Jet has started her new life as a slave in the Royal House of the Nirreth but it is nothing like Jet ever imagined as the 19-year-old skag she was just outside Vancouver. She is babysitting a 9-year-old alien who has a crush on her (which can sometimes be dangerous) and then training for the Rings which is a televised Nirreth obsession where humans navigate perilous courses filled with real and virtual enemies. As the first female human to run in the rings Jet is expected to die or do so badly that she will be kicked out by the judges. Richter (leader of the human rebels) warns that Jet might not make it to the Rings at all - she first has to persuade them that she is docile enough to be trusted. In order to so that she will have to become the pet of one of the Nirreth which involves sharing their bed and being stung by the venom regularly. When Laksri, the leader of the Nirreth rebels and Richter’s military and strategic partner, offers to take that role, Jet’s relationship with the Nirreth becomes more complicated than she could ever have imagined. Can she handle it and can they fool everyone?

This was a great continuation of the story and gave us much more detail about the society in the Green Zone and the kinds of things that Jet had to do in order to fit in with society as well as to protect herself. There were some interesting relationship developments that could have confused Jet a great deal but she seemed to handle it well and be able to see clearly who (or what) was who and how seriously to take everything. I loved the sections where she was high on venom and the effect on both her and Laksri when that was done. The 9-year-old prince was a complete brat and I need to congratulate Jet on not slapping him! Lots of great developments and the Ring was amazing (for both Jet and as a concept). I've started to really like Laksri as a character and think that he is trying really hard to be honourable and treat Jet with respect even though he is obviously very attracted to her. I can't wait to find out what happens next after the bombshell ending to this story. Well written and easy to read and understand.

“The Royals” is the second installment in the “Alien Apocalypse” series by J.C. Andrijeski, a NA dystopian sci-fi/fantasy series set in a futuristic version of Earth at the brink of environmental breakdown and invaded by aliens (Nirreth), who prey on humans, using them for food and different kinds of entertainment, while intended on ‘nirrethforming’ Earth to their lizard-like needs.

Jet Tetsuo, the series protagonist, is a nineteen-year-old female, that got caught by the Nirreth and transported to one of the dreaded 'Green Zones' and forced to train to fight in the Rings (“The Culling”, Book 1). Now Jet lives as a slave in a Nirreth house, dividing her time between training for the Rings and baby-sitting Ogli, a nine-year old Nirreth, that is a hand-full in more than one sense. Then there is also Richter, whom the alien trusts, but who is in fact a member of the human resistance and tries to recruiter Jet to the cause. Richter and the nirreth Laksri have partnered to bring down the royal family, the same royal family Ogli belongs to. As you can see Jet’s life doesn’t get easier. But even if Jet doesn’t trust Richter as far as she could throw him in the Rings, there is wisdom in the old adagio, even if you can’t keep your friends close, at least keep your enemies closer.

“The Royals” is a well-crafted, interesting sequel to “The Culling”. The book is easy-to-read, action-richer, and faster-paced as its predecessor, benefiting from an already introduced world-building. There are some twist and unexpected turns in the very cohesive plot, and some new developments that add to the story-arc ahead. All of them written in Andrijeski’s unparalleled style, a blend of urban fantasy, erotic romance and dystopia that flows seamlessly through the pages.

Training For The Rings & Finding Out About The Royals!👑💥
Is Romance On The Cards For Jet?😍🔥💘👽
(Read using Kindle Unlimited)
The Royals: Alien Apocalypse Part #2

Jet begins her training for the Rings. Richter has her game plan set out regarding how she needs to do in each game, she hopes she can do what's needed!🙏 Prince Ogli gets possessive of her, to protect her, it's agreed that Laksir will pose as her chosen. It will mean she'll have to be stung regularly but she'll need to be for the Rings training anyway!😳

Richter is keeping so much from her, shes working in the dark most of the time, its frustrating.😕 Her friendship with Anase has been severely damaged by his deceptions. She's finding herself more friendly & trusting of Laks as time goes on. A huge upheaval is on the horizon!!💥

I found the underlying storyline really gripping & the potential romance both odd but really intriguing too. The description of Jet's photographic memory & her spacial awareness in the virtual reality of the Rings themed programmes really cool.👍 What I really struggled with, however, was for much of the book Jet is about to start a training session, is mid conversation etc but then for pages & pages she zones out & starts 'thinking' about something else!?😒 It drove me potty & it took me days to push through & finish the book. It's a real shame as the story itself, the characters & world build are fabulous!! On to book #3 because I NEED to know.😍

Ok, quite frankly I’m not a big fan of apocalypse themed stories, but I’ve read and very much enjoyed other books by JC Andrijeski so I figured it was worth trying her new series as it’s on KU so was low risk. I’m really glad I did as this was fantastically addictive wonderful stuff. Now available in a single bookset, The Complete Alien Apocalypse Series (Parts I-IV Plus Bonus Novella), and I’d highly recommend that as, please trust me, you’ll not be able to stop until reaching the end. This crazy mashup “Apocalyptic, Romantic, Science Fiction, Alien Invasion Adventure” somehow works perfectly. I loved the plot line in each darn book, all of which flowed into a great story line filled with a perfectly crafted cast of lead and supporting characters, and all tied up with a bow of superb writing. Really fantastic stuff and I very much highly recommend each book and (for anyone coming to this fir the first time) the boxset.

