Max S. Shapiro and Rhoda A. Hendricks have spent so much time to create this well developed encyclopedia about all mythologies in the world and perfectly explain who the god was and what they did this book is called, Mythologies of the world: A concise encyclopedia.
Mythologies of the the world is a great book it explains every god from almost every mythology in the world like “Aino the sister of joukahainen, who promised her hand in marriage to vainamoinen. In her efforts to escape the advances of the aged magician, Aino fell into the sea and was transformed into a water spirit.” Finnish mythology (Shapiro 9). Or Aditi “The goddess of heaven mother of the gods, the Adityas, and source of all living things” Indian mythology. (Shapiro 3) And Gold Bristles “ A golden boar, one of the treasures of frey. The boar, fashioned by the Dwarfs, gleamed brilliantly and had the power to protect warriors.” Scandinavian mythology. (Shapiro 72) This book never had main a plot basically an encyclopedia that explained god, goddesses, and mythical creatures also important items in mythical history. I would recommend this book to anyone that wants to learn more about mythology I say this is a great book for people that are just getting into mythology.
Some people that might like this book would be people interested in mythology like me or people that are just getting started in mythology would like it teachers may also like. Some things that I liked about the book were how in depth they went in to explain each mythical character. I also like how they made sure to specify which characters belonged to which part of mythology like Greek, Roman, or Indian. Some things that I did not like about the book was how confusing it was to figure out which mythical creature belonged to which mythical branch. I also did not like how it was encyclopedia form I would have preferred if they made it in story form and gave the backstory for every mythical creature.
