A compelling novella that will help you understand Paige (from Forever), her motivations and her pain. I think what really tore me up was knowing that her crazy life, the horrors she experienced, aren't complete fantasy. Sadly they are some people's reality and that is as heart-breaking to know as reading this book was.

It's a tough ride but well worth it.

Wow...just wow!! You know when you pick up a book and take a couple of deep breaths preparing yourself because you know it's going to be a dark story to read? That's how I felt walking into Phoenix, the subject matter was tough, and in parts I had tears streaming down my cheeks, because I felt Paige's pain, my heart was breaking for her, for living through something unimaginable, for feeling like she had no other choice, it broke me, absolutely shattered my heart, I felt sick reading it, feeling like a bystander not being able to help her. I love this series, loved Kat & Brian, but Paige & Elliot are definitely my fav couple - the strength & tenacity Paige has, her ability to take responsibility for her past, she is one of those rare book heroine's you really want see come out on top and get her HEA.
Lilliana Anderson - you rock!! You did it again!! Amazing!

I was given a free ARC copy of Lilliana Anderson's Phoenix: The Beauty in Between for an honest review. Wow! A quick but heavy read, I finished it in less than a day. A deep, painful, and poignant tale spanning 10 years, but begins with a naive 15 year old Australian girl returning home from a friends house to find her abusive parents have suddenly cast her out by changing the locks, leaving her a packed bag with $200, and not answering the door or phone. She finally gives up and realizes her parents have broken all ties when she sees a For Sale sign days later. Rather than go into the foster care system, she runs. Seeking acceptance, she winds up clubbing, stealing, whoring, dealing/using drugs, and becomes a sexual plaything to various dealers. She doesn't seem to last long in any setting before being brutally booted out again. She ultimately finds herself in the ER in the worst possible scenario. Still a minor, she is placed into the very system she had tried so hard to avoid - but it provides her at chance at independent life as she is put through rehab and given housing, schooling, and job training. She is successful but resists all attempts at therapy, and remains detached and unhappy. Uncomfortable with occasionally bumping into people from her old life, she boards a plane to a new country and fresh start. Well written, deeply felt, and emotionally spot-on. A cautionary tale, not for anyone looking for a light or "happy ever after" read. It will stay with you long after you have finished reading.

When I first read about Paige on A Beautiful Forever, I remember not liking her as much as I liked the other characters in the Beautiful Series. Also, her indecisiveness there kind of frustrated me in a way, but now that I know ALL about Paige, I’ve grown to like her and understand her for the way she is.

In the beginning of the story, we’re met with a very young and vulnerable version of Paige, and having a glimpse of her life as a teenager made things very crystal clear for me. She was from a family who didn’t give her the love and affection that one needed to just… feel normal. That’s why she grew up thinking that people, in general, will always leave you. They will always let you down. You’ll trust them, and after that, they’ll abandon you.

I was hurting for Paige with every chapter that I read. All the things that she did just to keep living are so wrong on so many levels, and it was just horrible. She was on her own when she was 15 and she didn’t know what to do. She didn’t have a job and she was homeless. And so, it all started there. I think that Paige went down a very dangerous road that she didn’t even want to take. She thought that she had no choice that’s why she did things that a girl her age wouldn’t normally do. It was hard reading about her journey because it was such a wrong path. There was even a time wherein it was too much for me to take and I would’ve stopped reading if it weren’t for Anderson’s impeccably beautiful writing. Even though the theme of the book was very dark and heavy, the author managed to tell Paige’s story in such a way that readers will be hooked and captivated.

I felt more connected to Paige now compared before and I can’t say that I liked what she did in Phoenix but I loved her story as a whole. It was a long and difficult journey for her and I admire her strength and willpower to keep going. Anderson continually proves us how great of a writer she is and she never fails to surprise me. The scenes in this book were so vivid, so detailed and so real.

Phoenix is a story about love, loss and redemption. It will wrench your heart, but it will also warm it at the same time. I’m sure that Paige’s story will teach us to be grateful and hopeful.

