De las mejores peleas que ha tenido Ippo, nunca espere que durará tanto pero es un claro reflejo de esta rivalidad/compenetración que tiene con Sendo, realmente espero que pueden volver a chocar puños en un futuro.

Holy schmoly this was a banger. Even the usual training camp arc felt a little different, with neither boxer committing to a new stratagem or technique. Lallapallooza is about two guys that have the deepest respect for one another as competitors, wagering themselves on who is the better man, fighting for the championship belt only in image. Heat. 🔥

Sendou only gets more likable. He’s given a good origin story and his mentality as a fighter is explored nicely. Everything is secondary to him except for pride and his own self-assessment of strength. He’s also got just enough of that loose-cannon, slightly unhinged personality that I’m a sucker for.

Their bout is 10/10, and it’s the focus of the whole arc. There’s no subplots, there’s no Kamogawa boys chasing girls scenes or family drama - it’s about Sendou v Makunouchi.

Training wheels come off for the art. Every page for about 3 full volumes is beautifully orchestrated boxing that creates a high impact feeling. It’s a wonderful balance of fight IQ and just slugging it out. The best part is the internal dialogue and emotional beats. Fear, resiliency, self worth and will-to-power drive this fight to peaks only hit by the preceding Date fight. Both fighters stock rises.

The final product is phenomenal and I cannot wait to see where it goes from here.

Final thought: Morikawa writes darn good characters. As rewarding as it is to see Ippo wear the belt, I still wish for a timeline where he loses so there can be a trilogy fight between the now 1-1 fighters. Alas, I’m sure Sendou will be back.

Really love Hajime no ippo!! Easily my favorite sports manga/anime, it’s a lot more than just the boxing! Great character development and story outside the sports part!😁👌🥊🥊❤️
