Wow. This was an incredibly written memoir of Brittany Cecilia Jo’s life. Although I am not a religious person myself, I do consider myself to be spiritual and believe in a higher power and reading how Brittany lost herself & then found herself again was really touching. A great example of your past doesn’t define who you are & although we can’t pick our battles in life, it’s all about how we handle them and overcome them.
I’m not one for reading the blurbs on what a book is about. I decided today I was going to read this book simply because of the cover! I have been having such a hard time with life lately, I recently lost my dad and have been on a downhill spiral since. I decided this book looked how I was feeling today! After reading this book I can honestly say I feel like god was trying to reach out to me again and that I need to work on my relationship with him! But most of all this book gave me hope! It gave me hope for so many things! It was a perfect book for me to read today!
This was one of those books that alluded to something for far too long before getting to business… if told chronologically it maybe would have been better, and while there is a tragic story to it, and I’m sympathetic to the tragic parts of her story, it didn’t make for a good or inspiring or interesting read.
This was a great memoir about the rough upbringing and obstacles this young woman endured through her younger years. She thought she found a family that truly loved and cared for her and come to find out they used and manipulated her. She thought she found her happy ending with her husband and baby daughter to have her past come back to haunt her. She lets Jesus into her life to help guide her. It’s a lovely book and I am glad she was able to put her life back together and find peace with the lord by her side.
Very well written memoir. The details of the incidences that led up to being prosecuted by the federal government were intense. I praise Brittany for opening up about everything and how she found herself again. She accepted her past, and promised for a better future. I am looking forward to the next book. 📕
I DNF this book. I don’t usually read the info on books, if they look interesting I’ll read it. This was recommended by the author on a book page, and she made it sound so good, but I couldn’t get past the first 2-3 chapters because she kept alluding to something with repetitive inner thoughts and monologue, without ever addressing the major plot line, and it just wasn’t enough to keep me hooked — more than anything it annoyed me.
this book was sent to me by the author after self-promoting in a fb book group we’re in. i was so excited to read more about her story & finally had a chance to dive in.
i’m not one to read the blurbs & prefer to go in open-minded, so i wasn’t prepared for a lot of the religious aspect of the book, personally. despite that, my biggest peeves were the editing/proofreading errors (although i don’t really fault the author for that), a lot of back & forth in the timeline could have transitioned smoother, as well as feeling like there’s a lot of holes or lack of details at the important parts in the story (although, again, i don’t really fault the author for, as i’m not sure how much she was legally able to share).
it was an inspiring story of overcoming the hardships of a troubled childhood & the consequences of our poor choices as young adults. could it have been written a little better? absolutely. i think there’s potential, i just wasn’t captivated by the writing style, personally. it’s not to say there isn’t room for growth in the sequel. i just hope there’s a little more organization/outling, details (if possible) & editing.
brittany, thank you for sending me your book & for sharing your story with the world. at the end of the day, it’s liberating to speak your truth & share your side of what happened. i know it took a lot of strength & courage to do so. i wish you nothing but the absolute best moving forward.
I received a free copy of this book from the author. I’m giving my honest review. Thank you for sharing your story.
While I feel odd rating a memoir anything other than a 5, it’s their life experiences, helloooooo, I’m here to read your life not be judgy. Here’s my personal thoughts….
Written in first person perspective. We are taken on this journey of life and redemption through the authors own eyes.
The story takes us on adventure from past experiences, choices made at pivotal moments, and the consequences of said choices. Albeit good or bad.
While the first person perspective allows the reader into the authors inner world, it felt as though “THAT” one person/relative in life sat you down and told you of their adventures. While your looking at them, open mouthed in awe like “really?”
The book was about 160 pages if I recall correctly. I felt there was quite a bit of blank space on some pages though. And while that can’t necessarily be helped, I wondered if in future editions that may change.
Brittany made a mistake. This is her journey of redemption.
I loved the way this memoir was told in past and present and gave us a glimpse into Brittany’s journey and struggles. And not just her struggles…her path to finding herself. While it was a good and easy read, it made me think of my own sh*t and that was a little tough.