In Phoenix we meet Paige who is a 15 year old girl who is not accepted by her family and she does not understand why. One day she comes home from visiting a friends after school and she is locked out of the house & on the porch is a duffle bag with all of her things and some money in an envelope with a letter explaining she got kicked out because her family does not want her anymore. She is not understanding why they would do this to her since she is always following the rules.
Some time has passed and she has worn out her welcome at all of her friends houses and is now living on the streets. She is sleeping in the park one night and a group of kids are hanging on equipment near by, something happens and Paige is brought out of her hiding and here it is that her life will change even more. She meets Tahlia, who offers for her to stay at her house in the garage. Paige finds out fast that Tahlia’s Parents are drug dealers and she gets caught up in this world rather fast. On her 16th Birthday Tahlia gives Paige E for the first time and this starts her spiraling out of control.
The book moves on from here for the next few years with Paige getting into heavy drug use and being used by a man who she thought loved her like she did him. After being kicked out of his house Paige is realizing if she sleeps with men she will have a place to sleep at night and won’t be forced to sleep on the streets again. She meets Braden who works at one of the clubs that she frequents and he winds up falling in love with her, but he is so caught up in his own drug use that he sells her to his dealer to settle a debt.
Paige is once again emotionless and numb to what is happening around her, so much so that when she is kicked out of this last place she doesn’t even realize what is going on around her or with her body.
Finally she is rescued from the depths of Hell and her life is changing for the better.
With every book that Lilliana writes you can feel the emotions that have gone into the story and every story gets better as she writes. This story takes us through many emotions. Struggle, Survival, Acceptance, Longing, Angry, Healing & finally LOVE.

**** ARC provided by author in exchange for an honest review ****

Lilliana Anderson has really delved into a deep, dark place to write something as shattering, heartbreaking and intense as 'Phoenix: The Beauty in Between.

What you experience is a story that sometimes you just can't fathom a person going through but it is so very real and delivered so perfectly that you get to experience the characters intense rollercoaster ride through a life she has no control over and feel every emotion she feels.

Through events and decisions that were taken out of her hands Paige loses all her innocence in an extremely short period of time and is forced to do things that no one should be forced to do just to survive. I shed a few tears, I got angry and I sat in complete shock while reading about her journey. This book is short and extremely difficult to put down.

Over the cause of the story so many secondary characters enter and exit Paige's life and you really learn to hate them because of what they put her through and how they break the trust that she warily gives a few of them. I felt raw with emotion trying to comprehend how a person has absolutely no one they can trust or rely on, it was heartbreaking.

When an momentously devastating event occurs for Paige, she decides it's time to turn her life around and she accepts the help that she needs, even though she struggles with certain aspects. We get to see Paige move forward in a positive direction and succeed in making something of herself.

I congratulate Lilliana for creating something so deeply intense but moving at the same time. I don't believe this would have been an easy story to write but she has done an amazing job of telling Paige's story and allowing her reader's to experience Paige's haunting past.

Wow...just wow. Lilliana, now I understand why you had to take yourself to a dark place to write Paige's story. Phoenix left me very emotional but like you said, her story needed to be told and you have written it brilliantly. 5 Powerful Stars!

I'll admit, this book was a lot to take in. I met Paige in A Beautiful Forever and I learned to love her as much as I love Elliot. There we find out that she had a very screwed up life in Australia and wanted to get away from all that by moving to UK. She bares it all but somehow there's far too much about her that we all have yet to see. And that's where Phoenix comes in - a detailed look at Paige's very sad and challenging life.

I knew reading Phoenix would be hard. Paige had a very painful life from the moment she got kicked out of her own home (or even before that) and I just felt for her every step of the way. I had to constantly remind myself that Paige will eventually meet Elliot and that he'll help her heal and be happy. She deserves that much after going through so much crap. I almost feel wrong for liking this story so much because of all the impossibly horrible things happening to Paige but I guess that's just how good the writing is. The story flowed easily and it kept me reading despite knowing things would only get worse by the next chapter. It was gripping, for sure!

Even though a lot of the things that happened to Paige were brought about by her wrong decisions, I couldn't fault her. Being abandoned at the age of 15 meant that she had no responsible adult to guide her, to care for her. She only had herself to rely on. It was painful seeing how she easily gave in to drugs and the lifestyle that came with it. She was forced to grow up, in a span of a year, by people who took advantage of her vulnerability and naivety. Her brokenness left her doing shady things in order to survive. It sucked seeing her throw her life away because she's never felt wanted, not even by her family. It was all around heartache but I didn't quit reading it because I wanted to know she'd be okay. I knew she'd meet Elliot and that they'd live happily ever after but somehow I still wanted to see her get better. That's how attached I became to Paige. I never expected to feel as attached to Paige as I did with Elliot, Katrina and David but I did! Anderson has proven once again her ability to write stories with believable characters that feel more and more alive with every page.

