College is supposed to be a magical experience, a time of self-exploration and discovery. For Crystal and her friends, Ryan and Kelly, this couldn't be closer to the truth. Crystal, the geeky girl on a scholarship, Ryan, the rich entitled kid who feels he is misunderstood, and Kelly who is looking for love in all the wrong places... These three friends will take you on an exciting trip as they encounter situations they never dreamed possible. Mystery men, betrayal, relationships, and steamy sex. All this and more await you in this first book of a trilogy by Becca Lee Nyx.
A Native American from Oklahoma, Becca Lee Nyx is the author of Swept and Secrets the first two books in the Swept Saga. After marrying her best friend and having two kids; Becca decided to go after her life-long dream: writing. When Becca isn’t writing she’s studying for her bachelor’s degree in English, cruising the internet, doing the house-wife-mom-thing, or reading a good book.
Swept is the story of three high school friends, Crystal, Ryan, and Kelly, going off to college together and their experiences therein. Focusing mainly on Crystal, the story is told in varying viewpoints going between her, Ryan, and the mysterious Gabriel. The storyline itself is a lot of fun with all the adventures of being on your own for the very first time.
I think this book has a lot of potential to be great, but I felt like it was missing some key elements. I would have loved to have more of the story and less of the random sex. Don't get me wrong, the sex scenes were amazingly hot, but they didn't seem to fit well into the story. If they would have been integrated as part of the storyline rather than having the story built around them, it would have flowed easier and fit better overall.
I also would have loved to have more background or insight on the characters. It was really hard for me to connect with them, and there were too many personality inconsistencies to make getting to know them possible. For example, in the beginning of the story Crystal is portrayed as the geeky, innocent, kind of the "good girl" of the group. Yet a few chapters later she is having sex with everyone and their roommate as well as making plans to string along two guys she doesn't want to have to choose between, neither of which she is in love with. There was no transition from the beginning Crystal to the end Crystal.
Overall, like I said there is a lot of potential in this story, and I think it could be great. It is a relatively short story, so elements could easily be added to it in order to flesh out the characters more and give them sustenance without making the story overly long.
I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Um ok.... I'm not really even sure how to review this book. I wanted to like this book, I really did. It started off decent enough and then just took a massive nosedive. There was a very small amount of character development and even the sex scenes were a little MEH (or in my case a lot of eye rolling). The ending was so blah, I felt nothing when it ended except for "hmmm what do I read next"
When the whole E+C+G debacle happened I was like.....
Then the K+R crap....
And of course the R+C+G
After all that all I could think about all these characters were...."welp, someone is gonna get the Clap"
Crystal said it best...... "I may be selfish and this may make me a low down dirty lying slut, but I don't care." Yes honey you are definitely that. This quote was the only reason I bumped the rating up to 2 stars....at least she knows what she is. LOL
Holy shit!! I can actually say for the first time EVER that I am lost for words..lol..And I don't know if that is a good thing or not..Those of you who have read this will know exactly what I am talking about..Just one warning if you are a prude please by pass this book, it's sexual overload!! I thought I was just going to be lost in a fluffy Y/A college read, but bugger me that's not what you get..lol This read is very similar to Torn (Torn #1) by K.A. Robinson but on a smuttier scale..
...O MY GOD, I dont know what to say or what not to say so I will say this I LOVED THIS BOOK AND HATED IT AT THE SAME TIME(Yes I am screaming in my head while I write this LOL) I AM SO TORN I CAN NOT BELIEVE THIS BOOK WAS THIS GOOD Ok so to start you have 3 friends who all decide to attend the same college. You have Crystal, Kelly and Ryan. Then you have Emily and Gabriel who enter in once they get to the university.
