This was sitting on my TBR for a while now and I'm a bit peeved that I didn't get to it before. Tara Brown has put herself on my Watch List with this book.

Evie has been made into a widow recently. Her rotten, cheating husband got himself killed and she's left picking up the pieces for their two children. Her world has been rocked but she has to remain strong. Unfortunately, her life is not what it seems. Her husband left her in some big doo-doo and she gets called back into serving with the agency she used to work for, Counter Intelligence (CI), prior to starting her family.

Secrets and betrayals abound. Conspiracies are revealed. Throw in two hot as sin men, one an agency man (Coop) and the other a drug runner/arms dealer (Servario) and this author has created a winner.

I'm a bit twisted but I'm sorta #TeamServario. I think it's because I'm a sucker for the anti-hero and he's definitely that. But I also caught many glimpses of his true heart in this book and I couldn't help falling for this character. Not to mention he was incredibly sexy. But then again, so was Coop. Gosh it's so hard to choose. Can't Evie have them both???

Oh Yeah Baby...

4.5 Mystery-Suspense-Great Characters-HOT SEX-Loved it Stars!

This is a fun, intriguing, suspense-filled, action-packed, keep you guessing, and surprisingly delicious read.

A mix of Mission Impossible, Indiana Jones, James Bond and yeah maybe even a touch of Austin Powers- all combined into a unique and thrilling first book of a new series.

I loved Evie; she is a 36-year-old housewife ex-spy raising two kids and is addicted to sweaty yoga. We meet Evie as she is driving to the funeral home to make arrangements for her dead husband James. James was killed while on a secret mission but he really was a double crossing, lying, cheating ass that was screwing her best friend as well as a few neighbor women.
Now, poor ol’ Evie is left with a mess she had no idea James was creating and she is suddenly caught up in a whirlwind of fixing the mess in order to keep her children and Mother and twin sister safe.

In comes a young team of agents, Coop, Luce and Jack to see that she does the right thing and stays alive. Coop is her handler. He is also hot, cocky and 28. He tells Evie about the mission she has to accomplish in order to get her life back. The mission is to frame bad guy, Gustavo Servario-

“He had to be at least six foot three. He smiled and made slight dimples in his cheeks, "Please, come in. My name is Gustavo Servario." His smile was hypnotic and calming. This... this was the man threatening my life and children??

Once Evie meets the bad man and finds out what she has to do…. Oh lordy do things get interesting and hot and twisted and we have the events in the hotel, plane and car and who done it, who is alive or dead, who really is the bad guy or gal? Who is the mole?

Evie and Servario are smoking hot together. I loved how he reawakened her sexuality and lit her body on fire-

“There was no way, one man could make me feel like that. Nothing on the planet, had ever made me feel like that. It was a release like I had never had. It was better than crying and letting my steam off. I might never cry again, if he could keep that up. I slapped myself mentally, and reminded my filthy brain that I had just let a criminal screw me."

However, Evie can’t be owned by this bad guy and needs to escape and in her snarky little way she decides to convince Servario that she really is not all that appealing-

"You’re keeping me here against my will. I am a thirty-six-year-old woman. You can't expect me to be a giggly, twenty-year-old who keeps secret the fact she poops and passes gas." He grimaced and continued to type on the laptop, "Good God, you aren’t going to start passing gas in front of me, are you?”

Even when she runs from Servario, she seems to find him or he finds her again and Evie rationalizes this by blaming her girl parts-

“No. I’m here because my vagina wants to be. I need to focus on my kids. You need me to hate you— well, you know what? The feeling is mutual.” A grin toyed with his lips, “You say that word with no apprehension. I find that odd. You are too forward with the things you’ll say.”

The last half of the book was so fast-paced I almost had a hard time keeping track, but boy it was so fun trying.

This is going to be a series and I really thought the ending was such a great lead in for the next book. No cliffhanger, just another plot development for future fun and added love interest (Coop)

Oh… and I hear jingle bells in the background “See you at Christmas”.. *winks*

Wow. This was a crazy ride. I don’t even quite know how to categorize it. It’s more spy thriller than romance, but there is still a good deal of “steam” factor. It’s very character driven (despite there being pretty much non-stop action for most of the book) and there are two potential “love interests” in this first installment.

 photo lie_zps3a8fdbe2.jpg

When the story opens, we meet Evie. She a 36 year old, mother of two, and her whole world is falling apart. She is planning the funeral of her husband James, while dealing with the fact that her whole marriage was a lie.

“He cheated our family, and instead of facing the music like a man, he died. He didn’t even have the consideration to let me find out, the way I deserved. He had made me the object of gossip. He had made me a fool

I can’t even tell you how much I could relate to Evie, and it pretty much broke my heart. She is barely holding it together

“My parenting skills were slowly diminishing. They too were being smothered by the avalanche of bad things.

