Interesting book novella about Japanese culture. Not my style of book.

I would recommend this novella and author to readers of culture and world novels. 2024 🤔👒😆😎

The broken English took a short while to get used to, and I appreciate the idea that it is a kind of diary in the language he is studying. It also makes Hiro seem very innocent, and it was interesting to get a sense of the more complicated man behind the words. On one hand, I felt compelled to keep going with this little novel. On the other hand, I wished Hiro had more strengths. He keeps getting smashed down in life, and he relies on others for help. It's only at the very end that he suddenly has his time to shine and show how physically able and brave he is. I wish we could see it develop more. I get that in part he wants to redeem himself to his uncle for the dog, and he's putting all his will into his chance. Narrative-wise, it feels weirdly lopsided. Can't complain too much- overall, I really did like the detail of everyday Japanese life, and that's what I wanted in the first place.

l really enjoyed this book because I liked the main character Hiro who was basically the narrator and the way he described Japanese culture and what he went through at the age of twenty four. I actually would like to read a sequel about his life. 4.5 rating.

Really

I really should have downloaded a sample before buying. This book was fairly impossible to read. I understand that English is not the writers first language but the editor should have helped out I could only force myself through about 30 pages.
