And Staab has written the alpha vampire. The heroes of the past two Chronicles of Yavn books were not your typical romance novel hero. While they were not the typical alpha they were certainly not weak or useless. Lee oozes testosterone and badassery. He is in charge of the fighters that protect the king and his estate. Lee takes his jobs very seriously. He excels at training new members of his security team. He is the epitome of strong alpha male. His world is about to tumble down around him as he discovers that the blood that runs through his veins will be the death of him and the cures lies within something he loathes on principal alone, a human.
Being the lone human at the vampire estate has begun to take its toll on Alexia. She’s tired of the hours she’s expected to keep. She’s tired of the constant sneaking around to live her life and enjoy the fun that can be found away from the estate. She has become lonely because she has lost her best friend to a loving mate and soon to arriving baby. Most of all she is tired of the sexual frustration that comes with an attraction to a male vampire that despises humans. Lexi knows she has got to get out of her current living arrangement. Just when she sees daylight at the end of the tunnel the tables turn when Lee and Lexi finally give into the want that has been keeping us readers begging for this moment for way too long.
Lee and Lexi finally set the pages ablaze! Oh I have been waiting for this book. I knew it would be good and Staab did not disappoint. Hunter by Night lived up to every single one of my expectations. She revealed more secrets of her vampire world. I liked the way she made Alexia and Lee work. I was wondering how she would give the human a long life with her very sexy vampire. It worked for me.
I was so very pleased to see more of Xander, Theresa and little Eamon. Those three have really stolen the show for me with this series. I know they only have a little side story but I LOVE every single minute of their page time. Xander truly is swoon worthy and so perfect for Theresa. They are doing this weird dance around each other and he finally just says what I’m sure everyone is thinking, “I see no point in worrying about ‘too soon’ when there may not be a later.”

Hunter by Night is the 3rd and final instalment in this part of the Chronicles of Yavn series and it is by far the best book yet.
We first met Alexia, in King of Darkness where she was the heroine, Isabel's best friend. Now Isabel is Queen and heavily pregnant with her first child and Lexi's place in her life is a little less significant. All she really wants is to get a little normalcy in her life, instead she is cooped up, the only human in an estate full of vampires, vampires who are always on the brink of war with the wizards.
Lee is the head of security and always seems to be catching Lexi doing exactly what he has forbid her from doing. Lee and Lexi have butted heads since they first met, they have snarked and sniped at each other for 3 books and now we see their relationship evolve as Lee has no choice but to trust her with his secrets if either, or both of them want to survive.
This is the book I have been waiting for since I first read Kings of Darkness, I had a hard time enjoying Thad and Isabel's story as I found myself desperate to read on to see if Lee and Lexi had any more interactions. I love the banter between them, Lexi is a fun party girl with a hell of a sharp wit and Lee is a strong alpha male who doesn't take any crap but together, the sparks really fly. They both have secrets and hard painful pasts that we have been glimpsing as the story evolves. The budding romance isn't the only thing in this book, battles are waged, traitors are uncovered and tentative truces are born as new enemies emerge. It was a fantastic tale which had a little bit of everything. I have never known two little words to give me goosebumps like "Lee surrendered" did. I hope Elisabeth revisits the series in the future cause I'd love to read more, I am so glad Lee and Alexia got their turn in the spotlight.

