The story I’m about to tell you for the most part is true. I say for the most part because no one’s memory is truly perfect. Plus I’ve taken the liberty of changing a few things here and there to protect the lives of the humans I’ve recently befriended. They have come to mean a great deal to me and I would hate to see anything happen to them. It’s not their fault I have this great urge to tell my life story. So why tell it, you ask? First of all, it’s not my entire life story. Most of it is boring and dull, like average people’s everywhere. I’ve lived it and wouldn’t want to read it. Second, it’s still going on and would take volumes to record the centuries I have yet ahead of me. Yes, you read right, I said centuries. My life isn’t average anymore. I am a creature of the night…a vampire. This is the tale of what happened when I decided to beg for a chance at immortality. You know the type of split-second decision that tends to change things forever. This was one of those. Don’t laugh this off. Humans truly do not know whether my kind exists or not. We like it that way. The Hollywood myths and rumors make our lives much easier to live. Besides, most humans refuse to accept what is right in front of their faces, until it’s too late. Well, you have a copy of my story in your hands right now and I can tell you’re dying to read it. Be warned it’s a graphic little tale. I have left none of the important details out and have done a few things you might find repulsive. But you’re only human, after all. Go ahead and read on. You will find it a very educational experience, to say the least. Keep reading; I know you can’t resist.
C.J. Galaway was born in a small town in Pennsylvania in the peak of the summer season. It wasn’t until three months later she would meet her family through adoption and become the youngest of three children. Though since her two older siblings are at least twenty years older, it was like being an only child.
C.J. grew up in a world of adults in a neighborhood with no children her age to play with, so her mother instilled in her a love of reading. She couldn’t imagine a time she wasn’t reading. “I grew up without computers, PS3 or XBOX, and cable T.V.,” she laughs. “So my favorite way to pass the time was to lose myself in a good book. I could easily read three to four a week.”
School was never that important to her, some studies came easy but for the most part it was boring for her. She was the quiet kid who sat in the back of your junior/senior high school classes doing anything but what the teacher wanted her to do. Although she would develop a passion for learning and return to college later in life to earn her bachelor’s degree from California University of Pennsylvania.
It was in junior high she started putting pen to paper and writing down what she imagined in her mind. An English teacher encouraged her to keep writing after enjoying a story she had written for extra credit over the holidays. “I had played with imaginary friends as a child and would lay out these elaborate scenarios in my mind for what would happen that day,” C.J. recalls. “It was easy to transfer that planning from my play time onto paper.”
It is from that love or reading and an over active imagination in childhood that the idea for her first novel Bite Marks was born…
i dont want to give to much away. but the use of characters in this is amazing. futhermore the views on being a vampire: its giving the glamour but its made more realistic. a true blend of nightmares and night time seduction. although i found i couldnt fully relate to angel, i found her fun thrilling funny and sassy. its a page turner and a well written frist work. why only three stars? well ive personally resevered five stars for books that change my ife. this one will change your nights, fill your days and nake you want to show your fangs;) a must read!!
love the story. gives a whole new light to the becoming of and life of a vampire. well done
Second time around was even better. Characters were well developed, loved the "pop culture" references and the feeling that Angela was actually talking to the reader.
Wow, I am almost speechless. First, I rarely read the paranormal or sic-fi genres and have only read a few vampire stories that I have liked. Most of the Bite Marks reviews have done well describing the story and covering the main details. The author, Galaway, grabs your interest right away. She has an easy going method of story telling that has you hanging on each word you read. This book has it all: sex, violence, suspense, drama, and surprising twists, that will keep you wanting more. Early in the story we learn the main character is a stripper who is bisexual. Later she must face her personal demons and make a choice, a choice not based just on sex, but love. When love captures her heart and drama ensues, she decides. Mistakes made in relationships can cost or strengthen them, even with vampires. What happens and how will it all play out? Do not get lost into thinking that this is just a lesbian story, it is far more and told well. A vampire tale with an intriguing story that has you seeing the characters as alive humans. I have read vampire stories that are written so gross and dark that I haven’t like the characters or rooted for them. Not so in this story, Galaway creates and allows her characters to evolve in such a way that you like and care about them. C.J. Galaway has gifted paranormal fans with a hot story that will have them thirsty for more!!!