That being said, I found comfort in her words and found myself cheering her on from the sidelines. I wanted nothing more than to give her a hug and tell her everything was going to be okay.
Brittany also had so many quotable passages. While I’m not religious, some of my favorite passages were actually from the Bible. I really think this book healed a little piece of me🥹.
I can’t wait for Brittany’s next book and will be cheering her on through the next stage of her journey💗
Hope is definitely what I received from reading Broken. Just as Brittany says she hopes a reader takes hope away from reading her book. I took more from it , like cherish moments , second chances, love, determination, change, and to believe. Along with strength to tell her story and to share it , and how she got a second chance at love. This book shows us even at our worst and hardest times that we can change , even in the darkest times there is room for change, hope, love, friendships, family, and strength. There is always hope and we can all find it along our journeys of life. The way the book ended I hope one day we will see a book two?
Wow!! What an Incredible story!! A young woman shares her story of how she escaped a bad past life. Through her relationship with God & religion. A story of faith, strength, & resilience. A must read!!!! I received a copy for an honest review. & This story is heartbreaking..but definitely Life changing.
I have never read a memoir before but this book sucked me in. I saw it posted on facebook and it had several interesting comments that I immediately downloaded and oh my goodness. I was teary eyed and actually crying in some parts. Highly recommend checking it out. I cant wait for book 2 (based off the ending it seemed like there was a book 2)
This is a moving story about triumphing despite obstacles and bad decisions.
For me personally, I wasn’t prepared for the religious focus later in the book. Plus, there felt like quite a bit of repetition—sometimes mentioned by the author and purposefully, but other times felt unnecessary.
To write a book can be tough I am sure but to sit down and write a book about your life has to be even tougher. To open up your life from the good to the bad is mind blowing. I was totally wrapped in this book. As Brittany was telling the story,I could picture myself right there like I was going through it with her. I admire you for making yourself vulnerable again to share what you went through. I have already started Unbroken. Thank you for sharing and your strength to overcome is remarkable.
Wow . Just an incredible story and I’m craving for more. God definitely lays out paths that we tend to not follow but one day the only thing that we need is his love and ever lasting peace when everything else fails.
I enjoyed this book for the most part. It just drove me nuts that she didn’t explain what is what that she did until further on in the book. She referenced it a lot but took a while to explain. I also felt like she left some details out about the crimes and the others involved. I will definitely read the second one.
I have never cried when reading a book before… but this one had me ugly crying. And I related to a lot of her faith and am currently studying the same chapter she talks about in the Bible. I absolutely hate what she went through but I am so appreciative of her sharing her story with us!
Never have I read a memoir that had me feeling every emotion. I love that Brittany writes her story with the intent to give others hope no matter what they are facing. I can’t wait for book 2 and hope I can purchase a signed copy of Broken soon.
This was a really interesting book about what the author has been through and I hope there is a second to follow on. The only thing that let this book down was a few spelling/grammar things but a great read
This is the first book I have read this year and I am so happy that I did. Very seldom do I get emotional reading and this memoir had me sobbing by the end. I honestly have no words to explain… I cannot wait for the continuation
This was such a heartbreaking memoir . The struggles and emotions put into this, is raw. I know she has a second party coming out but I just felt so sad for Brittany and her family.
This book inspired me. I related to Brittany Harris on a couple occasions and I immediately felt for her. This memoir is a rollercoaster of emotions and I can’t tell you how many times I cried or had to set the book down.
Without spoilers, I will say that this book is about taking responsibility for your actions, personal growth, faith, love and support. Just because you did something bad, doesn’t mean you’re a bad person. I fully believe people want to make changes in their lives, not only for themselves, but for their loved ones. 🖤
I went in blind reading this book. Brittany was kind enough to send me a copy, without expectations. This book is a short insert of Brittany's life and the emotional and physical strife she endured as a young woman. Get ready for some tissues. Grab a blanket and wine because you're going to need it while reading her book. Thank you Brittany Cecelia Jo for sharing your story.