Hunter by Night is the third book in author Elisabeth Staab’s Chronicles of Yavn Series and the book I have been most looking forward to in the series after falling in love with Lee form the very first book. Well, I was not disappointed. This book was everything I had hoped for and more.
Alexia Blackburn is slowly losing her mind. Being the only human stuck in a house full of vampires with the constant threat of war from their enemies, the wizards, is just a tad bit taxing. Especially to someone like Alexia. Someone who has been on her own for as long as she can remember. Her childhood kind of sucked and the minute she got free she had been in charge of herself. So to be stuck here was driving her crazy. If it weren’t for her best friend’s pregnancy and impending delivery, she’d so be outta here. But she would stay, for her best friend. She’d be lying to herself if she said she wasn’t also staying for a certain royal guard vampire named Lee. Sure, he’s made it clear that he could never be with a human, but she knows there’s some sort of connection there. And if she was wrong? Fine. She’d be gone before she could let his rejections sting any more than they already have.
As head of security for the king and their community, vampire Lee Goram had a lot on his plate. Every day there were new threats emerging and with the uncertainty with the wizards, you could say his plate runneth over. Making matters worse was that the queen was due to give birth any week. Talk about a security nightmare. So he’s been blaming his chest pains on all of that stress. Certainly vampires didn’t get sick and die from something like that so he’d put it on the back burner until all of this wizard nonsense went away. Also adding to his stress was Alexia. That human was always trying to plead her case as to why she should be allowed to go out into the day, without any protection. Didn’t she know as the queen’s best friend she had a huge target on her back? But he knew she didn’t care. She had a stubborn streak a mile wide and was beyond independent. She wasn’t going to listen to him. Of course, his annoyance with her isn’t helping squash his underlying attraction to her. But he just kept coming back to that fact that she was a human. Surely he could never be with a human. But Lee has been known to be wrong a time or two and this may just be one of those times….
Tensions are higher than high within the mansion and the sexual tension between Lee and Alexia is adding a deliciously tense layer to the situation. Will they ever put all their differences aside and take a chance on the pull they feel between themselves?
Oh man how I loved this book. Lee is the quintessential stubborn alpha vampire with a deep-rooted disgust for human/vampire relationships. Alexia is just as stubborn and is also stronger than anyone could guess. She’s got a sharp tongue and a beautifully smart assed wit that I adored about her. She wasn’t going to let Lee push her around. She wasn’t going to let anyone push her around. The push and pull between them had started in the first book and reached a fevered pitch in the second book and left me dying for the ending to their story. Elisabeth gave them an ending they both needed and truly deserved. They pissed each other off at every turn, bantered constantly but the underlying level of care and concern for one another was so touching. Even if they didn’t want to admit what had developed between them as going from annoyance to one of love, I knew eventually they would. If for no other reason than even though they may be stubborn characters, they are also honest, and when the walls of defense crumble between them their honesty is amazing. Heartfelt and touching. I went from being pissed off to crying and then laughing with happy tears being shed. I love all the feels!
Also, there was a bit of closure for Siddoh and a few of the other members of the vampire clan we’ve met along the way. That was another gift to read.

O wow yet another paranormal series featuring vampires to get your teeth (fangs.) into and hey why didn't I discover these books sooner? Ms Staab has penned an interesting series that features purist vampires hiding in plain sight whilst trying not to intermingle with humans if possible. These strong passionate vampires follow a code and have strict rules but you just know that rules are meant to be broken. The vampire king has finally tracked down the woman meant to be his mate and joyfully they now await the birth of their first child but not everyone approves of the forward thinking king and treachery is far too close to home.
Lexi is human but her best friend is a vampire and more to the point she's the queen of the vampires! Now that shouldn't pose too many problems but in order to ensure Lexis safety she's living at the vampire compound but it's not turning out to be everything that she had hoped. First problem is most of the elitist vampires are snobs who look down on the. " mere" human! Second problem is Lexi feels stifled and needs more freedom and then there problem number three, Lee! Lee is if honest her biggest problem as he's a seven hundred year old vampire warrior who hates, loathes and despises humans ! Unfortunately he also has Lexis libido doing a tango whenever he's around! What's a girl to do? Lexi has a plan and that's to leave vampire HQ but before she can do that an old enemy turns up and the consequences could be disastrous!
Oo yummy vampires and a heroine with a mouth on her that's just set to run and run! Lexi does not do peaceful and calm no she's a live wire who mouths off all the time and doesn't care too much who she offends. With Lexi what you see is what you get. She's smart, she's loyal and she's beyond tired of this thing that she feels for the stoic Lee! Lee has strong reasons to avoid humans and indeed his past experience of females has somewhat soured him too. As war escalates he can't help but acknowledge his growing attraction to Lexi but Lee needs to keep a clear head and can't afford the distraction that is Lexi. So what does he do? The one thing he swore he never would he lets a human get close and somehow he can't get her close enough!
I really enjoyed reading this book and my only regret is I didn't discover this authors work sooner! I have to track down her other books now to read all that went before this but can happily reassure readers that I had absolutely no trouble whatsoever understanding this book. I found it easily worked as a standalone but it's got my curiosity peaked as to what happened previously.
This had a very detailed plot that flowed really well. There are villains to cause problems and lots of action for these characters to face. A very strong romantic edge to this book as Lee and Lexi dance around each other and he's a very charismatic hero who had me licking my lips! Lexi however is definately human and full of snarky comments to drive her vampire insane. I loved that she stood her corner but at times felt some of the dialogue a little stilted but I'm English so perhaps that's why it didn't flow easily for me. Nevertheless Lexi shines out as a character whose more than a match for her taciturn guy.
It's quite a complicated story with lots going on. For me the surrounding characters really stood out and it made the whole world building come to life. There's more than just one romance going on here and I adored getting to know more about the vampire community. An emotional ride that truly took the lead characters on a journey of self discovery and what an ending! This was a great book for a paranormal fan like me and the best bit? Lee surrendered!