Then of course, the “bad things” got even worse. James wasn’t only a liar, he had left a mess, a dangerous mess that Evie now had to clean up.

She meets Cooper, and is pulled back into a life she had left behind years ago.

”Do you have any idea what your husband has been doing the last ten years, while you were having kids and driving them to play dates?” His tone mocked me. I shook my head and looked down.
. . . .
“James was good at keeping secrets. That was about his only redeeming quality.”

Oh my did Cooper piss me off. I wanted to smack the crap out of him more than once. He is cocky, and arrogant, and hot.

Then, she meets Servario. He’s part of the loose ends that James has left for Evie to handle. Because of James, Evie has to engage Servario in a game. A game of secrets and seduction, of power and coercion.

“You are the most dangerous kind of woman in the world.” . . . “You make me want to be worthy of you. That’s a dangerous effect to have, on a man like me.”
. . .
“I don’t want to have to kill you to make this feeling go away, Evie.”

Appearance verses reality is a big theme for the book. Nothing is what it seems. You don’t know who to trust, who is telling the truth, or what hidden agenda someone is driving at.

 photo tumblr_leqskd1lwa1qcxmb5o1_500_zps66d1f18a.jpg

Most of the book I felt like as soon as I got my bearings, the rug was pulled out from under me, and everything I thought was turned on its head.

I was totally enthralled with this book from start to finish. It’s exciting and fast past, sad and funny, sexy and heartbreaking. I saw on the author’s review that this is the first of nine books planned. Don’t feel like you have to wait. While we (obviously) don’t get the whole story, it ended at a good place. I will definitely be following Evie until the bitter end.

Jenny: 4 Stars
Gitte: 4.5 Stars

Jointly reviewed for http://totallybookedblog.com/ - be sure to head on over to TB for interviews, reviews, teasers and giveaways.

Gitte: Okay, I officially love Tara Brown. I think she could write anything and I’d buy it, actually I know she could. Her style is so original; her storylines are crazy unpredictable and refreshing. She manages to inject just the perfect combination of humour, suspense and ‘unusual romance’ into one hell of an addictive read. The End of Me is book one and I know I’m hooked until this series ends.

“You make me want to be worthy of you. That’s a dangerous effect to have, on a man like me….I don’t want you to be anything but mine.”

This book is not only very sexy and hot. It’s also disturbingly dark and thrilling with more twists and turns than should be allowed in one book. I was inhaling every word and fell in love with all the characters. I definitely want to be the meat in a Cooper and Servario sandwich.

“Don’t make me love you…….Because it will end badly for us both.”

What did you think Jenny?

Jenny: What did I think? I’m with you! I officially have, not only a readers crush, but a huge big girlie crush on this author because she wrote one very funny, strong, upfront and kick ass heroine and she also had me guessing at every turn just what the hell was going on, not to mention, all while making me laugh out loud at times. Tara Brown certainly knows how to turn a story on its head and leave the reader hooked!
And yes! How refreshing it was to meet someone like Evie! It had it all…thrills, spills, hot sex and……Evie’s droll take on situations could certainly make you cringe uncomfortably while tittering at the same time. It was thrilling ride, laced with humor, heat and suspense. The the quips between her, Coops and Servario definitely kept the giggles coming…not to mention having to fan yourself every now and then over the sexual tension and hot scenes.

“You’re not really my type. I get the whole cougar thing is huge, but I’m not into it. I like when I’m on top and all forty-types always want to steer.” – Coops

Don’t even get me started on that Cooper and Servario butty! I want in on that one! How the hell would you ever make a choice? You’d have to have them on a time share schedule or something!

Gitte: So we meet our heroine Evie; a thirty-six year old widow with two young children, just as she is coming to terms with the fact that not only is her hubby dead but apparently her whole marriage was a sham. Her husband was a cheating lying bastard who has now landed her in a heap of trouble which could cost the lives of Evie and her loved ones.

“You are in danger. Your husband is dead and his debt is now yours.”

Evie is proper kick-arse with a wicked past in the military but has settled into the Mummy and wife role….until now. She suddenly has to revert back to her role in the military and fight, play dirty, kill and umm shag in order to save the day, unravelling one mystery, deception and ‘cover up’ after the other . The way she gets pulled back into ‘that’ life comes in the shape of the gorgeous, arrogant, funny and extremely shag’able Cooper….

“I tried not to notice the way his pulse beat rhythmically in his neck. It was like neck porn. I licked my wrist and sucked back the drink. I grabbed the lemon and sucked, all while watching the neck porn.”

I have to say I LOVED Evie; she’s my kind of heroine. She has a fab sense of humour with sarcasm, she’s real and I completely connected with her.