The plot Ryan is in love with Crystal, but is screwing Kelly(Kelly is digging Ryan but is cool with the friends with benefits because she knows Ryan is in love with Crystal not her) Crystal loves her best friends and is so glad to have them and for them all being in the same school- Crystal has not told them the reason she picked this school is heavily based on Gabriel(a guy she saw and talked to when she was touring the school)Gabriel is super Hot and she is so taken with him just upon meeting him and talking very briefly.Emily is Crystal's roommate and one night she asks Crystal to answer the door and GUESS WHO IT IS... Gabriel OMG
They keep it very friendly and respectful until one night Crystal comes home and finds Gabriel and Emily on the couch topless, she apologizes and turns to leave but Gab stops her and gets her to come back to the room, And Guess what happens when they are in the room A THREESOME with GABRIEL EMILY AND CRYSTAL OMG I SWEAR CRAZY LOL, after the very interesting very HOT described threesome LOL Gabriel decides he wants to end things with Emily and get with Crystal, Now comes another twist O BOY Ryan declares his love and she is totally confused and get what happens between Gabriel, Ryan and Crystal O MY GOD ANOTHER THREESOME O BOY I SWEAR IT WAS SO HOT lol
Crystal is totally confused but very sated and sleepy :) Ryan cant believe what has happened since he was declaring his love for her and wanted just her, he leaves and tells her to call him in the morning. She does and then she goes to his room to talk to him but guess what happens RYAN TOTALLY BECOMES A DOMINATE MALE AND TAKES CHARGE IN A VERY HOT HOT WAY (fan needed) Ryan tells her after they have finished that she needs to pick and choose. She understands and feels like she needs to be with Ryan because he keeps her grounded and she feels like Gabriel gets her to act so completely out of character that she is scared.
Can you believe that this ends in a CLIFFHANGER ... I NEED THE NEXT PART OMG I would recommend this to all my fellow readers and reviewers this was well worth it and it was HOT.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
The book is about three friends Crystal, Ryan and Kelly, who start college together and experience all kind of things.
I hate to write a negative review, but i got this book to write an honest review so here it is. This review may have SPOILERS, so you've been warned!
I really thought that the book was just all about sex, sex and more sex. I mean first the threesome with Gabriel and his girlfriend and then after Crystal goes on a date with Ryan, with him and Gabriel? What's up with that?
While were on the subject of Ryan.. Seriously, what is up with that dude? He says he loves Crystal, but goes around and has sex with her best friend (Kelly) and then when Crystal comes by at the end of the book, it's like he's a different person altogether. He goes form a sweet guy to one who treats Crystal like a whore.. O.o Talking about a bipolar character..
And well Crystal does not know who she wants so she desides she can have both of them? I think my respect for Bella from Twilight just grew a little :/
All in all, I just think this was not my kind of book, but maybe someone else would like it :)
This was a great read both hot and sexy! I like how the characters are developing and I can't wait to read more about Crystal and her men! I'm so team Gabriel!
wow! it has been a long time since i finshed a book in less than 3 hours. i thought this book was going to be a romantic experience about college, but i was totally wrong.
this book takes turns in the view of 3 people, gabriel, ryan, and crystal. as i am reading this book i am turned between the two guys. Now after finshing the book i am no longer torn. i will not ruin this book by telling you why i am torn. I am dissappointed about ryan and i hope he can make up for himself in the second book. Gabriel on the other hand has my heart right now, but something about him if off and i hope what i am feeling is said in the second book also.
crystal is a girl who had little in life. she never knew her father and her mother had to work 2 jobs. her mother was never home, anc crystal knew one thing for sure. she was not going to following in her mother's footsteps. Crystal was lucky enough to have good grades and got a scholarship to any school of her choosing. crystal made her two friends tag along with her to look at schools. ryan and kelly decided that whatever school crystal chooses will the be the one that they go to. crystal was dead set on a good school and always had a plan which she kept to. crystal knew she was a nerd and didn't care about it. while looking at bates college she had her flyer blow away and she was chasing and it stopped under a guy with a skateboard. crystal thought that guy was the sexiest thing on earth. crystal then decided she was going to go to that school because of that guy. crystal has one problem. the guy of her dream name is gabriel and he is dating crystal's roomate. on top of feeloing like her life is being crashed down her best friend ryan throws in a life changing issue in front of her. now will crystal be able to juggle all her problems and still go head and do good in college or will the stress send her back to her mom and having to follow the same footsteps. or will she be greedy and keep both men to herself.