Oh I have definitely been missing out on some damn fine paranormal goodness by not reading Staab sooner! Hunter by Night was a gloriously snarky, steamy and action packed read as vamp Lee--who so doesn't go for humans--falls for the "enemy"...one tiny frail and sassy *gasp* mortal. Blast those meddling Fates! lol And all while plague wielding nut jobs abound, baby vamps are being born and all kinds of para craziness surrounds them. Lordy it was fun!
I really liked both Lee and Alexia. Near broody vamp and loyal and determined human who desperately need each other and just haven't quite...figured it out yet. They pushed each other's button's something fierce and damn that's a good time--especially when things get all hot and heavy. I found myself smiling a lot over them over little quips and zings and sayings they had that just tickled me. I mean, really. How could you not love a character that says stuff like fuckcicle?! Gah. I loved it. Staab has a fun sense of humor and it definitely comes across on the page. Sometimes dry, sometimes quirky, totally gigglesnort worthy.
The romance was perfect and really entertaining to watch. These two have been resisting each other for so long and watching them crumble was excellent. Steamy bits were definitely bite your lip worthy. They're pretty great together when they're not bickering too. They had some nice layers as well with different things they were battling. Past traumas, addictions that had become life threatening, feeling stifled and lonely. There were really just so many facets of both of them which made for some great interactions and nice growth as they helped each other past their issues.
Being the last in the series (though hopefully not forever!) there were a handful of storylines that were all action packed and exciting and so kept me on my toes and ready to see what would happen next. It was pretty easy to keep up and catch on even without reading the previous books which was nice. I really do hope there will be more books to close up a couple of the loose ends and potential storylines. Would seriously be a shame to not see this group again!
All in all, I had a blast with Lee, Alexi and this group of vampires as they battle outside forces, betrayals, new lives starting and romance that just can't be denied. Good time all the way around and perfect for those that like a light hearted quirky para romance.

Alexia was too soggy and bone-weary to employ any kind of brain-to-mouth filter when Lee bitched about the fact that it had manual transmission. "Seven hundred years of badassery and you don't know how to drive a stick?"
He leveled a glare at her while his hand hovered over the ignition. "Of course I know how to drive a stick. My hand got cut open by evil-powered lightning. Needs a little longer to heal over."
Oh. Well. Wasn't she the asshole? "I'll drive."

Hunter by Night, Elisabeth Staab

Vampires, romance – I’m in....:) This was an enjoyable read, not too heavy, some decent action and a real story and hot romance to back it up. I haven't read the first two books but a quick read of the descriptions and it was easy to follow this one anyway. I think reading them first would enhance the enjoyment of this one though. Too many books too little time :(
So, we've human hater vampire Lee, 700 years old, and holding a grudge all that time, blaming them for the death of his family. He's guarding the queen's best friend, human Alexia. Poor Lexi, she's been friends with the queen back in the human world when they were just two carefree people, and now the queen is with the king, and having his child Lexi is stuck in a world where she feels she doesn't fit. Lee's not the only human hater here, she's made a few friends but in the main she's lonely, lost, and doesn't know what she's going to do. It doesn't help that she's a huge crush on Lee too....and yet all she seems to do is irritate him at every turn. That's just the sort of pairing I love – where they have to work to find a way to each other, where there are obstacles at every turn. Its fun seeing just how they make it, and there's always drama when things go wrong, and you know by now how much I love, love, love lots of that!
Alongside their romance is the very real feeling of danger, of looming war threatening both humans and the vampires, the difficulties of who to trust, of whether “my enemies enemy is my friend” is really true when dealing with both Guardian and Wizard enemies....There's lots of action from different sources, and romance problems between other couples too. Lee may be 700 years old but he's still got things to learn :-)
Its a great read, lots to occupy my mind and make me think. It feels like a real romance with genuine problems, and all that action alongside it is very much how real life is. The world doesn't stop just because couples have problems :) When Lexi and Lee do get together – wow – they are hot! Scorching, and very sensual and steamy...then they argue – again and again. Lexi had a tough upbringing and can't stop her mouth from running even when she knows its not a good idea, and Lee simply isn't used to that. He's a huge mind shift to make to realise a humans viewpoint can be very valuable. It’s priced at £4.27 for 384 pages so its a lovely long novel, and its all relevant words, no padding and fluff.....
Stars: Four, one that it would be great to read the whole series back to back and I look forward to more from Elisabeth.