“I readjusted my boobs cause they were not nineteen anymore either. At thirty-six, sometimes they got a little excited about what we were doing, and ended up out of my shirt. I was pretty sure they tried to jump in Coops face at one point.”

She rocked and I kind of wanted to be her…well minus all the violence and drama. Okay, if I could just be her…on a plane….sat in between Coop and Serv…hang on I’m just going to contemplate that…BRB!!

Oh and having found out her Husband cheated on her, well you can’t blame her for a lot of her sexual antics. This woman wakes up from the lull of being a housewife and settles right back into her previous role. She refuses to be a cougar; it makes her feel old…but a sex kitten, yeah she’ll take that but with who? They’ve all been watching her…they all want her!

“I’m here because my vagina wants to be…”

Jenny: Eyes on me Gitte! Stop with the Coop and Serv fantasies…we’ve got a review to write here!
Coop & Serv…..sigh….hmmm where were we again! Sorry…you mentioned Coops, Serv and shagging in the one sentence and you lost me! Evie rocked alright! When we first meet her she seems so down and so broken, so lost, but wow! What an absolute revelation she turned out to be! This “ordinary” Mum soon kicked it up a notch when her previous military training came into play. Although her world was turned on its head, Evie handled it with aplomb! She was sharp, beautiful and witty.
Oh, and couldn’t this girl make you squirm (in a good way lol) with what came out of her mouth…..I will never…ever…read an anal sex scene without thinking of Evie again….and no folks, I don’t mean that in a weird sexual way, but in a funny way….well, read the scene and you’ll see what I mean.

He cocked an eyebrow, “I don’t know what you’re talking about. I don’t know what a hoohoo is. Focus!”

The banter between her and the other characters was priceless and I particularly loved how she wasn’t afraid to take the mickey out of herself, all while deflecting derogatory comments from young hot Coops, dealing with an insatiable sexy alpha domineering baddie and kicking some major backsides along the way.

“I assumed it was a heat of the moment sort of thing. He would get over it when he saw me watch a chick flick with snot running down my face, and Ben and Jerry keeping me company.”

Even though Evie had it all going on, she didn’t take herself seriously and she was definitely someone you connect with immediately. Yep, I loved Evie alright!

Gitte: And then we have Cooper and Servario. Two alpha males who kick arse as well, literally. I loved them both for different reasons and wish Evie was into sarnies. Because this is one double decker I’d have! How do you choose? Do you have to? I was back and forth like a yo yo, if you’d asked me at blah % into the story I would say Coop….ask me five minutes later I’d say Serv.

“You deserve a love like no other person has ever had.”

One’s a goodie, the other’s a baddie…I think.

“He was a bad man. A bad man my vagina crazy loved.”

But then what does that mean anyway when you fall in love with a fictional character. They’re both HOT and bring something different to the table so I’m not going to choose.

“I don’t want to have to kill you to make this feeling go away, Evie.”

Most of the scenes with the bang on humour between Coop and Evie and also Serv and Evie had me in absolute stitches. The discussions they had were sarcastically funny and frankly so honest covering every aspect of normal daily life and routines. I think we covered most topics and what to share and not to share….from haemorrhoids to anal to bathroom routines to when it’s okay to have sex…or not. Bloody hilarious! They were nicely placed in amongst the suspenseful chase of the end game.

The storyline is truly a ‘game’ of power and cunning. Who’s going to come out on top? Who’s going to win the chase? The motto of ‘Trust No one’ could never be truer than in this story. Everyone has an agenda and Evie seems to be the pawn.

“I just got whored out by the fucking military to the arms dealer….”

It was like watching a game of players using seduction, intimidation and violence to reach The End Of….

”Don’t hate the player, hate the game.”

So yes…YES I loved it…Loved pretty much everything about it. Just one thing though, in my opinion, part of the ending confused me right good and proper and I felt a lot of ‘reveals’ were rushed out and not explained properly. A lot suddenly happened in the shortest space of time. This meant that I didn’t fully get the crux of the end game….something important didn’t make sense to me. I hope book #2 explains it and I can’t wait.

Jenny: Yep I agree. I got whiplash from going between these two. I don’t think you can choose. Impossible.I absolutely loved this story. I have to be honest and say when it started out I didn’t think it was going to hold my interest but at 15% I was hooked and dying to know just what the hell was going on and what that douchebag husband James, had got Evie into.
I will agree with the ending. The writing was fast at that point and it did seem to all wrap up so quickly in a small amount of time and I’m hoping book #2 End of Games will enlighten us about what is going down! This was certainly a great introduction to the series that’s for sure and there’s something for every reader in this book.

“Do you have any idea what you husband has been doing for the last ten years, while you were having kids and driving them to play dates.”

