Stephen Michael King has illustrated, written, and designed many books for children, including The Duck and the Darklings by Glenda Millard. He lives in Australia.
I was asked to select and perform a reading at my brother's wedding. As a librarian, I loved the idea of finding a children's book -- something like a storytime selection. This was my choice. I highly recommend it as an alternative wedding piece. With the help of the groomsmen in performing the reading (big, small, up down), it was a highlight of a beautiful ceremony.
A really cute read with equally adorable illustrations that will capture any young readers attention. I love how simple this story is and how colorful, simple and elegant each of the pictures talks are. This story talks about the beautiful world around us that's full of color, music and the best thing of all, YOU. It's the perfect book to have at home, in a preschool setting, or story time, as kids will be able to relate to the colors, different musical sounds, and most importantly the love that's mentioned in the book. If you're looking for that perfect book to get your kids for Valentine's Day, I'd recommend picking up this adorable story about love and friendship. It's a book you'll want to keep out all year round.
This little number falls just into the 'cute' side, avoiding sacchrine, as the words tell the listener how special they are. The illustrations show the relationship between a little dog-like creature and a bird, but the sentiment is universal. Great to share, and to give to a special someone, whatever their age.
You is a sweet story that has a puppy telling his best friend, a bird, how the world is best when they are together. With precious artwork and a sweet repeating style, talking about the world with all its colors and sounds, this book is a definite winner.
A sweet simple bookthat reminds kids they are the best thing in the world, even with all the other wonderful things to see. Probably not the best message for a junior high or high school student, but for your sweet little toddler, go ahead and smother them with kisses and love while reading this short little book.
Was way too basic for my 3 year old and did not keep his interest at all, even though there are very few words and pages. I can see this being good for very young children and would be better as a board book. The simple message does tell the reader how special they are but doesn’t do it in any extraordinary way, and isn’t overly memorable.
This is a very nice book for a parent or loved one to read to an infant or a toddler. It tells the listener how important they are to the reader, by comparing them to other things in life….and saying that “you” are the reader’s favorite.
Jake's Review: This book is for babies but its kinda cute. I think its more for mommies because they like that mushy stuff. I would like the illustrations to be done on the whole page, not just the little bit on each page. I also think there should be more words -- but I guess that is why the book is for little guys like my dumb brother who cannot speak much. Jake's Rating: 7/10
Jesse's Review (done in mommy words): Likes to look at the cover and will let me read him a couple of pages and than he takes off. That is pretty good for Jesse as he is an anti book type of kid. I think he would really like this type of art if it was of something of interest to him like sports, cars -- or even better diggers. I cannot tell you what he thought of the whole story -- because -- um -- he wouldn't let me finish reading it.
Mom's Review: I adored the art in this one. So sweet and beautiful and I think will really appeal to little girls - I know its sexist, but I have 2 boys and they tend to gravitate towards more bold and colourful. That being said I think little ones will enjoy the simple touching story and the cute little pictures. I will be passing it on to my friend Pam because I think her little girls will like it. Mom's Rating: 8.5/10

A little one has set out to show just how much he cares for his friend, bringing colour to their life while sharing all the brightness and beauty of the world. But the most colourful thing in the world is his friend.

You demonstrates just how much more enriched, colourful, musical and exciting life is when shared with those you love. Just as this book is more enhanced, vibrant, sweet and moving when shared with a special little loved one. A dear little book as bright in imagery as it is touching in meaning.

This is the best picture book I have read year to date. Amazing illustrations, wonderful story and a book that will leave an impact on both children and those around them alike. This book really does an amazing job of summing up what life will have in store and be a reminder of the most important things. I loved reading this story and know you will enjoy sharing it with children in your life also!
The world is big, colorful, and musical and has a lot of things in it. But the best part about it is You! A wonderful tribute to the value of human interaction as told through an unidentifiable animal. Useful in storytime to connect to colors, music, or love.
I didn't know there was another Stephen King... Anway... You is the exact opposite of scary. Cute, calm watercolor illustrations. A few words on each page lets your baby/2-year-old know that they're the most important part of your world.
My sister gave me this book for graduating Teacher's College! It is such a cute story, perfect for my upcoming Kindergarten class! It's very simple but has such a sweet message.
Really enjoyed this book. It talks about the very special person in a child's life (parents, guardian, relatives, etc.) Really sweet and heart warming. Almost brought a tear to the eye.