Vampires, romance – I’m in....:) This was an enjoyable read, not too heavy, some decent action and a real story and hot romance to back it up. I haven't read the first two books but a quick read of the descriptions and it was easy to follow this one anyway. I think reading them first would enhance the enjoyment of this one though. Too many books too little time :(
So, we've human hater vampire Lee, 700 years old, and holding a grudge all that time, blaming them for the death of his family. He's guarding the queen's best friend, human Alexia. Poor Lexi, she's been friends with the queen back in the human world when they were just two carefree people, and now the queen is with the king, and having his child Lexi is stuck in a world where she feels she doesn't fit. Lee's not the only human hater here, she's made a few friends but in the main she's lonely, lost, and doesn't know what she's going to do. It doesn't help that she's a huge crush on Lee too....and yet all she seems to do is irritate him at every turn. That's just the sort of pairing I love – where they have to work to find a way to each other, where there are obstacles at every turn. Its fun seeing just how they make it, and there's always drama when things go wrong, and you know by now how much I love, love, love lots of that!
Alongside their romance is the very real feeling of danger, of looming war threatening both humans and the vampires, the difficulties of who to trust, of whether “my enemies enemy is my friend” is really true when dealing with both Guardian and Wizard enemies....There's lots of action from different sources, and romance problems between other couples too. Lee may be 700 years old but he's still got things to learn :-)
Its a great read, lots to occupy my mind and make me think. It feels like a real romance with genuine problems, and all that action alongside it is very much how real life is. The world doesn't stop just because couples have problems :) When Lexi and Lee do get together – wow – they are hot! Scorching, and very sensual and steamy...then they argue – again and again. Lexi had a tough upbringing and can't stop her mouth from running even when she knows its not a good idea, and Lee simply isn't used to that. He's a huge mind shift to make to realise a humans viewpoint can be very valuable. It’s priced at £4.27 for 384 pages so its a lovely long novel, and its all relevant words, no padding and fluff.....
Stars: Four, one that it would be great to read the whole series back to back and I look forward to more from Elisabeth.

Emotionally delicious! I love Staab’s snarky dialogue and no character does it quite like Alexia, the human trapped in a mansion of vampires for her own protection. Add in Lee, the vampire warrior who has hated and mistrusted humans his whole life, and you get two people who secretly want each other, but hate the fact that they do. Trading verbal jabs at each other to cover up their feelings builds a lot of sexual tension and you know what happens then…hubba hubba! I'm a sucker for this kind of troupe.
Oh, there’s some other stuff going on in the book like an evil monk from Lee’s past trying to bring another plague on the world, the Vampire King’s wife is having a baby, and a sweet secondary love story finds a conclusion. All good stuff! I have really enjoyed the Chronicles of Yavn and would recommend the series to any PNR lover. They can all be read as stand alones, but why cheat yourself?
Let’s get back to Lee and Lexi. I like to highlight favorite quotes as I read, but by page four I had to get a little pickier because there were too many to use. Here are some of my favorites to give you a taste of what fun these two are:

In return she’d insulted his hair, his wardrobe, and his need to wear SPF-one billion.”
“It was all he needed. Lee did something that he’s never done in centuries of living. Not for any vampire, any enemy, or any human. Lee surrendered.”