This was a fun, thrilling, intriguing, no holds barred, hot adventure that I’m glad I signed up for. Oh the intrigue and mystery, and did I mention the heat…wow! What a good read this was.

“You okay?” I nodded, “Yup.” I would be, after years of intensive therapy and the possible misuse of red wine and vodka.

This was one sexy spy thriller. I was invested, loved it, giggled like an idiot and can’t wait for more! Just one thing. DO NOT ask me to choose between Coops and Serv…..unless that timeshare thing can be nutted out. hmmmm…… Gitte get back here, I think I have a solution to our Coops and Serv dilemma *wink, wink*

“The number one skill of any CI officer is belief. You need to believe. ‘Cause if you don’t, they won’t either.”

Ok I don’t know what to call this book, other then WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT? It’s like the perfect present with alittle bit of HOT, LUST, LOVE, SUSPENSE, PASSION, AMAZING, OH MY GOD DO IT AGAIN MOMENTS! Seriously no matter what you enjoy Tara is about to give it to you in this little book. She got my attention from page one and then never let me leave her until the last page. And even then I found myself trying to get her to talk to me because I NEEDED to express my team choice and demand to know what team she was on. Can Author’s choose a team when they created the triangle?

”You are having a strange effect on me, Evie.”

So this book starts and we learn Evie’s husband is dead, but before he died he had some serious secrets and now Evie is left cleaning up the mess. Oh what a mess it is and that is all I am going to say because you need to experience it like me blind. I loved Evie, she was so stubborn, strong and mad as hell. But we also see this other side she was vulnerable, she relatable and she is so funny. She was a mom who had lost herself in being a wife and the image that comes with that but as we read we watch her find the women that was buried inside her. We watch her protect her babies, kick some serious ass and well we meet two of the greatest gifts to the book boyfriend shelf.

”My name is William Cooper.”

“He licked his lip and I tried not to notice how plump they were. Or how he had the subtlest cleft in his chin. Or the way his pulse beat rhythmically in his thick neck. It was like neck porn.”

“Every observation I made of him linked itself to a dirty thought. I’d been reading too many naughty books.”

Cooper is the CI agent that has been keeping tabs on Evie and her dead husband. Cooper is HOT, young and completely devoted to keeping Evie safe. The banter between these two is priceless, and him calling her a cougar had me laughing out loud. Their friendship is what drew me in the beginning but then as we get to know them you can’t help but want the Coop experience.

”He’s hot, like what the hell hot. I’d let him hurt me for an hour or two. Shit, I might hurt him.”

Servario. OMG, Servario! Is he the bad guy turned good guy or the good guy turned bad guy? I’m still not sure but what I do know is that this Sexy as hell, Alpha, Controlling Bad Ass can be whatever he wants and I wouldn’t run away from him.

I LOVED this book on so many levels, it was not what I was expecting but Tara Brown’s books are never what I expect. They give you so much more, they are what Tara sees and what she wants you to experience! This book was different than anything I’ve ever read and I think that’s what makes it such a gem. It keeps you so wrapped up in this world and it leaves you wanting, craving the next one.

“I wonder if they’d already put some coke in my underwear drawer, I could go for a hit.”

True story Tara Brown left me wanting more and she definitely left me with a couple tears and a few giggles. I LOVED IT, I WISH I COULD GIVE IT MORE THEN 5 STARS and I wish I could live with Tara so I could experience what exactly is in her head.

”You deserve a love like no other person has ever had.”

SO after reading this book, it took me several days to write this cause at first the only way I can explain my reaction to it was

AMAZING, OMG,WOW, Phenomenal....So I am a fluffy sappy romance kind of girl but have decided to try to read some new genres and broaden my reading scope. Well I now have a new type of genre to add to the list of genres I read, I like to call it "ANYTHING TARA BROWN WRITES"!

From the very first page, the author had me hooked and I couldn't put this book down. I laughed, I cried, I wanted to scream, I wanted to strangle someone and ravage someone all within minutes of each other, WOW, this is pure writing genius.

So as the book starts we are introduced to Evie, a former spy not turned housewife and mom of two who is trying to deal with the death of her lying cheating husband, who is also spy. Evie is a great character, she is a strong female lead who is sarcastic and sassy as hell. She was a character I could really connect, she was real and couldn't help but relate sometimes the Evie "the Mom". She has so many great lines that I could not help but highlight,

"I hadn't drunk anything but red wine since I'd joined the mommy brigade. They had rules and liking red wine was one of them. I always assumed it was because of Dr. Oz had mentioned it a few times. Those women were nuts for Dr. Oz. He could say smearing your own spit across your forehead was a way to stop cancer and they'd do it" "

William Cooper (a.k.a. Coop) is the CI agent is assigned to her mission to watch out over her and I love the relationship between them, the banter that goes on between them is so entertaining

"Oh MY God, I didn't sign up for this. It wasn't us freezing your accounts. Your name came up on Intel. I'm here to handle you, that's all. I don't want to hear about your bake sales and shit."