I received The Royals, book 2 of the Alien Apocalypse (formerly Slave Girl Chronicles), as a free copy from the author/publisher. The gifting of the Alien Apocalypse box set did not determine the review/rating, which reflects my honest opinion.

As with the first novella, I loved the fast pacing and forward plot progression. As I've come to expect from this author, plenty of surprising twists and addition to interesting characters with plenty of hangups. This exciting installment features an action-packed VR sequence where Jet competes in her first Ring challenge--very exciting. Reading straight through to the next book because I have to know what happens next!

Great Story 😃

I almost gave this three stars just cuz I'm pissed, but I realized that this is a good story, there's just too much information being thrown around 🤔. Our heroine is just too much in her head about everything and although you need a good setup for the story there's just too much 🙂. I'm so glad that I took that speed reading course 😄. I do want to know what happens next, but I'm not sure if I want to skim through all the excess info again 😉. Thanks JC, I've read a few of your other stories and enjoyed them, so maybe I'll try this again 🤓.

Fantastic SC!

This is one fantastic series. The Royals follow the first book beautifully. The characters are so real, more than real. Jet is amazing. And the fact that her oldest friend has lied to her makes you look at the relationships with question. I’m loving it. You will too!

This series was obviously an earlier writing effort on the part of the author. I recognize the author's voice in this Sci fi tale and enjoy the story, but see the weaknesses.

THE SLAVE GIRL CHRONICLES: BOOK 2 - THE ROYALS by JC Andrejeski

I received a free eBook copy of "The Royals" in exchange for an honest review.

This is the second book in "The Slave Girl Chronicles" which follows the adventures of a female, human teenager named Jet. Jet had been living in the ruins of what was once Vancouver before she was "culled" or kidnapped in the first book by a fellow human named Richter who then sold her as a slave to the Nirreth royal family.

The Nirreth are an alien race that have taken over Earth.

Most humans (referred to as Skags) try to eke out a meager existence by living underground and scrounging food to survive. The Earth's weather has changed and mold permeates everything. Water is unusable without first being boiled, and even then is only drinkable for a short time.

Jet has been taken from the toxic wasteland she used to live in and now lives as a slave in The Green Zone where there is clean water, plentiful food and even blue skies. These Green Zones have been artificially created for the Nirreth to live in.

Jet discovered at the end of the first book that Richter is actually the leader of The Resistance and that he wants Jet to be his spy. She does not trust him, but she has little choice but to go along with his plans, of which he has told her next to nothing. Richter has partnered with a Nirreth faction led by Laksri who are dissatisfied with the royal family. Laksri has been assigned to watch over Jet as she assimilates to her new role. The royal family trust him and have no idea of his ulterior motives.

Jet's "job" is to watch over Ogli, the nine year old eldest son of the Nirreth royal family. She is a terrific fighter and very skilled with her sword. Richter & Laksri's plan includes Jet fighting in The Rings.

This book focuses on her training for The Rings and ends shortly after her first trial.

We also learn more about Laksri and his origins and history. He becomes a much more central character in book two.

I do not want to give away too much of the plot in this review, so I will try to refrain from "spilling the beans."

Suffice it to say that Jet's life gets much more complicated and even her feelings start to become confused.

There is tension and lots of it. Sexual tension as well as storyline tensions abound and Jet finds herself questioning all she has ever been taught to believe.

The plot moves along very quickly and I was disappointed not to already have Book 3 so that I could keep reading.

The world Jet lives in is described in exquisite detail and comes across to the reader vividly.

This book is an excellent read and proves that Andrejeski is a force to be reckoned with in the fiction world.

I highly recommend this book and give it 5 out of 5 stars.

This was an improvement. Well, it was a slight improvement in the copy editing and the plot holes weren't exactly big enough to drive a truck through. There are still a lot of things in this series that stretch my suspension of disbelief, though.

It's interesting to me that the author eroticizes the sting but writes the sex in fade to black. The sting is essentially intercourse alien style so why not write the intercourse like intercourse, too?

Whatever. As I write this Goodreads has only three in this series listed but there are five, of which I am currently in possession of four. I'm not sure how I'm going to mark them as read with them not even existing in the Goodreads database.

Must know ending!

Thank goodness the series is complete as the story line has captured me. I still had moments when I thought that Jet was TSTL, but I am caught in wanting to know how it ends.
