James Fields Jr is the Master of Disguise, a Magician of Words and the rabbit has just been pulled out of his hat!!! He has charmed me with his first book of the Antonio Cruz Series, Casino Shuffle and then again followed up with its sequel Bad Beat. We met Antonio Cruz Head Butler to the stars, at the Sun Casino Resort. We dabbled with a short piece he sent called Escape From Lamu Island recently, and then were sent a totally different genre, a horror story called The Woodsman and the Wolf which scared the wits out of me. Today I am reviewing Respect the Dojo that Mr Fields has sent and as I write this my eyes are still running and my tummy hurts from laughing so hard.

Mr Fields takes us on a romantic comedy ride, that is serious really but as always he seems to find humor in it. Relationships! Boy meets girl, boys lusts girl, girl lusts boy, they marry, have children…Ouch! So how do you keep the hott stuff going??

Scott Thompson designs story boards. He works from home. He is married to Kaylee who he adores. Scott has put on a few pounds since he got married, but working from home has him craving cupcakes and pizza rather than carrots sticks. Kaylee has a good job and they have a wonderful six year old son Miles; life is good or is it? Kaylee doesn’t want the spark to go out in their personal relationship. She drags Scott to couples classes, to couples cooking classes and tries any thing not to have the oomph to leave their marriage. She is determined her marriage will not be a statistic, boring.

The first scene in the story sets the tone for the book. Okay this is the only semi spoiler I will give you….Scott has a rendezvous; he parks the car down the street of the address. He walks up the front steps and rings the bell and a pretty woman comes to the door, dressed in a skimpy dress. He is invited in, they kiss, they strip and they start to play…foot steps on the porch. It could be his lovers husband coming home early….The door starts to open…..STOP…You have to read this now to actually appreciate this story!! James Fields has the gift of timing, and that is seen in all the humor he sprinkles through his stories. It is a gift that many wish for but never achieve.

Scott always tries to indulge Kaylee’s wishes. He bumps into Lia the Asian young lady they met at the couples cooking class. She and her family own the local Chinese take out. She tells him that his marriage can be helped but he needs to go see her uncle Master Fuk. From this moment on the book is a free for all of fun, more double entendres than you can shake a stick at. Want to laugh and read a book that will brighten your day? This book delivers. I loved it, and I still cannot stop smiling. Sometimes you need a good feeling after reading a story and I hope it leaves you with one as it did me.

J. Fields has done it again, he had me laughing so hard I had to wipe my eyes and run to the restroom in fear of an accident. This time he tackles the age old question, does getting married and having kids really mean you give up a sex life?

Scott and Kaylee Thompson have a good life, a beautiful six year son named Miles, a nice home and decent jobs. What they don’t have is the excitement they had in the beginning, the bloom is definitely off the rose. Kaylee is determined to get that bloom back and loving his wife more than anything, Scott is willing to go along with her wild ideas. Take one loving wife, one precocious child and one reluctant husband, mix together with a mysterious Chinese master and a few well meaning friends and you get a recipe for laughter and one mishap after another.

We first met author J. Fields when we were introduced to the behind the scenes world of Native Sun Casino and it’s head butler, Antonio Cruz and immediately fell in love with his writing. It didn’t take long to realize that Mr. Fields has a slightly off beat sense of humor and isn’t afraid to use it. In Respect the DoJo he lets it fly and watch out if you happen to be in the way because you might split a side laughing. He has filled this book full of off beat characters and more double entendres than you can shake a stick at.

Scott Thompson is slightly overweight, he draws storyboards and most days sits at his desk at home in front of his computer. Kaylee works for an employment agency, keeps in shape and has a sense of adventure. They are great parents and raise their son Miles with more than a little humor and a lot of love. Like most couples who have been married for a while their love life leaves a little to be desired and Kaylee has all sorts of ideas and schemes to get it back on track. She leads Scott from one wacky adventure to another which she plunges head first into and Scott reluctantly goes along with her. One of these adventures leads Scott to meet Master Fuk who says he can help Scott with his marital problems. Scott is a little reluctant but goes along and learns more than one lesson.

I can’t begin to describe all the offbeat and whacky characters we meet in this book and will not even attempt it. I can say that each one is so out there that you can’t help but love them all. Mr. Fields gives them some of the best lines I’ve ever read, even Miles gets a few good zingers in. When I read the first scene I knew I was in for a good time, I literally was laughing so hard I was crying and it just kept going.

I’m not going to give away the plot but I will say look out for so many twists and turns you might get whiplash, and if you like just plain fun, this is the book for you. So strap on your seat belts, keep your hands and feet inside the vehicle at all times and enjoy the ride.