Enter now Servario, hot bad guy that Evie instantly has hot sexy chemistry with, he was the bad man that a certain crazy but part of her body loved. But he warns her

"Don't make me love you," he muttered, "Because it will end badly for both of us"

So take these three amazing characters, mix in two kids, a family of spies, bad guys and good guys and a great spy mystery that needs to be solved that has so many unexpected twists and turns and happen when you never expect them and WOW you have one insanely awesome book that as earlier stated will make you feel a roller coaster of emotions all within minutes of each other. Tara Brown's writing is truly amazing, its different, it's unpredictable it's fresh, it's real, it's funny, it's hot, and it's HOLY BATMAN suspenseful. So to put her writing under a specific genre does not do her or her writing justice, she deserves her very own genre and I am adding it to my list!

When I was finished the book, man what a book hangover, it left me wanting more, which I am so excited about getting 8 more books of these amazing characters, intriguing sexy story all wrapped up in her amazing writing style.

So now the question is, will you be Team Coop or Team Servario?

And final words and thoughts, hold on tight you are in for an amazing ride

I wasn't sure what I was expecting going into this, but WHAT A GREAT BOOK!!!!

"I got whored out by the fucking military to the arms dealer, who is being blamed for my husband's "

Ex-CIA operative discovers that not only was her supposed retired husband, never let the operative world, but that he's also a cheating, lying jerk who screws anything he can get himself on top of. For less that 300 pages, I admit I set myself up for disappointment. Instead what I found was suspense, mystery, hot-steam, great chemistry, laughter (lots of it!) and tears!!

I also went through abit of a mind-f*ck situation up until 80% of the book, trying to figure out who I wanna root for Coop or Servario. In the end, Servario won my heart, BIG.TIME.

I loved how the story unfolded with her going through her grief, shock and rage over discovering all of her husband's secrets, the relationship among Coop, Luce and Jack was great, and surprisingly some of the scenes with Evie and Servario were a riot!!

"But i can't have sex every hour on the hour. I'll need an ice pack for my hoohoo."

He grimaced and continued to type on the laptop, "Good God, you're not going to start passing gas in from of me, are you?"

The sex was HOT!! The mile club experience could never compare in other books to what I read in this book! That was the hottest Plane Sex I've Ever Read!! WOW!!!

This book had it all, and I can't wait to read the rest of the series!!

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the plot, however, I don't feel like there was enough to get to me to really accept Evie and Servario. The beginning of the book has you immediately like Coop- then she's essentially kidnapped and forced to be a "plaything" for the bad guy. Then wait, he's not really the bad guy, but Evie likes him before she finds that out...for what reason? Simply because she likes the sex? Sorry that's not enough for me. And what about Coop? He's just supposed to be sitting in the sidelines supporting her no matter what silly choices she makes just to get more sex? That was a little hard for me to accept, especially as she's supposed to be stressed out about her kids...All in all, I enjoyed most of it and will give other books by the author a chance!

Another wonderfully surprising read on my TBR list that I finally got to.

This a really different read for me but it was fantastic.

Evie has recently been left widowed by her cheating husband. She is now raising two young kids on her own when she gets pulled back into the profession she was in before she got married and had children.

Her ex-husband was involved in some serious shite and she has protect her kids by going back undercover.

This is a fantastic, sexy, thrilling read and I've already bought book 2 :)

"Your husband did something. I don't know what. But the man who sent the package is the one who now owns your life. You're alive because he says its ok for you to be alive."

Evie is an ex CI agent turned soccer mom who has learned her husband not only died but left behind some serious baggage which she now has to clean up. "To say I was pissed would be a HUGE understatement." What happens when you piss off an ex CI agent/soccer mom? You get one bad ass chick who is ready to take control of her life again.

William Cooper is the CI agent in charge of making sure that Evie stays safe throughout this mission. "I'm man enough to handle you, I can assure you." The banter between these two is priceless and you can't help but feel that there is more to their relationship than just co-workers.

Evie's mission is to pretend that she has no clue what's going on as she meets up with Gustavo Servario and get close enough to him to find out what he wants from her. From the minute she meets him the sexual chemistry between them is undeniable. "He was a bad man. A bad man my vagina crazy loved."

This is one of those books that you need to experience going in blind. It pulls you in from the first line and just as you think you have it all figured out the twists and turns prove you wrong and make you realize that everything isn't always what it seems. By the time you're done you will be asking yourself "What the hell just happened?" "The reality of the whole situation didn't filter in slowly, it slammed my brain hard." YUP...Tara tends to do that to us EVERY TIME and I Iove her even more for it!

