A marriage of convenience has never been like this.
Just before her eighteenth birthday, the doctors tell Emily she has three months to live. Not much time to complete the bucket list she's had since she was twelve. The first item is the hardest--"Get married"--so she turns to the only man she knows who can help.
Paul, a barely reformed bad boy, has inherited a fortune from his mother, but his life is defined by his conflicted relationship with his father--a white-collar, organized-crime boss who, thanks to Paul, is being brought up on federal charges. Without Emily's testimony, his father might walk, so Paul agrees to her unconventional proposal. He'll be her husband for her last three months.
They agree that she'll testify against his father and he'll help her complete her bucket list. It's not supposed to be a true marriage. No consummation. No future. No love.
No love.
She's supposed to die, after all, and love might not be enough.
Noelle handwrote her first romance novel in a spiral-bound notebook when she was twelve, and she hasn't stopped writing since. She has lived in eight different states and currently resides in Virginia, where she teaches English, reads any book she can get her hands on, and offers tribute to a very spoiled cocker spaniel.
She loves travel, art, history, and ice cream. After spending far too many years of her life in graduate school, she has decided to reorient her priorities and focus on writing contemporary romances.
If someone would have told me I'd love this story so much, I wouldn't have believed them. But I do and there's nothing to do about it. What a tragic love story. I can't believe it's done. Can we get another one? There should've been a warning on these books: Read with caution, you may end up crying your eyeballs out. I fell in love with Paul during Emily's first fever. I fell deeper when he said he loved her and tried to look for a cure. I was sad and happy this was the end. You'll be missing out if you don't read this. Love it love it love it!!
Just when it looks like Emily is going to drift off into an endless sleep, blood work shows surprising results. Could Paul dare to hope??
Of course! Happy ending here we come! The latest treatment is working! The virus has all but disappeared! How to celebrate? Let's have another wedding! Cause we're staying married!
A short epilogue followed....
Then a bonus of deleted scenes which I admittingly did not read. I was happy with the story the first time. :)
Overall, I enjoyed this series. It was an emotionally fun journey, and the series of novellas was a great idea for this in my opinion. It was like watching a soap opera play out. To be continued....until next time....you get my point. The characters were likable, if not the most infuriatingly blind sometimes...Check it out!
This is a remarkable read. I loved every bit of it and thought it moved along at a good pace. I was not tempted to skim through any parts of the book.
The story is a gripping, emotional trip with wonderful, well-developed characters and I couldn't put it down. This is one that I will reread in a few months.
I fell in love with Paul and Emily. Wouldn't every woman want a Paul in her life? I know I sure would.
I only had a couple of small problems and the first was their ages. I felt they were more like 22 and 27 or something in that range. I am not sure any 17 year old could have that much depth and wisdom. The same goes for Paul as well. Secondly, I thought the "shower issue for Paul" was way too often and very immature. Had he no self control at all?
But as a whole, I adored this book series. I was glad to purchase it all in one. I would have gotten too frustrated waiting for each episode to come out.
This is a review for the whole series volumes 1 to 6 - 3.5 stars
I absolutely adored Paul and Emily..what started out as helping a dying girl achieve her bucket list developed into a full blown love affair despite everything that was thrown at them.
Paul and Emily knew each other vaguely there was a 6 year age gap but everyone knew Paul Marino, the trust fund baby, adrenaline junkie bad boy...that was all until his mum died where he then felt he had to do something with his life to make her proud. Emily was now familyless thanks to Vincent Marino (Paul's dad), unfortunately Emily had been at the wrong place at the wrong time and overheard incriminating evidence against Vincent Marino. He therefore tried the scare tactics to prevent them from going to the police. It was these scare tactics that made up Emily's mind to testify, she had lost her dad and now her aunt had died after contracting some mysterious virus which Paul believed his father was somehow responsible for as his father dealt in biological weapons at his laboratory. The final hand being dealt when Emily contracted the same virus and was given 3 months to live.
Paul felt responsible for Emily and vowed to take care of her, one of the items on her bucket list was to get married, so they did! In return Paul wanted her guarantee that she would testify against his father.
