About the author

Her writing focuses on contemporary social issues. She is a perceptive observer of the changing urban milieu and her writing closely examines the contemporary Bengali middle class. Crisis in human relationships and the changing values of the present era along with degeneration of the moral fibre of the society in the backdrop of globalisation and consumerism are depicted in her prose. Exploitations and sufferings of women regardless of their social or economic identities find a distinct voice in her writing. While she is famous for her writing on women's issues, she does not consider herself as a feminist. She took up many odd jobs in her early youth and finally joined the public service which she left in 2004 to become a fulltime writer. Her long career is reflected in many of her stories and novels.

Over the past two decades, Suchitra has written about 24 novels and a large number of short stories in different leading Bangla literary magazines. Some of her acclaimed novels are Kachher Manush (Close to Me), Dahan (The Burning), Kacher Dewal(The Wall Of Glass), Hemonter Pakhi(Bird of Autumn), Neel Ghurni, Aleek Shukh(Heavenly happiness), Gabhir Ashukh (A Grave Illness), Uro Megh(Flying Cloud), Chhera Taar, Alochhaya(Shadows Of Light), Anyo Basanto(Another Spring), Parabas, Palabar Path Nei, Aami Raikishori, Rangin Pritibi and Jalchhobi among others. Her novels and short stories have been translated into many Indian languages such as Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Oriya, Marathi, Gujarati, Punjabi and English. She also writes novels and short stories for children. Her novel Dahan was made into a movie by famous Bengali director, Rituparno Ghosh.

মিতিন। ভালো নাম প্রজ্ঞাপারমিতা। সুচিত্রা ভট্টাচার্য্যের এই গোয়েন্দা চরিত্রটুকুর মিস ওয়াটসন অবশ্যই বোনঝি টুপুর। মিতিনের সাথে আমার পরিচয় শুধু নাম দিয়ে। আপাতদৃষ্টিতে মিতিন একজন বিচক্ষণ মহিলা। তাই বলে ফেলু মিত্তির, শবর, ব্যোমকেশ বক্সী এর মত আশা করে লাভ নেই। কিন্তু পড়ার সময় এদের ছাপ আবছাভাবে পাবেন নিশ্চয়ই।

গল্পের শুরুতে উৎপল নামে পার্থের এক খ্রিস্টান বন্ধু দেখা করতে আসে। তার শ্বশুর জোনাথনের বাড়িতে গত কদিন ধরে হোলি স্পিরিট বা ভূতের আগমন ঘটেছে। ভুত বন্ধ ঘরে চেয়ার টেবিল সরাচ্ছে আওয়াজ করছে। মানুষের কাজ হওয়া সম্ভব নয়, বিড়াল হলেও হতে পারে। কিন্তু গত কদিন ধরে আবার বাল্ব ফেটে যাচ্ছে। গ্লাস ভেঙে যাচ্ছে বাড়ির। জোনাথনকে আবার সুরজমল নামে এক ডেভেলপার বাড়ি বিক্রির অফার করেছে। জোনাথন বিক্রি করবেন না এই বাড়ি। তার দিদিমার মাকে উপহার দেয়া বাড়ি। কিন্তু জোনাথনের ছেলে ডিক আবার এসব পছন্দ করছে না। বোন মির্নার সাথেও সম্পর্ক ভালো না। দুলাভাই উৎপলের সাথে অবশ্য সম্পর্ক ভালো। সুরজমলই কি আসলে ভুতের স্রষ্টা? নাকি আসলেই সেটা হোলি স্পিরিট। মিসেস জোনস, যার স্বামী প্যারালাইজড, তাই বাড়ির পরিচারিকা, তিনিও নাকি হোলি স্পিরিট দেখেছেন। এদিকে এই গোলোকধাঁধায় আরেকটি বড় রহস্য। এই বাড়িতে নাকি জোনাথনের দিদিমার বাবা গুপ্তধন লুকিয়ে গেছেন। উইলেও বলেছেন, “দোজ হু শেল লঙ্গার ফর মাই ট্রেজার শ্যাল গো টু মাই গ্রেইভ”। মৃত্যু! কেন? ভূত নাকি মানুষ? লৌকিক না অলৌকিক! সাদামাটা বর্ণনায় এক জটিল রহস্য উপন্যাস।


উপন্যাসের ঘটনাবলী খুব সুন্দরভাবে সাজানো। থ্রিল ফিলিংটা না এলেও একটা আয়েশি ভাব আছে। আমার খারাপ লাগেনি। বেশ ভালোই।

সত্যি বলতে কি অপরাধী কে সেটা টুপুরের নোট পড়েই আন্দাজ করেছিলাম। কিন্তু সূত্রে গাঁথতে পারছিলাম না। মিতিনমাসী সুন্দর মিলিয়ে দিলো!

তবে লুকানো গুপ্তধন কি ছিল সেটা ঘুণাক্ষরেও টের পাইনি!!