This is book 1 out of a 9 book series so the fun has only just begun!!

Okay, I officially love Tara Brown.

“Don’t make me love you……Because it will end badly for us both.”

Jenny:
Eyes on me Gitte! Oh, and couldn’t this girl make you squirm (in a good way lol) with what came out of her mouth…..I will never…ever…read an anal sex scene without thinking of Evie again….and no folks, I don’t mean that in a weird sexual way, but in a funny way…well, read the scene and you’ll see what I mean.

"He cocked an eyebrow, “I don’t know what you’re talking about.

“I just got whored out by the fucking military to the arms dealer…”

“You okay?” I nodded, “Yup.” I would be, after years of intensive therapy and the possible misuse of red wine and vodka."

Not my typical read - although I'm not so sure I have typical reads anymore - but I fell quickly and easily into the plot and storyline.

I have lots and lots of nuances about the plot and the writing. I lost track on numerous occasions about who was working for who and how could they get away with that, when this was happening...confused? Yeah at times I was too...but apparently when you like a book, you can overlook all kinds of discrepancies.

There were scenes where I thought needed more detail and others where I thought there was too much. I would have liked more character build up for Servario and there were a number of areas I felt were rushed.

But at the same time I couldn't help but warm to Evie's character, she was very real and identifiable to what was happening around her, that also carried through to the other characters.

The romantic interest(s) are exactly that...interesting!! One being promisingly misleading, the other based on an ambiguous preconception.

The sex wasn't uber hot, but it did sizzle - make of that what you will - let's just say you wouldn't give it to Granny to read and leave it at that.

I don't know, I felt there was a lot missing from this book, but I couldn't help but like it. I'm probably being overgenerous with the 4 stars but you know, sometimes books click with you and sometimes they don't, this one for me...did!

This was freaking great! This book grabbed me from page one and didn't let go. You instantly connect with Evie. How could you not? This opens up with Evie grieving the loss of her husband. But things are so much worse that you originally think. You learn more and more about Evie's husband James and I hated him. Oh that isn't even a spoiler you find out right away he was a douche-bag.

Then we meet Cooper and it took me a while to warm up to him. But in the end I really liked him. But we are set up right away with a love triangle. But honestly it seemed pretty obvious who Evie really wanted. Then there is hottie number two who is an arms dealer named Servario. Now him I really liked right away. How could you not be drawn to that dominate scary man?

This is fast paced and there were so many twists and turns. More questions than answers and by the end I was wishing I had book two.

Feisty, Witty, Exciting, and Sexy!

I'm really a fan of action-packed/thriller/mystery/romance novels with badass heroin and hot alpha-male. And, this one had it all.

Evie, Coop, and Servario - WOW! just wow!

I'd want Servario for Evie, really. He's a danger, I know. A powerful Italian arms-dealer. Evie, might never live a normal life with him but he's just so hard to resist.
He makes Evie be someone she never thought could be.

The difference between us being that He was one of the dangerous people in the world and I was a yoga addicted mom.

His arms wrapped around me, pulling me in. He bent and kissed the top of my head, "I don't want to have to kill you to make this feeling go away, Evie."
"…Don't make me love you,"he muttered, "because it will end badly for us both"

and here's Coop- 28yo CI Agent with steely blue eyes and military body. He's another catch. I also want to know more about him and the growth of his relationship with Evie.

BOOK 2, pleaseeee

I couldn't finish this book. Evie was the sorriest excuse for a spy and mother I've ever seen. Completely unbelievable. She drank alcohol around those considered to be the 'enemy' with nary a concern over being poisoned or drugged. She drank shots of tequila just before she was supposed to meet the bad guy, Servario, in his hotel room(not a bright move by any woman, much less a supposed ex-spy) and she just generally said and did strange things that nobody would do in real life.

This book was all over the place and I really didn't like Evie. Call me judgmental, if you must, for having a problem with the woman for allowing Servario, the same man she thinks killed her husband, the same man who froze her bank accounts, the same man who ordered her to kill another man, to have all kinds of sex with her in the bathroom of his private jet as they're on their way to Vegas where she is to kill that man. I just couldn't go on anymore and could not recommend this book.

"BEST WEEK OF MY LIFE xoxo"
Actually pretty sad at some points but life sucks at times and everyone has to deal.

Another amazing book Ms. Tara Brown. So glad it wasn't like typical love chick lit lovey dovey book. This was straight to point in some aspects. Fuck bullshit with the rest. One of my favorite things about her writing. Blunt!
It's going to kill me to wait for the rest in this series!!!!