I don't want to reveal everything that happened between them but this story is a fabulous story about whilst caring for Emily through the illness and fevers they knew were going to kill her Paul helped her to cross off everything on her bucket list and the "sham" marriage eventually evolved into the real thing as they both fell in love with each other. It was beautifully written and I had really connected to the characters, I was rooting for them both..they had a lot to overcome, Vincent, the trial, the virus, the press, the age gap, the fight to find a cure, the list goes on!
You will have to read the series to find out the ending but I was not disappointed, I did however feel that the last instalment felt rushed and that more should have been said and done between Paul and Emily. I am a sucker for a fab epilogue and this did not disappoint. I also loved the cut chapters at the end. I do though wish it would have just been released as a complete book, luckily there were only a few weeks between each novella but I read the first two then waited for the next four so I could read the complete series. A lovely series by Noelle Adams I would definitely read more of her work!!!!
I started the series with high hopes. I found the premise really interesting and since I've read some on Noelle Adams books before I knew the writing would be good. But Wow! I did NOT expect this. It was Absolutely Amazing. It surpasses every expectation that I had. The first volume was just okay. I didn't really like Emily (she came across as far too defensive) but I loved Paul. The second volume got better. It still didn't blow my mind but it really riled up my interest and I started anticipating what was to come. I also began to like Emily a lot more. She turned out to be quite sweet and fun, a bit insecure, but that's just who she was. By the third vol., I was swept away. The series just kept getting better and I did not not want to put my book down. Vol.5 and beginning of 6 made me bawl like a baby. It broke my heart to watch Paul hold her hands and cry and the only thing that kept me going was that And yet I cried my eyes out. LISTED sent me on a highly turbulent roller coaster. It was filled with love, pain, tenderness, sympathy, terror and HOPE (ah the sweetest of feelings)! The story was heartfelt and I definitely feel that everyone should read it!
I seem to be one of few who didn't love the Listed novella series. It had such potential to be something amazing but it just didn't work for me. The 6th book felt unfinished and I still had questions I wanted answered and it was also the shortest out of all 6 books and just felt rushed.
This came recommended when I was looking for books where the Hero takes care of the Heroine. My review is for the whole series. I usually don't like 3rd person books and haven't read very many but this one wasn't bad. I adored Paul but Emily was just ok for me. There were parts that felt a bit rushed and I found myself skimming a bit but overall it wasn't bad and it was exactly what I was looking for in my request. Paul was such a sweet caretaker and I enjoyed their progression into a real relationship.
Adams Affairs #9 Listed #6 Final part in an underwhelming series which seemed quite obvious for the most part and quite dull for the other. There are fans out there, but not this reader.
I finished the series today and am thrilled with how it went. I loved the relationship between Paul and Emily. I look forward to reading more books by this author.
I finished the series and here is my overall review...
What a fantastic read! I have to say, I am fairly impressed with Noelle Adam and I am so happy I took on a risk and decided to read Listed
When I first read the summary I was a little impressed, but kind of nervous because of the lack of reviews, but I figured since there’s 6 novellas it wouldn’t hurt to start with one.
[Summary]
Emily has 3 months to live. She has compiled a list of 14 things she wants to do before she dies and one of them is to get married. Paul wants Emily to testify in his father’s trial because she overheard incriminating evidence that would help put Paul’s father in jail. Emily tells Paul she will testify if Paul helps Emily complete her list, including marrying her. Paul agrees.
[Review]
Okay, so you are probably thinking is this going to be a sad book? Yes and no. Yes because Emily is dying and no because the story is so unrealistic. I basically read it as a fantasy. I am a huge fan of the whole damsel-in-distress story line and Listed is so there.
One of the most important things I look for in any romance novel is character development between the Hero and Heroine and you get that in Listed . I love there is no insta-love. I didn’t want Paul to look at Emily and magically fall in love with her, but I also didn’t want Paul to dislike her either. Paul treated Emily on a business-like level in the beginning and it was just really nice seeing the friendship form.
My favorite part is when Emily started to get symptoms and the story kind of shifted. You felt bad for Emily, yet it was really nice seeing Paul take care of Emily and going crazy with the fact that the girl is dying. Tragic I know, but it makes for a great read. There are a few steamy parts, but overall the story is pretty mild.