বিশাল গল্প। পড়তে পড়তে খেই হারিয়ে যাবার মত প্রায়।
ঘটনার ঘনঘটায় গল্প প্রায় এগোতেই চায়না।
গোয়েন্দা গল্পের সবচাইতে খারাপ বিষয় হল এসিস্ট্যান্টকে দিয়ে সমস্ত চরিত্রের, চরিত্র লেখানো - এবং ঠিক সেটাই এখানে হয়েছে।
পুরো উপন্যাসের তাল কাটার জন্য ওইটি যথেস্ট।
আর কাকতালীয় ব্যাপার স্যাপার যত ঘটবে, তত গভীরতা কমবে গল্পের, এটিও তার ব্যতিক্রম নয়। আর গুপ্তধনের ক্লু এতটাই দূর্বল যেকোনো কেউই এটি উদ্ধার করতে পারবে। তারজন্য তিন প্রজন্ম অপেক্ষা করে থাকতে হয়না।
এটি কিশোর পাঠ্য গোয়েন্দা কাহিনী এবং লেখনী সবল। পড়তে গিয়ে বিষম লাগবে না।
পার্থ মেসোর চরিত্রটিকে প্রায় জোর করে ঢোকানো হয়েছে এবং সেটি শুধুই ইতিহাস শোনানোর জন্যই। সমস্ত গল্পেই তাই।

মিতিন মাসী সমগ্রতে ইনভেস্ট করবো কিনা বুঝতে এই বইটা হাতে পেয়ে পড়ে ফেলা। খুব যে ভালো লেগেছে ত বলবো না, কিন্তু খারাপও না। আসলে দুনিয়ার সকল ডিটেকটিভ গল্পের এক্সেস না থাকলে হয়ত এটা খারাপ লাগতো না, এখন খুব আহামরি কিছু মনে হয়নাই আর কী। খুবই সিম্পল, লিনিয়ার গল্প, বেশী প্যাচঘোচ নাই। যেটা বিরক্তিকর, সেটা হলো মিতিনের স্বামী পার্থর খাই খাই স্বভাব। এই জিনিসটা মোটেই কিউট লাগে নাই৷ বরংচ একজন গ্রোন অ্যাস বাচ্চার বাপ ব্যাটার ক্ষেত্রে আচরণটা খুবই নিম্নমানের স্থুল রসিকতার বিষয় বলে মনে হইসে। টুপুর এসিস্ট্যান্ট হিসেবে তেমন কাজের না। এখানে সূচিত্রা দেবী তাকে কিছুটা তোপসে চরিত্রে দেখাতে চাইলেও তোপসের মনে হয় একটু বুদ্ধি বেশী!

I really don't have any words, I just thoroughly enjoyed this book. The story revolves around a very old house that is believed to be haunted and Minatimashi is trying to solve the mystery behind this house. And that leads to various twists and turns! I just loved how the author narrated the history of Kolkata and also history of many interesting aspects related to the story. It was like I was revisiting the city of joy once again through the story. I really loved the characters and how the story ended too!
Overall, it's a short and good read!

মোটামুটি ভালোই লাগলো.... খুব একটা ঘোরপাঁচ নেই গল্প তে..তাই কিশোর দের জন্য বেশ মজার....তবে হ্যা যারা নতুন ডিফেক্টিভ গল্প পড়তে আরম্ভ করেছে তাদের জন্য ইটা একদম বর্ণপরিচয় এর মতো.. কিভাবে টিকটিকি গিরি শুরু করতে হয় সেটা খুব ভালো করেই বোঝা যাবে....পরিবার,নিজের শখ সামলে একটা মেয়েকে এভাবে টিক্টিকিগিরি করতে দেখে খুব খুশি.. আর এই গল্পটা কলকাতার বেশ কিছু মজাদার তথ্য দেওয়া আছে..সব মিলিয়ে এই বই এর জার্নি তা বেশ ভালোই লেগেছে....

বেশ সাবলীল লেখা। পড়তে বিরক্তি জাগে না। রহস্য বা থ্রিলিং ব্যাপারটার ঘাটতি থাকলেও সেটা বয়সের বিবেচনায় এড়িয়ে যাওয়াই যায়। ছোটবেলার বই বড় বেলায় পড়লে এমনি হবে স্বাভাবিক।

তবে দারুন কিছু ইনফো পেয়েছি এই বইয়ে। বিশেষ করে তিলোত্তমা নগরী খ্যাত কলকাতার দারুন দারুন কিছু ঐতিহাসিক ইনফো লেখিকা দারুন ভাবে তুলে দিয়েছেন।

সব মিলিয়ে টাইম পাসের জন্য ভালো।

কিছু বই আছে যা আপনাকে শুধুই মনের খোড়াক যোগাবে,মিতিনমাসির কাহিনিগুলা সেই রকম।মাঝে মাঝে মাথা ঠান্ডা রেখে কিছু পড়তে চাইলেই মিতিনমাসি সমগ্র খুলে বসি।হারিয়ে যাই কৈশোরে।

Idk the book was too long. History was forced into the story it was unnecessary. the flow of the story was slow. But it was unpredictable for sure at least for me.