ryan is the boy next door who is madly in love with crystal. he never told her the he likes her. they have been friends since grade school and his family treated her like part of the family. his family even helped her get the scholarship that she needed. ryan's dad is a big hot shot lawyer and his mother helps recovering addicts. there family is rich and ryan can get out of any trouble he wants based on who his dad knows. ryan got himself arrested for letting himself get drunk and make a bad decision. his dad gets him out but makes him go home. after seeing his mom fall down the stairs and almost die he promises his mom that he will finally tell crystal how he feels. now being selfish he sees her with another man. ryan feels if she doesn't want to be with him the he is leaving her life for good. will is harsh decision making leave him alone and living like his dad or will he man up and do what he thinks is right.
now gabriel is coming from nothing. his dad is an drunk and his mom looks the other way. after losing his mentor to a accident he decides he is going to do the same thing. it starts helping other little kids like him and help them change there life. he is dating one of the sisters of the boys he mentors and she is very exciting in the bedroom always has something knew planned and he liked it. the only problem is that he thinks there love is based on sex. he was something more. he never was able to tell her about his life and wanted badly to share this with someone. that was until he met his girlfriends roomate crystal. she was the girl that he saw and couldnt stop thinking about her after that. gabriel kissed crystal and now everything is going to change. he knows that he loves her but doesnt want to push her so he is going to sit back and wait. he would do anything just to be with her.
i got this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. i honestly cant wait to buy the second book so i hope i dont have to wait long!! it was a great writting style and can't wait to read more from this author!
After reading the synopsis, I really wanted to enjoy this book. I felt that the random sex/sexting threw a potentionaly great story off on a tangent.
What did I like about Swept? I really liked the idea of the story. A group of 18 year old college freshmen finding themselves. I liked that Crystal, Ryan, and Kelly had obvious secrets amongst their friendship that could tear them apart (aka one complicated love triangle). The three of them with Gabriel and Emily could make a very interesting (and raunchy) series. I also liked some of the character's personalities and how they played off each other. Crystal's the bookworm that keeps the three of them together. Kelly is the party girl. And Ryan is the boy next door. The three of them have their own niche in the friendship. I also appreciated the fact that the author wrote in the POV of each character (minus Kelly). That gave me a more in depth look into the actions of that character. I'd like to see Kelly's POV in the next book because there is something going on with her.
What didn't I like? I didn't like how the character's actions contridicted with their personalities and inner dialogue. Yes, they are supposed to be finding out about themselves, but Crystal going from very little experience with sex to having threesomes in a matter of weeks seemed a bit far fetched. With Gabriel, I didn't like how he says he has to break up with Emily one minute, but yet jumps her in the following scene. The sex scenes were hot, but like others said, they were random. I also felt the story was short for the amount of information that was given to the reader. If it had been longer, I think the story would have flowed smoother and the sex would haven't seemed as random.
Overall, the potential is there for a fantastic series with the love triangles between the characters.
There were two reasons I thought this book would be bad.. 1. I have been in a reading rut lately and I have had a hard time liking any of the books that I have picked up and 2. The review does not do it justice at all. For the first time in a while I am at a loss for words of how much I liked the book. Not because of the steamy sex scenes but, because of the storyline. I loved the characters (ALL OF THEM) they actually reminded me of some of my high school buddies and some of the experiences that I have seen them encounter I was Crystal and even broke up with a long time boyfriend to date my best friend (it lasted for exactly 42 minutes but felt like I was with my brother) and no long hot steamy sex scenes. I loved this book .. if you want a good quick read try this one out you will be surprised. I did not like the ending at all but, hey isn't it supposed to make me want to read the next book in the series.
One thing I have to say is this is very different. Jam packed and full of sex and even a touch addictive. Various POV switches, but the author did them all in a way that’s pretty easy to follow. I would recommend this to anyone that is a fan of the genre.