I finally finished this book last night. And after meeting and getting to know this author on a more personal level, if I were to be anything other than completely and utterly blunt would be doing her a disservice. Superb story line and subplot. Wonderfully executed. To intertwine the characters in such a way as they grab your attention and hold it with such power and emotion is nothing short of a genius mind at work. To develop and deliver such a powerful story in under 300 pages truly amazed me. Totally fell in love with the characters, and the story leaves just enough things unanswered to make you hope there will be another book to explain those particular characters in more depth. Would love to see more about the professor and why he was the way he is? Just how old is Don and why is he single in this book or is he? What becomes of Julie and Amanda? I recommend anyone to read this book, OH HELL YES, you are missing out if you don't. I am starting her second book Blood Ties, today after reading the preview for it in the back of Bite Marks. I cant wait to see how this one turns out. And I hope we get more books to the original story line of Bite Marks giving us more insight to the characters. I am glad I picked up 2 copies of each of these books and had them signed at a book signing and they will now become part of my personal treasured books that I will never give up.
Galaway raises the Vampire genre to adult heights and returns it to its roots in her debut novel Bite Marks. While the story delivers suspense and chills on the surface, it also delivers on the basic questions of what it means to be human. Angela has lived with superficial relationships until she meets Amanda who helps her become a vampire. Her mercurial relationship with Amanda runs the gamut from student, to lover, to friend and confidant.
Galaway tantalizes us with a sub plot in the form of Professor Fairway, who is determined to prove that Vampires exist. Will he find the proof he wants or will he destroy the vampire community? Meanwhile the vampire community is busy with their own concerns, primarily drinking blood.
Galaway uses sex as her primary tool for exploring humanity. Angela starts as a stripper and grows in her relationship with Amanda, learning to love and commit. One of the vampire characters tells us, “Sexual energy is good for a vampire.” Galaway delivers plenty of sexual energy in both hetero and lesbian relationships.
This whole complex story is well crafted and delivered with a delightful touch of humor. This is a must read for the vampire aficionada or those who like to read about girl on girl sex.
"Bite Marks" by C.J. Galaway is an unusual but very enjoyable Vampire story. It starts off with the story of a young and independent woman cutting her family ties over her job as a stripper. She is a likable character and many of us can realte to her situation. She becomes a vampire and we witness with realistic (as much as that is possible in paranormal fantasy of course) scenes how the transformation process begins. The book got its own take on Vampire life but has the usual fun ingredients of blood and sex in it. Definitely recommended for fans of fantasy and paranormal and imo one of the better ones in the genre.
I loved this book. Despite the fact that I don't usually read vampire stories, I found these characters both realistic and easy to like. I definitely became invested in what happened to the characters and was hooked early on in the novel. I enjoyed the way the story ended, for the most part. There was one character that met a demise who made me sad, but that is reality for you. If there is a sequel to this book, I will definitely read it! I look forward to reading more from this author in the future.
This book has an interesting concept and it was a fairly good read. One of the things I quickly noticed was all the typos!! Definitely need a better editor.
I wish the author would have taken a little more time on parts such as the fights and intimacy. It felt rushed to me. Overall, I am interested in reading more from this author.
First off, the cover is very compelling and gains marks just for that. Oops, no pun intended. LOL.
Angela is a head-strong, don't-care-about-nothing type of person. She's not looking for any type of relationship, especially love. Her best friend is Darcy, who owns a strip club, and they both strip & dance together, much to the delight of the patrons. One night Angela is prowling, looking for a mark for a fun night, when she runs across Amanda, a vampire. Without much fore thought, she asks Amanda to turn her, and she does. So starts Angela's life as a vampire. And she has a lot to learn, or more like unlearn. Now she finds herself the target of a deranged Professor whose's trying to prove the existence of vampires. Which one will survive?
The characters are engaging and if you love vampire books, you'll enjoy this tale.
This is an interesting book with a great story line and believable characters. Vampires and horror are not my thing and I’m probably too old to relate to the sexual activities of the protagonist but I have to say it was a story that kept me turning the page.
I bought the book because I felt I was missing out with so many vampire books available. Wow! If this is any example of what these books are like I'm going to have to read more of them.
Our hero is Angela and through various events becomes a vampire. Although fantasy, this book is written so well the characters and the events are believable.
If you like horror, sex, vampires wrapped up in a well-written book then I can highly recommend this story. I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.
Bite Marks stands out in a crowded subgenre of horror fiction featuring vampire stories. This book takes a new angle on the vampire tale, in particular, elaborating on the process of making the transition from human to vampire and the techniques used to hunt humans. Angela's story of transformation is set in the context of an off-the-beaten-path, almost underground, world of strip clubs and the dancers who work in them. The setting serves as a proper backdrop for this sexually explicit vampire story written almost as a memoir. There's a lot of humor, too. The tongue-in-cheek narrative stops just short of becoming 'camp'--especially when playing off the Hollywood stereotypes of vampires and their lifestyle as immortals. An appealing story for fans of adult vampire fiction. Five Stars!
Giving up at 20%. Some good ideas in this, and I'm intrigued by the parallels with my own S&tM, but ultimately I find the style of writing too frustrating.
