The drive to Shale City was, Anna had to admit to herself, beautiful. While she would rather have stayed at the Stanley Hotel, not because of its reputation for ghosts, but because of its beauty, grace, and charm, not to mention the fantastic views of Estes Valley and the approach to the Rocky Mountain National Park, this wasn’t all bad, either.
Still, Shale City, less than a bit over an hour to the southwest of Breckenridge, one of Colorado's most famous ski destinations, second only after Vail, was nothing to scoff at she drove the interstate over the foothills of west of Denver and into the Arapahoe National Forest, heading toward Breckenridge.
