Hello, and welcome to my Goodreads page! I am touched you have taken the time to visit me.

Here's a bit about me. My hubby and I have been married over a decade now. Our family has grown to include two perfect kids, two dogs who think they are humans and a cat who thinks he’s a dog, haha!

Writing has always been something that called to me, or rather being creative in one form or another.

I am so thankful to everyone (and there are a lot!) who has helped me along this journey. Each and everyone of you mean so much to me and I will never forget your love, support and help!

Hello everyone, this is Ashley Nemer ‘s father writing my first book review. As a matter of fact, “Maverick Touch: The Cat” is the first book I have read cover to cover in 30 years. Ashley first wrote “Blood Purple”, a book about vampires, but I just couldn’t bring myself to read that even though my daughter wrote it. I just have no interest in that topic. So last week while on the beach in Cancun, I read her murder mystery “Maverick Touch”.

I am proud to say, I truly enjoyed it. Parts of it made me laugh, because I saw my daughter's personality in the Nadia character. As I sat in the sun with my Tequila Sunrise (the hotels drink of the day), chapters 1-6 began to set everything up nicely. By the time I finished the seventh chapter, I thought, wow, my daughter has talent. From that point on, all I could think about is how well she developed the story line and how entertained I was throughout the book.

I look forward to more “Maverick” books and encourage Ashley to continue writing mysteries. Rick Castle watch out, Ashley Nemer may have found her niche.

Not a paranormal, not a love story in the true sense of the word, not even a romance really, but a damn good read. An edge of the seat thriller that keeps you turning the page begging for more and an ending that makes you sigh . Great book, my only complaint is that is was too short

you love a good crime mystery then you should definitely check out Maverick Touch: The Cat by Ashley Nemer. I found certain parts of the book could have been an episode of Dexter, which by the way, is my favorite television series. I found myself drawn to the characters. I really enjoyed Nadia's quick wit and daring nature. I love how it starts with something so simple as buying a kitten and turns into such a dangerous adventure for her. If I had anything negative to say it would be simply that the story seemed to move a bit too fast. I like to really get to know the characters and I felt like the book was too short for me to do this. I understand that this is a start to a series, and I intend to keep reading and maybe then I will get to know the characters a little more. I can’t wait to see what mischief Nadia finds in Houston. I give this book 4 out of 5 stars simply because it was too short for the amount of characters that were introduced, but overall it is a fun, enjoyable read.

I was given this book by the author in exchange for a honest review.

Nadia Maverick is a reporter who along with her friend and coworker Gabe seem to find trouble every where they are.

All she wants to do is go to the pet store and get a kitten, what she gets along with her kitten is one hell of a story. The pet store is a cover for a hit man!! While she's investigating the pet store she's almost killed and her camera man is killed and left in her apartment as a warning. When Nadia is taken the question is who has Nadia? Who is going to save her? Will she survive and if she does can she crack the case?

A fast paced mystery with a lot of love of family and friends. I can't wait to read the next book in this great series. The writing flows perfectly and her characters just jump off the page. The story keeps your interest from page one, no need to skip pages here. Thank you Ms Nemer for the chance to read this A+ mystery.

Sigh... Words can not express how much I love this book.

It is not a romance-y murder mystery book, well at least not yet. Nadia is a very believable character that strikes me as a no nonsense Lois Lane but at the same time stands in her own.

Ahhh Mr. A.

If mixing mystery, adventure and romance is your “cup of tea” read you will add Maverick Touch: the Cat to your list. Ashley Nemer has crafted a fun read, a story with a strong protagonist surrounded by her army of supporters. It’s a story that shows the value of the backing of family, friends and colleagues. That is especially important for Nadia who has a knack, it seems, for finding her way into the middle of an adventure when she only sets out to buy a kitten. She finds soon enough she will need her support network to ward off some nasty characters. Maverick Touch is a story that could quickly succumb to clichés, but Nemer manages to keep the story on an even keel. Not usually given to reading the genre, I’m glad I did.

If ever a "heroine" should be killed on the first page, Maverick is the one. She needlessly endangers her family, friends, co-workers endlessly for a news story? omg, kill her again. So many storylines disconnected or just plain stupid.

I’m not sure where to even begin, so I’ll start with some positives about the author. I met her at a convention and she was very friendly. She helped lead a panel discussing the publishing and writing world. She impressed me enough to talk to her at her booth. During that small chat, maybe no more than five minutes, I ended up buying a few books from her.

When you look up the information she shared about publishing and writing, you’ll find she knows what she’s talking about. In fact, I’d listen to her talk at a panel again, anytime.

This book though…

The plot doesn’t seem to begin until the midway point and by then as a reader you may find yourself bored. Passive voice dominates the series and the author focuses way too much on the mundane. For instance, a whole chapter dedicated to Nadia shopping with her nephews to buy supplies/groceries left me thinking her beta readers mislead her.