I finally get the chance to read the rest of this intoxicating and refreshing series! I've been waiting for so long to read the special story of Lee Goram. The Chronicles of Yavn series has impressed and even titillated me since its release.
I first met Lee in the first volume and as the best friend of the prince / now king of vampires; Thad Morgan. Since I begin this dreaming adventure, I felt in love with many characters but since the end of the second volume, where I learned about Lee's former lover, I was even more into Lee's story!
Prince of Power (Chronicles of Yavn, #2)I also have a soft spot for Lee Goram because of what he represents; the perfect type of solitary vampire and an authoritarian alpha male that I love to read about! Of course, the reader will have to bear his macho temper toward his beloved and only human; Alexia Blackburn.
Alexia was a surprising character; I loved her smug and unpredictability side. Her personal story touched me so much and although she do the roughneck and play the «hard to get», I quickly realized how much she is human, sensitive and vulnerable.
I felt a great connection between the two lovebirds, but their story is always on the edge because of their eternal enemy, the Wizards. After the onset of a new threat, Isabelle's delivery, and Alexia trying to get away, Lee has a lot to deal with.
King of Darkness (Chronicles of Yavn, #1)There is a lot of action in this tome; it's a fast paced story where even Lee and Alexia don't have time to take a break! But the main subject is still about Lee and Alexia relationship. Lee has abhorrence toward humankind and his demons will come to haunt him after he realizes his possible feeling for Alexia.
The tension is always present, lurking likes a shadow and with Thad and Isabelle at the delivery room, the vampires are at the mercy of their enemy.
Like the two first books, I recommend this series, especially for those paranormal romance lovers out there! The third book should be on your next-to-buy list or on your nightstand waiting his turn to be read!

I'm a big fan of this whole series, so when I found out I won a copy of this book, I was ecstatic! Lee and Lexi have been dancing around each other for quite some time, and to be honest, I couldn't wait to see what was up with Lee. You can clearly tell, from the other books, that this vamp has a big story, and bringing it to page was not going to be easy. Of course, Elisabeth Staab did a super amazing job with this daunting task. The book was fantastic!
Each new obstacle and secret was revealed so "intense-Lee." For the record, after reading this book, that is how I think intensely should be spelled. This book and its main character are the definition of intense. He has one of the biggest presences of any character I have ever read, and he is so complex. I loved how the Lee I have come to know in the other books evolves and changes in this book, and so much of his story is revealed. Lexi is great too! She really shines in this book, and you get to see how strong she is, but her sentimental side shines as well.
One of my favorite things about Elisabeth's writing style is, as she is telling her main story, she is building so many other stories within it, using her other characters. It is impossible to not fall in love with them and their lives as well. I'm always waiting to find out more about the main characters from the other books, but I also want more of Siddoh, Xander, Theresa, and the others. This world is built on such a strong foundation, I never want to leave it!
Kudos to Staab for giving us Lee and Lexi's ultra complicated story, and for giving the vampires one heck of a battle in this book. It was done extremely well, and I know it could not have been easy. This is definitely my favorite book in the series, so far!

This is the book I was waiting for. Don't get me wrong, I really liked Thad in the first book, he's an introspective hero, and then there is Anton in the second one who is even more that way, gentle and protective too. But there was something about Lee the whole time. He's the growly one, the grouchy one, not the guy who woos with flowers and words, but the one who tells you not to be stupid while he manhandles you but who makes you fee safe and cherished. It was love at first sight with me and Lee.
Lee is strong physically and mentally and all ready to do the noble thing and give up his life to protect those he cares about. He doesn't want to fall in love so of course, when he does, he picks the person he's been arguing and bantering and pissing off for the last two books. Lee and Alexia could not be more perfect for each other. She wants to keep him and kill him in equal measure. He feels the same. Along with the beginning of their passionate relationship is an old enemy of Lee's that threatens everything he's grown to love. It's not to be missed.

This is the third book in Elisabeth's Chronicles of Yavn series, which is very steamy and action-packed. This one features Alexia, who wants out of the vampires compound and into the sun, but is staying until her best friend has her baby (we're talking about the queen). She's also constantly in "trouble" with the head of security (Lee) and doing things she's not supposed to be doing. The electric current between the two has sparked since the first book and finally comes to a mini explosion, which readers are sure to enjoy. This is a paranormal romance that reads like a sexy urban fantasy. There's action, violence, steam and heat. It's one of my favorite series, and I need more, please!

