About the author

Kazimierz Przerwa Tetmajer was a Polish poet, novelist, playwright, journalist and writer. He was a member of the Young Poland movement.

Przerwa-Tetmajer studied classics and philosophy at the Jagiellonian University in 1884-1889. He then became a journalist at Kurier Polski, and lived both in the Tatras and in Kraków (Cracow). After World War I he moved to Warsaw to serve as president of the Society of Writers and Journalists. In 1934 he was made honorary member of the Polish Academy of Literature.

Przerwa-Tetmajer suffered from a mental illness in the latter years of his life, which prevented him from writing. He was living in a hospice in 1940 when the Nazis evicted all the occupants. He was left homeless and died shortly afterwards in a Warsaw hospital.

Świetnie napisane, proste historie ludowe. Bardzo dobre połączenie gwarowych dialogów z młodopolskim narratorem (ale nie udziwnionym). Plastycznie oddane życie wiejskie, górska przyroda, charaktery. Nie lubię góralskiej cepelii, jaką się często podaje w mediach i tu jestem bardzo pozytywnie zaskoczony

I'm glad I've finally read, Podhale is (was) my third homeland so I like the connotations in literature. Some of the short stories here are interesting, some are less. Ethical aspects are quite often unacceptable from the present point of view, but I'm afraid not so much different from the past (and following) reality of Highlands.

Nie ten kaliber co "Legenda Tatr", ale wciąż świetna rzecz. Drugi tom nieco bardziej "pozytywistyczny", tj. sporo o biedzie. A tak ogólnie to "Kto ze strachu umiera, temu bżdzinami dzwoniom".
