Enjoying the Journey is a collection of 75 little stories that reflect God's wisdom and truth taken from every day life. 16 colour photographs by Dilshara Hill add a new dimension to a book that portrays the truth of God in Jesus Christ. 75 lovely sketches (also by Dilshara Hill) add a further distinctive flavour to the book. If you wish to know more about getting the most of every day life, this book is for you.
It could also be used as a devotional with little thoughts to inspire your spirit and deepen your walk with the Lord.
Anusha delights in many things – life, the love of Jesus, people, the beauty of God’s Creation. She writes mostly for pleasure. She has decided never to grow old in spite of a body that is already defying her intentions! She enjoys the finer things of life including friendship and chocolate! Singing, walking, connecting with people and sharing God’s love are her some of her deepest passions. Like her writing, she is a work in progress!
Anusha lives in Adelaide with her husband Shan and their son, Asela.
The Adelaide-based author wrote this book because she has both a ‘song in her heart’ and ‘a message to proclaim.’ Her underpinning faith shines through very clearly in these 75 conversationally written reflections which are full of the joy of living for Jesus.
Anusha Atukorala has paused to meditate more deeply on seemingly insignificant matters, drawing them out to illustrate aspects of the Christian life and our relationship with God. She sees that the whole of life, from the mundane and the irritating to the difficult and grief-filled, can be filled with meaning and purpose if we walk closely with Jesus and rely on his grace.
God has often nudged her through everyday domestic activities - a freshly made bed, misplaced glasses, shopping for furniture, weeds, washing clothes and cleaning the house. She makes perceptive observations on God’s hand in many different events and sees sacred truths in the ordinary.
She also deals with those day to day annoyances familiar to most of us – the emergence of grey hairs, unkind remarks, a friend who disappoints, a wheelie bin not put out - and she encourages the readers to examine their own hearts and minds in their approach to dealing with these issues. What she writes touches on our approach to other people, and above all our relationship with God.
The book is further enhanced by sketches and photos showing the beauty of God’s creation in the Australian environment. They were provided by her niece Dilshara Hill.

Anusha Atukorala has an uncanny knack of seeing God’s hand in the world around her. As she says in her introduction, God speaks to her in a myriad ways, nudging her through mundane events to see the wonder of creation. How many of us see things the way she does?Do we stop to marvel at birdsong, or do we just take it for granted? Anusha stops to drool over clouds , and sees in them, the hand of the Maker.Do we listen to the silence? Reading her book makes one realize “Aren’t we falling short of what God wants us to be? “The author really makes one think.Does my neighbor see me as one radiating the love of God?Do we thank God for the blessings showered on us , which we take so much for granted?
To quote from the book, “The next time you wonder if a little action is worth it, please be assured it is. A smile maybe just a smile , but it may make someone’s day. A kind word may be just one word, but it might cheer up a lonely heart that was yearning for it. Yes a little something is always better than a little nothing. Let me not forget that if I am faithful in the little things, I can look forward to being trusted with larger responsibilities for His Kingdom”. I like the way she compares entering a warm shower to entering into God’s loving presence. And again, when she says that standing at her kitchen window , she felt that it was almost like a sneak peak of heaven.
In the humdrum activities of daily life, she sees God everywhere. There is a lesson in this for all o f us readers. Her words inspire us to place more trust upon a loving God. The book is an embodiment of this dictum I came across recently. “Reach for the moon. If you miss it, you’ll still land among the stars”.
I was deeply blessed by this book. The author has a way of showing the hand of God in every-day life. Her gift of encouragement shines from the pages, giving a glimpse of God's face and His love in every word. This is the kind of book worth buying for relatives for Christmas, for those who are sick and struggling who need encouragement, and well, ... for everybody. I used a few of the snippets for our church bulletin to bless and encourage the congregation. If you need to look up, to feel joy again and to know Jesus is walking beside you every step of the way, this book is for you.
(1) The author has the charming ability to find God in the everyday, simple things in life. She delights in the beauty of His creation and hears His voice in the whisper of the wind and in the secret recesses of the heart. Ms Hill’s stunning photography and simple sketches at the start of each chapter enhance the gentle beauty of this devotional book. WN