4.5 Loved the banter between Lee and Lexi
Book three pulls you straight into the wonderful world of vampires who are only trying to protect their way of life from an evil hell bent on destroying them and the world. Alexia is the vampire queen's best friend and only human living in a house full of vampires. Staying in one place to long is not what Alexia has planned out for her life and she wants to leave. Lee, the head of the king's security team wants nothing more than to protect Alexia.
The banter between the two lead characters is awesome. What a great couple! She wants out and he wants to finally have happiness. What will it take for her to stay and for him to open up? Read Hunter by Night and fall in love with Lee and Alexia as they both find what it truly means to find what you need from someone you never expected to fall in love with.

I have been intrigued by Lee since King of Darkness. He takes his duties to the King and the Vampires very seriously. He also has a deep seated mistrust of humans, put you just know when he loves it will be very intense. Alexia has serious trust issues of her own, but she also is very loyal to those she lets get close. Seeing the two of them acknowledging their feelings for each other and finding their way in the midst of the evil that surrounds them was amazing. The way the author uses several minor characters to show Lee how his ideas about some of his beliefs was wrong was great. I can't wait for the next book in this series. I have my idea on who the next book should be about,(Siddoh and Ivy?) but we will see if Ms Staab agrees with me.

Fantastic read, great story with lots of issues taking place in an attempt to possibility wrap up the storyline. Wonderful characters, loving them is a joy, Chronicles of Yavn is a truly great series. I am sorry but I can’t agree that this storyline is over, the main dispute, the war between the wizards and the vampires has not been truly settled, along with new concerns that need to be addressed which is now taking place in this society, the series definitely could be continued. (Hint,Hint). - Looking forward to possibility more future books, even if it is a spin-off that would be along this storyline but, having some of these wonderful characters taking part in it.

I have been waiting for Lee's book forever. I knew there was more to him! I mean how could you not love a grumpy, pissy, moody vampire? Well let me tell you he has met his match Lexi brought that big bad vamp to his knees figuratively and hey literally as well. Lol this was so worth the wait. The progression of the series has been amazing. As always I simply love all the characters new and old! This as well as this series is a must read!

*sigh* Once again, a beautiful thing is coming to an end. One of my favorite series, Chronicles of Yavn, is ending. I am sad, but also satisfied because. Elizabeth Staab concluded the series with the best book yet! Lee gave me some problems at first and I thought I might have to get out my cast iron attitude adjuster. Loved this book. I respected Alexia for wanting to go on with her life...she just didn't fit in at the compound and Lee sure as hell wasn't into her or much less liked her. Or so we thought.
These two are dynamic, hard headed and loveable.
Neither one realizes just how much they need one another.
Awesome book; awesome series.
Highly Recommend.

you definitely have the read the first two books in the series to understand what is going on. seems the hero and heroine have already met and stuff has been brewing between them since the first 2 books. Also there's a lot of assumption that you have read the first 2 books since the world building is already done and there are so many secondary characters that have already been introduced so when they show up on page you're left even more confused since there's no explanation of who they are.
Besides that I didn't find the heroine very likeable she was giving off "not like other girl" vibes.

Best of the three but the ending seemed too convenient. Would have better if Lee’s mortal enemy reappearance and disappearance was handled better or Alexia’s intel input given better voice. Good read nonetheless.

What the heck was this? I’ve never been this lost in a story like this EVER. Lee is an absolute asshat and Lexi is a whiny child. Just wanted to hate them both. Wish I could burn this.