I was sure I'd lose interest from the first chapters, but I liked it. Though there was many things that I didn't understand and many things that I didn't know where they come from not that I'm dumb or anything it was something in the writing itself. also there was a huge editing and punctuation problem. I don't believe there are two love interests like everyone else seem to think, but even if a love triangle will come back later, I like both guys so much and that's a first for me.

In The Dark

This series must be read in order. This is the first book. I can't wait to read "The End Of Games"!

Evie gave up being a spy to be the perfect wife and mother. Too bad her husband didn't appreciate her sacrifice. Her father encouraged him to "do the right thing" so he chose her... Married her... But he was not faithful to her and ended up dead. How long had he been cheating on her? Was he just a traitor to her or to their country as well? Did he ever care about her? Or the kids? How far do his betrayals go?

***This series is suitable for adult readers who enjoy modern spy adventures where nothing and no-one is who they seem with a dash of romance :)

This could have been such a GREAT story line. But alas .. No.
Where to start? I'll do Cons first, that way I leave a pleasant taste in your mouth with the Pros.

CONS
~ The characterization of the MC is inconsistent. This is a biggie, people! Chick supposedly graduated from spy school at the top of her class, but has been duped by literally EVERYONE for the past 10-15 years! How ignorant are you? Then, when she finds out she was duped she keeps believing people. If I found out my marriage of 10 years was a sham and everyone but me knew, I would instantly start questioning everyone and everything. She takes Coop's word for it that he's the good guy. Just cuz he says so. She gets trapped in the hotel with arms-dealer-guy, living it up for a few days but then suddenly runs for it when he mentions she's free to go. You didn't try to get away before? You assumed you were prisoner? No, you wanted the D. Don't lie. Slut.
I was willing to overlook her ignorance and just plain stupidity in the beginning because a character needs room to grow. And believe me, this chick had no where to go but up. But it didn't happen. And the further and further along we got, the more and more it bothered me.
Worst. Spy. Ever.

~ The action didn't make sense. Like I mentioned above, chick is "stuck" in the hotel with the bad guy. He mentions, 'Oh yeah, you didn't know? Yeah, you're free to leave whenever.' She bolts. He chases. Why didn't she try to run before? If he didn't want her to leave, why give her the green light? She believes she's a prisoner, let her. The author just needed the story to move so she moved it.
Then later, after MC is free, she thinks, 'I need to go back. He knows something. I have to get him to tell me so I can get my kids.' Then why did you run? If being with him isn't life threatening, why didn't you stay?

You make my head hurt.

~ The introduction of erotica felt forced. It was like 'I'm freaking out! On a plane with the bad guy! What is he going to make me do?' 'Come here, sexy.' 'Okay. Oh that feels good. Oh! YES!' 'Yeah, I know.' I don't know, it just didn't flow right. Like skipping foreplay and going straight for a hard pounding.

There are more, but I just ... sigh

PROS
~ Coop. He's really the only solid, stable character, besides the kids but honestly how stable can a 5 and 10 year old be?

~ Some of the MC traits were pretty spot on. Being a 30-year-old mother of two, I can say if I lost a husband I had no real emotional ties to I would be all over dangerous-dealer-man. No guilt and crying like our MC. I'd rock that shit. I mean, why not? Gonna happen anyway, right? Live a little, own it.
And everything really does rotate around the kids. Days when you just focus on their stuff, so you don't notice everything else is falling down. True story.

So NO, I wouldn't recommend. Too bad, too. Such a good premise.

The End of Me is a hot, erotic, sexy, thriller full of suspense. Mix in a bit of stockholm syndrome and you have one awesome book that sucks you in from the very first page. I can't tell you how much I enjoyed this book, I was on the edge of my seat the entire time.

The book starts off where Evie's husband (a CI agent) has died and Evie is left to sort through all the lies and secrets he left behind. Through a series of twists and turns she is forced to break out of the Soccer Mom shell that she has become accustom to, and jump back into a life that she left behind when she became a mom. Evie is a ticked off woman determined to do what ever she has to do to get control back in her life.

I have to say I loved Agent Cooper. He's hot, funny and arrogant.. The interactions he and Evie share had me laughing so hard. He's been assigned to watch over Evie and help keep her safe as well as to help her remember the woman she used to be before she became a wife and mother.

"The best agents are one of the boys. They fit in, first rule of beign an agent, F.I.F.O. It means Fit In Or F*** Off."

Then we have Servario. A big time arms dealer who in all honestly had me wondering do I love him, do I hate him almost the whole time. You really want to read the book to understand what I'm talking about.

Tara really did a great job on this. The writing was fantastic, the relationships between the characters was awesome. Your interest will be kept the whole time. You won't want to put the book down until the very end. Seriously the only thing I didn't like about the book was seeing The End. You will not not be disappointed. A Must read!

