J. Stephen Lang's favorite game is Trivial Pursuit, and his favorite book is the Bible. Lang is a best-selling author whose other titles include "The Ultimate Book of Bible Trivia," "The Complete Book of Bible Promises," "The Big Book of American Trivia", and "The Complete Book of Confederate Trivia." He lives in Seminole, Florida.
Ugh. First of all, I hated the setup. Questions on one page, answers on the next. So do you flip for each question to get the answer, or just go down the whole list of questions first and then look at the answers having already forgotten the questions? Ugh. Did I say that already?
Also, a lot of the questions/answers were pretty obscure and random. If there’s a person out there who is able to answer most of these questions, I wanna meet you, because you’re a freak! Lol. Calm down people!
Anyway, it’s just not the type of trivia book I was hoping it would be. Kudos to the author though for all the research (unless he didn’t research at all and he’s the above-mentioned freak! Seriously, calm down - it’s funny).
I liked some of the American trivia and I loved that it seemed a bit more politically conservative, but it repeated itself multiple times by listing the same trivia question, worded differently, in a different section of the book. It is obviously outdated, as well.
Over 3,000 trivia questions about the United States, covering an amazing variety of topics. I have a 1997 edition, which is just slightly dated now, but still challenging and entertaining.
First I’ll start by saying that I love to challenge myself. Because of this I have always been a fan of trivia and such. What I really love about trivia aside from challenging myself is that it becomes such a great learning experience. After all we can never learn too much right? So I was pretty excited to get the chance to review this book.
It’s a really fun read that can keep you, family, and friends occupied for hours. Such a great way to spend some down time and test your knowledge. My hubby and I sat down a few nights when the kids were in bed and tested each other on various topics. It was pretty fun. This book has over 3,000 questions on a wide variety of topics from entertainment, history, music, literature, art, memorials, holidays, politics, landmarks, culture, and even some unpredictable miscellaneous things. My two personal favorites were the topic on scandal, and there’s a great chapter that has ten questions about each state. There are also chapters on America Month by Month, as well as, Doing It By The Decade which is pretty intriguing. Because there is such a wide variety of questions added to the fact that they can range from simple to hard this book can be a challenge for even the most well skilled trivia buff. It’s truly a book for everyone. The only thing I didn’t like about the book was the fact that answer pages can get a bit chopped up due to the lack of amount on some of the pages. Not always but here and there throughout the book. But I did like that questions are on one page with answers on the other side. It gives you more of a motive to challenge yourself in trying to answer the questions, and it makes the perfect set up for a good trivia game. I would recommend this book for high school students and ages up. Particularly fun for adults. Since this book is in honor of the two-hundredth anniversary of our national anthem it would be really fun to even implement it on Independence Day, and would make a great bring along on road trips. I wouldn’t recommend trying to read this book from cover to cover straight through, it’s more meant to be read randomly and easy to skip around from section to section depending on what your most interested in.

I really love this book. It is fun to read alone, but more fun to use as a game with family and friends. It will make a great gift for trivia buffs and is a wonderful learning tool for anyone. I recommend it to everyone. My free review copy came from Tyndale House, and I thank them for the opportunity.
I found this book as a Kindle free download. All the reviews were positive ( 4 & 5 stars only).
I started reading the book as soon as it was on my Kindle Fire. I love how the trivia questions have a blue link at the end of the question to lead you to the correct answer. That makes it so much easier when using this book as a game. My husband loves history, especially American history. This book will also help my oldest son with American history as we play this as a trivia game.
I see my little family using this book as a family game on game night. I recommend this book to any history buff. Also to families for making this book into a game.
5 out of 5 stars due to so many ways to use this book and learn American history at the same time.
This book is a lot of fun, especially for a trivia lover like me. We've taken it on many road trips, and the kids and I have even snuggled up on our bed with it. It's got some great categories: entertainment, music, sports, sights to see, presidents, art, decades, etc. It also has a trivia section about all fifty states--terrific for kids studying them in school! This book has something fun to offer all ages, from upper elementary students to adults who enjoy quirky facts rolling around in their brains.
The Big Book of American Trivia is a fun book to use as a game for the whole family. It's also a great book to use to quiz yourself, because all the questions for each quiz are given at the end of the quiz so if you write it down you can see how well you do at the end. This is a book I can see using many times and would recommend it.
I received a complimentary copy of this book to review. I was asked to give my honest opinion of the book - which I have done.
In A Nutshell: I originally planned to swap this book but after I started reading through the trivia questions, I do not want to part with it. There are some questions that are just fun or funny. There are some questions that are more serious and historic. Overall, this book is a lot of fun to read and even better to read with a group of friends or family.
A very concise and complete book with questions on almost any topic that you could possibly think of about the USA. For instance, which U.S. is only 90 miles from Havana, Cuba? (The answer is Key West).
Fun. some of the questions repeat information a little but over all it gave a wide variety of questions and levels of difficulty. I learned some things and had a blast quizzing David. Great for car rides. will have to pull it out if mom comes to visit.
