A veteran riding instructor offers authoritative advice on purchasing, handling, and caring for a horse, providing the foundation needed for a lifetime of happy horse ownership.
A good book for people just getting into horses and riding. The photos are black and white, in case that bothers anyone, but the information is basic and useful. I've been riding for several years (although not well :-)) and while much of it was information I already knew, I also got some new tips from it. One or two of the words or phrases were never explained, which was rather annoying, especially since it's a book for beginners; a glossary would have been nice. I wouldn't recommend it as the sole book for beginners. Still, it's quite a nice introduction and would make a nice addition. It's definitely written with the Western rider in mind, but except for the parts about saddles and advanced maneuvers, most of the information would be just as useful for English riders too.
