As a long-time writer of nonfiction (that's right, all you storytellers out there, you'll never have to worry about competition from me), I've thought about publishing an ebook a few times. What kept me from actually trying to do that, though, is one of the first requirements mentioned in this book: You have to know enough about something - from personal experience - before you can pass it on to others. The author does, however, point out that the knowledge doesn't have to be extensive enough to fill hundreds of pages; find a particular niche, narrow your topic to fit and stick to it.
He does exactly that in this short (71 pages) ebook, explaining what you need to do - assuming, unlike me, you really do have information to share - from concept to outline to first draft to publication. And while he says it's possible to get from start to finish in 21 days, he emphasizes that speed is secondary to quality (hmmmm, I know a few big-time fiction writers who would do well to remember that one).
Still other helpful points that yanked my "you betcha" chain include reading your finished work aloud (to make sure you didn't inadvertently leave out words or make other grammatical errors) and get yourself a proofreader (to which I'd add make that two or three). This book won't do the job for you, of course, but it does provide a solid framework for getting you on the right track.
Well, I guess I already knew how to write an ebook—which is to say, how to write a book. Steve Scott’s how-to manual did offer some good tips in terms of writing for the genre, which is different from writing a traditional, standard 400-pager. But I still don’t have the faintest idea how to publish an ebook—nor will anyone who just reads this book without following all the suggested links and doing a great deal of additional research.
So it may be said that this book may “point the way” for someone starting out on a journey to find out how to publish original online books. However, if you're looking for a comprehensive guide that provides the answers to all your questions, you may be disappointed, as I was.
This book is worth reading for the discussions on research alone. If you follow Mr. Scott's advice, you will stand a much better chance of writing something that someone might actually read. After all, isn't that the whole point of writing a book in the first place?
Steve really helped me finally get my book published. I'd been kicking around an idea for years and this book helped me put it to paper and get it out in the world. This is a must read for anyone thinking about writing a book. Get it done!
This was one of my kindle books read earlier in the year, so a late review. This book was written by Steve Scott who has published many ebooks on amazon, so he should know what he's writing about! This book has a wealth of information and would be an asset to anyone thinking of writing an ebook or has even written one but wasn't too successful, there would be some helpful information on how to make a success of their next book. I only marked it 4 instead of 5 because for the likes of people like me who are not at all familiar with publishing or with the terms used, or the sites given out, then we would more guidance, like teaching your grandparents how to use a computer!
I love how this work is a perfect example of all the techniques it recommends in action. The content is to the point and very actionable, and lays everything out as essentially step by step i!instructions. I'd love a companion material of a 3 week calendar visual of what each of the sections will be for reference (I'll do it myself). Overall I feel this book has empowered me and my writer friends to pursue what is possible in self publishing nonfiction ebooks!
Outstanding book with numerous ideas for non fiction writers The book is a fast read filled with suggestions related to time management, writing schedules, developing contents, outlines, rough drafts, cover designs, proof reading and editing. Not sure everyone reading the book can accomplish all this in 21 days but the outlined ideas will help authors reduce their times.
While the book provides a process for writing a book in 21 days, it does not provide much insight on how to write a book worth reading. Thousands of writers are cranking out books with little concern for quality and impact. Readers have limited time and don't need another mediocre book.
I'm blown away! This step-by-step guide is perfect for anyone who wants to write an eBook but doesn't have a lot of time. Scott's 9-step process is easy to follow and covers everything from finding a great topic to optimizing your eBook listing. If you've been struggling to write an eBook, this book is the solution you've been looking for. Highly recommended!
a quick read, easy to skimm. There is nothing mind blowing in this book, you could probably think of most steps yourself. But you probably wont and just start writing and forget some important steps. Skimm this book first. Just consider it a checklist.
This book will always stay on my kindle as a reference guide. If you want to write an eBook this is an essential. Easy to read and packed with lots of practical advice. Time to get started on my book now.
I found this book to be filled with ideas. Normally I take notes when I read and this results in my note taking every several or more pages, but this book basically had useful info on every page. I didn't even bother to take notes. Really good book.
Sometimes I feel that I'm never going to get anything published and along comes a book that assures me this is not the case. I liked it. Easy to read and digest and makes me think that tomorrow is the day! Day 1 of 21 days and counting:-)
Such a quick book to read but loaded with amazing content. I should have read this book years ago. But oh well, I've read it now and can't wait to get started implementing it in my daily writing.
I did not learn too many new things, but I did appreciate this little book as a refresher of old knowledge. Also, it got me writing again, so there you go.
I enjoyed this book. I found some really good advice for getting my book written quickly.although this 21 day model doesn't include advertising and promoting.
It is a comolete and simple step by step guide on how to write a nonfiction book. One of the bests about writing . I have read a lot of them. I am really happy.
I started reading this book because I was trying to find a way to make a little extra money while in college. This book provides a no-nonsense step by step approach to publishing. The advice and plan outlined in this book make sense and it is packed with useful resources and tips. I must read for an aspiring E-publisher.