She doesn't belong with the vampires, she's knows this. But for her safety and to be close to her best friend as she nears her due date, the heroine has moved into the secret compound. As a human she is basically an outcast from the residents minus a few friends. And as a rule she generally tries to stay out of the hero's way. He is surly, arrogant and far too tempting to be around. Despite both of them having a gift of irritating the others, the heroine feels attracted to the massive and beautiful man. But he is very controlling and focused on the security and safety of the compound. Plus he strongly dislikes and distrusts humans.
The heroine, unbeknownst to him, is routinely seeking outside during the day when everyone sleeps just to experience a sense of freedom. When the hero finds out about it, he refuses to permit to do so again without an escort. This makes the heroine incensed enough to attempt to leave but the resurrection of an old and deadly enemy as well as the birth of her queens baby keeps the heroine in place for the time beginning. Plus...something strange is developing between herself and the super serious hero, something strong and deep.
The hero in turn makes it a rule to disassociate himself with humans after they caused the death of his family over 700 years ago. And this particular human is far more irritating and stubborn than he has time for. No matter how pretty she is, or how his old cold heart beats for her, he's determined to do his duty. Kill the enemy, settles his affair and die in peace. He knows whatever is causing these chest pains will be the end of him and even if he was fit as a fiddle, sleeping with a human is far beyond unwise. Yet an exchange of blood during a pressing time has created a bond between them, one that the hero has trouble ignoring. He finds it harder and harder to keep his distance, to remain cool and cold towards this female.
When she finally reaches the boiling point and decides to have her memory erased and go on with her life without him, he surrenders his pride and begs her to stay. He opens himself more to her and tells her how he feels. The heroine tries to trust him, to believe him when he says he can't live without her but she's been hurt far too deeply and frequently to trust 100%. Yes when the enemy makes their move, creates the virus strain to kill off the humans, it's the heroine who risks her life for a man she loves and the vampires who've become her family.
This book had heart and enough passionate to makes up for a lackluster plot and pitiful storyline. From the jump, I adored the hero. Strong, stubborn, military discipline- a man trying desperately to retain control when he feels like everything is falling apart. He fears for his king and his queen, for his people as not only must they deal with the wizards but this new enemy as well. But mostly he fears the heroine. He fears how easily she's taking ownership of his heart and unknowingly tying him tighter and tighter to her control. He's been on his own for so long that the idea of this small woman having power over him scares him enough to fight the best chance he has at happiness. She's human, she's mortal and no matter how much he craves her she's living on borrowed time.
I love strong and intimating man showing vulnerability and insecurity and Lee had both in abundance. And even though I was geared up to dislike the heroine, she turned out to be a great female lead. She was funny and charming, she didn't always put herself in dangerous situations and she used her head not her pride to make choices. And best of all, she was willing to try things out with the hero. Even though she had been hurt in the past, she gave the hero the chance to make things right every time he let his fear run his mouth. Like I said, the plot, however, was sad and unimaginative. The villain was an afterthought and if not for the main characters, this book would have rated a far lesser score. But luckily I really enjoyed their chemistry and personalities. 3.5 stars rounded up.

I am a huge fan of Elizabeth Staab's fangtabulous Chronicles of Yavn series and have been itching for Lexi and Lee's story since sparks first flew between them in book one, King of Darkness. It was soooo worth the wait.
Lee is 700+ years old, commander of the vampire army who just happens to have a mad hate-on for humans. Lexi is the vampire queen's human best friend. Did I mention that Lee is alphalicious to the core and insanely gorgeous? *swoons* Despite his arrogance and bad attitude, Lexi is drawn to him even though he has kept her at a distance since the moment she entered his world. Between his issue with humans and the deep-seated mistrust and hurt from Lexi's past, will they destroy what could possibly be a great thing before they even have a chance? Also, what's up with Lee's ex? Is she trying to stir up trouble for the two of them or is she genuinely trying to make things right?
Lee and Alexia rocked my world; they had great chemistry, the plot was good, and there was lots of action to keep the story moving along. That being said, I would have liked more info about Lee's past, including what ultimately happened between him and his ex, Agnessa. I know things were bad between them but it was only hinted out throughout the course of the trilogy. I wanted details and didn't get that. Honestly, that was the only thing Hunter by Night was lacking for me.
Knowing that Hunter by Night is the final book in the series (for now at least), it was a very bittersweet read for me. Chronicles of Yavn or as I've called it, Heroes with Fangs, is a truly unique world in a genre full of vampires. It sucks that the series didn't get the recognition it deserved and in turn wasn't contracted for more books. *pouts* The plot of Hunter by Night opened up a lot of potential for the Chronicles of Yavn world yet had to be squashed to give it a proper ending. On that note, while I'm beyond thrilled that Ms. Staab added an epilogue to the book, it did not answer all of the questions I had nor did it give me proper closure. I really do hope that at some point Ms. Staab can return to this world and give characters like Siddoh and Xander the happily ever afters they so rightfully deserve.

