This book is for students who need extra help or preparation for the difficult chemistry concepts and tools that will be encountered in a typical high-school level chemistry class. Some students may also benefit from reviewing these basic concepts before starting a college introductory or organic chemistry class. It is a useful supplement to any class textbook and gives a unique perspective on the subject. Whether you are taking chemistry for the first time in high school, have a child who needs help with homework, or just want to find out more about chemistry, this book can help. Topics include The Atom, The Mole, Scientific Notation, Significant Figures, Unit Conversions, Bonding, Chemical Reactions, and Solubility. Problem-solving advice, homework tips, and test taking skills are also included.
I have just read this over the summer and it was easier to remember than lectures I've heard. If you're taking physical science, chemistry, or other science class, this could be more helpful than some regular textbooks.
I tech chemistry at community college. Many students are under pressure to take chemistry and do well. I like the authors approach to help with a perspective of its value.
Not a good book if you want a good refresher for taking higher level chemistry courses. This book is basically a bunch of chemistry history and definitions of certain topics.
Based on the content covered, this looks to be geared toward high-school level chemistry students. Not very enticing unless your students are truly motivated to "get it," but if they read it, they will probably get something out of it. Sometimes the key is just looking a the topics from another perspective, and this book provides that for some of the basics.
