This was a fantastic read. I am still struggling with my closet but this has given me some perspective. I have typically tried to 'blend in' and play down my feminine attributes but this book has me embracing them! I no longer want to adopts masculine mannerisms to feel equal to men in the business world- I'm woman hear me roar! And I will note that I tried the basic french recipe and wow the family ate two loaves and wanted more! It's a weekly if not a daily staple - I'm lazy, I made it in the bread machine lol

I like Anne Barone's ideas and they work if you can devote the time to them. You could get any of her books and receive the same message, however, I don't think I can recommend all of them because they seem cut and paste from the initial book with very little new.

This is mostly just a repetition of what she says in her first book. Plus, it’s full of inconsistencies and offensive statements. First she says the French don’t eat hors d’oeuvres, then she says they do. She said the French never snack in between meals, then says they have 5 o’clock tea which is a full meal, before they eat dinner at eight or 9 o’clock. She also says that one way to keep themselves slim is that they farmed out all the lower income people to the suburbs and they only hang around other rich people. Also, she keeps emphasizing how French women only care about pleasing men. Not only is this sexist and ridiculous, but apparently she’s never met a gay woman in France.
This book does not make the French look very good.

i read this book kind of as a joke but it ended up having some good tips on how to dress well no matter your budget and stay organized. It also includes good advice on weight loss that isn’t just “eat less calories” and stuff like that (although it is more of health advice that does not necessarily have to be aimed at weight loss) . However, the book is outdated and there is too many typos to count. I also hated how in her writing she has this subtle sense of superiority to overweight women. She portrays french woman as being superior to american women in every way which i found very unnecessary

Quick easy read and very sensible, positive messages. Enjoyed it thoroughly. I especially liked the interesting comparisons between French and American cultural norms. Fascinating.

I enjoy her books, though I feel she can be a little harsh aboutAmerican and Canadian men. I personally like it when men take pride in fixing their home or yard. Her tips on food and everything to do with living a french life are good and help to create personal happiness and permission to be feminine.

I have a real fondness for this series. I first began reading this series well over 15 years ago, around the time of my first trip to Paris. At this time there were not many books available telling us how the French women lived. Now, they are entire sections at your bookstore, but back then it was harder to find this information.
Anne Barone's books really kindled my love affair for the French way of living, and while there are many books available now that I enjoy immensely, this series will always have a special place in my heart. I periodically pick up the books and reread them because they take me back to that time in my life when I was first discovering France.

A precursor to French Women Don't Get Fat... covers a lot of the same ground. All very sensible approaches to eating and enjoying a pleasure-filled life.