"The End of Me" has been sitting unread on my kindle for about six months. I remember starting it awhile back but quickly put it down when I thought the main character was whining about the dire circumstances her lying, cheating husband left her in. Well, I will tell you now, I was totally shocked at just how much I enjoyed this book. It was so incredibly to see a once strong woman give over herself to a louse of a husband and then regain her strength and self esteem all with the help of a drug running kingpin.

Thirty-six year old Evie, wife and mother is planning the funeral of her self absorbed cheating husband when she experiences a rude awakening. It seems good old Steve was having an affair with her best friend, Mel, from the beginning and he left her to clean up his mess including his debt owed to a gun running kingpin, Servacio. Now, she is thrust into the limelight as a spy, being led around by the nose by this evil man who awakens feeling she's never had and various governmental agencies (FBI, CIA, etc.) warring with themselves.

The first order of business is to get her mother and kids to safety before willingly giving herself to the man who will ensnare her in situations chocked full of danger and intrigue. One thing for sure, there's plenty of twists and turns that will keep you the reader on your toes. I really enjoyed reading the evolution of Evie. It was painful at times but the end result was an incredibly strong woman who makes no apologies for who she becomes. I can't wait to read more adventures of the Single Lady Spy.

I don't even know what I read... or how to categorize this book. Only I think I enjoyed it in places. I mean the story is a bit far fetched and some of the things the heroine does... wow... but leaving the plot aside and basing it on the characters, the eclectic mix of good guys(are they?) bad guys (are they?) it was all very intriguing and I found myself reading this in two sittings just to find out what happened and who did what.

If you enjoy crime thrillers you'd definitely like this with the smattering of hot sexy times thrown in.
I'm not sure if I'll make time to read book two in this Single Lady Spy series... but I am interested to know if Servario came for Christmas! #SexyAFArmsDealer

This book was literally all over the place.

It starts off with Evie, the main character, being all butt hurt and sad because she found out her recently deceased husband had been sleeping with the whole neighborhood.

Then he was messed up in something bad within regards to the government and she has to fix it.

Then she kisses this hot young blonde agent - and you expect sex.

But no, she has sex with a crime boss on a plane, then ends up spanking some old fat dude.

Insert a gay uncle with a fake Boston accent.

More sex with a crime boss.

More killing.

Weird deus ex machina ending.

Followed by a hauntingly deep cliffhanger.

Holy what the....what was that awesomeness I just read?! This book was the best surprise from beginning to end, and not like any book I've read recently. 5 freaking stars from me, and a fan girl on bended knee for what I hope to be a quick release of a 2nd book because I NEED to know what happens next!!!

This book really has it all...lust, flirting, cheating, steamy sex, alpha males, a KILLER storyline and holy crap, the SUSPENSE...that is what sealed the deal for me in this book. The snarky banter between the characters and who you fall in love with, when you shouldn't fall in love with them, but you can't help it dammit! I want more, I didn't want the book to end, but for this book, I think it ended how it should have. I'm seriously going to be watching for more Tara Brown releases, because this book has me hooked on her work...it's not the same ole' same ole' that we've been reading lately. Its so much better. If you want a good book, with an awesome storyline, characters you love to hate, and laugh with, read this book!!!

I mean " really" I couldn't finished this book at all it was so disappointing to me. I don't understand all the high reviews for this book. First of all, Evie was the most stupid spy I ever read about. She was totally clueless about the world around her even though she took the years off to raise her family. She was oblivious to her husband philandering ways about her parents who turned out to be the same as her. This book was just everywhere for me the plot didn't hold my interest. The things they did to get her back in to save the country was to hard to grasp on. How in the world she was assigned to meet a murderer who killed her husband, by drinking and then having sex with him on his jet. Then she liked it and started to have feelings for him. The one guy who turned her world upside down. Evie is not a heroine in my eyes she needed to get her life back and take care of her kids and kept her legs close to murders!!! It was a horrible book rated one star. Would not recommend!

Had potential but fell quite short....
I love suspense, I love not knowing what was going on but this was confusing. There were many times I did not know who was 'talking', and times where I had no idea what characters were referring to. I am all for being 'drip fed' information but I felt unattached from the book as I could not completely follow what was going on.
I felt like I had missed book one (there is not one!).
I absolutely loved 'The Lonely' also by Tara Brown and I am always recommending it to people. Therefore I was very excited to read this. It started off ok, I was waiting for it to get better then 3/4 of the way through I could have stopped reading, and then towards the end I skimmed and could not have cared what happened in the end.
I only continued due to who the Author was.
I wanted it to blow every other book out of the water but it just did not for me.
I love this genre so I was disappointed.