Crystal and her friends Ryan and Kelly are off to start their college adventure. So much changes within a few moments of them being enrolled and starting their first days of college. EVERYONE has secrets, some rather shocking. Others disappointing. Relationships bloom & begin while others dwindle and become no more. Quite a roller coaster ride in some cases and many decisions need to be made by Crystal. I just hope they are the right ones! I know I’m ream Gabriel all the way :)
There’s a lot going on and I felt too many ends were left hanging. But it’s still a great read and I look forward to seeing where the author will take us next!
I got this book from the author for an honest review…
WHAT?! Did that really just happen?! NO words…. RYAN? Really?
Ok…I am not the person to read a smut book or a romance book, but since I promised my sister I would read this since she was in love with it I did.
I am glad I did.
But……. The ending did not do anything for me… Really… going on a date with Ryan and then BAM 3some with Ryan and Gab? I just thought the ending was rushed. I really hate Ryan But I am interested enough to want to read the second book.
Not a big fan of the main character though…. I rather read about Kelly.
I picked this book up last night as a treat to myself for a hard week and boy was I pleased!! It's a fluffy read but it also has some depth. The characters are ones you can relate to and want to know more about. And oh boy don't even get me started on the sex scenes!! My hubby was a happy man when he came home last night!
The only thing is I wish the book ended on a different note. I get that it is a trilogy but it seems so long til June! I will be looking forward to the next book! I cant wait to see how it all plays out!
This shows you what really goes on at college behind closed doors. Crystal was always the shy one, but when she starts college she discovers how adventurous she can really be. A problem develops when she is torn between two very different men. They want her to choose, but who will she pick and will it be the right choice? When you read this, have a fan blowing on you because the sex is hot! This is not your typical romance. The characters are likable but conflicted. It has all the ingredients for an enjoyable read.
I liked the book. I thought it could have used a little more time in the story. A lot happened over the course of just a couple weeks. I thought the sex scenes were very well detailed and hot! ;) The plot of the story was a little slow and I wasn't invested in it much, but 2/3 of the way through I found myself wondering what was going to happen next. I'll read the next one!
Well, I didn't see all that coming... And never thought that I would say that I do NOT want the old friend/love to be in the picture at all anymore. Hmmm...
Not the best written story but I have to say that the scenes were pretty hot in it. I am intrigued enough to get the next story, I think.
wow this book is all kinds of twisted but I like twisted nd I'm kidda excited to see where it goes next ... I guess u can classify a person one way but when u put sex into the equation a person who u thought acted one was is a closeted person In another way just trying to find the middle between both .
I give this 3.5 stars. While the threesome sex scenes were hot the whole I've loved you more than a friend all my life is just a bit annoying. Ryan wants Crystal on his terms but he is screwing their other friend along the way. Gabriel and Crystal have a spark but he won't push Crystal to decide between the two men. Reminds me of a Twilight plot
Really interesting read. I was intrigued the entire book. Crystal is our heroine and she is a little innocent and a lot crazy for Gabriel. Ryan is Crystal's best friend who is madly in love with her. Yup this us gonna get messy and very HOT before we are done. I liked this book but found it to be a bit all over the place. 4 out of 5 stars :)
Talk about sexual overload!! Jeez! It's a good story, maybe a little rushed. If you don't like graphic sex and lots of it you shouldn't read this book but if you do then by all means enjoy the ride!
I've discovered that I'm supposed to say something about my book other than rating it. I gave myself 5 stars for this. The reason you may ask? This is the FIRST book I've written that I've actually completed. I started writing this book the middle of February 2013, almost a year ago now. I decided I was going to put myself out there and see where my writing venture would take me. I finished writing Swept in 2-3 weeks, then I worked on editing and revisions. I re-wrote parts of the story four times, some handwritten and eventually typed and others on the computer, although it caused a lot of eye strain. What you have before you is the final copy after a month and a week of solid labor. I learned that I actually did have the work ethic to stick through to the end and felt accomplished. So I gave myself five stars for endurance. Coming back to this book almost a year later, I'm happy I wrote it and put myself out there. Love it or hate it I'm glad you all have read and shared an opinion. I have many more stories to tell so hang with me and I promise they will get better. As for the story line in this one, it isn't bad but it's not the absolute best. I like Crystal, Gabriel, and even Ryan. In the following three books to come I hope to further the characters development and give you something entertaining, which is the purpose of this story, solely to entertain and I think it has done that.
