Thank you for visiting my Goodread's profile. I am Valerie Zambito, and I live in New York. After having been involved in a busy sales career for fifteen years, a great love of world building, character creation, and all things magic led to the publication of my first adult epic fantasy series, ISLAND SHIFTERS, in October of 2011 and a young adult paranormal series, ANGELS OF THE KNIGHTS, shortly thereafter.

My reading preference is fantasy as well and I devour in copious amounts. In my opinion, there’s nothing like a front row seat to a great epic tale filled with adventure, mystery and danger.

I gravitate to fantasy with heroic elements. I like strong, confident men who never back down from a fight against evil. The kind who will not hesitate to throw himself between a woman and a fire-breathing dragon. I like strong women, too. The kind who will appreciate the offer, but is more inclined to push the man out of the way and take care of the dragon herself. ;)

Happy reading, Goodreaders!

After reading the prequel to this book, An Oath of the Blood, I couldn’t wait to delve right in.

Once again, I am so happy to have stumbled onto these stories. The characters are so real and the dynamic between their relationships is just so fun to read. I find it so easy to relate to all of them on so many different levels which is great. Even characters with amazing fantastical abilities are still “human” at the core and experience the same emotions that we all have.

This story picks up several years after the first book ends and I think the timeline is perfect. Even though I had just finished the first book a little over a week ago, Zambito does a great job of reiterating key points from the last novel to bring the reader up to speed without slowing down the pace of the story. The new characters and problems that she introduces are just as interesting and amazing as in the first book. I found myself falling in love with a certain five year old little girl as if she were my own.

The action is great. The world, as amazing as it was in the first book, still held many new wondrous things to discover this time around. Zambito does a great job describing every character and place in vivid detail.

I loved the plot changes. The deception was great. I am often pretty good at reading into where a story is going but this book moved along so fast and had me so intrigued that I didn’t even have time to consider what was going to happen and found myself shocked and surprised on many occasions.

This book will make you cringe, laugh, cry and tingle with excitement. Anyone who loves a good fantasy novel needs to pick this up. But read the prequel first!

I will be gnawing at the bit waiting for the third book to be released.

Without a doubt, this is, by far, the best book I have ever read in my entire life. As someone who has read over 780 books in 20 years, that's saying something. I fell in love with this series right from page 1 of book 1, and I knew that book 2 would not disappoint. What I wasn't prepared for was the multitude of emotions I would run while reading it. The fact that it takes place 6 years after book 1 had me a little worried that something would be missing in the history of those 6 years, but Valerie did a phenomenal job of giving history of those 6 years and background story in the first part of the book. There was so much detail given that the first few chapters were a little slowing going for me, because I was reading very carefully so I didn't miss anything super important. Once I got through the background, I was thrown into an immediate action packed event that set the fast pace for the rest of the book. Absolutely hands down, this book contains everything. Humor, Betrayal, Love, Duty, Choices, Magic, Good, Evil, Battle, Friendship...everything a person could want in a book! If you haven't read book 1 yet, you MUST read that book first before this one, and trust me, you will NOT be disappointed! This book deserves more than 5 stars, it is that good. I cannot wait for book 3!! Well done Valerie, you are a phenomenal writer.

Island Shifters, Book Two, An Oath Of The Mage was quite good. Civil unrest, treason and kidnappings are the backdrop for this delightful novel that takes place on the Island of Massa. Throw in a few shifters, elves, princesses and sorceresses and the novel transforms into a quest for good versus evil. What impressed me the most were the characters and how loyal they were to each other. The novel also left me wishing for a Draca Cat of my own. I received the book for free through Goodreads First Reads.

A good series with a great second installment. The characters grow & the betrayals weren't to obvious. Definitely worth a read.

Fun, Original, Entertaining, Fiction at its best! I have to admit that when I fist started this novel I had that sinking feeling that their was just no way it could live up to "Oath of the shifters". Oh how wrong can I get?!!
I think if possible I enjoyed this even more than the first novel. Both are incredible and the absolute best paranormal series I have EVER read, but the second grows from the events of the first novel and although many years have elapsed, the reader does not feel left behind, so it gives this book every ounce of adventure and passion as it's predecessor and adds to it! Valerie Zambito has done a remarkable job with character and plot development. Much like the first book, "Oath of the Mage gets your attention right from the very first paragraph and does an impeccable job at hold your interest and curiosities all of the way through! I literally could not put it down, in fact I took it all on so quickly in the first read I immediately read it a second time through just to make sure I caught every detail and it did not become one of those books that slowly become a distant memory, just a name, because you read them too quickly (Although I honestly don't think I could EVER forget this or even the first novel!)
This book does an excellent job of catching us up on what has occurred from the time of the Demon War up through this novel without using chapters of detail that drag out. In stead it carefully highlights pieces of the past through out the story. There is no doubt that it captures your attention and leaves you not in need for anything more, but defiantly wanting to know more of the lives of the Savitars and the people of Massa.
An incredible second novel and one that could be read as a stand alone (although the history of the characters and struggles they have faced defiantly add more depth and meaning to the story!! The author does such an amazing job with explaining events and the island that even a new to the series reader could not get lost! There is even a map of the island included at the beginning which I think is great for tracking the journeys of the characters as you go! The details of their surroundings are so incredible it feels like you could be walking through Haventhal, Sandori Sands, or the Puu rainforest right along with everyone!

I can't wait to get started on book 3!!

I would strongly recommend these novels to ANYONE who enjoys magic, paranormal, good fiction, or just an adventurous read!

Oh Valerie, you've done it again! Two nights! That is how long it took me to read- it would've been one, but I didn't get to pick up until late the first one and read until 7 in the morning... only til 2 the next to finish!

The story is AMAZING. Just like the first one. You want to know what happens, you HAVE to know what happens. The characters become part of you! And little Kenley! Wow! I feel like the character is not as young as she's supposed to be... maybe because she's a shifter? I LOVE her! She's a kick ass little kid! Can I have a Draca Cat? Please! I promise to take good care of it!

This is a series for everyone. Love fantasy? Love magic? Love defending the world from Evil? Love romance? What about learning tolerance? This book has it all!

The characters are super developed and rememberable, the storyline is developed and thought out. You can tell that Valerie has put part of her very soul into the words. It is a MUST read.

VALERIE PLEASE WRITE FASTER! I have to know what happens next!!!

This is book 2, and it continues the story a few yrs down the road. Both books were great. I love the mix of magic and shifting, and the many variations of shifting in this series.
