOL. Debra keeps you spell bound.

Tori is on the run. She has things from her past that just keep her moving on. She doesn't like to make long term relationships.

Rain is a Biker Gang Boss. He tries to keep everyone in his territory safe. He doesn't need a small opinionated woman in his life.

Tori owns a coffee shop on wheels and traveles the country, staying about 3 months in each destination. She comes through Pitnam to get gas, and finds a place to park her trailer for the summer.
Rain is out of town and knows nothing of what is going on, til he finds Tori in his parking lot. He doesn't want her there. She doesn't want to leave. A chance encounter with a rival motorcycle gang brings the two together. As time passes, and someone keeps threatening Tori, Rain gets closer and closer to the troublesome woman.

I loved this book, as I said, it was so hard to put down. There is alot of emotion in this great new biker romance by Debra Kayn. There is suspence as you try to figure out who could be behind all the scare tactics that are sent out.
Rain is posative it is the rival gang boss.
You will enjoy this fantastic romance. And the HEA!!! I love when authors tell how things progress down the years.
Thanks Deb for an awesome read!

“Love is like air, babe. It’s there all the time, and you don’t even think about it, or you take it for granted. Then all of a sudden, you need it, or you can’t breathe. You inhale, and for the first time, you’re aware it’s keeping you alive. You feel it brush your skin all the time. Sometimes it’s warm and other times it’s cool, but it’s there surrounding you, feeding you, holding you. When you finally realize it’s love, you become vulnerable. With that new fear of not having air, you subconsciously allow someone special to breathe life for you.”
She blinked. A tear rolled down her cheek. “This is love,” she whispered.
“Yeah, baby, this is love,” he whispered back.”

My quick breakdown:Liked the hero a lot. He's alpha, bossy but extremely caring. Heroine kept running to the point I was annoyed. The "action" parts were okay, nothing outrageous. Club background/culture was lacking. Averages up to a like.

I didn't love this one. I love MC books, but this one didn't really feel like an MC book.

Rain is great guy, very sweet and good to Tori. I just like my Motorcycle Man to be a little rougher. I think there is a happy medium, but this felt like this one was on the very SOFT side. I am not sure if I would have loved it more if I hadn't been expecting an MC book, but since that expectation was there it was hard to get into.

Tori runs a mobile coffee shack and gives out love advice. I felt like the love advice was always cheesy. "Love Advice is free with any order"

Rain was the MC President and owned the bar where Tori's mobile store was parked. Boy meets girl, girl think she isn't good enough, boy convinces girl she is..insert minimal drama and BAM - that is it in a nut shell.

I just needed more. I guess they all can't all be winners!