I really liked the writing style and flow of the book. Everything worked for me and I’m going to keep Noelle Adams on my radar.
Does reading novellas suck? Yeah, it does usually, but each book is pretty lengthy on its own (compared to other books that are broken into multiple parts), each is about 80 pages (except for the last part). You could buy the whole series and save a dollar (I would recommend that).
I think the ending is pretty obvious so don’t expect tears. If you want something light and you like the “save-me” theme kind of book, then Listed is for you.
I'm a sucker for romance novels. I absolutely loved this and I absolutely loved Paul! I wonder where the Pauls of the real world are hiding...But anyway, Emily and Paul's story was unlike any I've read before.
I was asking myself what could become of their marriage of convenience what with the impending "reality" they were anticipating and trying to hold off at the same time. I don't want to make a full review I don't even want to write a review about this simply because I don't want to end up spoiling it for others who haven't gone through the series.
What I can definitely say is that I laughed, I cried, I ached, and I hoped with both Paul and Emily (but with Paul mostly) throughout their story and ordeal. I felt the agony of the situation especially in Book V, but I was deeply touched by Paul's devotion to Emily right from the get-go. It sparked a flame of hope inside me as I went on to finish the rest of the books. I'm positive others would feel the same, too, after they finish the series.
I've had this in my digital library since February, I think, but I never got around to starting it. When I found myself with more time to spare after work on a rainy Friday afternoon, I decided to read it. I'm so glad I did. It has strung me in an emotional high which I hope would last enough for me to start with another good book.
I take my hat off to Ms. Noelle Adams for coming up with a plot like this and I can't wait to read more of her books.
As a parting shot, I just want to say that the relationship of Paul and Emily has only made me strengthen my belief on love, hope, and faith. If only others would have the kind of relationship Paul and Emily did (minus the virus part), the world would be a better place to live in. Okay...now I'm being mushy. Time to shut up...I'm still giddy with the story, though!
This particular story was on my shelf, I don't know for so long that i even forgot about it, and then i found it, Am i glad for it, damn right.. I am damn glad I found this series and read it and enjoyed it, cried with it, laugh with it, made my eyes sore with it, I would say I got lost in the whole series.. I am not so fast reader so it took me whole day to read whole book and i was glued in it, as it was so captive..
A marriage of Convenience has never meant to be as this...
I liked the whole plot, which on first read sounded cheesy ( i won't lie) but as the story progress I found their is nothing cheesy about it, everything was hearthwarming, from Paul to Emily and their life, struggle, Love, sacrifice, pain, compassion, understanding, hate, insecurities, fight, ego everything was just so much.... It was beautifully balance that both of the characters were complimenting each other rather taking a charger over each other...
I just Love how the writer have shown a plot of marriage, how it should be balanced by both the parties, both need to sacrifice, both need to understand and put their ego in a bucket of cold water... i guess i liked that part most when you fall in Love with your husband/wife. Some people don't understand the logic of Love after marriage, i guess we should give those people this series to read... ;)
Thoroughly I enjoyed everything from this book.. Okay not everything but so much that those little things doesn't matter...
This is just another typical story about a fake marriage while one of the couple was having a terminal disease... Not!
First,it was just a virus. But a terminal one, yes. She only has three months to live and to accomplish everything on her bucket list. There was nothing ordinary about the story. Even the characters are not perfectly flawless. They're truly human in all the definition of the word. They have bad hair days, they have their flaws and weaknesses, they have attitude problems some times and they get "not-in-the-mood."
I like how everything happened gradually, no fast forward, no rush. There was nothing sudden or abrupt. You have to read through it slowly and deeply. And before you noticed, you've fallen head over heels for the characters and their story like you are actually witnessing everything they are presently going through.
As I finished one volume after another, I can't help feeling that it just kept getting better and better, but at the same time it kept getting worst. It was bittersweet. It was undramatically sensational.
It was spectacular.
I especially love the epilogue and the bonus "deleted scenes".
You've done really well on this well Ms. Noelle Adams, you've just become one of my favorite authors of all time.
"I'd marry you every day for the rest of my life, if I could."