I truly loved seeing Paige evolve in this story. It's not exactly a happy story and I've emphasized that a lot earlier but there's this beauty to it; this promise that life will get better for Paige. She'll definitely get past all of this and you wouldn't want to miss that in A Beautiful Forever. But I swear, reading Phoenix will make introduce you to the real Paige, and it'll make reading her and Elliot's story even more special.

Now I want to read their story all over again! ;-)

I was given a free ARC copy of Phoenix: The Beauty in Between for an honest review. This book has to be my favorite out of all the Beautiful Series. I can relate to this book a lot more than I would like to say. Lilliana said in her foreword that “Paige’s story has forced me to look at all of my own hurt and pain.” Let me tell you that reading this story had forced me to look at my past but I am glad to be where I am because my past has made me into the women I am today just as this story begins.

Paige’s story is not an easy one. It starts before A Beautiful Forever Beautiful 2. She was treated differently than her older brother and younger sister. With no love during her childhood she becomes the black sheep in her family. One day coming home from a friend’s house she finds $200, a bag and note saying “This isn’t your home anymore.”

Paige than starts couch surfing until seen meets Tahila. That’s where her life begins to spiral out of control. Her 16 birthday comes around and Tahila gives her E. She says the funniest quote” I’m legally allowed to have sex. So you present me with an illegal drug to celebrate-isn’t that what they call Irony?’ Tahila says “It’s what they call symbolic.”

Drugs are never easy to describe because they just make everything perfect but Lilliana described Paige’s feelings perfectly. “This intense bundle of emotions is flowing through my body and starts to overwhelm me, making it difficult to breathe…Never in my entire life have I ever felt this good. Smiling genuinely for this first time in my living memory.”

From that moment on she becomes someone else. Falls in love with the wrong guys, changes her name a couple of times, and becomes friends with the wrong people. Especially Braden. After a huge fall in life she comes to the conclusion of “Trusting people is what got me into this mess.”

I enjoyed this book! Yes it can be read as a standalone but its part of a bigger picture. It helped me understand her standoff ish attitude that she portrays in the other books. I am so glad she gets her Happily Ever After which can be found in A Beautiful forever Beautiful 2. (Which I hope you have already read!!)

Thanks Lilliana for sharing Paige’s story in depth. I will continue looking forward to the other Beautiful Series!

******** Received an ARC of this book from the author in exchange for an HONEST review***********

Phoenix: The Beauty in Between (Beautiful#2.5)was Flipping Awesome!!! It follows the story of Paige, whom we met in a Beautiful Forever, prior to meeting Elliot. We find out in Beautiful Forever that Paige had a dark past and experienced much pain and loss. Even though she poured her heart out to Elliot in Beautiful Forever, it is nothing compared to what her story tells us in Phoenix. From the first page, I was drawn to Paige's life and her beginnings. This chick truly hit rock bottom. As a matter of fact she was already pretty low when the book starts out and it gets worse from there. I hated her mother even more for walking out on her and not fighting for Paige!! There was a lot of drug use, some phyiscal abuse, and sex. Even though the story is dark and dreary there were still some hot sex scenes. Some more awkward than others but still hot as fire!!!

With each book that I read from Lilliana Anderson, I get more and more impressed with her writing skills. They just keep getting better and better! She knows how to pull the readers in and make you fall for characters you didnt think you would like. I would love to find out what happens to Braden and if he has a HEA.

I loved reading Paiges story , after reading the beautiful series and getting to know her now wow!!! To have this hell at such a young age and able to pull herself together. Paiges choices after being thrown out were very typical and naive the path she ends up on very hard to imagine. Living that kind of life not by choice. I'm sure there are those that would say she could have done different but at 15 she was still to young and trusting to realize at the scum thats out there. So far there is nothing Lillian Anderson writes that I'm not in love, with keep up the great work. So glad i found your books on amazon. My kindle has them all.

Whoa! That was intense. I thought I knew what to expect since I'm a huge fan of the series but I was wrong. This author never ceases to shock and amaze me. This is a sad, gritty, raw journey of a girl that is thrust into the worst of possible worlds...over and over again. It was actually painful to read, but so worth it.

I was told this was heavy and as I got into it I never thought it would go so dark. The things Paige did to survive were awful. But what is sad is that her mother was the one that should have had to be punished. When she tries to get help from people she is punished more. It is dark story but it's a must read.