None of that helped speed the plot along or even mattered.

The justification of Nadia’s behavior seemed also ridiculous, but it became more absurd as random facts were revealed about her brother and sister. I started laughing, because again, they didn’t do anything to help with the plot.

Oh…and the big mysterious Mr. A…everyone’s reactions to him seemed ridiculous. You want to talk to him Nadia…sure let’s not try to have an intervention, cause girlfriend, you have issues.

Paperback note – The shift between Nadia and Mr. A’s point of view at times was sudden. The asterisks or paragraph breaks weren’t included. I know I have an early paperback edition, so that may not be an issue for newer editions or the kindle version.

The highlights. The dialogue shined, as long as it wasn’t making excuses for Nadia’s behavior. My favorite characters happened to be the secondary characters as they were allowed to develop naturally. Nadia’s best friend, her brother, and parents all seemed to have great moments showing who they were. In fact, I think the brother probably would have a great novel’s worth of story to tell. (The sister and nephews seemed to be more of a crutch for Nadia, to show who she was. I didn’t care too much for them.)

I still have a few more books of hers to read, but I’m not too excited as the weird relationship between Mr. A and Nadia kept me scratching my head. I am however, looking forward to seeing her growth as a writer.

I'm not sure how or when I acquired this novella on my tbr shelves and was especially intrigued to discover the paperback is autographed by the author.

It is the opening story of a 4-book series. The best part of the opening story is Nadia Maverick going to the local pet store, Paws Pals, to purchase a kitten with her nephews, Leon and Daman, and their shared conversation selecting a name. It's during the shopping excursion that Nadia's reporter instincts kick into overdrive as she witnesses some behavior that appears more sinister than normal between a pet store employee and another person in a back office of the store.

I was immediately disappointed reading the "Dedication" that kindly gives recognition to her
"entire group of Beta readers for always being there to give me honest feedback and ensuring my work is of the best quality"
but has missing text within the complete sentence. Throughout the book there are multiple grammar errors and continued examples of missing text within sentences that are the opposite of best quality.

Moving on to Chapter One, 2nd paragraph, as Nadia is waking up the reader is told
"Her daily paper would be loaded (to her Kindle) and ready for her to read over coffee."
However, when she goes down to the kitchen she pulls out a Dr. Pepper from the refrigerator. In Chapter Four, Nadia has hot chocolate from Starbucks courtesy of a coworker/partner Gabe. But as Gabe has shared an office with Nadia for 5 years I think he'd be more inclined to buy her coffee from Starbucks especially when he wanted to savor her reaction to his latest research for a story. In Chapter 15, Nadia finally has a cup of coffee as in the 21 chapters of the book she is otherwise drinking wine.

It's a quick read with a few of the murder scenes equivalent to episodes of Criminal Minds or Dexter including a kidnapping with the individual held in a cage and even after being rescued an attraction to someone that has installed hidden cameras in her apartment. Marketing is targeted to Young Adult and up but it is not a novella series I can recommend.

This is my second time reading this book. I am fortunate that I read so many books, I can go back and read them over without remembering most of the story. I upgraded this from a 4* to a 5*.

There is a lot of action in this book. Nadia is a reporter who has a knack for finding stories that get her in trouble. When she decides that she would like a cat, she goes to the pet store. While there, something seems off about the clerk who helped her. Her radar is tweaked and she and her bestie Gabe, start looking into the shop and find that the clerk has been in trouble with the law.

A totally unexpected story with only the tiniest hint of romance. With a decent editor it would have made five stars. A few odd sentences and tenses were a little jarring. Great story.

From simply buying a pet and seeing something suspicious going on in the pet store to a murder and finding love.

Nadia, a newspaper reporter, got herself into some deep trouble this time. She always did like mischief, and she definitely got herself into more than mischief this time. Her co-worker was murdered on one of their investigations, and a man who calls himself Mr. A has drawn Nadia into an online chat room. A chat room that ultimately leads to trouble, a rescue, and a new friend.

MAVERICK TOUCH: THE CAT is a cozy mystery with wonderful characters that you will become attached to. The closeness of Nadia's family was a very touching addition to this murder mystery.

All the techie content was refreshing too. I have never read a book by by Ms. Nemer, but most likely will read her other books.

MAVERICK TOUCH: THE CAT has an easy style, an interesting plot, and above all terrific characters that are quite authentic and ones you would want to know or have for your own family.

If you need a break from a regular, gory mystery, but a mystery that will keep you interested, you won’t want to miss this book. There definitely is some suspense, though, for those who MUST have some action. The ending pages became quite tense.

MAVERICK TOUCH: THE CAT was a quick, fun, sweet read....I actually needed tissues a few times. 4/5

This book was given to me free of charge and without compensation by the author in return for an honest review.

Sorry I can't give it more than three stars. A bit simplistic and glossing over important events. I will read another book by Ashley as I might not be into her style of writing yet.