Hunter by Night is the third and final installment in Elisabeth Staab’s Chronicles of Yavn series. Ms. Staab did an incredible job wrapping up her series. We get action, sexual tension, stagger reveals into the Vampire world and character wrap ups.
We meet Alexia and Lee in the King of Darkness where we learn that Alexia is Isabel’s best friend. Isabel is now Queen of the Vampires and pregnant, which makes Alexia’s place a little less significant. Throughout the series she has been feeling the pressure of being the only human in a Vampire world. This is taking its toll on her. She is lonely and tired of the sexual frustration that comes with an attraction to a male vampire that despise humans. She needs out and now.
Lee is the embodiment of an alpha Vampire. He just oozes testosterone and sexy hotness. He is in charge of the fighters that protect the king and the estate. He takes his job very seriously. Throughout the series he fights his attraction to Lexi, but something is about to change and through his life into a world wind of new in-site.
Lots of things happen in Hunter by Night. Lee and Lexi finally hook up and wow baby do they set the pages on fire. I have been waiting for their story ever since book one King of Darkness. Ms. Stabb did a stupendous job with our hero and heroine. We get more secrets reveled of the vampire world. Lots of things are wrapped up for us. We get to see Xander, Theresa and little Eamon. They were adorable to read about. We see Siddoh grow as a character and something interesting happens to him I did not see coming. Agnessa, Lee’s ex I’m still not sure how I feel about her, but in the end you see that she may have saw this relationship coming and helped in her own way.
Thank you, Elisabeth for giving us Lee and Alexia’s happy ending. I enjoyed every minute and highly recommend check out the Chronicles of Yavn series.

Alexia found herself living at an estate full of vampires, not liking finding herself alone and lonely she sneaks out a few times but gets caught by Lee one time on her way back in. He's furious with her because there are troubles brewing that she doesn't know about and is afraid she could inadvertently get caught in the cross fire.
Lee doesn't like humans because of the way his family was killed and because he's lived for so long he's been around to see what humans will do once they find out about vampires. But he can't help but feel a strong pull in Alexia's way.
I want to start out by saying that this is book 3 in the Chronicles on Yavn series and this is the first book I've read so far. I won this book in a blog contest and decided to read it even though I hadn't read the other books in the series.
I loved how snarky Alexia is, her sarcastic attitude towards Lee and his tough guy attitude at the remarks she makes was so much fun to read. Staab has a great sense of humor and it definitely shows in this book. Some of the things that Alexia says are just too funny for words.
Of course while their romance is heating up there's a cra-cra, extremely evil, back from the dead guy on the loose who could bring about the next plague epidemic. Their home is under attack and it could be an inside job.
While this book can be read as a stand alone, I think it would probably make more sense if the 2 previous books were read first. There are several secondary characters in this book that I came to like and want to know more about so I'll be reading the other books in this series to see how they all fit in and got to the point where I found them in this book.
I particularly liked Theresa and Xander. Xander finds Theresa in the hospital waiting for someone to get a blood sample from her baby, who just happens to be a vampire. Yep, this book has baby vampires. Tiny baby vampire fangs and all that. How cute is that? Theresa is a widow and so is Xander, they find a spark of fire between them while bunking down in a safe place and waiting for the trouble back home to quiet down.
I love paranormal romance, especially when vampires are involved. If you do too, then you'll like this book.

This really enjoyable book was the third installation of the Chronicles of Yavn series. This is the book we have fans of the series have been waiting for. Lee and Lexi. Finally.
This story picks up shortly after the last one ended. There has been some quiet between the vampires and the wizards but a new foe emerges and makes things much worse than they have been before. Not only do they have the outside enemies, it becomes apparent that there are far more internal problems than Thad and Lee originally thought and the safety of their fortress and their loved ones are at stake.
The story moves along at a fast pace and there is a lot of adventure to keep you engrossed. Our favorite characters from previous stories are there and we get page time with them all. Lexi and Lee are really good together and the author did not disappoint in that story at all. She sets up the next book well and I personally can't wait to see what happens next to all these characters I've come to love over the years.