"There were some fights you just couldn't win."
"You were my miracle. I didn't think I would get two."
Loved this series!! Each book was short and sweet while drawing me in to want more. Paul was my hero from the start and made each book better with his love and devotion for Emily. Perfect romance story!!
What a great and terrible (mostly great) way to end! Ms. Adams, the heartbreak you put us through in the final volume was absolute, sweet torture!
Paul's passion was lovely to read once again. He's a great bad-boy to fall for and perfect for Emily. Emily's drive and resilience is something to strive for, as is her unfailing love for Paul.
I don't want to say too much to ruin it, but I'm glad Paul finally has a family . Emily's illness also had me biting my nails until it was resolved, and I'm so glad it ended the way it did.
Overall, I would highly recommend reading this whole series. It's fantastic and will have your heart on a seemingly, never-ending rollercoaster, but it's definitely worth it. I will definitely be waiting to read Ms. Adams' subsequent works.
I hate the new way some authors are doing these serial novels. Putting out only a chapter or two at a time. The story itself was pretty good, a bit choppy here and there...mainly due to the way the book was cut up into 6 parts I think. I like to be able to read an entire story all the way through. Which is why I didn't even attempt to read this until the whole thing was done. I suggest anyone wanting to read this do the same. get all the parts. I think if I had read part one then had to wait for part two I never would have finished the book. it was good...not great.
This was a well written series of books which kept me thoroughly entertained. I liked both main characters, shared their joys and pain and felt like I got to know them. The story idea was unique, and I especially enjoyed that the characters were so young, I enjoyed watching them mature and grow in love. A very sweet and intense love story.
I don't understand why the books needed to be written this way rather than one novel, but that didn't detract from the enjoyment of reading them. I will definitely read other books from this author. Highly recommended.
As a commet to the book as a whole I have to say I loved it.
Talk about a rollercoaster of emotions. Rather impressive all we go through while reading each volume.
Listed was heartbreaking and sweet and tender and a tear-jerker all at once. I particularly loved volumes two to four, where we get to see Emily and Paul's relationship slowly growing into more than a simple marriage of convenience, where we get to experience the ups and downs more vividly than ever.
As an overall rating I'd give this novel 4 stars. It is definitely worth checking out.
I really enjoyed this series and I was very much looking forward to the final book. I felt a little let down by this one because although I loved the ending, I thought that it was just too abrupt and there was more story to be told--more explanation needed of certain events and their outcomes. It was well done but this one was just missing something that the other volumes had. Overall, good story and an enjoyable read.
I'd give the series overall (six serialized volumes) 3.5 stars. I enjoyed the story. It was predictable and a little formulaic, but I liked it enough to buy the last three parts after getting the first three for free. I liked the transformation of Paul's character from aimless rich kid to decent gentleman. The scenes with him taking care of Emily in her sickest days were the best for me. I wondered if this was going to go the way of A Walk to Remember. It doesn't. HEA.
prefect ending to this six part series!! I absolutely LOVED it!!!!! I waited till I had all six parts before reading and I am glad I did! This was such an awesome story!!! It was written so well and watching the characters grow and mature in their relationship was amazing!!! I highly recommend this series!! I know I would read again!!!!
I absolutely loved this story. It was beautiful and heartbreaking and so full of love. I had read a review before reading this that the characters were too mature for their age, but I think given the situation they were forced to grow up and I thought they were perfect. It was actually very refreshing for me to finally see adults acting like adults in a story.
I really, really enjoyed this book(books? lol). So incredibly(sp?!) sweet!!! Loved Paul and Emily so very much. And that epilogue(Im a sucker.for epilogues) was perfect!!! The ride wasnt perfect...but if a book make me happy at the end and put a silly smile on my face..is a 5 stars for me.
The last one, and even if I knew she wouldn't die. . .still that climax got me so much tired, I think I wasn't even breathing when Emily had her last string of fever, and I felt so helpless for Paul, but it ended so well.
Paul having good times with his father. . .and them having babies!
I cried so much reading this last book. You could just feel Paul's pain come off the pages. As Emily comes loser to deaths door Paul is fighting so hard to find a cure. Will they have there happy ending?