I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
After reading the synopsis for this book, I was so sure I was going to love it. It had the makings of a wonderfully dramatic teen series - like 90210 for a bookworm. And goodness, the book started off promising - *a good range of characters (including old favourites bookworm and player) *a promising new setting (university) where social status, relationships and personal identity can all be shaken, stirred and change irrevocably while still proving entertaining for a captivated audience. But alas that is where the promise died. A connoisseur of characterisation, I love a degree of realism to the people on the pages in front of me. And it was looking so good until, characters (ahem, Crystal) began doing things which did not match their initial characterisation . This would have been fine because like in reality, first impressions of characters can be misleading but the aforementioned characters also did things which were significantly incongruous with their internal monologues. I would have been perfectly alright with the books numerous incidents of sexting and ménage (or straight forward sex), if the characters themselves weren't so awkward about anything remotely primal.
The writer clearly has the mind of one in her profession - the basic plot line was a good one. And I am sure that one day I will read a Nyx book which I will recommend whole heartedly, however, it is not this one.
With college begins a new adventure and choosing a college because of a boy is crazy. Especially when you don't even know him. Not even his name, but that doesn't stop her from fantasying about him. She was truly swept away by him. She really is a smart girl regardless of why she choose this school. When Crystal finds the man who has been giving her wet dreams. Her happiness does not last long, because he is dating her roommate. The attraction is undeniable. Even his girlfriend sees it. But Crystal is willing to do things she never thought she would.
Gabriel is a total sweetheart. Very lovable and selfless.
I was not surprised by Ryan's admission. I was more appalled by they way Kelly let herself be treated.
Becca gave us multiple POV's which I always enjoy. You get to see why the characters act like they do. The characters, sometimes act a bit young for being in college. It did have some steamy scenes.
Surprises lots of them. Crystal, Ryan and Kelly were all suppose to be best friends. Although it did not include secrets between the three.
I did not like the story, first she is calm, she does not go to parties and those things, second she speaks not very well of her mother, third wants her friends to do what she wants, fourth chooses a school just because she saw to someone who called her attention, fifth just by seeing him she already says she wants him to do things to her and how will he be in private, sixth if something happened to her at a party at least she would have talked to someone, seventh suddenly she is an expert in sex, and without hesitation she accepts the threesome with emily, and then one with gabe and ryan, and to finish she gets upset because ryan got jealous, but to do other things with gabe she doesn't even care about her supposed friend and it's not that ryan is a little angel, and less with that ending I don't know if I'll read the other book
I really wanted to read this book when I saw the synopsis and was very excited when it came out. I was therefore a little gutted when I read it. The characters lacked depth and the lead character Crystal totally pissed me off. Just f***cking pick one of them you stupid girl! Ryan's character totally changed through the book and lacked consistency and Kelly just seemed like an added extra that really served little purpose. I mean really who screws the guy who is in love with your best friend and is also one of your best friends and doesn't mind that he'll never pick you even if you want him! Erm nobody!!! As for Gabriel yeah he has the potential to be an amazing character but needs some work.
This just wasn't my cuppa. Mindless sex with various partners with very little romance just didn't do it for me, and I'm no prude by any means because I love smokin' hot romance in the books I read. I really enjoyed the first few chapters that set up the storyline, but then everything seemed to go haywire. I felt like some of the sex scenes were written just for the shock factor. I also feel like it's unrealistic that someone with so little sexual experience would go f/f/m AND m/f/m during the first week of college, but hey, maybe things have changed more than I realize! I will say that the sex scenes were extremely hot, and I'm sure that many readers will enjoy the book much more than I did--as I said, just not my cuppa.
